Katherine “Honey” Hopper
1925-2017

hopper-katherine-obitphoto1Katherine “Honey” Hopper, 91, Elwood, Kansas passed away Friday, January 21, 2017 at a local healthcare facility.
She was born September 12, 1925 in Leona, Kansas.
Katherine married James Hopper on February 2, 1951, who survives the home.
She helped for many years run the concession stand and ball club for Elwood, and later helped with HUD housing,
She enjoyed her flower and water gardens. She also loved to spend time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary (Molinare) Bottiger.
Survivors also include children, Tim Hopper (Lee Anne) and Shari Brewer (Gary); six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jack L. Allen
1941-2017

Jack Lee Allen, 75, of Robinson, died Saturday evening, January 21, 2017 at the Hiawatha Community Hospital.
Jack was born at Robinson, April 2, 1941, one of three children born to Asa and Ruth Haney Allen and moved with his family at a young age to Bellevue, Nebraska. He grew up there where he attended school and graduated high school. Jack spent his working life in Bellevue: worked for the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce a number of years, and later served as director to the SAC Museum, at that time located at Offutt AFB, before retiring and returning to Robinson. He spent many hours working and volunteering at the Robinson Community Store.
Jack was a member of the Air Force Association. To say Jack was a Nebraska Husker fan was an understatement! He held season tickets to their games for many, many years.
Survivors include two brothers: Jerry Allen of Bellevue, Jim Allen of Waterloo, NE; nieces: Julie Grace and Michelle Allen; a nephew Jeff Allen; and good friends and caregiver to Jack, the Brian Stroud family.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister Mary Jeanne Allen
It was Jack’s wish to be cremated with no formal service being planned.

Leola “Pinky” (Cochrane) Stanton
1925-2017

stanton-leola-obit-photoLeola “Pinky” (Cochrane) Stanton born February 11, 1925 in Mound City, Missouri, died Saturday, January 21, 2017 due to complications from flu and prolonged illness. Her husband for almost 70 years, Keith Stanton and children, Sarah and Joe were at her bedside at Shady Lawn Nursing Home.
Leola trained for nursing at Sisters Hospital in St. Joseph and had a long career in various areas of nursing, changing the lives of many patients, families, students, co-workers, and friends.
She will be missed by them as well as her other children, Ralph, Paul and K.C.,grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, as well as all of those who provided her excellent care during her illness.

Eleanor Mae “Ellie” Stark

She was born July 31, 1926 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Dick and Mary (Owens) Bridenthal, they preceded her in death.
Eleanor married H.L. “Pat” Stark November 14, 1950, he preceded her in death on May 1, 2005.
She attended NWMSU and St. Joseph Junior College. Eleanor taught at Hyde School and later owned and operated the local Dairy Queen stores with her husband.
Eleanor was a thoughful, loving, caring and nurturing person to her family and friends, especially her many generations of DQ girls. She was a longtime member of Patee Park Baptist Church and also belonged to the Neely School Lunch Bunch for twenty years. Eleanor was a sports fanatic, she loved her Royals, Chiefs and even Nascar racing.
She was also preceded in death by brother, Kenneth Bridenthal; sister, Margaret Macier; and granddaughter, Shawna Lysaght.

Raymond Potter Cook Sr.

Raymond Potter Cook Sr. 63, of Faucett, Missouri, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017 at his home. He was born September 25, 1953 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Eleonor and Ernie Cook Sr.. He married Vicki Bratcher on June 9, 1975 and she survives of the home. He worked as a Diesel Mechanic, and was a volunteer fire fighter in Faucett. Raymond enjoyed lawnmower rides, hunting, fishing, and but most of all playing pool, and belonged to the ACME Pool League. He was a Baptist. Raymond was preceded in death by parents, son, Raymond Cook Jr., three brothers, Ernie Jr, Stillman, and Allen Cook. Survivors include, wife, Vicki Cook of the home, three daughters, Shelly (Jeremy) Furr of Faucett, MO, Becky (Mark) Steeby of Amazonia, MO, and Kelly Cook of Faucett, MO, grandchildren, Colton, Brayton, Preston, and Lanton Furr, Kurtis and Brittany Steeby, and Kristina Cook, sister, Pam Shaline of St. Joseph, MO, and his Yorkie best friend Chloe.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Rupp Funeral Home, with Pastor Andy Campbell officiating, The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. She graduated from Benton High School class of 1969. She was involved in sports, and was the football and basketball homecoming queen. She worked at United Missouri Bank, Farmland – Omnium, and at the Lake Contrary School.
She enjoyed cooking and sewing. Carla was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Idlet, brother, Virgil Hawkins, and father, Marvin Hawkins. She is survived by her mother, Mary Hawkins of St. Joseph, MO. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Tuesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. She will be cremated under the direction of the Rupp Funeral Home following the services.

