Burn ban continues for Doniphan County

Burn BanDoniphan County has extended its burn ban as dry and windy conditions continue Monday afternoon.

Doniphan County’s Emergency Mangement Dir, Julie Meng said a burn ban has been extended until further notice.  The county first issued a ban Saturday at 7 a.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning due to critical fire weather conditions for parts of the region from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday for low relative humidities and windy conditions. Winds are anticipated to be sustained at 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph with the stronger winds across extreme northeast Kansas into far northwest Missouri.

FileL (18)Another mild weekend much like last weekend is on the way! Temperatures today will begin to rebound and move slightly above normal with highs in the mid 40s to lower 50s. Saturday temperatures will move 15 to 20 degrees above normal with highs in the 60s. However, with those warm temperatures will come breezy conditions which will cause an increased fire danger across the area. Do not throw cigarettes out the window and any outdoor burning is not recommended. Conditions will remain mild on Sunday with highs in the upper 50s to upper 60s.

Cold today but warming into the weekend

FileL (17)It will be another cool and breezy day today with a few flurries flying around. This weekend looks spectacular for late February with highs in the mid to upper 60s. But this time of year, pleasant warmth tends to be balanced out at some point by a return to cold. And that may be the case Tuesday night into Wednesday. We’re watching for the potential for snow in the early to middle part of next week. It’s too early to be more specific and the forecast will likely change.

Temperatures will be closer to normal this week with most of the area remaining dry. But a storm system well south of Kansas City may spread light rain to area south of I-70 Tuesday. Tuesday night, this may become a rain/snow mix. No accumulating snow is expected for the western portions of the Show-me State or for eastern Kansas. Although if traveling to St. Louis, and points east, there may be several inches of snow.
