1924 – 2019

Wathena, Kansas – Donald “Leon” Culp, 94, of Wathena, Kansas passed away Sunday, April 7, 2019 at the Wathena Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Leon was born on April 24, 1924 in Fortescue, Missouri to Tilman & Annie (Robinson) Culp.

He served in the U.S. Army & was a member of the American Legion post #161 & the First Baptist Church of Wathena, Kansas. He worked for Richmond Screw & Anchor as a spot welder. Leon married Gary Lou Krumme on June 10, 1950 in Troy, Kansas. She preceded him in death on August 14, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers & 1 sister.

Survivors: Daughter, Linda Morehead, St. Joseph, Missouri; Son, Arley (Patty) Culp, St. Joseph, Missouri; 5 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren & 3 great-great grandchild; Nieces & nephews.

1947 – 2019

Judith Irene Logston, 71, of St. Joseph, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2019 at her home.

She was born August 27, 1947 in rural Buchanan County, MO, She graduated from Faucett High School and Hillyard Vocational with a degree in Nursing. She married Dale Logston on August 7, 1967 in Savannah, MO. She worked at Saxton Care Centers as a LPN. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and crafts. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Judith was preceded in death by husband, Dale Logston on September 4, 2015, father, Chester Hayes and mother, Marjorie Hayes.

Survivors include, daughter, Beth (Austin) Wilhite of Saint Joseph, son, Steve (Brandy) Logston of Crab Orchard, NE, son, Scott (Jamie) Logston of Saint Joseph, brother, Dudley Martin of St. Joseph, sister, Linda Monney of St. Joseph, 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

1950 – 2019

Linda Sue “Teddy” Fanning, 68, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away peacefully Friday, April 5, 2019 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, surrounded by her family.

She was born May 6, 1950 in St. Joseph, daughter of Mabel and Fred Bray. Teddy married her grade school sweetheart, Virgil Fanning on May 3, 1991. She enjoyed time with her sister, Rosemary. She loved sitting at her kitchen table and coloring. She also loved her family very much. Teddy enjoyed sitting on her front porch, watching the neighborhood children play, which often called her Grandma.

Teddy was preceded in death by mother, Mabel Cannon, father, Fred Bray and brother, Jerry Bray.

Survivors include, husband, Virgil Fanning of the home, daughter, Rose Cooper, daughter, Carol Williams, sister, Rosemary Jehorek, all of Saint Joseph, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Rupp Funeral Home, Pastor Rob Diamond officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Mount Auburn Cemetery. Memorials are requested to the COPD Foundation.

 

Marian Ruth Lewman
1932 – 2019

Marian R. Lewman, 86, of Saint Joseph, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2019 at a Oregon, MO Care Center.

She was born August 15, 1932 in Barnes County, ND, daughter of Esther and AI Kiser. She graduated from Rogers High School, class of 1950. She married Calvin Lewman on November 1, 1953 in Rogers, ND. She was an avid quilter and loved to read.

Marian was preceded in death by husband, Calvin Lewman, father, AI Kiser, mother, Esther Kiser, daughter, Susan Ryder, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Survivors include, son, David Lewman of Omaha, NE, grandson, Zackeria Ryder of Gracy, KY, grandson, K. William Ryder of Princeton, KY, grandson, Geoffrey Ryder of Louisville, KY, brother-in-law, Grady Crawford of Coon Rapids, MN, son-in-law, Kevin Ryder of Elkton, KY, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10 at the Rupp Funeral Home. An additional family visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2019 at Derfelt Funeral Home in Oswego, KS. Duane L. “Bub” Hazlett, Jr.
1962 – 2019

Duane L. “Bub” Hazlett, Jr., 56, of Onaga, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at his home.

He was born May 24, 1962 in Topeka, the son of Duane L. Hazlett, Sr. and Joyce D. Burks Hazlett. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1980. While at Topeka High he lettered in four sports and was the starting quarterback his senior year.

Bub was involved in many sports activities and had managed the Sharks Baseball team in Topeka.

