John T. Early, 64, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 14, 1948 to Marie and James Early in Wyandotte, Michigan.
John served in the Navy and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, where he received a purple heart. He was a mechanic, and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Robert Early.
Survivors: mother, Marie Early, Michigan; two sons, Justin Early, Ryan Early, St. Joseph, Missouri; and a daughter, Jessica Early, Anchorage, Alaska.

JoAnn Strasser
1942-2013

JoAnn Strasser, 70, Kansas City, Missouri died Sunday, January 13, 2013 at North Kansas City Hospital.
She was born February 10, 1942 in Savannah, Missouri to Lloyd and Helen Cobb.
JoAnn was a loan officer at Goetz Credit Union for twenty-six years, a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, LIONS Club, Swiss Lodge, and Eagles.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Ralph Strasser.
Survivors: husband, Rick Martinez, Kansas City, Missouri; brother, Lloyd Cobb (Diane); sister, Linda Cobb (Karen); sister-in-law, Elaine Hall, grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Lt. Col. Franklin A. Flesher, U.S. Army
1933-2013

Lt. Col. Franklin A. Flesher, U.S. Army, 80, St. Joseph, Missouri died Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center after suffering from a stroke. Flesher dedicated his life to serving his country, community and family. He was the founder and Executive Director of the National Military Heritage Museum, St. Joseph.
Flesher was born January 11, 1933 in Barberton, Ohio, graduated from Copley High School and enlisted in the United States Army in 1952 at the age of 19. He graduated from the University of Akron, was commissioned in 1958 and retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel.
During his 28-year military career, he was an Airborne Infantry Ranger and served two tours in both Korea and Vietnam. His service in Vietnam earned him the Bronze Star for service, Air Medal for valor and the Army Commendation Medal for achievement.
He is survived by his wife, Judi and his four daughters, Patricia of Nashville, Susan of Kansas City, Peggy of St. Joseph, and Janet of Seattle; his sisters, Dolly in Florida, and June and Cass in Ohio; his brothers, Dale in Georgia and Okie and George in Ohio; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Iona Flesher, Ohio.

Elbert Lee Reed, 80, Maryville, Missouri, died January 14, 2013, at St Francis Hospital in Maryville.

Elbert was born August 22, 1932 in Skidmore, Missouri, the son of the late Ernie E. and Mary G. (Wellington) Reed. He was united in marriage to Peggy Ann (Lawson) on May 9, 1953 in Skidmore.

He was a graduate of Skidmore High School and had worked at both the Uniroyal and New England Business System Factories. Later Elbert was a Caregiver for Association of Group Homes of Nodaway County.

A veteran, Elbert served as a Corporal in the United States Army from 1952 until 1954 in Korea.

He was a member of Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville.

Elbert was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Margaret Blessington (Dec. 20, 1987) and one sister Donna Davis.

Survivors include; his wife Peggy of the home, son Steve (Alicia) Reed, Maryville; daughter, Deanna (Paul) Overton, Ames, Iowa; two brothers, Ernest (Jeannie) Reed, Saint Joseph, Missouri and Gary (Emelie) Reed, Bolckow,
Missouri; one sister Darlene (Fred) Burgess, Saint Joseph, six grand children; Jacob, Ryan, Jordyn Overton, Rachel (Tyler) (Overton)Welch,Jennifer (Steve) Blessington Ball and Anthony (Lynn) Blessington; three great grand children; Joseph Ball, James and Ajazzi Blessington.

Visitation will be from 6-7 PM Thursday, January 17, at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville. Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM, Friday, January 18, at Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville. Burial with Military Honors will be at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Skidmore.

She was born August 17, 1928 to Orval and Bertha (Raines) Duke in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Joyce married Raymond S. Brooks on July 3, 1948. He preceded her in death on February 13, 1987.
She was a member of Green Valley Baptist Church.

