George Joseph Lehning 1949 – 2019

George Joseph Lehning, 70, of Troy, Kansas died Sunday evening, June 23, 2019 at his home.

George was born on May 10, 1949 in Queens, New York to John and Marie (Saur) Lehning. He served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam.

George married Ruth Parrish in 1989. She survives of the home.

Additional survivors include his children; Constance, Jacob and Jeremy Lehning, Dawn Marshall (Lew), Bruce Parks (Gina), Charles Parks (Kathi) and Christopher Parks (Julie); Brother, John Lehning.

Several grandchildren. One of his most memorable moments is when his grandson and name sake, Joseph Parks became an Eagle Scout and chose him for the most influential person in his life.

Memorial Service: Monday, July 1, 2019 – 7:00 P.M.

At the Harman Rohde Funeral Home in Troy

Jeanette Marie Frump 1956 – 2019

Severance, Kansas –  Jeanette Marie (Davis) Frump, 63, of Severance, Kansas passed away Sunday, June 23, 2019 at her home.

Jeanette was born on February 21, 1956 in Fort Riley, Kansas to Albert Charles & Jeanette Louise (Boyd) Davis.

She graduated from Elwood High School. Jeanette worked for Wal-Mart in the customer service department & was a member of the Elwood United Community Church.

Jeanette married Billy Lynn Frump on November 9, 1974 in Elwood, Kansas. He survives of the home.

She was preceded in death by her father, brother, Richard Davis Sr., father-in-law, Bill  Frump, nephew, Joey Frump and by her brother-in-law, Glen Lyons.

Additional survivors; daughters, Trina  Earl (Dan), Jennifer Edie (Jon),

Heather Frump (Joey Dean).

Grandchildren, Kaliey Smith, Shawn Dean, Hunter Smith & Zoee Edie.

Robert (Bob) R. Edmisson 1921 – 2019

Robert R. Edmisson, age 98, of Johnson, Kansas, passed away June 20, 2019, at Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson, Kansas. He was born May 16, 1921, in Englewood, Kansas, the son of George I. Edmisson and Maude E. Drake Edmisson.

He married Beulah M. Salmans on March 30, 1947, in Johnson. She died on December 24, 2016. Bob lived most of his 98 years in Johnson. He and Beulah worked side by side selling Farm Bureau Insurance in Johnson for 38 years. Bob was very civic minded: serving Johnson on the City Council for over 40 years; being on the Southwest Kansas Regional Planning Commission; being a Boy Scout leader; serving in numerous ways at the United Methodist Church of Johnson including Administrative Board Chair and on the Building Committee for the addition to the church building. He also served by going on a mission trip to Haiti. Bob was always willing to help people in any way he could.

A veteran Of World War II, he served our country in the U. S. Army Air Corps in England. Bob was a crew chief mechanic on the B 24 Liberator bombers. Flying was one of his life pleasures.

He deeply loved God, his family, country, and community.

The family wants to extend a very special thank you to the staff of Stanton County Long Term Care Unit for their love and care for Bob.

Surviving are one son, Delmar (Jo) Edmisson of Blackwell, Oklahoma; one daughter, Vicki (Don) Stogsdill of Prosper, Texas; and five grandchildren, Greg (Julie) Edmisson of Johnson, Kansas; Rob (Gina) Edmisson of St Joseph, Missouri; Rob (Nancy) Stogsdill of Prosper, Texas; Mike (Michelle) Stogsdill of Bloomington, Illinois; Amy (David) Leathery of Normal, Illinois; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, six siblings, and one great-grandson, Corbin Dean Edmisson.

Celebration of life service will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 24, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson, Kansas with Pastor Mary Courtney officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas, with military rites by VFW Post 3684. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM with family members present on Sunday, June 23, 2019, at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson. Gerald K. Parker 1938 – 2019

