Owens, Russell webRussell Wayne Owens, 68, of Graham MO. passed away Saturday, January 26 at his home with his family at his side.

Russell was born April 5, 1944 to the late Everett V. Owens and Helen Geraldine Rowlett.

Russell graduated from Graham High School and served in the US Air Force. Russell spent his working career as a mechanic. He married Linda Hoague on February 5, 1979 in Oregon , MO.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister Paula Wilcoxson, an infant brother LaVerne Owens and a step-daughter Debbie Turner.

Russell is survived by his wife Linda of the home, 8 children, Joel (Vonda) Fredette, Virginia, Tina Fredette, Champlain, NY., Christopher Owens, Mound City, MO., Donald (Mary) Bohannon, Alburg, VT., Sharri (Bret) Wallace, Maryville, MO., Ray (Tobie) Bohannon, Barnard, MO., and Nathan Owens, Graham MO. Two brothers, Curtis Owens, Lake St. Louis, MO., Steven (Connie) Owens, Alba TX., and a sister Sherri (Lester) Barrett, Graham MO. Russell had 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Russell will be cremated. The family is hosting a memorial service at the New Community Building in Graham on Thursday January 31 at 11 am to celebrate and honor Russell’s life. There will be a luncheon after the service. The family has requested memorials to the American Cancer Society or SSM Hospice of St. Francis in lieu of flowers.

Mary Lucille (Davisson) Leininger, St. Joseph, Missouri died Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Living Community in St. Joseph. Mary was born on December 14, 1914, in the rural home of her parents Joseph Nathaniel and Nora (Fisher) Davisson, just south of Falls City, Richardson County, Nebraska. Joseph owned and operated his family farm, and Nora’s father (George W. Fisher) owned a nearby farm. Mary graduated from Falls City High School in 1933 and subsequently graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, in 1935 (then a two-year women’s college), and from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) in 1937 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. After teaching public school music in Hemingford and Unadilla, Nebraska, she married Vance Leininger of Fullerton, Nebraska on December 25, 1938, with whom she had shared music classes at UNL. The couple made their first homes in Stanton and Shenandoah, Iowa, and they moved to Washington, DC in 1942 when Vance joined the US Navy. After he earned his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1948, the young family settled in Columbus, Nebraska where they raised their three sons. They moved to St. Joseph, Missouri in 1988 when Vance retired. They belonged to the Federated Church in Columbus, the First Presbyterian Church in St. Joseph, the Benton Club, and St. Joseph Country Club. Mary was a 50-plus year member of PEO Sisterhood – Chapter CH in Columbus and Chapter BP in St. Joseph – and she was a member of the Runcie Club in St. Joseph. She often hosted PEO meetings and enjoyed playing piano, and also enjoyed playing bridge. In Columbus during the 1970s, Mary became very interested and proficient in yoga. Friends who visited her in recent years had the pleasure of seeing her yoga photograph album, of which she was proud. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two older sisters, Esther Richardson, Falls City, Nebraska and Ruth Dunn, Lanham, Maryland. She is survived by three sons; Kurt, Malvern, Pennsylvania, Joel, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Ralph, Dayton, Ohio; four grandsons, Andrew, Peter, Jeffrey, and Benjamin; and one niece, Merrijeanne (Dunn) Mitchell, Lanham, Maryland. Francis Jean Paden, 87, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Veteran’s Home in Cameron, Missouri. Jean was born September 25, 1925 to Frank and Eva Paden in St. Joseph, Missouri. He graduated from Benton High School in 1943. Jean was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army in the Phillipines, Japan and New Guniea from 1943-1946 with a Honorable Discharge. He worked at Quaker Oats for 41 ½ years, retiring in 1988 as a Machine Operator and in later years as a Mason. Jean was a member of Wyatt Park Baptist Church since he was twelve years old. He served as a Deacon and a Sunday School teacher. He belonged to Charity Zeredatha Lodge #189, Pony Express American Legion #359, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and Quaker Oats Quarter Century Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Dean; sister, Charlotte and husband Clinton Pons of Florida. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elda; sons, Mike Paden (Carrie) of Columbia, Missouri, Doug Paden, St. Joseph, Missouri; daughter, Kathy McPheeters (Galen), Agency, Missouri; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Harold “Hawk” Stephen Schultz, 86, St. Joseph, Missouri died Friday, January 25, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. He was born November 26, 1926 to Glenn and Lucille Schultz in Corning, Missouri. Hawk was a member of the American Legion Post 11 of St. Joseph, Missouri, served in the Pacific during World War II with the United States Army, and liked listening to the St. Louis Cardinals games. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Schultz; and son-in-law, Jim Allaman. Jerome Michael  “Jerry” Tobin, 72, Maryville, Missouri, died Friday, January 25, 2013,  at St Francis Hospital,  Maryville, Missouri.  Jerome  was born Friday, January 03, 1941, in Maryville, Missouri to Thomas James and Edna Mae (O’Day) Tobin who preceded him in death.  A graduate of  Horace Mann High School and a Veteran serving in the US Air Force, he was a truck driver.  Jerry  was a member of the St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Maryville.