He worked in the Water Treatment Department for the City of Topeka for nearly twenty years before he retired due to health reasons.

Bub was preceded in death by his parents, Duane L. Hazlett, Sr. and Joyce D. Gibson.

Survivors include his siblings, Peter Whitebird (Judy), Topeka, Donna Baker (Dale), Topeka, Pam McGimpsey (William), Langley, OK, and Kelli Lambert, Topeka, his companion, Maia Fitzpatrick, Bridgeport, CT and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and family members in Arkansas and Kansas City, KS.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 12th at the Highland Park Baptist Church in Topeka. Family and friends will meet from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. before the service. A dinner will follow the service at the church. Melvin Kerns, 77, of Saint Joseph, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2019 in Saint Joseph.

Melvin was born November 30, 1941 in St. Joseph, son of Clara and Raymond Kerns. He graduated from Lafayette High School and later served in the U.S. Navy. Melvin loved hunting and fishing.

Preceding him in death are his parents and sister, Audrey. Survivors include children, David Kerns, Rick Kerns, Joe Kerns, Rob Franks, and Mark; siblings, Lonnie Kerns, Jessie Kerns and Zelda Huff; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Caroline F. Klawuhn, 86, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, April 5, 2019.
She was born October 1, 1932.

Caroline graduated from Benton High School. She married Jerry Klawuhn June 30, 1953; he preceded her in death on December 12, 2006. Caroline was a seamstress at Worlds of Fun. She was a longtime member of Sweet Adelines and loved square dancing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Elizabeth (Elam) Kline; son, Joel Klawuhn and brother, James Kline.

Survivors include sons, Jamie Klawuhn, Jason Klawuhn, Jack Klawuhn; daughter, Jeannie Nordstron; sisters, Marilyn Browning, Elaine Chirieleison, Elizabeth Atkison; brothers, Fred Kline, Bud Kline, John Kline; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Charlene Virginia(Mulvaney)Brunk, 93, St. Joseph, MO died Friday, April 5, at her daughter’s (Sandra Meeks) home in St. Joseph, MO.

Charlene had been an employee of Big Smith and St. Joseph State Hospital both for 11 years. She also enjoyed quilting,making quilts and crocheting.

Charlene was born Aug.12,1926 in Bigaloo, MO. She was married to Edgar Wayne Brunk on Nov.19,1943 and were both members of the Gaynor Methodist Church.

Charlene was preceded in death by her husband Edgar Wayne Brunk; parents, James M. and Ruby O. (Gallop) Mulvaney; four brothers, Harold Mulvaney, Lloyd Mulvaney, infant brother, James Mulvaney; three sisters, Wilma Adams, Francis Mulvaney, Shirley Miller; son-in-law, Jimmy Meeks and grandson, Joshua Bix.

Jack Wayne Fennel
1927 – 2019

Jack Wayne Fennel, 91, of St. Joseph, MO, died April 4, 2019. Jack was born June 17, 1927 in Moberly, MO, to William Edward, Jr. and Thelma (Fort) Fennel.

He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II; receiving an honorable discharge. Jack received an Bachelors of Art degree in Criminal Justice from Missouri Western State University. He worked as a conservationist for the Missouri Department of Conservation; retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, Shrine, and American Legion.

Jack married Carole Frances Fowler on March 5, 1950, in Harrison, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on October 18, 2011. Also preceding him in death were his parents; infant son James Fennel; brother Dr. William Fennel III; and sister Jeanne Fennel.

Survivors include daughter Terrie Bentle (Dr. Larry A.); son Dr. Jack Fennel(Barbara); eleven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Jack loved anything to do with the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to Semper Fi Foundation, Semperfifund.org, would be appreciated.

Mr. Fennel has been cremated under the direction of the Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Services will be at a later date. Inurnment will be in the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO.

Clint Gerdes, 36, passed unexpectedly at his residence in Loveland, CO, March 23, 2019. He was born June 15, 1982 in St. Joseph, MO to Ronald Gerdes and Alrita Wagner.

His father, Ronald Gerdes and sister, Kasey Gerdes Sanders proceeded him in death.