Gerald Keith Parker, 81, of Lancaster, KS died Friday, June 21, 2019 as the result of an automobile accident on 286th Rd and 73 Highway in Lancaster, KS.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, June 26th, 2019 at the Lancaster United Methodist Church with Rev. Seth Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in the Lancaster Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 pm on Tuesday, June 25th, 2019 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Gerald was born on Jan. 19, 1938 in Horton, KS the son of Chester N. and Anna B. (Kruseburg) Parker. He attended the Halling Grade School, Denton and graduated from Leona High School in 1957. He served in the Kansas Army National Guard. Mr. Parker worked several place during his life, as a farmer early, then for Hannah Car Wash, Portland, OR, then as Doniphan County Road Foreman and last as performing maintenance as a certified Millwright, for Abitibi Price, Hiawatha, KS. Gerald was a member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church, and enjoyed black powder shooting, and target practice with his guns, woodworking, metal working in his shop, making things out of leather and made several baby cradles, rocking horses, quilt racks, and welding pieces. He was mentioned in 4-H Who’s Who and especially enjoyed talking and helping his friends, family and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was married to Jolene Susan Copper in Dec. of 1966. They were later divorced. He was married to Wanda Elaine Eagle on March 12, 1999. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include four sons, Todd Parker, Lancaster KS, Scottie Parker, Sioux Falls, SD, Joel Parker, Leona, KS, and Joshua (Crystal) Parker, Raytown, MO, two step sons; Scottie Keller, Atchison and Adam Keller, Effingham, KS, a step daughter, Stephanie (Josh) Garrison, Atchison KS, a brother Richard M. Parker, Independence, MO, fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. His parents, a sister, Marilyn JoAnn Adams, preceded him in death.

Goldie Belle Smyth (Snopak) 1923 – 2019

Goldie Belle Smyth, 95, formerly of Atchison, KS passed away on June 19, 2019 in Pampa, TX.

Memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Friday, June 28, 2019 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS, with Rev. Jim Cormode officiating. Burial will follow at the Sumner Cemetery. Goldie was born August 5, 1923, the daughter of James and Ellen (Miller) Snopak. She attended the Wieman School. Goldie worked as a housekeeper for Mount Saint Scholastica and then for the Kansas Industry for the Blind. She was a member of the Kansas Association of the Visual and Hearing impaired. Goldie enjoyed crocheting and reading.

Goldie married Victor Smyth on May 8, 1971. He preceded he in death on November 25, 2010. She is survived by one sister Helen Flory, Potter, KS, two daughters Louise and Ron Popplewell, Groom, TX , Diane William Craine, Waldron, MO, ten grandchildren twenty great-grandchildren and fourteen great-great-grandchildren.

Paul “Butch” Allen Huffman 1950 – 2019

Paul “Butch” Allen Huffman 69, of St Joseph, passed away Saturday June 22, 2019 in St. Joseph.

He was born May 27, 1950 in St. Joseph, son of Mary & Leo Huffman. He attended Benton High School. He had previously worked at Wal-Mart as a Meat Cutter. Butch enjoyed fishing. He was also a very artistic and caring person. He was a member of King City Baptist Church.

Butch was preceded in death by his father, Leo Huffman, mother, Mary Kathleen Huffman, sister, Melanie Greathouse, and brother, Leo “Doc” Huffman.

He is survived by sisters, Hedy (Richard) Loehnig of St Joseph, Becky (Craig) Graham of St. Joseph, and Sherrie (Don) Schottel of St. Joseph, children, Scott Hayes and Shelby Barbin, and several grandchildren.

Mr. Huffman will be cremated under the direction of the Rupp Funeral Home. No services are scheduled at this time

Wayne F “Grizz” Rygaard 1937 – 2019

Wayne F. “Grizz” Rygaard, 81, of Effingham, KS died on Friday, June 21, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Memorial Celebration of Life services will be 7:00 pm on Friday, June 28th, 2019 at the Becker-Dyer- Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. David Burnworth, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Hoyt officiating. The body has been cremated. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, at the funeral home. Interment of the cremated remains will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 29th, 2019 at the Sunset Memory Gardens of Atchison. Wayne was born on August 23, 1937 in Atchison KS the son of Gene and Pearl (Cox) Rygaard. He graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1955. He served in the National Guard. Wayne had worked as a logger nearPort Angles, WA. before moving back here. Grizz worked most of his life as a mechanic for the Capital Electric Company, Kansas City. He enjoyed shooting black powder rifles, tinkering around the house, a simple country living, hunting, fishing, and helping his children with projects.

He was married to Janet Worrel on Nov. 28, 1959 at Sacred Heart Church, Atchison. Mrs. Rygaard survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son Eric Rygaard, Lawrence, KS, two daughters, Mary Flynn, Topeka, KS, and Bonny (Mark) Cassella, Topeka, KS, twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. His parents, two sons, Kevin and Mark Rygaard, and two sisters Marcia and Edra Ruth Rygaard preceded him in death.

Arthur DeShon Moore

Arthur DeShon Moore of Pompano Beach, Florida died on June 19, 2019 N Osage Beach, MO. He was born on July 27, 1924 in Abilene, TX the son of Arthur Durbin Moore and Evelyn DeShon Moore.