Preceding him in  death were his parents, an infant daughter Andrea Tobin, brothers Phil and Kenny, and sisters Marcella Wiles and Thelma Moyer.

Survivors include include brother Larry and wife Alicia Tobin, Maryville and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Tuesday, January 29, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church with a visitation commencing at 9:30 AM prior to the mass.

JoAnn Hutchings Pickerel, 80, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 after a long, courageous battle. She was born November 24, 1932. Her parents were Chester and Gladys (Wright) Hutchings.
JoAnn was married to Jerome A. Pickerel (deceased) and together they raised three daughters.
She attended Hosea Elementary, Benton High School, and St. Luke’s Nursing School. JoAnn had a long and successful career as a nurse serving at different times at Methodist Hospital, State Hospital, Sister’s Hospital and as the Director of Nursing, she was instrumental in the design of Heartland East. In addition JoAnn proudly served as the President of the Missouri Nurses Association.
Friendships were essential to JoAnn including her sisters-in-law, her nearly lifelong participation in CAJ, her numerous close classmates from St. Luke’s and colleagues throughout her nursing career. Upon retirement JoAnn and Jerry moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas where they established new friends and graciously welcomed the visits of family and others.
In addition to her passion for nursing, JoAnn enjoyed sewing, cooking, traveling and shopping.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, William “Bill” Hutchings.

Diggs, LouJessie Lou Diggs, 89, Skidmore, Missouri died Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Golden Living Care, Maryville, Missouri.

Lou was born, August 10, 1923 in Skidmore, Missouri and was the daughter of Myron and Jessie Mildred Dawson Newton.

She attended Skidmore High School , was a cook at Nodaway Holt Schools for 20 years, owned and operated Lou’s Diner for 21 years in Skidmore, and was a member of the Skidmore Christian Church.

On August 19, 1939, Lou married Fred Lester Diggs, in Wathena, Kansas who preceded her in death April 22, 1977.

Mrs. Diggs was preceded in death by daughter Anita Brown, sisters Judy Flynn, Leona Newton, Beth Bonner and Dixie Lea Collin, and brothers Homer, Fred, Zeke, Jerry, Myron, George, and Hooker Newton.

She is survived by a special son-in-law Don Brown, sons Gary Diggs, Walker, Missouri,Terry Diggs, Skidmore, Bradley Diggs, Chillicothe, MO, daughter Linda Fairchild, Chillicothe, sisters Mary Alice Johnson, Skidmore, Inez Boyer, St. Joseph, and 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.

A graveside service and burial will be held 11 AM, Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Skidmore.

Scott Alan Henderson “Scott E. Dawg”, 53, St. Joseph, Missouri died unexpectedly Monday, January 21, 2013 with his loving family at his side.
Scott was born July 31, 1959 to Anna and Leon Henderson in St. Joseph, Missouri.
A graduate of Benton High School, Scott spent the next 13 years in the U.S. Navy. His service took him all over the world with duty stations all the way from the Indian Ocean to Italy. He loved regaling us with stories about his Navy days. After returning home, Scott worked in the healthcare system, mostly caring for the elderly; he enjoyed them so much he often referred to them as his “kids”. He was described by his beloved nephews as “Uncle Scott is the best babysitter ever”, cake for breakfast might have had an influence. It had also been said that Scott “Never met a stranger”.
Scott was preceded in death by his father, Leon S. Henderson; and grandparents, Leon “Rusty” and Deva Henderson and Sam and Dorothy Wolfe.
Survivors: his mother, Anna Henderson; sisters, Ogretta (Charles) Miller, Springhill, Florida and Kim (Kip) Hornsby, St. Joseph; one daughter, Bobbie Jene Henderson, California; beloved nephews, Alex and Andrew Miller, and Zach and Nick Taul; aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Services: The family will be hosting a celebration of Scott’s life on Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at First Lutheran Church. Marion L. Buczek, 94, St. Joseph, Missouri died Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
She was born October 18, 1918 to James and Ruth Smith in Brookfield, Missouri.
Marion married John S. Buczek on September 12, 1946. He preceded her in death on March 13, 2005.
She graduated from St. Joseph Junior College and earned a BA in Psychology from Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison, Kansas. She earned a MA in Clinical Psychology from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas, and did postgraduate with St. Mary’s University, Leavenworth, Kansas, and Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville, Missouri.
Mrs. Buczek was a licensed Clinical Psychologist. She retired in 1984 as Director of the Psychology Department at Woodson Children’s Psychiatric Hospital where the Marion Buczek Conference Room was named in recognition of her outstanding service. She was a member of the Missouri Psychological Association and American Psychological Association.
She previously was a Psychology Instructor at the former St. Joseph Junior College and prior to that had acted as School Psychologist in the St. Joseph Public School System. In earlier years, she was with the Missouri State Social Security and American Electric Company, St. Joseph, Missouri.
Mrs. Buczek was a member of the St. Joseph’s Cathedral, St. Ann’s Altar Society, Ladies of Charity and Knights of Columbus Council 571 Ladies Auxillary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother-in-law, Charles Sinclair; and nephew, John Sinclair.