Alma married Harold Justus and together they had thirteen children. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother who loved to sing and bake. She also has a twin brother, Vernard Thomas in Coin, Iowa. Doris A. Tiedt, 85, St. Joseph, Missouri died Saturday, January 12, 2013 at a local healthcare facility. She was born December 3, 1927 to Charles Henry and Adria Leola (Harris) Tiedt in St. Joseph, Missouri. Ms. Tiedt retired March of 1990 from Mead after 44 years and one month. She was an avid book reader and collector of music and old movies. Doris was also a lifelong fan of the Lennon Sisters, Lawrence Welk Show and more recently the TV show Bones. Trudy Parker, 59, St. Joseph, Missouri died Monday, January 7, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. Trudy was born January 28, 1953 and adopted by Rudolph and Shirley Nichols. She married David L. Parker in May 1988. Trudy Parker was a member of Grace Evangelical Church. Trudy was the owner of Parker Paws Grooming, where she was a well-known dog groomer with clients all over the United States and was devoted to animal rescue. She was preceded in death by her parents. Robert S. “Bob” Beeler

1914-2013

Robert S. “Bob” Beeler, 98, St. Joseph, Missouri went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 10, 2013. He was born on July 10, 1914 to Samuel J. and Ethel Mary Beeler in St. Joseph, Missouri. Bob was a resident of the VA Home in Cameron, Missouri, a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Army, 814th H.Q. BN. of the 7th Armoured Tank Destroyers, and was stationed in Texas and Germany during World War II. He was an over the road truck driver for Beatrice Foods for thirty years. He then had a second career with Stuppy Floral Products Company for thirty years, retiring the second time at ninety years old. Bob was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of St. Joseph, Missouri, and liked to fish and work. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Edith Opal Clinkinbeard; parents; brother, Frederick L. Beeler; daughter-in-law, Marsha; and a grandson, Mark Wilson. Bob is survived by his daughter, Cheryl K. Bachali and husband Tom of St. Joseph; a son, Robert L. Beeler of Kansas City; brother, Marion P. Emma Jean Neudorff

1925-2013

Emma Jean Nuedorff, 87, St. Joseph, Missouri died Friday, January 11, 2013 at a local healthcare facility. She was born May 28, 1925 in St. Joseph, living most of her life in this city. Mrs. Neudorff was a homemaker, however, had worked at various office positions during her lifetime. She was a fifty year member of First Christian Church, where she served many terms as an elder, in the choir for over twenty years, worked in the church office as a volunteer for twenty years, was the recipient of the First Christian Award and the award for Evangelism, was an active member of the Fortnightly Music Club and a member of The Questers, Joseph Robidoux Chapter. Mrs. Neudorff was very active with her music ability, singing for the U.S.O. during World War II, doing solo work in every city in which she had lived. She also performed the lead in the opera “The Old Maid and The Thief” here in St. Joseph, a Bach Solo Cantata in Conception Abbey, had won a contest among young women in Missouri, Iowa and Illinois to perform as guest soloist with the All City Mens Glee Club of Qunicy, Illinois. This group was patterned after the Fred Waring Glee Club. She was preceded in death by her devoted and loving husband, Warren James Neudorff. They were married on March 27, 1948 in St Joseph; parents, Eldridge (Curley) and Tresa (Stewart) Simon; two brothers, Bob Simon and Billy Simon; and sister, Ruth Langdon. James “Jim” T. Lafferty, 83, St. Joseph, Missouri died Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at his home. He was born April 29, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri. On February 17, 1951 he married Joyce Rose Hill. She preceded him in death on May 16, 1992 He owned Lafferty Trucking Service, Red Rocker Antiques, and worked in construction. Jim enjoyed fishing, antiquing, remodeling homes, reading, and bird watching. He is survived by his loving and dedicated companion of thirteen years Mary Jeffers of the home; devoted daughter, Jamie (Stuart) Wombwell; son, Kevin Lafferty; daughter-in-law, Toni Lafferty; granddaughters, Amy Collier and Erron Lafferty; great-grand-sons, Jacob, Brodie, and Colbee; great-granddaughter, Madison Collier; sister, Jean Portis; brothers, Dave Lafferty and Jerry Lafferty; honorary children, Connie Gross (Larry), Steve Shouse (Clarice), Paul Shouse (Deb), Jimmy Shouse (Linda) and their families; and dear family friends Maxine Kubin and Pat Bigelow. Matilda Cardella “Tillie” Fitzpatrick 1930-2013 Matilda Cardella “Tillie” Fitzpatrick, 82, St. Joseph, Missouri died Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. She was born September 1, 1930 to Samuel and Frances Cardella in Omaha, Nebraska. Tillie married John A. Poe, Jr. on January 7, 1957. He preceded her in death on May 27, 1974. Later she married Edward Fitzpatrick on July 7, 1987 and he preceded her in death on May 2, 2010. She was an Elementary Teacher for the St. Joseph School District for seventeen years. Mrs. Fitzpatrick was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, a lifetime member of Missouri Retired Teachers Association, a sustaining member of the St. Joseph Junior League, Delta Kappa Gamma, Kappa Chapter, St. Joseph Historical Society, the Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art, the Benton Club and the St. Joseph Country Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and sister, Marianne Meers. Ronald Dean Burns, 55, Sheridan, Missouri, died Tuesday, January 8, 2013,  at St. Francis Hospital,  Maryville, Missouri.Ron  was born  October 3, 1957, in Maryville, to Lowell Dean and Helen LaRue West Burns.