Elwood, Kansas – Samuel Stephen “Steve” Wilson, 65, of Elwood, Kansas passed away January 20, 2017 at his home.
Steve was born on December 14, 1951 in Unionville, Missouri to Dale & Vera (Wells) Wilson. He worked as a self-employed trucker for Steve Wilson Trucking.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Robert Lee Wilson & a son, Tyler Dale Wilson.

He was born September 1, 1933 to George and Rhoda (George) Litton, they preceded him in death.
Paul married Sandra Jeanne Manthey June 1, 1956,and were married 60 wonderful years, she survives of the home.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and worked for the Saint Joseph Police Department for twenty seven years. Paul also worked for the Buchanan County Sheriff Department for seventeen years.
Paul was a Boy Scout Leader and also coached Bantam Football and boys baseball. He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War.
He was also preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

He was born May 7, 1953 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Roy and Rebecca (Robinson) Day, they preceded him in death.
Roger married Shirley Mae Dickerson August 16, 1980, she survives of the home.
He was a welding teacher for Hillyard Technical Center for thirty- eight years, retiring in 2013. After retirement he continued his love for welding and farming.
Roger was a pilot and loved aviation and was a member of E.A.A. Chapter in Liberty, Missouri, A.W.S. and N.R.A. member. He was also a member of SKILLSUSA and worked with them at the local, state and national levels, volunteering his time for the kids for over twenty-five years. Roger loved his Harley Davidson motorcycles. He was good at making people feel welcome and always took the time to stop and listen to what they had to say. Roger was an animated story teller and will always be remembered as “favorite Uncle Roger” to many.

He was born in Savannah, Missouri to Clyde and Mary (Williams) Ray Sr., they preceded him in death.
Billy married Rosalie Hiatt December 29, 1957, and they recently celebrated their 59th wedding Anniversary.
He was a devoted, loving, husband, father and grandfather. Billy was a member of Wyatt Park Baptist Church and an avid drag racing fan. Billy won the Super Stock World Championship in 1975. He loved all forms of racing, whether he was participating or just watching.
He was also preceded in death by brothers, Caryl and Keith Ray; and grandson, Scott Thompson.

Margaret Jean (Ferguson) Eslinger 70, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at a St. Joseph health care center. She was born October 9, 1946. She attended James Catholic Church. Margaret was preceded in death by mother, Neva Willis-Feurt, father Jack Willis, husbands, Guy H. Ferguson, Charles Eslinger, son, Johnathon Ferguson. Survivors: daughter, Tonya Ferguson, friends, Matt and Denise Mereness, step daughter, Kathy Barker, and several cousins including Larry Osman of Albany, MO.

James “Jim” Patrick Doolan
1927-2017

unnamedJames (Jim) Patrick Doolan, 89, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Carriage Square in St. Joseph following a brief illness. He was born September 7, 1927, and raised in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of the late Fred and Theresa (Kilkenney) Doolan, and was a proud and lifelong resident of the City he loved and appreciated. He was preceded in death of his parents, wife of 53 years, Frances (Mihelic) Doolan, who had passed in December 2009, infant son James Patrick Doolan.; brothers Ed, Bill, Jerry, and his sister Margaret Boos. Jim is survived by his sons , David Doolan, Joseph Doolan (Becky), and his daughters; Barbara Rich (Vernon), Maureen Hershewe (Joseph), Kathleen Howard (Dave) , a brother Gene (Edna) Doolan, 14 grandchildren, 8 great-grandsons, 2 great-granddaughters, nieces, nephews, cousins and many close and wonderful friends, all who were near and dear to him. After graduating from St. Patrick’s Grade School, Jim continued his Catholic education and graduated from the former Christian Brothers High School, and the St. Joseph Junior College. He met his wonderful wife, Frances Mihelic and they were married in 1956 at St. James Catholic Church. He retired after 30 years of service of the United States Postal service in 1988. Besides being blessed with a wonderful wife and family, Jim had earned and accomplished much during his life. He was a Navy Veteran -WWII; Past Commander and Finance Officer and Lifetime Member- 359 Fourth District -American Legion; Lifetime Member of the Knights of Columbus Council 571; Charter Member of Ancient Order of Hibernians; and Member of the South side Progressive Club. Humbly, Jim was a faithful member of St. James Catholic Church, St. James Holy Name Society and St. Vincent De Paul. Being of Irish decent and often referred to by friends and family as Seamus (Gaelic for James), he took great pride in coordinating and participating with the float on the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade. This was Jim’s simple way of celebrating all the lives before him, thanksgiving for the present and the faith for the future of hopes, dreams and aspirations for everyone. A celebration and toast to life itself. Slainte Jim!! Jim had a great passion for all sports, but above all he had a great appreciation for the game of baseball; and especially listening (prior to televised games) and watching the KC Royals with cold beer in hand. He also rooted on the KC Chiefs. Jim had many devotions and adorations in his life; Our Lord Above All, parents, wife Frances, his children, siblings, grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends; including the special place he held in his heart for the wonderful caregivers at Country Squire and Carriage Square and to his attending medical care providers; physicians, nurses and aids at Mosaic. I could not stay another day, to love, to laugh, to work or play; tasks left undone must stay that way. Alvin “Bud” Wright
1944-2017

Alvin “Bud” Wright, 72, Gower, Missouri, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at a healthcare facility.
He was born February 11, 1944 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Alvin, Sr. and Catherine (Bokay) Wright they preceded him in death
Bud retired from Union Pacific Railroad after many years. He also owned and operated his own limo company.
He never met a stranger, and everyone knew who he was.
He was also preceded in death by brother, James Wright; nephew Jeff Wright; niece, Angel Conant; sister-in-laws, Jeanette and Mary Wright. Survivors include his son, Aaron Wright (Julie), KCMO; grandchildren, Olivia and Andrew; brothers, Mike Wright, John Wright (Wanda); and sister, Ramona Conant (Craig).

He enjoyed watching TV, and was a member and past Master of the Charity Zeredetha Lodge, he was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of the Moila Shrine. George was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include daughters, Rachel and Melissa Worthen of the home, a grandson Drayvn Ross Worthen. three sisters, Bettijane (Rick) Martinez of Evans Mills, NY, Cindy Smith of Wathena, Ks, and Becky Fiden of St. Joseph. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Friday at the First Lutheran Church, with a memorial service to be celebrated at 7:00 PM, Pastor Roger Lenander, and Rev. Brian O. Wahweotten Kenowes
1971-2017

Brian O. Wahweotten, Kenowes, 45, of Topeka, died Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.
He was born June 15, 1971 in Topeka, the son of Larry and Connie Wahweotten. He graduated from Topeka High School and received an Associates Degree from Haskell University.
Brian was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, the Native American Church and the Drum Religion. He had worked as a mechanic at several shops in Topeka.
Survivors include his father, Larry Wahweotten, Augusta, his mother, Connie Wahweotten, Topeka, three sons, Logan Wahweotten, Benjamin Wahweotten and Eric Price, all of Topeka; two daughters, Mariah Wahweotten and Julie Porter (Tramel), all of Topeka; a brother, Larry G. Wahweotten, Topeka;, three sisters, Angela Wahweotten, Lawrence, Michelle “Shelly” Wahweotten, Gladstone, MO and Tracey Wahweotten, Wichita; and ten grandchildren.
Brian will lie in state Friday, January 20th at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt where family and friends will meet from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Native American Church services will be 5:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Nozhackum Hall, east of 158th & K Rds. Burial will be Sunday morning in the Wahwassuck Cemetery.

She was born March 11, 1926 to Lawrence and Gertrude (Walter) Derks in Clyde, Missouri.
Dolly married Joseph Frank Ciemiega on October 9, 1948. After 53 years of marriage he preceded her in death on February 15, 2002.
She worked at American Electric in accounting as a bookkeeper and also at JCPenney before retiring.
Mrs. Ciemiega was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church, where she was a member of St. Anne’s Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella, and Ladies of Charity. She also was a dedicated volunteer for the St. Joseph Cathedral Food Pantry.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Martin, George, Ted, Cletus, and sister, Bea.
Survivors include her children, Carol Ellingson (Bryon), Cheryl Thacker (Blane) and Larry Ciemiega (Belinda); six grandchildren, Kara, Brad, Jeremy, Eric, Jason and Ashley; four great grandchildren; brothers, Alfred, Father Joel, Irvin and Chris; and sisters, Rita, Mary Ann, Dianne and Tina.