Gayla Ruth Marriott, 57, of Saint Joseph, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2019 at a Kansas City hospital after a tough bout with cancer.

She was born June 20, 1961. Gayla was preceded in death by husband, Brian D. Marriott in 2005. Survivors include, son, Brian M. Priscilla A. “Teedie” Kirby, 80, of St. Joseph, passed away March 31, 2019.

Priscilla was born September 30, 1938, in Highland, Kansas to the late Len and Fannie (Hammond) Cruse.

She was a graduate of Lafayette High School and member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Priscilla was preceded in death by her husband Gilbert E. Kirby, Sr. and several siblings.

Surviving family: children, Ginger Kirby, Gilbert Kirby, Jr., Deanna Kirby, Dennis Kirby (Michelle), Vicki Kelley (James, Jr.); sister, Norma Shane; brother Virgil Cruse; 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren.

Per her wishes, Mrs. Kirby has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.

Grover C. Violett
1928 – 2019

Grover C. Violett, 90, of St. Joseph, died April 1, 2019. Grover was born September 5, 1928 in St. Joseph, to Grover and Bessie Mae (Codgill) Violett.

He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Grover was a meat cutter working for A&P, and retired from Milgram Grocery Store as Manager.

He married Doris Akes on April 26, 1952; and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Rod Violett; Rhonda Smith (Gary); Bruce Violett; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister Dixie Ann Curry (Donald); other relatives and friends.

Grover was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters.

Mr. Violett has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. There will be no services at this time.

 

Tina Marie Edwards
1958 – 2019

Tina Marie Edwards 60, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, April 1, 2019 at Mosaic Life Care Hospital.

She was born July 29, 1958 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of the late Joyce and Charles Dilley. She attended Lafayette High School, and married Donald July 31, 1976, and he survives of the home. She worked as a daycare provider in her own home. Tina loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and enjoyed antique shopping. She also attended the Family Worship Center Church.

Tina was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Marilyn Larison.

Survivors include: husband, Donald Edwards of the home, daughters, Joy Pike, St. Joseph, MO, and Dawn (Jason) Folgate, Bethany, MO, son, Donnie (Heather) Edwards Jr., Rea, MO, grandchildren, Dawson and Carley Pike, Devin, Destiny, Dexter, and Ellie Sue Edwards, Henry and Rylee Folgate, Serenity and Brody Throckmorton, brother, Russell (Trudy) Dilley, Savannah, MO, sisters, Cindy Hiltner, Tammy Beaver, Georgetta Henley, and Kim Hoyt all of St. Joseph, MO, and brother-in-law, Jessie Larison, St. Joseph, MO.

Cela F. Milbourn
1926 – 2019

Cela F. Milbourn, 93, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2019, at Mosaic Life Care, St. Joseph.

She was born March 20, 1926, in St. Joseph. Cela married Kenneth W. Milbourn in 1953. He preceded her in death on April 3, 1993.

She enjoyed crocheting and cooking, but most of all, Cela loved her family. She will be greatly missed.
Cela was also preceded in death by her son, Kenneth W. Milbourn, Jr.; daughter, Charlotte Moran; parents, John and Geneva (Rutherford) Schuch; one sister; and seven brothers.

Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Wentworth; son, Steven Milbourn; step-son, Donald Milbourn; grandchildren, Michael Moran, Damon Milbourn, Melissa Milbourn, Branden Wentworth; Isaiah Milbourn; and Kenneth Milbourn; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol Avery and Sharon Groce; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Charles H. “Chuck” Denbow, Sr.
1937 – 2019

Charles H. “Chuck” Denbow, Sr., 81, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, April 1, 2019, at his home surrounded by family.

He was born June 12, 1937 in Parker, SD to Harold and Eldora (Purcell) Denbow; they preceded him in death.
Chuck married Rose Preece on June 13, 1980; she survives of the home.

