Summer. That’s the best description of the end of the work week and coming weekend as we get a bit of a break from the various rounds of rain that have been occurring across the Plains States recently. However, with that break from the rain will come some hot and humid conditions, with our first multi-day run of temperatures at, or above, 90 degrees thus far this year. The Summer heat and humidity will make a return to the region today, but that will bring a good chance for severe thunderstorms storms across parts of the region later this afternoon and evening. Expect storms to get going near the Nebraska-Kansas-Iowa-Missouri border region around to after 4 p.m. this afternoon. Storms may be particularly dangerous as they initiate, with all forms of severe weather possible; from large hail, and damaging winds; to isolated tornadoes, and flash flooding. As storms progress in the evening, they will likely congeal into a large complex of storms that will sweep southeast, with the severe threats likely transitioning to large hail and damaging wind. Strong to Severe storms are possible this afternoon after 5 p.m. over NW Missouri with all severe hazards possible to include large hail, damaging winds, flash flooding, and tornadoes (although the tornado threat is low). These storms are likely to stay north of HWY 36, but may progress into the KC metro and North central Missouri after sunset. Another round of storms is possible during rush hour Friday morning as storms move into the area from Kansas.