HORTON – Leonard M. Thomas, JR, Nish KA Wah Suck, 65, of Horton, passed on Thursday, January 12, 2017.
He was born December 8, 1951, in Holton, the son of Leonard M. Thomas, Sr. and Orcelia J. Mason Thomas.
JR was a member of the Kickapoo Tribe and followed the Drum way of life. He worked in the Tribe’s Farm and Ranch Program.
JR and Karen S. Harrison were married on December 16, 1972 in Topeka. She survives, of the home.
JR was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Elwyn K. Miller and Loren J. Thomas.

JR was also an adopted father to the Wewenes family and Shayla Whitebird, and an adopted brother to Rose Allen.

He was born February 2, 1951 in St. Joseph, Missouri, where he was a graduate of Benton High School.
Mr. Erickson was a retired truck driver.
Robert liked to barbecue and loved being with his family, especially his sons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and great grandson, Liam Erickson.
Survivors include his sons, Timothy, Jeremy and Damien Erickson all of St. Joseph; grandchildren, Preston, Madison, Camden, Damien, Jr. and Dillon Erickson; great grandchildren, Kayden and Alice Erickson; sisters, Kathy Allen and Debbie Erickson; and nieces and nephew, April Layman and Roberta, Alberta and Thomas Dawe.

David E. Blunt
1945-2017

David E. Blunt, 71, of Hiawatha, died unexpectedly Sunday morning, January 15, 2017, shortly after arrival at the Hiawatha Community Hospital.
David was born at Council Bluffs, Iowa, September 22, 1945, one of nine children born to Ray and Elizabeth O’Dell Blunt and had lived in the Northeast Kansas area nearly all of his life. David graduated from Horton High School with the class of 1963 and had worked for Flair Fold wood shutter plant in Hiawatha for 20 years prior to working at the White Cloud Casino for 10 years. In later years, David developed health problems: went on kidney dialysis in 2008, kidney transplant in 2012, and just last June a mild heart attack. Through the years, he enjoyed bowling and watching football.
He and Alice Lucas declared their love for each other April 1, 1971. She survives.
Other survivors include children: Travis (Cindy) Lucas, Ward Lucas, Patti (Dave) Brodman, Michael Blunt, Ricky Blunt, Terry Blunt; a sister Donna (Don) Harvey of Bern; and numerous grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Philip, Charles, Lawrence, and four siblings in infancy.

He worked at Charlie Harrison Plumbing and Faulkner Plumbing as a plumber for 40 years. He served in the United States Army, and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, camping, and building things. Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Janice VanHoutan, son, Danny VanHoutan, his parents, a brother, Ted VanHoutan, six sisters, Lorraine, Frances, Sylvia, Barb, Georgi, and Betty. Survivors include three sons, Billy (Marla) VanHoutan, Tom and Ronnie VanHoutan all of St. Joseph, daughter, Diana Riggs of Bigelow, MO, 15 grandchildren, several great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm on Friday, with a joint memorial service for Janice and Donald to be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, at the Rupp Funeral Home. Leslie Eugene Smith, 85, Atchison, Kansas died Monday, January 16, 2017 at the St. Luke’s Hospice House surrounded by his family.
Graveside services and interment of cremated remains will be Friday, January 20, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict Catholic School Endowment or St. Luke’s Hospice and may be left in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom the final arrangements have been entrusted.
Leslie was born on April 16, 1931 in Highland, Kansas the son of Henry and Gretha (Scofield) Smith. He graduated from the Atchison County Community High School.
He and the former Doris M. Watowa were united in marriage on November 5, 1953 at St. Joseph’s Church in Atchison.
Leslie was formerly employed for Page Airways in Atchison. Then he began working as a machinist-mechanic for Bendix Corporation, later with Allied Signal Corporation and then Honeywell, all in Kansas City, retiring in 1995.
He served his country in the United States Army from December 8, 1953 until his honorable discharge on December 7, 1955.
He was always active and enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing and camping. He was a dedicated husband and father to his family.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Doris M. Smith, Atchison, KS, two daughters, Sheryl (Terry) Sanders, Atchison, KS, Beverly (David) Kentzler, Atchison, KS, a son, Tom (Melinda) Smith, St. Joseph, MO, a sister, JoAnn Walton, Sabetha, KS, six grandchildren, one step grandchild, five great grandchildren, and three step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

