Chance of light rain throughout the day

Cloudy skies with occasional light rain or drizzle will prevail most of the day. Light winds this morning will pick up out of the north this afternoon and become breezy with gusts 20 to 30 mph. Light rain/drizzle will come to an end tonight. Beyond today the next week looks dry with above normal temperatures! Here’s the 7-day forecast from the National Weather Service:

Allied Arts Council donating reward money for information on stolen statue

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Allied Arts Council plans to donate $500 to the Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline in hopes of obtaining information leading to the prosecution of the individual(s) for the theft of one of the “Catch Me if You Can” skater statues.

According to a press release, if there are no leads resulting in an arrest, the Allied Arts Council will donate $1,000 for the repair or replacement of the statue.

One of three skater statues located on the Parkway north of Corby Pond was broken off at the base and stolen last week. The Council hopes the donation will lead to the recovery of one of the iconic and beloved public art pieces donated by the Bradley family.

Maryville mom requests Christmas cards for children who lost their dad

A Maryville mother is asking for help in bringing Christmas cheer to her kids this holiday season.

Miranda Browning was the wife of 35-year-old Ryen Browning who was struck and killed by lightning in August while fishing.

Miranda said Ryen leaves behind four children: 11-year-old Lindsey, 9-year-old Issac, 4-year-old Maverick and 3-year-old Atreyue.

“(They’re) going through the first Christmas without dad, so my idea was to just have people in the community, throughout anywhere that we could reach, via Facebook, radio, any of that, to send the kiddos Christmas cards just to maybe brighten up their holiday just a little bit more,” Miranda said.

Another mild day is expected today with highs in the mid 40s to the north to mid 50s to the south. However, tonight drizzle or light rain will overspread the region from south to north. Areas across northern Missouri may drop below freezing as this moisture moves in making freezing drizzle or light freezing rain possible. Missouri teen hospitalized after vehicle travels through fence, overturns

LIVINGSTON COUNTY — One person was injured in an accident just after 10:30p.m. Tuesday in Livingston County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by Jada S. Bennett, 16, Chillicothe, was eastbound on Livingston 520 ten miles west of Chillicothe. The vehicle began to skid and the driver overcorrected. The vehicle traveled off the south side of the road through a barbed wire fence and overturned.

Chillicothe EMS transported Bennett to Hedrick Medical Center. She was properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the MSHP.

Three charged in relation to bridge fire near Chillicothe

The Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office announced three suspects were arrested and charged in relation to the Canadian Pacific Railway bridge fire in October.

According to a press release from Missouri State Fire Marshal Investigator, last week, 23-year-old Destanie D. Batson, 19-year-old Kyle J. Mace and 18-year-old James P. Eugene Haight, all of Chillicothe, were charged with two felony counts each of knowingly burning and property damage in the first degree.

As previously reported, the Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the fire that occurred on October 29th, just south of Chillicothe at the railroad bridge that crosses the Grand River.  

All suspects are currently being held at the Daviess/DeKalb Regional Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.

The Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office worked with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, Canadian Pacific Railway Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigations, Chillicothe Police Department and the St. Joseph Police Department’s Forensics Division.

The press release also mentioned that numerous tips were received and processed, several of which were valuable.

This investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact either the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Arson Hotline 1-800-39 ARSON or the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office at (660) 646-0515.

Temperatures on Wednesday will be a little cooler but still above normal with highs in the 40s to near 50. Man sentenced to life for drive-by shooting in St. Joseph

A 20-year-old St. Joseph man was sentenced to life in prison without parole for a fatal drive-by shooting last year.

Khaury D. El-Amin was sentenced Monday in the October 2017 shooting death of 26-year-old Donovan L. Smith.

As previously reported, in the area of 724 North 23rd Street, El-Amin was a passenger in a vehicle and he was seen firing a handgun at Smith, hitting the victim at least once. El-Amin fled the scene and Smith later died as a result of the gunshot wound.

According to online court documents, Circuit Judge Patrick Robb sentenced El-Amin to life without parole for murder and 25 years for armed criminal action.

Warmer temps in the 30s and 40s this week

Temperatures will start out chilly this morning with readings in the teens and lower 20s and wind chill values in the mid single digits to mid teens. By afternoon, temperatures will have warmed into the 30s with temperatures climbing into the 40s and 50s by Tuesday. Two systems later in the week will bring chances for rain and snow generally south of Interstate 70 and east of Interstate 35. Here’s the 7-day forecast from the National Weather Service:
