Chance of rain and storms throughout the week

Rain and storm chances will increase this week as a wet pattern develops over the central U.S. Some storms may be severe Tuesday afternoon and evening across northern Missouri and northeast Kansas. Unfortunately, rain chances will only increase as we head into the latter half of the work week as a slow moving storm system moves over the area. Here’s the 7-day forecast from the National Weather Service:

It’s going to be another nice day out there as we bring the work week to a close, but there are some more storms in our forecast for the weekend that you should plan for. Expect temperatures to warm a bit today and Saturday ahead of a cold front that will sweep across the region Saturday afternoon and evening. And, as the cold front sweeps through Saturday, this will bring a threat of showers and thunderstorms with it. Otherwise, expect a pleasant end to the weekend as cooler drier air filters in across the region behind Saturday’s front. Here’s the 7-day forecast from the National Weather Service:

Temps near 74 with chance of rain and storms this afternoon

Major to record river flooding is occurring along the Missouri, Grand, Chariton, 102, and Platte Rivers with moderate flooding occurring on many other rivers. Several roadways along these rivers and from previous heavy rains are impassable. Use caution when driving and do not drive pass barricades. Severe weather returns, bringing high winds, hail, tornado watches

Severe weather has returned to the area with thunderstorms spreading across northeast Kansas, northwest Missouri into parts of Nebraska and Iowa.

High winds could produce tornadoes with the National Weather Service issuing a tornado watch throughout the four-state region.

Shortly after four o’clock, a severe thunderstorm hovered over Albany, moving northeast at 60 mph, according to NWS. Radar indicated ping pong ball size hail.

A tornado watch issued by the National Weather Service will run until 10 o’clock tonight for seven counties in northeast Kansas, including Brown, Doniphan and Leavenworth and 22 counties in northwest to north-central Missouri, including Buchanan, Caldwell, Carroll, Clinton, Daviees, DeKalb, Grundy, and Livingston.

Active weather continues today with the potential for severe weather and flash flooding. The strongest storms are expected during the daylight hours, especially along a line of storms. Large hail to quarter-size, damaging wind gusts, and isolated tornadoes are possible.