She married Donald on June 4, 1955 St. James Catholic Church, he passed away in 2003. She retired from the St. Joseph School district after 25 years of service as an engineer, she also worked at Safeway as a cashier and as a homemaker. She was a life long member of St. James Catholic Church, St. James Alter Society, the Legion of Mary, and the Daughters of Isabella. Kitty was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers, Pat and Thomas Joyce, and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Stout. Survivors include four daughters; Winnie Cooley of Westwood Hills, KS, Mary Helen Przybylski of Parker, CO, Jeanie (Richard) Heath of St. Joseph, MO, and Sharon (Troy) Depperschmidt of Raytown, MO, three grandchildren, Jennifer (Adam) Blake of Littleton, CO, Frank (Lisa) Heath, and Katiy Heath Woolard both of Brooklyn, NY, 2 great grandchildren, Logan and Peyton Blake.

Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Church with Fr. Jeremy Heppler, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A parish rosary will be recited on Wednesday, January 11th at 6:00 P.M. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation with the family to follow until 7:30 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict Parish or the Atchison Library and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Richard was born on August 5, 1930 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the only child of Francis and Florence (Inbody) Siskey. His parents divorced and his mother later married Bill Orler and they moved to West Mineral, Kansas. He graduated from Mineral Rural High School in 1948 and began teaching in a one room school south of Columbia, Kansas.
In May of 1952, he entered the United States Army and was stationed in West Berlin. After his discharge, he returned to Kansas State Teachers College (Pittsburg State) and completed work on his Bachelor’s Degree.
He and Verbena Omeck of Cherokee, Kansas were united in marriage on August 13, 1955 in West Mineral, Kansas. They moved to Atchison where he was employed by the USD 409 at Washington Elementary, Martin West Elementary and both Atchison Junior and Senior High Schools for thirty-seven years until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Benedict Parish in Atchison, participating at Sacred Heart Church where he served as a lector for over forty years. He was also a member of the Fleming-Jackson-Seever Post #6 of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus Council #723, National Education Association, Encore Players at Theatre Atchison and Friends of the Atchison Library. He was named “Mr. Atchison” during the celebration of the Atchison Sesquicentennial. He served as a volunteer at the Atchison Visitor Center and the Sacred Heart Variety Store. He and his wife enjoyed many years of traveling in both the United States, especially Alaska, as well as numerous foreign countries.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Verbena Siskey, Atchison, KS, three children, Tina (Steven) Pahls, Kansas City, MO, Tim (Diane) Siskey, Kansas City, MO, Mary Liggett, Atchison, KS, one sister, Rosemary Morrison, Pittsburg, KS, seven grandchildren and two great grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Pete and Michael Orler, and a son-in-law, Loren Liggett.

He graduated from Todd High School & worked his life as a farmer. Bernard was a member of the First Baptist Church & the Maranatha Class of Wathena. He served on the Soil Conservation Board for 27 years & the REA Board for several years.
Bernard married Elaine Louise Zeltwanger on June 27, 1942 in Plattsburg, Missouri. She survives of the home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Robert, Lawrence & Frederick Walter.

He was born July 22, 1943 in Fort Morgan, Colorado.
Jimmy married Sandra Brunk on June 13, 1964. She survives of the home.
He retired from Quaker after thirty years as a complex operator manager.
Mr. Meeks was a member of Green Valley Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents William Herschel and Ellen Louise (Pollard) Meeks; brother, Jerry Meeks; and grandparents, Jess and Martha Pollard and Oscar and Bertha Meeks.

