Gary W. Reed

 

Gary Reed, 76, of Bolckow, MO, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2019 at his residence. 

Gary was born on June 18, 1942 in Skidmore, MO, to the late Ernie and Mary (Wellington) Reed . He married Emelie Lorenz on July 9, 1976 in Maitland, MO.

She survives him of the home.

He spent his career with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) and later doing maintenance for the Andrew County Courthouse.

He loved farming and his animals and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Reed was preceded in death by a sister; Donna Davis, brothers; Elbert and Ernest Reed, step-son; Jerry Lee Burris, Jr. two great nieces; Renee Beers and Margaret Blessington.

Gary is survived by his daughters; Julie (Deryn) Buntrock of Colorado and Robyn Reed of Branson, MO, step-daughter in-law; Karen Burris, sister; Darlene (Fred) Burgess, grandchildren; Matthew (Brittany) Carpenter and Cameron Carpenter, step-grandchildren; Corbin (Christian) Burris and Kaylee (David) Freeman, great-grandson; Wyatt Carpenter, step-great-grandson; Sawyer Burris, sisters-in-law; Jeanie Reed, Peggy Reed, Carol Dorzweiler and Regina Lorenz as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith Savannah Chapel. Interment Bennett Lane Cemetery, Savannah, Mo.

The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at our chapel.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Maryville Animal Shelter or to a charity of the donor’s choice in Gary’s memory.

Cynthia Louise Pribil 61, Saint Joseph, Missouri died Wednesday May 29, 2019 in Saint Joseph.

Born October 15, 1957, St. Joseph, Preceded in death by sister, Misty Lea Cline.

Survivors include husband, David B. Pribil, parents, Chuck & Linda Ellis all of Saint Joseph, MO, daughter, Samantha (Joe) Brenner, Mound City, MO, grandchildren, Brooklin & River, brother, Chuck Ellis III, sister, Melissa Ellis. Cremation under the direction of the Rupp Funeral Home.

Tina Louise McClure


Tina Louise (Bennett) McClure 58, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2019 at her home.

She was born January 5, 1961 in St. Joseph, MO, She married Herb McClure on November 3, 1981 and they shared 39 years together. She was a Homemaker, who enjoyed playing games on the computer, listening to Gospel music, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She was baptized in the Community of Christ Church and was a member of the Fellowship Mission for Jesus Church.

Tina was preceded in death by father, Ronald D. Bennett, mother, Sandra K Smith, and a brother, Ronald D Bennett Jr..

Survivors include, husband, Herb McClure of the home, daughter, Jennifer (Jerry) Proffit, Saint Joseph, MO, step daughter, Meme (David) Walker, Skidmore, MO, sisters: Sharon (Mack) Haynes, St. Joseph, MO, sister, Rhonda (Jesse) Stark, 17 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services: 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Rupp Funeral Home, Rev. Larry Gray officiating, The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Patricia L. Scherer

Patricia L. Scherer, 67, of Hiawatha, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha.

She was born August 11, 1951 in St. Joseph, MO to Clarence “Bud” and Patricia Cavanaugh Boos. She grew up in the Denton and Severance area graduating with the Midway High School class of 1969. She continued her education at Benedictine College graduating with a BA in Sociology.

Pat married James T. Scherer May 26, 1973 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Bendena, KS. They lived in St. Louis for 18 months before moving to Denton. They made Hiawatha their home from 1985 till the present. He survives of the home. They were blessed with two children, Jimmy and Katie.

Pat and Jim raised their children in Hiawatha. She was very proud of their kids and was a wonderful mother and wife. Pat was especially proud of her one and only “favorite” namesake grandson, Dax Patrick Overstreet.

She worked alongside Jim and managed their CPA business for 25 years, served as treasurer on the Hiawatha Community Hospital Auxiliary Board, and she taught CCD at St. Ann Catholic Church where she transferred her membership to in 1986. Pat was one of the four founding members of the Rho Iota Sorority. She loved her family and friends and any time you saw Pat, you also saw her contagious smile and her love for life.

Carilyn Kay Blasi (Lauffer)

Carilyn Kay Blasi, 80, Atchison, KS, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Mosiac Life Care Hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, June 3, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Ziegler, officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Atchison. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Sunday, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Carilyn Kay Lauffer was born on July 26, 1938 in Atchison, the daughter of Roy William and Marie Johanna (Rathert) Lauffer. Carilyn was a 1956 graduate from Atchison High School and had worked for the Atchison telephone office prior to working for 29 years as a machine operator for Saunders Manufacturing / Golden Star of Atchison, retiring in 2001. Carilyn was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Altar Guild, Pastor Ziegler’s Bible Class, Morning Break Bible Study, she was a Kennedy Caller, visited people in the nursing home and was a member of the Beta Sigma Sorority. Carilyn enjoyed scrapbooking and social networking on Facebook.

Carilyn and Kenneth Blasi were married on March 3, 1962 at Sacred Heart Church, Atchison.