He was a Class of 1955 graduate of Parker High School, where he excelled in football, basketball and was nominated for the All-State basketball team. After graduating, Chuck joined the US Coast Guard. He worked for Pearl Brewery for many years until they closed, then became an over the road truck driver. And later worked in the meat department at Hy-Vee. Chuck was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the St. Joseph Boat & Yacht Club, where he is an honorary member now. He enjoyed boating on the Missouri River and Lake of the Ozarks. He loved bowling, classic cars and trucks and loved attending car shows. Chuck treasured the time he spent with his family barbequing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brian Denbow; step-brothers, Kenneth and Owen Waltner.

Additional survivors include children, Connie “Disco” Denbow, St. Joseph, MO; Chuck Denbow, St. Joseph, MO, Ronnie Denbow (Gayle), St. Joseph, MO; brother, Ken Denbow (Anne), San Diego, CA; step-sister, Ione Teizen, Freeman, SD; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; step-son, Derrick, Soanes (Melanie), Norwich, England; first wife and mother of his children Rosie (Casebolt) Denbow, his beloved dog, Mitzy; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Marilyn was born on January 25, 1937 in Hatfield, MO the daughter of Kenneth M. and Lucile (Campbell) Moore. She attended Ridgeway Grade School, high school in Palmyra, MO then graduating from South Harrison High School, Bethany, MO in 1955. She had worked as a cook for the South Shelby School District and was a homemaker and mother of seven children. She attended the Trinity United Methodist Church, Brookfield, MO. Marilyn enjoyed sewing, craft work, growing flowers, gardening, baking and was an avid reader. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Marilyn was married to Jay Dee Callighan on June 9, 1955 at the Methodist Church in Palmyra, MO. He preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 2006. (Bryan) Becker, Atchison, KS, Peggy (Steve) Beachum, Norfolk, VA and Cindy Swinarsky, Virginia Beach, VA, a brother, Robert “Bob” (Dee) Moore, Tulsa, OK, and two sisters, Elizabeth (Ed) Carter, Cumberland, IA, and Carol Coulson, Bethany, Mo, Sister-in-law, Jean Moore, Lee Summit, MO, twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews. Her parents, husband Jay Dee, brother Richard “Dick” Moore, brother-in law, Roger Coulson, and two grandsons, Brandon Bennett and Scott Callighan preceded her in death.

 

Hattie Marie Shaver (Jacobsen)
1927 – 2019

Hattie Marie Shaver, 92, of Lancaster, KS passed away Friday, March 29, 2019, at her home in Lancaster.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lancaster.Family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services at the church. Hattie Marie Jacobsen was born on January 5, 1927 in Atchison, the daughter of Hans and Marie (Tadsen) Jacobsen. Hattie was a 1944 graduate of Atchison High School and she had attended Concordia Teacher’s College in Seward, NE. Hattie taught school at Weinman District #61, south of Atchison and later she worked for 23 years at the Lancaster grade school as a cook serving meals to the children. Hattie was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lancaster and was a member of the Women of ELCA group. Hattie enjoyed cooking and sewing.

Hattie and Victor Shaver were united in marriage on November 13, 1946 at the Trinity Lutheran Church parsonage in Atchison. Victor preceded Hattie in death on May 21, 2003. Her parents; sons, an infant son (1949), Daniel (1980), Thomas (2013); daughter, Vicki Hauschild (2016); brother, Carl Jacobsen (1980); sister, Bridgitta Roberts (2011).

Survivors include two sons, David Shaver, Lancaster, Paul (Ruth) Shaver, Sabetha, KS; daughter, Dianne (Bill) Pagel, Tallahassee, FL; son-in-law, Virgil Hauschild, Lancaster; daughter-in-law, Martha Shaver, Topeka, KS; sister, Julianna McQueen, Columbus, OH; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Kathy Sue Hull
1954 – 2019

Kathy Sue Hull 64, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, March 25, 2019 at Mosaic Life Care.

She was born December 3, 1954 in San Angelo, TX, daughter of the late Ethel and Clyde Jones. She worked at Benders and Tiffany Square in Dietary, and she was a home health care giver. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and ceramics. She was a member of the Pentecostal of St. Joseph Church.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Jack, Jerry, Bob, and Larry Jones.