Marjorie June (Pawling) Dougan

Marjorie June (Pawling) Dougan, 90, Gladstone, Missouri, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017 at daughter and son-in-laws after nearly six months on hospice.
She was born September 29, 1926 in Los Angeles, California to Robert L. and Emma J (Peterson) Pawling, they preceded her in death.
Marjorie married Frederick Dougan on April 20, 1946 and were married for fifty-five years until his death in 2001.
She worked in food service at Washington Elementary for the St. Joseph School District until it was closed, then went on to Robidoux Middle School until her retirement in 1991.
Marjorie was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in St. Joseph. The past fourteen years she lived in Kansas City, Missouri with her sister, Marquitta Miller. Her older sister, Dorothy Oehrle also lived with them until her death in June 2013.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Russell and Quentin Pawling.
Additional survivors include her only child, Linda Hill(Garney); three grandchildren, Angela Lakey (David), Sara Burns (Brandon) and R. Matt Hill (Courtney) who always called her “Honey” instead of grandma; five great-grandchildren, CJ and Nicholas Lakey, Lincoln and Raylee Burns, Rhys Hill and a baby boy due in February.
Marjorie was a very loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt to many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her very much.

She had lived at Laverna Heights Nursing Home in Savannah, Missouri for the past 10 months.
Linda Jo was born March 1, 1941 in St. Joseph Missouri to William and Vida Jo (Downing) Foster, they preceded her in death.
She married James A. Anderson March 7, 1959, he survives of the home. They enjoyed nearly 58 years of marriage and were blessed with two daughters, Stacy and Ronny Jo Anderson.
Jim and Linda Jo owned and published the Buchanan County Farmer/Gower-Stewartsville Gazette from 1970-1988. Linda Jo had worked for the newspaper several years prior to purchasing the publication.
Linda Jo was an avid outdoors person, loving to care for their huge lawn with lots of flowers, a fish pond and other decorative pieces. She always decorated her home for the holidays, especially Christmas, making sure she had a Christmas tree in every room of their home. She and Jim lived in the Faucett Community their entire life.
She was a very active member of Faucett Baptist Church serving as Church Clerk, VBS Director, kitchen committee and anything else she was called upon to do.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Stacy Lynn Anderson; brother, Errol Lee Foster; and brother-in-law, Ronnie Anderson.
Additional survivors include daughter, Ronny Jo Anderson (Bernie); and a very special granddaughter Alexis Lynne Cotton.
Everyone loved Linda Jo and she will be extremely missed by family, friends, neighbors and former coworkers at The Buchanan County Farmer.

James was born June 8, 1930 in Van Buren, Missouri the son of James Moses and Anna Myrek Perkins. He attended schools in Van Buren, Missouri; St. Louis, Missouri and New Orleans, Louisianna.
James served in the United States Army from 1966 until his retirement in 1986 with the rank of Colonel. He served as Chaplain for thirty years most recently at Ft. Leavenworth from 1983 until 1986.
Mr. Perkins relocated to Atchison, Kansas in November of 2016 from Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was a member of Lake Hamilton Baptist Church in Hot Springs and attended Riverbend Bible Church since moving to Atchison.
Survivors include three sons, James R. (Karen) Perkins, Jr., Florissant, MO; Peter K. Perkins, North Little Rock, ARK; John A. (Lindsay) Perkins, St. Louis, MO; two step-sons, Andrae (Michelle) Bopp, Walla Walla, WA; Anthony (Janet) Bopp, Booneville, MO; six grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.

She was born August 16, 1925 in St. Joseph, to Amanda Mydland (Thompson) Hill. Her mother was born in Mydland, Norway, and her father, Ralph R. Hill, was a St. Joseph native.
Mildred married Calvin Cyrus King, from Burr Oak, Kansas, on Sept. 21, 1946, not very long after Calvin returned from the battlefields of World War II, where he fought at Guadalcanal. They enjoyed more than 62 years together until his death on Jan. 2, 2009. For 14 years of their retirement, from 1985 to 1999, Mildred and Calvin lived in Florida, where “every day was like a vacation.”
Calvin worked as a supervisor at Armour’s for more than 40 years, and Millie worked at Swifts for many years. During World War II, Mildred worked in St. Joseph at the sub depot for an Army officer, a job she truly enjoyed. Her mom, Amanda, was one of the heroic “Rosie the Riveters” during World War II.
Mildred and Calvin were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Sonja Lee King, on July 23, 1947. A case of encephalitis, a side effect of the measles, took their beloved daughter to heaven on April 20, 1957. A baby girl died at birth on March 11, 1958.
Mildred is much appreciated and well-loved by many, especially by her brothers, Ralph Alden Hill(Carol), of Navarre, Florida, and Alfred Taylor Hill(Carole), of Irvine, California. Mildred has several nieces and nephews, and among them are: Debra Jean Hill of Gulf Breeze, Florida; Ralph Arthur Hill of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and James Steven Hill, Karen Sue Hill, Susan Ann (Hill) Campbell and Barbara Lynn Hill, all of California. She also has several great-nieces and nephews.

