Judith Mary “Judy” Snyder
1940-2016

4054560_wlppJudith Mary “Judy” Snyder, 76, of Mayetta, surrounded by her family, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2016, at Stormont-Vail Hospital where she had been a patient since Monday.
Judy was born at Falls City, Nebraska, April 12, 1940, the daughter of Charles and Lovelle Sconce Stowell. She grew up at Falls City where she attended school until she was a freshman in high school, when the family moved to Wetmore where she graduated high school with the class of 1958.
She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church of Mayetta; the American Quarter Horse Assn.; and National Barrel Racing Assn. Judy qualified 11 years straight to participate in the World Barrel Racing Assn. Her love of horses ran deep—they were cared for and fed before her husband!
She married Farrell Snyder, August 9, 1958, at Wetmore. They lived at Topeka, Desoto, and St. Louis where they spent their working life. At Desoto, she drove a school bus for 10 years. They retired back to northeast Kansas, making Hiawatha their home before moving to Mayetta in 2010. He survives.
Also surviving are a son Kent Snyder of Holton; two daughters: Kerry (Parrish) Meredith of Overland Park, KS, Kellie (Mike) Brockhoff of Fairview; two sisters: Patricia Stein of Mesa, AZ, Phyllis Stowell SCL of Leavenworth; and five grandchildren.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church at Mayetta, at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2017, with Father Bill McEvoy as the celebrant. Private family inurnment will be at the Morrill Cemetery at a later date.
The Parish Rosary will be recited at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha at 6 p.m. Thursday, January 5, led by Sister Josephine. Family to visit with friends immediately following the rosary.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Jackson County Humane Society, sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S 7th St., Hiawatha 66434.

He was born May 30, 1956 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Allen held multiple jobs with the Federal Government as an electrician.
He enjoyed collecting Lionel trains and antiques and loved to hunt and fish. Mr. Evans was a member of Beeville Masonic Lodge No. 261, A.F. & A.M., 3rd Degree Master Mason and 32nd Degree York Rite Mason, Beeville Chapter #191.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Kathryn (Brown) Evans; and sister, Jennifer Evans.
Survivors include son, Scott Evans (Jennifer) of Bismarck, North Dakota; grandchildren, Tucker and Bailee Evans; sister, Cheryl Fuston and Kathy Jo Evans-Krull; brothers, Rusty, Tony, and Randy Evans; numerous nieces and nephews; and fiancée, Cindy Cumley.

Murle was the youngest of eight children born in Meckling, S.D., served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and also volunteered with The American Red Cross.

Klaris “Kay” O’Dell

She was born August 12, 1930 in Licso, Nebraska.
Kay married Jay O’Dell in June, 1949, and he preceded her in death in August 1999.
She graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a Masters degree. She was a teacher and counselor for Osborn and Stewartsville School districts.
Kay was a member of Brookdale Presbyterian Church and the Sweet Adeline’s. Kay was the first honored queen of the Jobs Daughter of the newly established Bethel #46; Oshkosh, Nebraska in 1948. The family would like to thank Barbara K. O’Dell, nurse practitioner for being mom’s guardian angel.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ruth (Sothman) Woolery; one brother; and three sisters.
Survivors include children, Barbara Ann Wohlfarth (William) of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Brad O’Dell (Jacque) of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Kent “Spanky” O’Dell (Jenny) of St. Joseph, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Kate, Stephanie, Brady, Colin, Brett, Morgan, and Cooper; and four great-grandchildren.

Kenneth G. Koehler

Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. in the chapel of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Jeremy Heppler, OSB officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A parish rosary will be recited Monday Jan. 2nd, at 6:00 PM at the funeral home with visitation to follow until 7:30. Memorial contributions are suggested to Alzheimer’s Foundation and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Kenny was born on February 3, 1931 in Atchison, Kansas the son of Anton R. and Grace (Jack) Koehler. He attended Central Grade School and Atchison High School.
He and the former Beatrice M. Gonzales were united in marriage on October 10, 1959 at St. Joseph’s Church in Atchison. Mrs. Koehler preceded in death on November 20, 2005.
Kenny was a steelworker at Rockwell International for forty-two years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Benedict Parish and the Army National Guard. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and playing chess.
Survivors include two sons, Jacob (Teresa) Koehler, Danny (Martha) Koehler, both of Atchison, KS, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death two brothers, Elmo Francis Koehler, Jacob Raymond Koehler, and two sisters, Louise Smith and Jeanne Hamblin.

Jimmie Jennings
1932-2016

cropped-5Jimmie E. Jennings, 84, of St. Joseph, left this world at 4:00 a.m. on December 28, 2016 to go home to his heavenly father.
Jim was a brick mason, and built many fireplaces and performed other brick and block work in the area.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Earnest and Dorothy Jennings and infant brother, Gilbert.
He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Betty (Sprague) Jennings and their two sons, Robert (Trina) and David (Carla Hensley) Jennings; three grandchildren, Justin, Jesse, and Jennifer; brother, Norman Jennings; two great-grandchildren, Talon and Katelyn and four step great-grandchildren.
Jim will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Graveside Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Oak Grove Cemetery, Union Star, MO. Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Saturday at Clark-Sampson Funeral Home.