Survivors include: husband, Gary Hull of the home, son, Jeremy (Tiffany) Hull, daughter, Margie Hull, 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, brother, Phillip Jones, and sisters, Patricia, Jeannie, Rosemary, and Connie.

William Richard LeRoy Crabtree
1925 – 2019

William Richard LeRoy Crabtree 93, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Friday, March 29, 2019 at Mosaic Life Care Hospital.

He was born April 14, 1925 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Ethel and Vernon Crabtree. He graduated from Lafayette High School, and he served in the United States Army, a veteran of the World War II, and a recipient of the Purple Heart, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal. He recently flew to Washington D.C. and participated in the Honor Flight with son David. He worked at Lawhon Construction as a Millrite, and he was a member of the Carpenters Union. He enjoyed model air planes, woodworking, welding, show horses, and he was a great artist. He also spent 20 years at flea markets with a funnel cake concession. William was a member of the Whitesville Masonic Lodge, past Master, Cosby Masonic Lodge #600 A.F.& A.M., Scottish Rite 32nd degree master mason, York Rite, Moila Shrine Temple, Zeredetha Lodge #189, Eastern Star, Pastor worthy Patron.

William was preceded in death by wife, Irma Jean Crabtree, his parents, and brothers, Tiny and Ronald.

Donald Dean Long
1933 – 12019

Donald Dean Long 85, best known as Dean of DeKalb, Missouri, passed away Friday, March 29, 2019 in Saint Joseph, MO.

On March 8, 1952, he married Frances Louise Bunten known as Franke Lu. They were married 67 years. Dean was the son of the late Loren and Marie (Ford) Long, and had never lived more that four miles from the farm on which he was born July 2, 1933, except for the two years that he served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. He was a Farmer who liked quarter horses, John Deere tractors, music shows and going to Branson. Dean was an active member of DeKalb Christian Church, and the South Side Rotary since 1979. He and Franke Lu had been members of the Hitch Hikers Camping Club, Good Joe Sam’s Camping Club, and Midwest Prairie Schooners Camping Club.

Dean was preceded in death by parents. Survivors include, wife, Franke Lu Long of the home, and a sister, Ramona Cowger, DeKalb, MO., and her family.

Funeral services: 2:00 pm, Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Rupp Funeral Home, Pastor David Jordan officiating,. Joshua Searcy
1978 – 2019

Joshua Searcy, 40, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at University of Chicago Hospital. Josh received a heart transplant two years ago. He fought until he had no more fight left.

Josh was born April 4, 1978 in St. Joseph Missouri.

Josh worked for Vanguard Airlines then went on to become Regional Manager for Allegiant Airlines.
Josh enjoyed traveling, going to the lake, boating, skiing and most of all spending time with his family and friends. Josh loved his son Bryson dearly and his nieces Olivia and Avery were his love bugs!

Josh was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Helen Cox and Gerald Searcy.

Survivors include his son, Bryson Searcy (Breanna Becerra); parents, Brad and Melinda Taylor, Jerry and Lori Searcy; brother, Noah Taylor (Amanda); nieces, Olivia and Avery Taylor; grandparents, Mary Searcy, John and Shirley Taylor, and a number of other loving relatives and close friends.

A service celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday at 3:00 P.M. at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, Interment Memorial Park Cemetery, with visitation Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Joseph J. Rivera
1940 – 2019

Joseph J. Rivera, 78, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away March 28, 2019, at his home.
He was born November 5, 1940, in St. Joseph.

Joe married Kathleen Haffey on May 22, 1974. She survives of the home. He was a drywall contractor for many years. Joe was an avid fisherman and hunter with his best friend, Larry Muff, and loved his Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. He also loved his faithful basset hound companions. Joe was proud to have coached softball for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Josephine (Garcia) Rivera, and siblings, Anthony, Lazaro, Paul P., Aldolpho, John J., Rosemary, Frank J., and Guadalupe Rivera.