A 1976 graduate of Sheridan High School,  he was a farmer in the Sheridan area and owner /operator of the Burns Service, Sheridan.Preceding in death were his father Lowell Dean Burns in 1983, and grandparents Everett West, and Glen and Helen Burns.Survivors include his mother LaRue Burns, Sheridan, brother Don (Paula)Burns, Charlotte, North Carolina, maternal grandmother Beulah West, Clearmont, Missouri and nephews Nick, Dylan, and Mitch Burns.

Anna L. Washington
1945-2013

Anna Laura Washington died on January 2, 2013 at her residence.
She was born to union of Albert and Gladys Stewart on February 9, 1945. She is preceded in death by her parents; grandparents (Abe and Anna Laura Stringer and Edmond and Lottie Mae Stewart), and sister; (Bessie McCree).
She confessed a hope in Christ and was baptized at Trinity Baptist Church under the late Rev. Phillips. Anna was a woman of faith and licensed as an evangelist. Anna and William (spouse) founded Washington’s Puppet Ministry over 20 years ago in Wichita, Kansas. She used the Puppet Ministry as a tool to win souls for Christ. Anna was educated in the St. Joseph, Missouri School District, attending Horace Mann Elementary School. She graduated from Central high School with “four years perfect attendance”, 1964.
Following high school, Anna continued her education and received the following degrees: A Bachelor of Business Administration (Kansas Newman University); a Master in Finance and Accounting (Friends University, Wichita, Kansas); and a Master of Theology degree (Ambassadors of Faith Bible, Inc. St. Joseph, Missouri).
Anna was employed by the U.S. Department of Commerce Finance Division, retiring in 2009 and later from the Northwest Missouri Regional Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center.
She was married to William Y. Washington, Jr. on August 2, 1970 (42 years). She spent many years traveling extensively throughout the United States and Ismir Turkey (Holy Land) working in Civil Service jobs while William served in the United States Air Force.
She enjoyed working in her flower garden, sewing, crocheting, reading the Bible, praying for strangers, friends, and family as a witness for the Lord.
She leaves to cherish her memory: husband, William Y. Washington, Jr. (St. Joseph, Missouri); son, Kenneth Washington (St. Joseph, Missouri); daughter, JerreAnne Washington (Jefferson City, Missouri); sister, Dr. Minister Dorothy Blakley (St. Joseph, Missouri); sister, Lottie Stewart-Dawn (Kansas City, Missouri); mother-in-law, Francis M. Washington (St. Joseph, Missouri); brother-in-law, Leo Blakely (St. Joseph, Missouri); along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Hope Fellowship Church. Interment will be afterward, at Ashland Cemetery. Mary Ellen Dinnwiddie, 84, St. Joseph, Missouri died Monday, January 7, 2013 at Heartland Medical Regional Center.
She was born June 21, 1928 to William C. and Hazel (Smith) Cabiness.
Mary Ellen married Gerald Leroy Dinwiddie on June 27, 1948. He preceded her in death on July 14, 1971.
Mrs. Dinwiddie graduated at Lafayatte High School in 1946. She was a bookkeeper for 29 ½ years at Goetz/Pearl Brewing Company and 12 ½ years with Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. She was also a member of Marvin McMurry United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband.