Doris L. Bunse

Doris L. Bunse, 88, of Cosby, Missouri passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at LaVerna Village in Savannah, Missouri surrounded by her loving family.
Doris was born October 24, 1928 near Atchison, Kansas to Carl and Mabel Bodenhausen.
She married Melvin Bunse on April 4, 1950. Together they operated a dairy farm near Cosby, Missouri until turning it over to their son in 1984. Melvin preceded her in death in 2008.
Mrs. Bunse was an active member of the Cosby Zion United Methodist Church, holding offices of church treasurer, Sunday School teacher, various offices in the women’s group and was a church pianist and organist for many years.
Doris spent the last year of her life at LaVerna Village nursing home in Savannah, Missouri.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Rosemary and two brothers, Wayne and David Bodenhausen. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Hausman (Mike); son, Larry Bunse (Kathy); four grandchildren, Brian Hausman, Amy Spaeth (Conrad), Jesse Bunse (Sarah) and Emily Bunse; five great grandchildren; brother, Dennis Bodenhausen (Judy); three sister-in-laws; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Janet was born on March 17, 1950 in Atchison, Kansas the daughter of Edward M. and Jeanne (Smith) Kelly. She attended St. Benedict Elementary School, Mount St. Scholastica Academy and graduated from Atchison High School. She attended Benedictine College.
She and Roger L. Gibson were united in marriage on May 31, 1969 at St. Benedict’s Church in Atchison, Kansas. Mr. Gibson preceded her in death on May 2, 2009.
Janet briefly worked at Rockwell International and was a homemaker. She later took a position as the Executive Director of the Atchison Red Cross where she served for 24 years before her retirement in 2005.
She was a member of St. Benedict Parish. She enjoyed reading, putting together puzzles, watching movies, crocheting, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include three daughters, Amy M. (Timothy) Herman, Scott City, KS, Megan E. (Todd) Erpelding, Atchison, KS, Jill A. (Ryan) Thorne, Effingham, KS, two sons, Lawrence Wayne (Shannon) Gibson, Desoto, KS, Edward M. Richard “Dick” W. Reynolds

Dick was born September 30, 1954 in Atchison, Kansas the son of James Richard and Virginia Agee Reynolds. He attended Atchison Public Elementary Schools and Atchison High School.
He and Cindy K. Kopf were united in marriage on April 19, 2002 in Atchison, Kansas.
Dick was employed as a heavy equipment operator for over forty years with the Bromley Quarry Company in Atchison until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy K. Reynolds of the couple’s home in Atchison, KS; a son, Jimmy Reynolds, Farmington, KS; four step-sons, Carl Chandler, Lincoln, NE; Tommy Hall, Lincoln, NE; Jason Williams, Lincoln, NE; Gary Williams, II, Atchison, KS; a step-daughter, Katrina Reynolds, Leavenworth, KS; a sister, Judy Gillmore, Atchison, KS; fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.

She was born July 1, 1947 in Bethany, Missouri daughter of Maxine & Forest Miles. She married Robert “Bob” Hager on August 1, 1975, and he survives of the home. She graduated from Bethany High School, and worked at Mosaic as an Insurance Associate. She loved taking care of her grandchildren and flower gardening. She was preceded in death by her father, Forest Miles. She is survived by husband, Robert “Bob” Hager of the home, mother, Maxine Miles of Gillman City, MO, two sons, Monty (Kari) Cook of DeKalb, MO and Doug (Niki) Cook of St. Joseph, MO, daughter, Gina (Kenny) Guillotte of Kansas City, MO, 6 grandchildren, Andrea, Kaden, Matthew, Lainie, Claira, and Violet, 1 great grandchild, Maverick, two brothers, Chuck (Doris) Miles of Bethany, MO and Butch (Sharon) Miles of Bethany, MO, sister, Louise Cox of Orem, UT. Mildred Maxine Sands, 94, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Friday, December 23, 2016 in a Saint Joseph health care center. She was born April 3, 1922 in Jackson County, Missouri. She worked at Quaker Oats. She collected Maxine Dolls, and always had a smile on her face. She was a member of the Bell Ringers for Salvation Army, and she attended the Home League meetings and sold the “War Cry.” She was a member of the Faith Valley Church of God. Maxine was preceded in death by her husbands, Earl Sands, Fred Reinschmidt, and Henry Gremar. She is survived by daughters, Emma (Terry) Durfee, Freda Reinschmidt, and Betty (Wesley) Reed, 6 grandchildren, Rose, Rachel, Lori, Debb Lovelady, Scott (Ashley) Durfee, and Todd (Jessica) Durfee. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, December 30, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Rupp Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM on Friday at the Rupp Funeral Home. She will be cremated under the direction of the Rupp Funeral Home.

She was an avid bowler, and loved dogs and animals, and she was a member of Freeman Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. Frankie was preceded in death by husbands, Allen McDowell, and Leonard Ray Kirschner, her parents, Garland & Mabel Mackley, and brother, James (Jimmy) Mackley. Survivors include, sons, Scott (Barbara) McDowell of Saint Joseph, MO, and Roger (Barb) McDowell of Northglenn, CO, 4 grandchildren, Heather, Josh, Cory, and Julia, and 11, great grandchildren.

Larry Anthony

anthony-larry-obitphotoLarry Anthony, 70, King City, Missouri passed away Saturday, December 17, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born October 15, 1946 to the late Harry E. Jr and late Nellie (Carter) Anthony.
Larry graduated from Central High School in 1964. After graduation he proudly served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. After serving his country he returned home and was hired with the St. Joseph Fire Department where he worked for twenty years and retired as Captain. During his time on the fire department Larry achieved his license as a paramedic and worked for Heartland Hospital East Ambulance service. He became the first Fire Medic in St. Joseph, Missouri. Larry was also a State of Missouri National EMS licensing examiner. After retirement from the fire department, Larry worked as District Administrator for the Gentry County Ambulance Department, Lipra Home Health, Davita Dialysis and was the King City building inspector. Larry was a member of the King City Legion and Lion’s Club. In 2009, Larry was awarded for outstanding citizenship and Good Samaritan Activity for saving a life. He was a member of the National Rifleman Association and for forty years had his Federal Firearms license. He owned Shooter’s Gunsmith Service which he enjoyed. Larry enjoyed his gunsmith services, hunting, woodworking, motorcycle riding, and westerns, but his first and top priority was his love for his family.
Larry is survived by his wife Vicki; children, Larry Anthony Jr, Christy Anthony, Robin Ridenour (Dallas), Tenille Forbes (Daryl), Dr. Devin Kennedy (Emily); eleven grandchildren; and brother, Michael Anthony.

She was born October 25, 1921 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
She married James Doyle Housh on December 22, 1946.
Katie was a graduate of Benton High School and worked at the Municipal court as a clerk for 18 years.
She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Altar Society. During WWII, she was part of a ladies touring softball team that traveled throughout the Midwest. She was an avid walker and liked to spend time at home.

Paul proudly served in the United States Marines and later the Air National Guard at Rosecrans. He worked for Missouri Western State University in the maintenance department.
He loved to camp, fish, and was great with his hands. He enjoyed spending time with and cooking elaborate meals for his loved ones. He loved all kinds of animals and enjoyed family gatherings.
Paul was preceded in death by his infant son, Paul Joseph; and sister, Mary Beth Schenecker.

She was born August 31, 1915 in Platte County, MO to George and Laura Redmon Linville, later they moved to a farm near DeKalb, MO., where Thelma grew up with her brother, Bill. She rode her horse 3 miles to attend the DeKalb High School where she graduated as salutatorian of the 1932 class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Mears, her parents, two daughters, Donna Mears Callaway and Nancy Mears Jobes, her brother and sister-in-law, Maxine and Bill Linville, her step mother, Beva Ruble Linville and two infant grandsons, Richard Gene Mears and Tye Lane Mears. In 1933 she married Dick Mears of Faucett, MO. They lived near DeKalb, MO until 1948 then moved to her present day farm near Faucett, MO where Thelma lived until recently. They were the proud parents of four children, Donna June Mears Callaway, Eleanor Jean Mears Kalin, Kenneth Richard “Pete” Mears, and Nancy Ellen Mears Jobes. A widow for 43 years, Thelma lived on her farm raising cattle, managing crops, tending her garden and nurturing her family by hosting fried chicken dinners until her 90’s. Her family was her passion in life. She was (long ago) a “Watkins Lady” – a quilter, reader, and family historian. Her grandchildren loved spending time with her, helping fix fence, run cows, pet baby chicks, even sleigh riding. They all loved Gma. She is survived by son, Pete (Arla) Mears of St. Joseph, MO, daughter, Eleanor (Tom) Kalin, 10 grandchildren; Debbie Callaway Sellers (Jeff), Harold Callaway (Debbie), David Callaway (Patti), Carol Kalin (George Bevan), Cindi Johnson (fiancee Fredrik), Jeff Kalin, Julie Jobes Colboch (Dirk), Adam Jobes (Jessica), Andy Jobes (Allison), Jennafer Mears Cross (Aaron), sons-in-law Cecil Callaway and Sonny Jobes., 19 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. She was an inspiration and a fine example to all of us. You truly were a precious woman, (Proverbs 31:10).