When he was 7, he and his mother moved to her hometown of St. Joseph, Missouri where her parents and 11 brothers and sisters lived. He graduated from Central High School in 1943. Upon graduation, he entered the Naval Aviation Cadet Program and was a pilot in the Pacific during World War II. After the war he entered Kansas University, graduating in 1949 with a degree in Fine Arts. He started his business career in Houston, Texas selling outdoor Christmas decorations to cities in Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana. In 1950 he returned to Kansas City and helped found Pitman Mfg. Co. In 1959 he witnessed the Chicago Fire Department had rigged one of his tree-trimming machines with a fire hose. The idea for the Snorkel Fire Truck was formed and he left Pitman to start Snorkel Fire Equipment Company. In 1963 he moved the company to St. Joseph, MO. He sold Snorkel Fire Equipment Company in 1971 to ATO/Figgie International and stayed on as President until his retirement in 1991. During this time, he developed and sold Snorkel Industrial Aerial Work Platforms around the world.

Art married Sue Block in 1993 in San Antonio, Texas. They enjoyed traveling the world and spent the summers in Osage Beach, Missouri and the winters in Pompano Beach, Florida.

Art wrote his memoirs, entitled MY STORY. Art received the Lifetime Achievement Award from International Powered Access Federation in 2016 and was inducted the American Rental Association Hall of Fame in 2017. Art was on the Board of Directors of Snorkel. He is a Life Member of the Kansas Jayhawk Society. Art is a member of Harper Chapel United Methodist Church, Osage Beach, Missouri.

He is survived by his wife Sue, his children Melissa Moore (Aaron Snyder) of Denver, CO, Arthur D. Moore, Jr. (Jerry Lin) of Henderson, NV and Kristyn Sanders of Columbia, MO, a step-daughter Lourenda Block of Washington, DC., Grandson Zen Moore, Seattle, WA and Granddaughters Aubrey and Ainsley Sanders of Columbia, MO and numerous cousins.

Darrell Rusher

Darrell Rusher, 67, of St. Joseph, was born August 17, 1951 in Wichita, Kansas and passed away on June 21, 2019 in St. Joseph, surrounded by his loved ones. He is preceded in death by his parents Dale and Thelma Rusher, brothers Tom and Gale, in-laws Danny and Mickie Langford, niece Andrea Myers, great-niece Corrine Myers, and great-nephew John David Furlong.

Darrell married Tina Langford in Savannah, Missouri on May 7, 1988 and is survived by his wife and four children, Shawna (Matt) Rae, Jered (Jessica) Rusher, Dan (April) and Chad (Heather) Langford. 13 grandchildren, Kayle and Kourtney Hurliman, Chance Rae, Lilah, Chase, and Shane Rusher, Dakota and Gabriella Moulden, Brayden and Alex Langford, and Quentin, Camille and Zoe Trotter. His furry kids, Skeeter and Olivia. Sister, Judy (Harold) Imel, Brother Jerry (Elaine), Sister in law, Nita Rusher and many friends and family.

Mr. Rusher has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home.

Karlon Ray Abels

Karlon Ray Abels 65, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, June 21, 2019 at his home.

 

He was born July 28, 1953 in Savannah, MO, son of Doris and William Abels. He attended Lafayette High School and th U.S. Naval Academy. He served in the Navy for 8 years. Karlon was a Simple man. Served his country, his God, loved his family, and enjoyed making tasteful meals. He was a member of Eagles Lodge and the Reach Church.

Karlon was preceded in death by father, William Thomas Abels.

Survivors include, wife, Linda Abels of the home, mother, Doris Edwards of St. Joseph, children, Dawn “Michelle” Manning of Elk Ridge, MD, Karla Abels of St. Joseph, , Anthony Abels of St. Joseph, Lindsey “Janelle” Abels of Columbia, MD, Carole Cline of St. Joseph, siblings, Sharon (Roy) Perry of Meadows of Dan, VA, Kathy (Bill) Bledsoe of Kansas City, MO, Kerwin (Bridgette) Abels of Cameron, MO, Lecia (Robert) Summerer of Wentworth, SD, William T. “Billy” Abels Jr. of St. Joseph, Bernadine (Steve) Lancey of Rea, MO, Carl (Lisa) Edwards of Hamilton, MO, David Edwards of St. Joseph, Thomas Abels of St. Joseph, Crystal (Timmy Bacon) White of St. Joseph, 13 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