Rosalie “Rosie” Corbet, 80, St. Joseph, Missouri died Monday, January 7, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
She was born June 17, 1932 to John and Alta E. (Vanderslice) Puccio in St. Joseph, Missouri.
She married Hugh L. Corbet on August 6, 1965. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Corbet worked as a Pharmacy Technician at Heartland West for eighteen years retiring in 1997.
She was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church and the Humane Society.
Rosie was an animal lover and enjoyed shopping, music and movies.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Earnest Mack Swing, 86, St. Joseph, Missouri died Sunday, January 6, 2013 at a local healthcare facility. He was born August 9, 1926 to James and Annie Bell (Armstrong) Swing in Petersburg, Tennessee. Earnest married Marguerite Smith on June 27, 1953. She preceded him in death on May 31, 1973. He served in the United States Army from 1950-1952 while stationed in Germany and was a Veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Swing obtained a Business degree at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and worked for Wire Rope Corporation of America for thirty-three years in Traffic Control. Franklin Leo Bohr, Jr., age 71, Graham, Missouri died Saturday, January 5,
2013 at his home in Graham.

Franklin was born July 7, 1941 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of Franklin
Leo Sr. and Dorothy B. (Hawkins) Bohr Pierson.

He was a graduate of Easton High School, Easton, Missouri and a member of
East Side Baptist Church, St. Joseph.

Franklin had started working for St. Joseph Light and Power as a lineman
working up to and retiring as a supervisor.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and one grandson Matthew Bohr.

Survivors include his special friend Jenevieve Talbott, Graham; daughter
Andrea D. (Judy) Bohr, Orlando, Florida; one son Dave (Susan) Bohr, Memphis,
Tennessee; two grandchildren Jacob and Elizabeth Bohr, St. Joseph.

Mr. Bohr’s body has been cremated. A visitation celebrating Franklin’s life
will be held from 5-7 PM, Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the Price Funeral Home
Chapel in Maryville, Missouri.

Martha Rowlene Dawson, 95 of Burlington Junction, Missouri died on Sunday,
January 6, 2013 at Parkdale Manor Care Center with her family at her side.

Martha was born February 22, 1917 in Quitman, Missouri the daughter of
Ernest Fleet and Blanche (Job) Shelton.

Martha was a graduate of Quitman High School. She attended cosmetology
school before working as a beautician prior to her marriage. Martha was a
member of the Clearmont Christian Church and a member of the Rosanna Chapter
Order of the Eastern Star.

Martha was united in marriage to Elmer Francis Dawson, July 15, 1941 in
Maryville, Missouri. Elmer preceded her in death on August 8, 1991. Her son
Francis Nelson Dawson also preceded her death. Others preceding her in death
were her parents, three brothers Truman, Bill and Edward Shelton; and a twin
sister Georgia Headrick.

Surviving are two sons, Larry (Janice) Dawson, Burlington Junction, MO.,
Kurby (Barb) Dawson, Kansas City MO., a daughter Sandra Kay (Phil) Little
St. Joseph, MO., five grand children and twelve great grandchildren, two
sister-in-laws Beverly Shelton, Independence, MO. and Charlene Green, Costa
Mesa, CA., several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also, friend and caregiver
Fern Yoder.

There will be a visitation at 10 am Wednesday at Price Funeral Home prior to
the funeral service at 11am.

Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery Maryville, MO.

Memorials are suggested to SSM Hospice of St. Francis Hospital or Clearmont
Christian Church.

Donald E. Lucas

1942-2013

Donald E. Lucas, 70, St. Joseph, Missouri, formerly of Denver, Colorado died Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at a local health care facility in St. Joseph. He was born December 13, 1942 to Bathel Wilkinson and Alberta Lucas in St. Joseph, Missouri. He worked for Norton and Sons Trash Service in St. Joseph before moving to Denver. While living in Denver he worked as a crossing guard for Wyman Elementary School where he received a Meritorious Service Award. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Lucas; and his parents. Survivors: two brothers, Charles Wilkinson, New Jersey, and Elree Martin, Cheyenne, Wyoming; son, Billy Lucas; grandson, Isaiah Lucas; granddaughter, Heaven Leigh Lucas, all of Denver, Colorado; and aunt, Maxine Wilkinson, St. Joseph. James R. Vining

1928-2013

James Rodford “Rod” Vining, 84, St. Joseph, Missouri died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. He was born June 14, 1928 to James John and Edith Alfeld (Johnson) Vining in Kansas City, Kansas. He married Margaret Beth Smith and later divorced. He married Carlene Royston on April 23, 1994. She survives of the home. Dr. Vining earned his PHD from Kansas State University in Microbiology. He later worked as a lab director. Rod was a member of Ashland United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Praise Band, St. Joseph Yacht Club, Barber Boys, Y-Fry, Buchanan County Republican Club, and the Kansas State University Alumni Association. Dr. Vining also served as 1st Lieutenant in the National Guard. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors: Wife, Carlene Vining, St. Joseph; two daughters, Karen Raines (Larry), Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Frances “Francie” Bachman (Tom); step-daughter, Nicole Zeigler (John), Cincinnati, Ohio; Step-son, Shawn Gibson (Jennifer), Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren, Benjamin, Patrick and Gregory Bachman, Stephanie Burwell (Dusty), Emily and Aaron Raines, Joshua, Luke and Daniel Zeigler, and Colin Gibson; brothers, Charles “Chuck” and Larry Vining; and numerous nieces and nephews. Robert Edwin Davis

Robert E. Davis, 65, Barnard, Missouri died on Wednesday, January 2, 2013,
at St Francis Hospital in Maryville, Missouri.
Robert was born  April 6, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri to the late
Frederick Walter Davis Sr. and Ruth Ann Parker.
Robert was a graduate of the South Nodaway High School Class of 1965,
Barnard.  On March 3, 1966 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp,
serving his country in the Vietnam war, where he was a Sergeant and dog
handler.  He was discharged from the Corp on March 2, 1971.
Robert was united in marriage to Karla Victoria Roser, July 28, 2012 in
Barnard.
Robert was a member of the O’Howell-Strader American Legion Post #102,
Barnard, where he served as a past commander and district commander, a life
member of the Bakersfield, California Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #97,
serving as past commander, and had worked as a building inspector for the
State of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include wife Karla Roser Davis, of the home; one son Jeff (Gitti)
Davis, Barnard; one daughter Robin Dredge, Kansas City, Missouri; two
grandchildren Erin and Mason Dredge, Maryville; brothers Bill (Judy) Davis,
Lancaster, California, Ted (Gwen) Davis, St. Joseph, Missouri; one sister
Vicki (Jim) Fenner, St. Joseph; step-father Ted Parker, Barnard, several
nieces, nephews, cousins; and his special four legged friend Bailey.
Mr. Davis has been cremated.  Memorial services will be held 10 AM Saturday,
January 12, 2013 at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville, Missouri.
Inurnment will be in the American Legion Cemetery, Barnard with military
services under the auspices of the Tri-C American Legion Post #464,
Conception Junction, Missouri and the James Edward Gray American Legion Post
#100, Maryville.
A reception will follow the inurnment at the American Legion Building in
Barnard.