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Shirley McKnight, and Sharon “Susie” Thompson. Dorothy was born to Walter and Frances Richardson on December 27, 1935 in St. Joseph, where she lived most of her life.
In 1957, she married William Schubert, the father of her four children. He preceded her in death in 1970. She later married Joe Ray Ward, who preceded her in death in 2007.
Dorothy spent most of her life working in the home. She loved her family and the time she spent with them.
Preceding Dorothy in death are her parents; two husbands, William and Joe; two children, William Jr. and Cindy Strahm; seven siblings, Eugene, Walter Jr., Ronnie, Donald, Martha, Mary, and Judy and one great-grandson, Keaton Ruark.
Survivors include, daughters, Helen (Roger) Hughey and Edith (Mike) Ruark, of St. Joseph; siblings, Clyde, Steven, Helen, JoAnn, Connie, Tammy; six grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ms. Ward has been cremated under the care of Clark-Sampson Funeral Home. A private family Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Marlene “Kay” Ratcliff

4040543_wlppWichita – Marlene Kay Carl Ratcliff, 82 of Wichita, passed away from her long battle with Alzheimer’s/Dementia on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at her home surrounded by her four daughters.
She was born September 18, 1934, the first of three children to Nate and Floy Witham Carl in Topeka, Kansas and grew up on the family farm outside of Onaga. Marlene “Kay” graduated from Onaga High School in 1952.
After graduation she married Duane Ratcliff on May 11, 1952. Soon after they were married the United States Airforce transferred Duane and Kay to Barksdale AFB in Shreveport, LA, where they started their lives together. Duane’s work moved them to Wichita in 1955 where they lived out their married lives together. Marlene Kay was an awesome homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Duane Ratcliff, who died October 10, 2015.
Survivors include daughters, Debbi Skiles (Rex), Onaga, Becky Shatley (Michael), Sherry Buck (Frank), and Lisa Sanders (Troy), all of Wichita. She is also survived by one sister Marcia DuLac of Derby, Kansas, one brother Charlie Carl, Ohio, eight grandchildren, Shane Bliss (Kelly), Niki Shatley Howard (Jarod), Cheryl Shatley Doyle (Michael), Doug Brittain (Jess), Jordan Sanders, Elyse Sanders, Kara Buck, and Kailey Buck; nine great-grandchildren, Austin Bliss, Kyle Bliss, Michael Bliss, Ashley Bliss, Zack Bliss, Sevyn Howard, Beck Howard, Blane Doyle, and Lilly Doyle, and one great-great-grandson, Dominic Fry-Bliss.

She was born July 3, 1924 in Renner, SD, the cherished daughter of Marie and Cliff Fromholz.
She retired as Executive Accountant with Woodbury’s as well as at Farmland Chemical Plant and simultaneously, without ever retiring, was a full-fledged homemaker. She loved nurturing other people. Everyone that knew her will always remember her smiling face and enthusiastic personality. She was a committed member of Grace Baptist Church of St Joseph, MO.
Audrey was a 65 plus member of Areme Chapter #461, Order of Eastern Star. She had served three times as Worthy Matron, and many others offices as well. She was District Deputy Grand Matron in 1969, Grand Representative of Albert in Missouri in 1989-90. She also has served as President of the local and State Grand Representative Clubs. Additionally she served on the Masonic Advisory Board of the Grand Lodge of Missouri for 9 years. She also was proud of her membership in Toastmasters.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents and brother, DeWayne Fromholz. Survivors include three daughters, Saundra Barquist (Bob), Raytown, Missouri, Vicki Smith (Gregg), Kansas City, Missouri, and Dr. Maritta Sumner, Arlington, TX; three grandsons, Tristan Smith, Missouri City, TX; Quentin Smith(Amy), Carrolton, TX; McKennon Smith, Kansas City, Mo.; five great-grandchildren, Theo, Max, Spencer, Trey and Chase Smith. Adelia enjoyed family time dinners. She was a proud mother and grandmother that loved decorating, traveling, dancing and especially loved bargin shopping. Adelia was a Christian and a strong believer in Christ. Our beautiful mother was loved by so many and is gone too soon, we will miss her so much.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Roy Gullick and Lloyd Leslie.

He was born May 26, 1941 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Mary “Elizabeth” and Jesse Richardson. He attended Benton High School and married Carolyn Chapman on November 24, 1965 in St. Joseph. He served in the Navy, as a Geodetic Surveyor on the USS Maury. He retired from Snorkel after 35 years of service as a mechanic in the Fire Service Division. He was very laid back and a patient and loving father and grandfather, who enjoyed being with old friends and playing pool. He had a nickname for everybody. Rogers attended Wesley United Methodist Church, and was a former member of King Hill Baptist he was also a member of the VFW post 6760. Rogers was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Sonja Jo Fuller. Survivors include, wife, Carolyn Richardson of the home, son, David (Carrie) Richardson of St. Joseph, MO, daughter, Sarah (Eric) Ripoll, of Savage, MN., 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and a niece, Shana Willis.