Survivors also include his wife, Kathy; children, Julie Rivera Rush (Tom), Jennifer Hamm (Kevin), Joseph Rivera, Tim Rivera, Jim Rivera, Angela Williams (Danny), and Aleisha Rivera; siblings, Lollie Rivera, Carmen Rivera Palma (Pete), Helen Rivera Thornton, and Pat M. Rivera (Jackie); ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, St. Patrick Catholic Church. The family will gather with friends 12:00 Noon to 12:30 P.M. Captain Timothy Travis Owens
1967 – 2019

Captain Timothy Travis Owens, 51, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away peacefully after a long, hard battle with cancer, Thursday, March 28, 2019, with his sweet wife and caretaker, Rachel, and his family by his side.

He was born September 12, 1967 in St. Joseph, MO. Travis married the love of his life, Rachel McGinness on September 26, 1997. He was a Class of 1985 Benton graduate. After graduation, he served 4 years active duty in the U.S. Army and 11 years in the U.S. Army Reserves. Captain Owens retired from the St. Joseph Fire Department after 25 years of dedicated service. During his service he was a member of the SJFD Honor Guard and a recipient of the SJFD Lifesaving Award. He also served as the I.A.F.F. Local 77 President for several years. Travis was also an EMT and worked on the ambulance for 10 years. Travis was a member of The Keys Christian Fellowship Church. He and his daughter, Baylor were baptized together on December 20, 2015. He loved spending time with his family, coaching and watching sports.

Travis was preceded in death by his father, Roger Owens.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Rachel Owens; daughters, Keely Bruckshaw (Taylor), Baylor Owens; son, Jacob McCollum (Mercedes Estes); granddaughter, Addisynn; his mother, Helen (Newberry) Nelson; sister, Tammy Kline (Gregg); brother, Roger “Gary” Owens (Brenda), nieces, nephews, and numerous extended family and friends.

Celebration of Life 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, Grace Evangelical Church. The family will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, Grace Evangelical Church. The family suggests memorial gifts to Mosaic Life Care Cancer Center.

 

David S. Angle, Brig. Gen. (Ret)
1948 – 2019

David Stephen Angle passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at the age of 71.

David, the son of Robert and Phyllis Keck Angle was born March 3rd, 1948 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He graduated Benton High School in St. Joseph in 1966. He married Kathy McGlothlin, who also attended Benton, on April 6, 1968. Their time as newlyweds was short lived as David had joined the United States Air Force and was deployed overseas on his first active duty assignment. After two years of overseas deployment David was assigned to Altus Air Force Base in Oklahoma to complete the two remaining years of his active duty service. After discharge, he returned to St. Joseph and began working for the United States Post Office.

In 1974 David accepted a full-time position with the Missouri Air National Guard. He served in the Guard the remainder of his career. He served in the Missouri Air National Guard from 1974 to 1984 where he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. He transferred to the Oklahoma National Guard in 1984, serving in the 138th Fighter Wing in Tulsa, OK and the 137th Airlift Wing in Oklahoma City, OK. David earned a number of major awards and decorations in his career, obtaining the rank of Brigadier General November, 2005. David had the unique distinction of being assigned as a Vice Wing Commander at both the 138th Fighter Wing and 137th Airlift Wing before being assigned as Assistant Adjutant General, Joint Force Headquarters, Oklahoma Military Department, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. David prided himself in the way he served his fellow servicemen. David retired from the Guard November, 2007.
David loved spending time boating and fishing with his family and friends. He eventually purchased a lake property in Grove, OK where he and Kathy built their first lake house in 1990. David and Kathy enjoyed traveling. They frequented Branson, MO, Arizona and Colorado. Family was always a huge part of his focus and he loved spending time with his family. Nothing brought him more joy than time with his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Phyllis Angle.

Survivors include his wife Kathy of the Home; daughter, Stephanie Angle-Walls and husband Herb of Parkville, Missouri; son, Stephen Angle and Lori Hampton of Claremore; grandchildren, William David Walls, and Paige Angle; brother, Terry Angle and wife Evangeline along with numerous extended family and military family.
