Leo Whitaker

1912-2012

Leo Whitaker, 100, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri left this life on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born on November 30, 1912 to William and Edith Whitaker in St. Joseph, Missouri. Leo married Rosie Donnelly on June 18, 1938. She preceded him in death on May 3, 1993 after 54 wonderful years of marriage. He was a supervisor for St. Joe Power and Light Bus Division for thirty-seven years. He was also a member of the Moila Shrine Temple Brotherhood Lodge 269 and Masonic High Twelve Club 49. He was an active member of 1st Lutheran Church of St. Joseph until he moved to Springfield 2 years ago to be closer to his family. He was a loving parent and grandparent who always put his family first. Mr. Whitaker was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brothers, Bill, Henry, and Calvin Whitaker. Marietta Spugnardi Hoehn, 87, St. Joseph, Missouri died Friday, December 14, 2012 at a local healthcare facility. Marietta was born October 1, 1925 to Anthony and Dulcie (Smith) Spugnardi. She married Basil C. Hoehn on May 29, 1948. Mrs. Hoehn worked at Swift & Company, St. Joseph Light and Power, Noma Lites and was a bookkeeper for St. Joseph Teachers’ Credit Union. She was a member of the St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church, alumnae of Sacred Heart Convent, and Ladies Auxilliry at Heartland Regional Medical Center, where she was an active volunteer. Stacy Lynn Anderson went to be with the Lord early Friday morning, surrounded by family, December 14, 2012 at her home in Faucett, Missouri. Stacy was born February 9, 1964 in St. Joseph, Missouri to James A. and Linda Jo Anderson. She was 48 years old. Stacy was an honor Graduate of Central Missouri State University, receiving a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. She also attended Law School at Univeristy of Missouri-Kansas City for one year. She received her Para-Legal license from Missouri Western State University. Stacy had been employed at KFEQ Radio and had worked for attorney Creath Thorne for the past twelve years. Her ill health forced her to leave that position in July 2012. Stacy was a member and former treasurer at Faucett Baptist Church. Sam was an avid Chiefs fan, enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, loved his grandchildren, and enjoyed playing “Rock Band” with his children. Brian married Deanna Wright, of Kansas City, Missouri on August 7, 1998 in Parkville, Missouri. Brian was a Sergeant in the Missouri State Highway Patrol, stationed at Troop H, Saint Joseph, from 2001-2006. He then transferred to Troop A serving in Platte County as Zone Sergeant and was a member of Troop A SWAT & Honor Guard. Brian was a member of the North Heartland Community Church and Missouri State Troopers Association. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents. Raymond Vincent Lanman

1944-2012

Raymond Vincent Lanman fought a battle with cancer for nearly seven years, beating it twice. On December 4, 2012 that fight ended as Ray took his last breath in his bed at home after a brief illness, in St. Joseph, Missouri, which is the way he wanted it. It was always his style to do things on his terms, and it is fitting that he did this with his final choice, spending his last days with his friends and children. He was born July 14, 1944 to Maurice and Evelyn Lanman in Washington DC and was a member of a Masonic Lodge. His devotion to work is seen through the relationships he made and his extraordinary accomplishments in the railroad industry. Until his death, Ray served as Vice President of Corporate Development for Herzog Transit Services, Inc. In this position he was a major player in making Herzog one of the United States’ largest private passenger rail service providers. Ray was an icon for doing business the right way. His reputation as one of the industry’s best and brightest followed him throughout his career and he was trusted and loved by those who had the opportunity to do business with him. He was an amazing man that the world will miss, but those who know him well know, with his last breath, these famous words were undoubtedly forming in his mind: “Don’t Think it Ain’t Been.” He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Evan Jack. Ray was a devoted and loving father to his two daughters, Renee Conover and Beth Hahn, and to his three sons, Bart D. Lanman, Joseph Lanman, and Christopher Lanman. In addition to his children, Ray is survived by nine and a half beautiful grandchildren; his brothers, Maurice Lanman, Charles Lanman, Thomas Lanman, Bart J. Lanman, and Michael Lanman; his sisters, Regina Lanman and Evelyn Lanman; companion, Barb Duane; mother of his children, Amy Lanman; and a large and close extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. Charles E. Leimbach

1945-2012

FERNWOOD, Idaho – Charles “Chuck” Edward Leimbach 67, passed away December 1, 2012 at his home in Fernwood, after a seven year battle with lung cancer.