Survivors include Carilyn’s husband of 57 years, Ken, of the family home; one son, David (Kim) Blasi, Atchison; two daughters, Denise (Mike) Becerra, St. Joseph, MO, and Dana (Paul) Weaver, Leavenworth, KS; son-in- law, David Paul, Atchison; sister, Marilyn Wohlgemuth, Topeka, KS; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Carilyn was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Deborah Paul and an infant daughter, Dawn Elizabeth Blasi; granddaughter, Dawn Elizabeth Blasi; brother, Ralph Charles Lauffer; sister, Bette Hawkins.

Connar Michael McLeod

Connar Michael McLeod, St. Joseph, Missouri, was born and passed away Monday, May 27, 2019.

He was preceded in death by his great grandmother; Rose Mary Wood, great great-grandparents; Shirley and Harold Morris, Donald Sigrist, Paul Sigrist.

William “Bill” M. Helm

William “Bill” M. Helm, 57, St. Joseph, MO; passed away Monday, May 27, 2019 at Mosaic Life Care.

Bill was born on February 22, 1962 in Pocatello, Idaho to Marshall and Ethel (Nelson) Helm. He was a graduate of Highland High School and received his B.S.in Business Science.

Bill was a Circulation Systems Manager for the St. Joseph News-Press for over six years. Prior to that he worked at Sac-N-Save for five years and oversaw the opening of the local Michael’s store. Before moving to the area, he worked throughout the country for Michael’s and K-Mart stores.

Bill was a member The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He received his Eagle Scout and volunteered in Cub Scouts most of his adult life, serving as a Cub Master in 5 states. He was a member of the Kansas City Slammers, Midwest Modelers Club and was a member of the Board of Trustees on the Greater Salt Lake Model Car Consortium.

Bill lived his life being honorable in all things that he did. He gathered those that are children of his heart along his journey. He taught his children the importance of dependability and the value of hard work.

William married Cheryl Larsen on November 11, 1983, a lifelong friend.

Bill is survived by his wife, Cheryl, his children, Rachel Lee (Marcus), Amanda “Mandy” Jones (Adam), Matthew Helm (Celina) and their daughter, Thea; Jessica, Joshua and Daniel Helm; a brother, John Helm and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins.

Services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Private Family Interment Packard Cemetery, Cameron, Missouri. The Family to Receive Friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.

Darlene Simpson

WATHENA, KANSAS Darlene (Moss) Simpson, 86, of Wathena, Kansas died Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at her home. Darlene was born on July 16, 1932 in Wathena, Kansas to Harold and Una LaDean (Harmon) Moss. She was a lifelong resident of Wathena.

Darlene was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wathena. She was active for many years with the American Baptist Women (ABW) and in her younger days she sang in the choir. She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, Wathena Chapter #413. Throughout the years she held several offices including District Aide and Worthy Matron. The most recent office held was Electa. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxillary #161, and the V.F.W Auxillary #5531 of Wathena. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines of St. Joseph, Missouri and sang bass in a quartet. One of her favorite memories was going to the International Sweet Adelines Competition in Seattle, Washington. She spent her life caring for her husband and children, and doting on her grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling with her family whenever she had the opportunity.

She married Don Simpson on June 30, 1950 in Wathena. They had three children, Donna, Deidre, and Darla. Don preceded her in death on February 20, 1992. Darlene was also preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Kathleen Simpson, her parents, Harold & UnaDean Moss, and her sister, Betty Darling.

She is survived by her two daughters, sons-in-law, and granddaughters: Deidre Simpson Speck (Brad) of Olathe, Kansas, their children Breanna Speck, Michaela Speck, and Darla Simpson Behrens (Doug) of Wathena, Kansas, their daughter Klaranda Behrens. She is also survived by a sister, Ellen Ewers (Jim), Mt. Gilead, Ohio and a brother Harold Ray Moss (Judy), St. Joseph, Missouri, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

John Francis Hood

John F. Hood, 59, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, May 27, 2019 at Mosaic Life Care.

John was born November 7, 1959 to Charles Gary and Mary Alice (Kinder) Hood.  John graduated from Bishop LeBlond High School.  On November 14, 2014, John married Marilyn Young in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives him of the home.

He worked as a General Manager for Peterbilt of St. Joseph.

John was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, The Hog Motorcycle Club and Northwest Street Rodders.  He looked forward to the Annual Brown Bear Fishing Trip.

Survivors include mother; Mary (Larry) Smithers, sons:  Rodney (Dana) Hood, Travis Hood and Brandon (Kristen) Rodriguez, daughters; Trisha Rodriguez and Brittany Rodriguez, sisters; Pam (Ron) Greiner, Laurie (Cort) Huffman, Brenda Calvert and brother;  Jeff (Paula) Carrel, four grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and his faithful dog Kendall.

John was preceded in death by his father, sister Mary Lynn Hood, grandparents;  John (Hazel) Hood and Caddo (Grace) Kinder, and his loyal companion Jesse.

Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM, Friday, May 31, 2019 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 30, 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel in St. Joseph.  Interment Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Sherrie Lynn Benshoof

Sherrie Benshoof, 53, St. Joseph, Missouri, formerly Des Moines, Iowa passed away Sunday, May 26, 2019.

She was born on December 15, 1965 to Gerald and Shirley Bryant.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include sons; Sheldon Siefken, Joshua Bryant, daughter; Porscha Bryant, grandchildren; Kylee, Malachi, Quinn, Liam, siblings; Jerry and Robyn.