She began her career as a nurse and later moved into Medical Research for various Pharmaceutical companies. Ms. Mingori was a member of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral Church in Kansas City, Missouri. She had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed traveling with her friends. She loved spending time with her family. Trisha faced her share of adversity in life, but always met it courageously. She was preceded in death by her parents. Janie married Lawrence L. Lake, Sr. on March 23, 1967. He survives of the home.
She was a great wife and mother who fought a long battle with cancer.
Janie went to be with her son, Ryan Lake, and her parents, who preceded her in death.

Burris, Helen webHelen Lee Hodgin Burris, age 88, passed away peacefully at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center on Saturday, January 19. Helen was the daughter of W.E. “Cap” and Laura Brownlee Hodgin.

She grew up in Maitland, MO, graduated with honors from Maitland High School and received a music scholarship to Northwest Missouri State University,
graduating with honors in music and English.

On May 27, 1947 she married Edward Claunch Burris from Hamilton, Texas. He was a student at Northwest Missouri.

Mrs. Burris was a music teacher at Graham, Hopkins, and Eugene Field in Maryville, MO. After some thirty years, she retired from Cherokee Elementary in the Shawnee Mission School District, where she taught first
grade.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Bob Brownlee Hodgin.

She is survived by her husband, Edward, of the home, and son-at-heart, Patrick Whitney, his wife Jennifer, and their children, Ben and Emma. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial contributions can be made to the First Methodist Church in Maitland, MO.

Mrs. Burris’s body has been cremated. Inurnment will be in the Maitland Cemetery, at a later date.

William was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church, had a lifelong interest in mechanics and electronics, was a devoted dog lover, and enjoyed gardening. She was born August 8, 1949 to O’Neal and Maryanna Fergison in St. Joseph, Missouri and was raised by Juanita Lucille Fergison. Janie married Lawrence L. Lake, Sr. on March 23, 1967. He survives of the home. She was a great wife and mother who fought a long battle with cancer. Janie went to be with her son, Ryan Lake, and her parents, who preceded her in death. She loved family, sewing, reading, and raising her grandchildren. Dorothy L. Norris, 91, St. Joseph, Missouri died Wednesday, January 17, 2013 at a local healthcare facility. She was born December 1, 1921 to James and Jane (Peden) Shaw in Tonganoxie, Kansas. Dorothy married Orvil Norris on January 20, 1940. He preceded her in death on July 26, 1980. She was a member of the Methodist Faith. Mrs. Norris was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Sandy Ballentine; granddaughter, Shelly Jiminez; twelve brothers and sisters; and parents. Dr. Joseph Lehmkuhle, DO, 80, St. Joseph, Missouri died Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at his home. He was born April 28, 1932 to John and Ida Lehmkuhle in Casnovia, Michigan. Joseph married Margaret O’Hara on October 7, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois. He proudly served in the United States Army. Joseph had a practice in Grand Junction, Colorado specializing in Alcoholism treatment, and later worked at the State Home and Regional Center also in Colorado. He was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church, MIR House, and also various prolife organizations. He enjoyed golfing, tennis, skiing, and reading. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; and three sisters. Survivors: wife, Margaret; daughters, Mary Ann O’Hara, MD (Tom Hawn, MD), Sister Sheila Lehmkuhle,FMM and Maureen Goetz (John); sons, Brian Lehmkuhle (Belinda), Mike Lehmkuhle, and Sean Lehmkuhle; six grandchildren, Sophia and Lily Hawn-O’Hara, Allyson, Connor, Mary and Ryan Goetz; and sister, Irma Hedgepath. Larry D. Campbell

Larry D. Campbell, 76, St. Joseph, Missouri died Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at his home. He was born July 7, 1936 to Everett Truman and Doris Stevens Campbell in Martinsville, Missouri. Larry married Connie Westlake in 1955. They divorced in 1977. He then married Jean Ann Pearson Barnhouse on September 26, 1977. He graduated from Martinsville High School in 1954 and attended Northwest Missouri College for one year. He was employed by the Missouri State Highway Department as a maintenance man in 1955 at Eagleville, Missouri. In 1965 he was transferred to the Materials Department and promoted to Inspector. In 1965 he transferred to the district office in St. Joseph, Missouri and promoted as General Aggregate Inspector. He was the Missouri State Highway Department “Employee of the Month” in August 1993. He retired in September 1993. He was a Master Mason in the Eagleville Mo Lodge for fifty years, being Worshipful Master in 1960. Larry enjoyed woodworking and made many Missouri clocks that are located throughout the United States. The family would like to thank Dr. Kammerer and nurses, Dr. A.J. and nurses at the Cancer Center and Comfort of Home Healthcare and Hands of Hope Hospice. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Terry L. Campbell;son, Gregory; and daughter, Kim Coker.