Chuck was born the fourth son of John and Irma (Scofield) Leimbach on March 20, 1945, near Stewartsville, Mo. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Plattsburg, Mo., graduated from Plattsburg High School, class of 1963; attended Highland Junior College, Highland, Kan., before joining the U.S. Air Force, where he served eight years, with an honorable discharge.

He retired from the Civil Service in March 2005, after 34 years at Hill Air Force Base in Utah.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

With the love of hunting and fishing, he moved to Idaho, where he’s lived with his wife of32 years, Glenna Lee (Goetz), who survives him of the home.

He is also survived by children: Cristina, Janet Lynn and Clinton and their children; his siblings, Robert (Norma), Hickory, N.C.; Leonard (Glenda), John C., all of St. Joseph; Carrie Psyhogios, Owasso, Okla.; Helen (Arthur) Zech, Plattsburg; Barbara Ann (Edmond) Coon, Rochester Hills, Mich.; David (Dianne), Senoia, Ga.; and Donna Faye (Paul) Johnson, Avon Park, Fla.; her brother, Irvin “Skip” Goetz, Bull Shoals, Ark.; 15 nieces and nephews; 26 cousins and many friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left in his memory to First Baptist Church, Plattsburg, or Cancer Research Foundation.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Plattsburg.

Lela Faye Knadler

Lela Faye Knadler, 94, St. Joseph, Missouri died Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. She was born March 11, 1918 to Earl Orestus and Clara Louise (Miller) Rapp in Easton, Missouri. She married Herbert E. Knadler, Sr. on February 28, 1940. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Knadler was baptized in the Platte River then became a member of Midway Baptist Church near Easton, Missouri. After her marriage she then became a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church in San Antonio, Missouri where she served as song leader. She was also a member and past president of the Oakland Extension Club. Lela enjoyed photography, her friends called her “Shutter Bug”. She made a picture album for each of her four children and seven grandchildren to treasure, and they did. She loved her children and grandchildren very much and greatly enjoyed doing things for them. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert E. Elizabeth married Greg Myers on May 26, 2001. He survives of the home. Liz was an Associate with Ronald W. Nelson PA, which has its offices in Lenexa, Kansas. She joined the firm in 2012. She attended Washburn University School of Law and obtained her Juris Doctor in 2004. She was a member of the Johnson County, Kansas Bar Association, the Kansas Bar Association, the American Bar Association, Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity, Women Attorneys of Manhattan, the Kansas Women Attorneys Association, and the Kansas Child Support Enforcement Association. Edward Eugene Anderson, Sr.

Edward Eugene Anderson Sr., 79, St. Joseph, Missouri died Thursday, November 29, 2012 at his home. He was born November 9, 1933 to Charles and Alice Bell (Torson) Anderson in Horton, Kansas. Edward married Arlene Norvell on October 8, 1952. She survives of the home. He spent twenty-eight years in the Navy and Army National Guard where he made lifelong friends. Mr. Anderson was a truck driver for Imperial Oil Company for nineteen years, Saint Joseph Petroleum for sixteen years and was a devoted employee wherever he worked. He was a member of Woodson Chapel Christian Church, American Legion Post # 11, Eagles Lodge #49, and the Army National Guard 20 Year Club. Edward was dearly loved by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a friend to all who met him, always had a smile and a sweet word for the ladies, and a joke for all of the guys. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast who enjoyed long trips. He was preceded in death by his parents. H. Marcella Young, 93, Savannah, Missouri died Thursday, November 29, 2012 at her residence. She was born September 18, 1919 to John and Verleen (Hall) Hopkins. Marcella married August C. Young on September 24, 1938. They were married for 74 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Savannah. She traveled through four states for 14 years entertaining as a member of the Hopkins Sisters Review and also taught tap dancing and was a Missouri Flying Farmers Queen in the 1950’s. Mrs. Young was a farmer’s wife and enjoyed raising her family on the farm. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Roscoe Young; sisters, Lois Lockwood, Fern Wray, Mioma Bing, and Yvonne Jackson. Steve R. Crockett, 60, St. Joseph, Missouri died Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. He was born August 16, 1952 to Squint and Stoutie (Stout) Crockett. Steve graduated from Dekalb High School in 1970. Mr. Crockett retired from St. Joseph Light and Power with over 20 years of service and then worked as a correctional officer at WRDCC for the last 10 years. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the IBEW local union. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, but a bigger fan of his family and friends, whom he loved very much.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Vicki Sue Crockett; and parents. Survivors: son, Cory Crockett; and brothers, Virgil Crockett (Deby) and Greg Crockett (Joyce). Services: 10:00 A.M. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, where friends may call after 5:00 P.M. Thursday.