He married Karen Sue Mishler in 2005.
Gary proudly served in the US Army during Vietnam.
Gary enjoyed CB radios with the handle “MoDrifter”.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Emberry; and son, Aaron Emberry.
Survivors also include mother, Leona Emberry; wife, Karen; children, Shona Kirkwood (Kraig), Laura Lake, David Emberry, Kristina Froberg (Cody), Breanna Froberg, Joshua Horner (Amanda), and Jason Horner (Teresa); nineteen grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; and brothers, Michael and Edward Emberry.

Ed West
1936-2017

William E. (Ed) West died January 3rd while vacationing in Texas.
Ed was born February 22, 1936 in Springfield, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith C. West, his son, Paul R. West, and his parents Paul and Rosamond West.
Ed graduated from Central High School and earned a BS in Aeronautical Engineering from The University of Kansas. After graduation, Ed worked in the infancy of the U.S. space program as an engineer working on Atlus rockets and Saturn I. Upon returning to St. Joseph he worked for St. Joseph Structural Steel, eventually becoming the CEO of the company.
Ed was a long-standing and prominent member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and a past Exalted Ruler of St. Joseph’s BPOE Lodge 40. He was a member of the North St. Joseph Fishing Club and truly loved the time he spent at the Lake of the Woods in NW Ontario. He also treasured the winters he spent with friends at Isla Blanca Park in South Padre Island, Texas.
Ed is survived by his daughters, Julia O’Dell (Steven) of Lansing, Kansas and Susan Noland (Doug) of Kansas City, Missouri. He is also survived by his sister, Susan Lyons of Omaha, Nebraska; two grandsons, Joseph Berrigan and Robert Noland of Kansas City, Missouri; five granddaughters, Sarah Haught (Mike) of St. Joseph, Amanda O’Dell (Nathaniel) of Chicago, Illinois, Katherine O’Dell of Overland Park, Kansas, Alessandra West of Chicago, Illinois, and Ellie West of Boulder, Colorado; two great-grandsons, Owen and Charlie Krumdick; several nephews; and his sweet cat Spot.

Rosemary married the love of her life, Ellis Thorton Cooper May 17, 1947, he precedes her in death.
She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a lifetime member of Wyatt Park Christian Church and also belonged to the Christian Women’s Fellowship Group #2.
Rosemary loved her children and her grandchildren. She was a kind, generous and loving woman who will be missed by many.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Carolyn Campbell.
Survivors include daughter, Cheryl Baldwin (Don), St Joseph; sons, Greg Cooper (Sharon), McKinney Texas, Jim Cooper (Denise), Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren, Ryan, Brady, Matthew, Kristy and Rocky; eight great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one step great-granddaughter.

Mr. Collins was a member of Green Valley Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleo H. and Delia E. (Birch) Collins; his granddaughter, Grace Edwards; and sisters, Judith Collins and Sherrill Kaye Collins.

Georgia F. Armstrong, 93, Kansas City, Missouri, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, died Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at a Kansas City health care facility.
Born December 7, 1923 in Worth County, Missouri, she had resided in St. Joseph for most of her life. She had been employed as a secretary and bookkeeper for the Chase & Poe Candy Company.
On February 27, 1943 she married Billy F. Armstrong. He preceded her in death on November 11, 1996.
Mrs. Armstrong was a member of Huffman Memorial United Methodist Church.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Armstrong; parents, Virden R. and Elizabeth R. (Findley) Stevens; her brothers, Dale, Delbert, and Clifford Stevens.
(Survivors:) her son, Ronald D. Armstrong and his wife, Nancy of Platte City, Missouri; two grandchildren, Christopher Armstrong and fiancé, Julie Duquesne of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Tyler Armstrong and his wife KateLynn of Kansas City, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Diana, Rose, and Mara; and sister, Clella Yates of Surprise, Arizona.

Mary was a hairdresser her entire life, her customers were considered her friends and they always looked forward to her homemade cookies and coffee at their appointments.
She enjoyed gardening and always had the prettiest flowers.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Wigfield; brothers, Charles, Wayne, Don, Bill, Loren, George, James and Bob Mead.