He was born November 12, 1943, in Alton, Illinois, to Warner and Charlene Pape. The family moved to rural Brown County, Kansas, where the family was actively involved in farming.
After graduating from Robinson High School, Ron attended Kansas State University, graduating with a degree in Accounting and Business Administration. He married Julia Stonebarger Pape in 1964 and the couple lived in several states as Ron transferred positions in corporate management.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Julia. Also surviving are his parents, Warner and Charlene Pape of Hiawatha, Kansas. His children, Julie Christine Lorenz and husband David, Warner Travis Pape and wife Rachel; grandchildren, Chase and Cale Lorenz and Lily and Julianne Pape. Ron loved life. His favorite pastimes and interests included sports whether watching, playing or coaching. He especially enjoyed coaching his children’s sport teams throughout the years. He always looked forward to the card games when the family gathered. He also enjoyed reading and traveling.
In accordance with Ron’s wishes, he has been cremated. On Thursday, December 22, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. the family and friends will gather for a Celebration of Life service at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Due to the inclement weather, graveside service will follow at the Chapel Oaks chapel. Family inurnment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Hiawatha, Kansas.

Graveside services will be Saturday, December 17, 2016, at 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Vernon Cemetery with Rev. Jeremy Heppler, OSB officiating. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, December 17th from 12:30 – 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Croix Hospice or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Clifford was born January 8, 1924 in Danbury, Nebraska, the son of Thomas and Lucy Greenway Reeves. He attended Franklin Elementary School in Atchison, Kansas and graduated from Atchison High School.
He and Elizabeth M. “Betty” Giles were united in marriage on November 5, 1943 at Sacred Heart Church in Atchison, Kansas. Mrs. Reeves preceded him in death on May 24, 2002.
Clifford served as a letter carrier for the Atchison Post Office for fifteen years until his retirement.
He served with the United States Army from June 21, 1943 until his honorable discharge on December 23, 1945. Clifford then served with the Kansas National Guard from 1948 until 1968.
Clifford was a member of St. Benedict Parish, participating at Sacred Heart Church. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and reading in his spare time.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas A. Reeves, Atchison, KS; Ronald E. (Sherry) Reeves, Valley Falls, KS; Richard Reeves, Atchison, KS; a daughter, Katherine L. (Robert) Grunert, Atchison, KS; four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one great great grandson.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Reeves and a sister, Elizabeth Hoyel.

Paul Louis Blakley

Paul was a member of Hope Fellowship Church and a lifelong resident of St. Joseph. He graduated from Central High School, Class of 1959.
He enjoyed sports, track and field and baseball. Paul loved taking walks, going fishing and hunting. Paul enjoyed watching TV, especially when the Royals were playing, whether they would win or lose. He also played professional baseball for the Indianapolis Clowns. Paul helped with the family business, Blakley Trash Service.
He was also preceded in death by sister, Lula M. Blakley.

He was a New York Mets fanatic and huge supporter of both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Scott had a deep faith in his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a loving husband and father, always putting others before himself.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Dale was born on November 1, 1937 in Highland, Kansas to Harold and Margaret (Hayes) Harness. He was a lifelong resident of Troy where he farmed and was a custom harvester.
Dale was a past member of the Troy Lions Club.
He married Betty Young on November 26, 1976 in Troy. She survives of the home. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Beverly Cluck, niece, Janet Sue Libel and a grandson, Andrew Clary.

unnamedEsther L. Middendorf, 93, of Hiawatha, went to be with her Lord Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at Hiawatha Community Hospital.
She was born on a farm south of Troy, December 6, 1923, the eighth of nine children born to Charles and Martha Kiehnhoff Ruhnke and was a northeast Kansas resident her entire life. Esther attended rural schools K-8 near Troy. She worked as a nanny, hospital switch board operator and caregiver for an elderly lady before she married at age 24. Esther worked for 33 years as a secretary for Hiawatha Elementary School before retiring.
Esther was a longtime dedicated member of Zion Lutheran Church of Hiawatha and had held many offices in the LWML (Lutheran Women Missionary League). She was active in the Hiawatha Community as a board member of Latchkey; Home Health Agency; Brown County Election Board; was a Grey Lady Volunteer for many, many years, at Hiawatha Community Hospital; and quilted with the ladies at the Brown County Ag Museum. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, sewing, reading, cooking, Scrabble, volunteering, and family activities.
She was married to Clarence Middendorf, June 6, 1948 at Zion Lutheran Church. They have made Hiawatha their home all of their married life. He survives.
Also surviving are two daughters: Karen McNamee (Jim Keyser) of Portland, OR, Judy Middendorf of Ft. Collins, CO; a son David Middendorf (Lela) of Hiawatha; a sister Helen Schmidt of Stanton, NE; grand-daughters: Jessica Young (Jeff), Katie Knoll (Chris); step-grandchildren: Brandon Smith (Laura), Jenna Smith; great-grandchildren: Haley Young, Mitchell Smith; Ava Knoll, Meredith Smith, and Liam Knoll.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law Nancy Middendorf; brothers: Harold, Herbert, Raymond, Charles Ruhnke; sisters: Edna Benitz, Dorothy Bode, and Marguerite Damm.
A Celebration of Esther’s life is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 13, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha, with Pastor Mike Dunaway officiating. Cremation will follow service with private inurnment at a later date at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Monday, where the family will meet from 6 until 8 that evening, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home.