He was born February 16, 1968 in Trenton, MO, son of Mary Ellen and Robert Claypool. He graduated from Grandview High School. He was working at Cox Medical Center, after retiring from the North KC School District after 25 years of service. He was very social and enjoyed time with his friends drinking coffee in the morning, garage saling, riding motorcycles and fishing. He was a Christian. Jim was preceded in death by father, Robert Eugene Claypool, and step father Daniel Diem. Survivors include, mother, Mary Ellen Diem of Brookfield, MO, sons, Michael Claypool of Cosby, MO, Chris Claypool of Branson, MO, and J.C. Miller (Amanda) of Lathrop, MO, and daughter Michelle (Wesley) McCardie of Excelsior Springs, MO, foster parents, Rex & Judy Jones of Stewartsville, MO, brother by heart Richard (Kayci) Jones of Stewartsville, MO, 5 grandchildren, sister, Zealier Jeanie Claypool of Grant City, MO, step grandmother, Mildred Buntin of St. Joseph, MO.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm, on Friday, January 6, 2017 at Rupp Funeral Home, with David H. DeLores E. Fletcher
1945-2017

unnamedDeLores E. Fletcher, 71, of Hiawatha, died early Monday, January 2, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.
DeLores was born April 20, 1945, at St. Paul, Nebraska, one of eleven children of John and Rose Robak Koperski. She attended Kelso country school near her home at Farwell, Nebraska, where she grew up. DeLores later attended St. Anthony’s Catholic Grade School where she received her first communion and was confirmed. She graduated from Farwell High School in 1963 prior to graduating from the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, Minnesota. DeLores worked at the Hiawatha Community Hospital for 34 years as the Medical and X-Ray Technologist before retiring.
She was a devoted, long time member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Hiawatha, where she was active in the Altar Society. Through the Altar Society, DeLores volunteered for many years taking communion to the shut-ins. DeLores loved to bake, and for many years, with the help of her husband, they made rolls for Coffee and Rolls Sunday at Church. She enjoyed making pies and cakes for her friends. Her main interest was her grandchildren, always attending as many of their activities as possible. She enjoyed helping her grandson with his 4-H projects; also loved gardening and growing lilies. DeLores had been a very active member for many years of the Falls City, Nebraska Saddle Club.
DeLores married Daniel Grimes April 20, 1968. He died in 1989. On July 27, 1996, she married Maurice G. Fletcher at St. Ann Catholic Church in Hiawatha. He survives of the home.
Survivors include a daughter Tamala (Todd) Simmons of St. Joseph, Missouri; a son Todd (JoLynn) Grimes of Sabetha, KS; grandchildren: Trevor Simmons, Cole and Mya Grimes, Step-daughter Stacey (Richard) Beyer of Liberty, Missouri; step-grandchildren: Brandon, Katy and David Beyer. Also surviving are sisters Agnes (Ron) Lewandowski of Grand Island, Nebraska, JoAnn (Justin) Kuszak of Ashton, Nebraska, Marie (Daryl) Platek, Sally (Tom) Mudloff, all of St. Paul, Nebraska; brothers: Pete Koperski (friend Dolores Mc Donnell) of Tracey, Missouri, Henry (Rose) Koperski of St. Paul, Nebraska, John (Jan) Koperski of Ogallala, Nebraska, Ted (Margaret) Koperski of Lincoln, Nebraska, Ben (Mary) Koperski of Cody, Wyoming, with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a step-son Maurice Fletcher, Jr.; a step-grandson Wade Fletcher; a sister Frances Kush; nephews Jerrid Mudloff and Eric Koperski; 5 half brothers, and a half sister.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann Catholic Church in Hiawatha, at 12 Noon Thursday, January 5, with Father Matt Koperski and Father Dan Gardner as con celebrants. Interment will follow at the Hiawatha Cemetery.
Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha after 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Parish Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Wednesday, followed by the family receiving friends.

Wathena, Kansas – Faye E. Scott, 45, passed away Monday, January 2, 2017 at her home in Wathena, Kansas.
Faye was born on August 28, 1971 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Michael & Linda Sue (Ducas) Haynes.
She worked for Herzog as an accountant & manager.
Faye married Stuart Scott. He survives of the home.