Ruth Ann married H.C. Schwader November 22, 1951. She and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm together and traveled for twenty years.
She was a member of Harmony Cumberland Presbyterian Church and very active in the community. Ruth also belonged to CPW- Missionary Group, PTA, and was a 4-H leader.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Clara Acord; husband, H.C. Schwader; brother, Russell Acord; and sister, Delores Reeder.

Harold J. “Jerry” Dallas

Harold J. “Jerry” Dallas, 78, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Onaga Health and Rehab.
He was born June 10, 1938 in Lyon County near Harveyville, the son of Harold G. and Lois Little Dallas. Harold was raised from a young age by his mother and beloved step-father, Jesse Miller. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1957.
Jerry served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1961, earning the rank of Machinist’s Mate, 2nd Class.
He worked for Pacific Gas & Electric in northern California before moving back to Kansas to be near family. He then worked for Goodyear Tire, and later General Foods dog food plant, which was later Del Monte, then Heinz. He worked there thirty plus years before retiring due to his health in 2006.
Jerry married Patsy Hunt on September 4, 1965 in Reno, Nevada. She survives, of the home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Paul Miller, two brothers-in-law, David Brooks and Ben Montague, and a daughter-in-law, Angelina Rose Dallas.
Other survivors include three sons, Frank Dallas and wife Richie Abrau Dallas, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Brian Dallas, Kansas City, MO, and Jeremy Dallas and wife Michelle, Soldier; two brothers, Robert Dallas and wife Lila, St. Joseph, MO and Jesse Miller and wife Margaret, Topeka; two sisters, Betty Jo Montague, Hoyt and Karen Brooks, St. Charles, MO; four grandchilden, Jeremy Michael Dallas, Kendra Mary- Kathryn Dallas, Logan Robert-Thomas Dallas and Rose Shirley Abrau, and many nieces and nephews.

Frances married Virgil Mitchell on April 15, 1937 in Van Nuyes, California. He preceded her in death on January 28, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Eulalia Poirier & Helen Forrest, brothers, Bob Gabriel & Buddy Gabriel.

She was a member of and Word of Life Church. She married Jamie Ferguson on June 17, 2016 at their home. Michelle was preceded in death by her father Gerald Ashford. Survivors include, husband, Jamie Ferguson of the home, mother & step father, Karen (Ed) Cockriel, daughter, Melissa Keith & (James McDaniel, Jr.) of St. Joseph, son, Justin Keith of St. Joseph, step daughter, Nicolette Ferguson of the home, grandchildren, Jozlynn and Jaxon McDaniel, four brothers, Michael, Matthew, Shawn, and Jon Ashford, all of St. Joseph, she also had many wonderful and devoted friends as well as nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

A Parish rosary will be recited on Thursday, December 8, at 6:00 P.M. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation with the family to follow until 7:30 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict Parish or St. Benedict’s Abbey and may be left in care of the funeral home.
George was born on January 26, 1930 in Atchison, Kansas the son of Leopold and Freida (Stolp) Blodig. He attended Shannon Hill Grade School and graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1947. He graduated from Emporia State University in 1957 and completed his Master’s Degree in the summer of 1959. He also attended the National Railroad School of Telegraphy and Teletype.
He and Dorlene (George) Blodig were united in marriage on August 26, 1958 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Garden City, Kansas.
George taught mathematics at Garden City Junior College from January 1957 until May of 1958. He then moved to Atchison, Kansas and began teaching at St. Benedict’s College, now Benedictine College, in the mathematics department from August 1958 until his retirement in May of 1997. He also taught at Highland Community College, night classes at the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and night classes at the Federal Prison.
George served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army with the basic heavy weapons in the 101st Airborne Division overseas from May 11, 1951 until his honorable discharge on February 11, 1954.
He was a member of the St. Benedict Parish in Atchison, participating at St. Benedict’s Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree Sacred Heart Council #723. He was also a member of the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #647, V.F.W. Post #1147, Fleming-Jackson-Seever American Legion Post #6, College Organizations, Mathematical Association of America, Kappa Mu Epsilon and Phi Delta Kappa. George was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; his great grandchildren called him “Grumps”.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dorlene Blodig, Atchison, KS, one son, Jeffrey (Allison) Blodig, Ozawkie, KS, three daughters, Debbie (Billy) Beagle, Atchison, KS, Deidre Keith, Kansas City, MO, Denise Blodig (Gene Gregory), Franktown, CO, twelve grandchildren, Jeremy Beagle, Lance Beagle, Ashley (Keith) Griffin, Samantha Keith, Sidney Keith, Justin Gregory, Reed Gregory, Lane Gregory, Nicci Gregory, Pierce Gregory, Chris Gregory, Alex Crouch, and six great grandchildren.

Albert Stanley Hay

Albert Stanley Hay, 80, of Wamego, formerly of Onaga, died Sunday, December 4, 2016 at the Westy Community Care Home in Westmoreland.
He was born May 18, 1936 at Soldier, the son of Albert S. Hay, Jr. and Flora Downey Hay. He graduated from Onaga High School in 1954 and had served in the Army National Guard.
Stan was a farmer and a stockman. He was a life member of American Legion Post No. 163 and a long time member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, both in Marysville, a member of the Kansas Chapter of Singles in Agriculture and International Harvester Collectors, Kansas Chapter No. 3.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Angela Hay, who was stillborn, and a son, Stanley Eugene Hay.
Survivors include two daughters, Jody Marie Lindsey, Manhattan and Jolea Matzke, Wamego; a brother, James Arthur Hay and wife Rita, Herrington; a sister, Helen Sharon Worthington and husband Rudy, Fair Oaks, CA; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She married Raymond Dale Cornelius on December 15, 1945. He preceded her in death on December 18, 2010 just after their 65th wedding anniversary.
She worked in sales at Hirsch’s Department Store for ten years.
Mrs. Cornelius was a member of Wyatt Park Christian Church, Christian Women’s Fellowship and Oakland Club.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Ada (Zabel) Francis; brother, Herman Francis; sisters, Genevieve Francis and Jean Thompson; and brother-in-law, Dale Thompson.

She was born June 25, 1937 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of the late Gwyneth and Lloyd Knight. She graduated from Benton and St. Joseph Junior College, and married Don Jessee March 24, 1956 at the King Hill Baptist Church. She was a Homemaker who enjoyed crocheting,and her two cats, Patches & Sprite, she was a member of King Hill Christian Church. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include, husband Don Jessee of the home, daughter, Michelle (Michael) McGlothlin of St. Joseph, MO, two grand daughters, Kelli McGlothlin, and Nicole (Richard) Gribble, two great grandchildren, Liam and Levi Gribble, and sister-in-law, Janice Allen of St. Joseph, MO.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Rupp Funeral Home, with Pastor Roger Wilcoxen officiating, The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery.

He was born July 21, 1940 to Bonnie and Fannie (Wilson) Butcher, they precede him in death.
Darrel was a sheet metal worker for Seaman-Schuske Metal Works for over thirty- five years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Green Valley Baptist Church and loved living on the farm and raising cattle. Darrel bought several rental properties in which he and his son “Butch” would remodel together. He also constructed many farm buildings. Darrel loved to have fun, joke around, and spend time with his grandson Landon.
Darrel was also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Marsha (Goodwin) Butcher; brothers, Elwyn “Junior” Butcher, William “Bill” Butcher, Leroy Butcher and Forrest Butcher; sister, Muriel Marie “Sis” Roberts.
Survivors include son, Darrel “Butch” Butcher, Jr.(Jennifer); grandson, Landon C. Butcher; daughter, Tracy Stroud (Jim); all of Savannah, Missouri; brothers, Eddie Butcher, Bob Butcher; sister Donna Schneider.

Pat was born January 17, 1938 to Otto and Roberta (Bush) Poland, they precede her in death.
She graduated from Savannah High School, Class of 1957 and proudly served in the US Army as a “Sharp Shooting” bookkeeper.
Pat fulfilled her childhood dreams of being a mother and nurse. She worked at Shady Lawn and LaVerna Village as an LPN before retiring in 2003. She is dearly loved and deeply missed by her family and friends.
Pat was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Sharp.
Survivors include children, Alicia Primm (Bob), George Evans, Jon Evans (Stella), Patti O’Toole, Flo Copeland (Steve) ; 12 grandchildren, Jaime, Lisa, Christina, Timothy, Jeremiah, Jacob, Joshua, Sarah, Patty, Philip, Jessica and Cody; 39 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; brothers, Jimmy, Perry, Ronnie, Davey and Johnie Poland; sisters, Veda Love and Rosie Rice; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Donald L. Neylon
1928-2016

neylon-donald-obitphotoDonald L. Neylon, 88, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at a St. Joseph Healthcare Center.
He was born the only child of Leo and Helen (Ryan) Neylon February 24, 1928 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Don centered his life around faith, family and friends.
Don married Betty King September 4, 1953, she preceded him in death in 2012 after 59 years of marriage. He was a cradle-to-grave parishioner at St. Mary’s Parish. Don was active in his parish serving on the parish council and was an usher until his health declined. He left high school early to serve in the Navy two years during World War II. He graduated from Christian Brothers High School in 1946.
Don worked for the St. Joseph Fire Department, and then for 27 years at Dugdale Meat Packing Plant. He also worked for the St. Joseph School District. In his retirement he worked part-time for the Northtown Community Recreation Center.
He also coached hundreds of young people in a variety of sports, including a girls softball State Championship and a state runner-up finish. He was active in the Democratic Party, union leadership, LeBlond Booster Club and also fought to introduce girls athletics at Bishop LeBlond.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, and son-in-law Ted Soule.
Survivors include sons, Mike Neylon (Bev), Patrick Neylon (Karen); daughters, Kelly Soule, Kerry Shepherd (Brian); grandchildren, Ryan and Sarabeth Soule, Casey and Leo Shepherd.
Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 A.M. Friday, St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment Mount Olivet Mausoleum. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Ronald played fast pitch softball. He loved his family and friends and knew no stranger. Ronald was an avid KC Chiefs fan.

He was born June 9, 1950 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Anna Bell and Merle Keith. Lonnie moved to Springfield to be close to his family. He was a very special brother who had a very special place in his family’s hearts. He was preceded in death by father, Merle E Keith. Survivors include, mother, Anna Bell Keith of Nixa, MO, two sisters, Sandra (Steven) Ciulla of Marshfield, MO and Karen Guyer of Nixa, MO, brother, Gary (Carla) Keith of St. Joseph, MO. A special thanks to the caregivers over the years in St. Joseph and Springfield who took special care of Lonnie.

Shirley Yurkovich

cropped-3Shirley Jean Yurkovich, 66, of St. Joseph, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016 surrounded by her family at home.
Shirley was born March 3, 1950 in Hamburg, Iowa to John and Mary Riley. She later moved to St. Joseph where she lived most of her life. On October 14, 1967, Shirley married Frank Yurkovich at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in St. Joseph. Shirley worked for Kovac’s Grocery Store, retiring in 2015. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church where she was a former member of the Entre Nous Society.
Preceding Shirley in death are her parents and a brother, Jerry Riley.
Survivors include her husband Frank Yurkovich, of the home; three children, Kenny (Dawn) Yurkovich, of Kansas City, MO, Rodney (Julie) Yurkovich, of Savannah, MO, and Melissa (Preston) Chaney, of St. Joseph; sister, Jane (Dave) Schober, of St. Joseph; nine grandchildren, Kenisha, Mitchell, Ryan, Taylor, Hollie, Makenzie, Mackensey, Steven and Kaylynn and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be 12:00 noon Wednesday, at Clark-Sampson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, at Clark-Sampson Funeral Home, where Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Father Evan Harkins, Celebrant. Mrs. Yurkovich will be cremated following services.

Donna J. Simpson, 84, Troy, Kansas passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Mosaic Life Care, St. Joseph, Missouri.
She was born April 19, 1932 in White Cloud, Kansas.
Donna married Allen Coolidge Simpson on November 27, 1949. He preceded her in death on April 15, 2009.
Mrs. Simpson attended Troy United Methodist Church and Risen Light Church. She enjoyed reading her bible and did so over 9 times.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Bynal and Norma (Rader) Benson; daughter, Sally Gillenwater; sister, Ellen Torrez; and son-in-law Dean Cluck.
Survivors include her children, Jeannie (Gene) Makeeff, Judy Cluck, Tommy (Barb) Simpson, Susan (Richard) Reynolds, Terry (Mary) Simpson and Mark (Tammy) Simpson; 15 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Sonny and Roy Benson; sisters, Mary Halstead, Dora Widman and Nancy Stearns; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joyce Jean Nitz

unnamedJoyce J. Nitz, 64, Atchison, Kansas died Saturday, December 3, 2016 at her home following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster, Kansas. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, December 10th from 12:30 until service time at the funeral home.
Joyce was born July 12, 1952 in Atchison, Kansas the daughter of Kenneth and Wanda Blair Green. She attended Martin East and Martin West Elementary Schools and Atchison High School.
She and Francis E. Nitz were united in marriage on August 22, 1970 at St. Benedict’s Church in Atchison, Kansas. Mr. Nitz preceded her in death on June 19, 1996.
Joyce was very active in Camp Fire Girls in Concordia. She served as vice president on the Camp Fire Girls Board. She participated in several day camps and over-night camp outs and was a leader. She enjoyed bowling and being on a league. While in Concordia she was also involved in TOPS and ABW. She became a Girl Scout Leader in Effingham and Atchison after leaving Concordia.
While living in Atchison she enjoyed her FCE Club and served as president. She enjoyed crocheting and swimming as a young girl she was on an Aquacades team.
Survivors include a son, Nolan Nitz, Fayetteville, Ark; two daughters, Suzanne Nitz, Atchison, KS; Hope Begnoche, Jamestown, KS; three brothers, Rick Green, Atchison, KS; John Green, Modesto, CA; Tom Boos, Grapevine, TX; four sisters, Dena Begesse, Muscotah, KS; Pam Green, Muscotah, KS; Dianne McMillan, Omaha, NE; Janis Boos, Omaha, NE; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents; daughter, Elizabeth Jackson; brothers, Robert, Ezra and Francis Starr; sisters, Mattie Starr, Shirley Young, and Sandra Broussard.
