Herbert Edward Spindler, Jr.
1917-2016

Herbert Edward Spindler, Jr., 98, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016 in Shawnee, Kansas.
He was born September 10, 1917 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Herbert married Mary Viola Gardner on January 31, 1939 at the parsonage in Kansas City, Missouri. She preceded him in death on December 28, 2014.
He was a 1935 graduate of St. Joseph’s Central High School, retired from the United States Postal Service after 31 years of service and became a sales representative for the Brooksfield Uniform Company. During his years as a carrier, he also was a Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop #25 of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Spindler served in the Merchant Marines during World War II in 1945. He was also a professional musician for 72 years. He played in various bands around town and finished his long musical career at the Joyce Raye Patterson Senior Citizens Center with the Classics Dance Band until he retired from the musical scene on December 31, 2005, due to ill health.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Sr. and Mary (Wilson) Spindler.
Survivors include son, Herbert Spindler, III; daughter, Suzanne Talbot, Union Star, Missouri; grandchildren, Lynn Matthews and Laurie Spindler-Huffman and Dwon Guvenir; and great-grandchildren, Adelita, Ashton and Sydney.

Gaylord Hawley Jensen
1924–2016

His memorial service is Sat., July 16, 10 a.m. at the Abundant Life Center, 5130 Faraon, St. Joseph, MO. Lunch and reception follows.
Gaylord was born April 13, 1924 in Maryville, MO, to Nina (Hawley) and Edward Jensen.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Don (2015), wife of 56 years Kay (Strader) (2010); Betty Jensen; and grandson Anan Smith (2012). Gaylord is survived by three children: Lon G. Jensen (Lufkin, TX), Cindy L. (Smith),(Independence, MO) and Jill (Chadwick)(husband, Darren)(Overland Park, KS). Six grandchildren: Brett Jensen (wife Pam) (St. Louis) & Johna (Jensen)Geist (husband Rob) (Lee’s Summit), Theira (Smith) Fung (husband Angus) (Chicago), Keston Smith (wife Simone)(NYC) & Thoric Smith (wife Sarah)(Independence, MO), and Taylor Silvestro (Kansas City). Four great-grandchildren: Nicholas Jensen, Quinn Geist, & Owen and Aiden Smith.
Gaylord was a farmer and minister who loved his community and church. He served 10 years on the Board of Directors for the Coop in Maryville, 13 years on the school board of South Nodaway Schools, and 8 years on the Far West Stakes church high council. He was called to Priest in the RLDS (Church of Christ) in 1954, ordained an Elder 1960, ordained a High Priest 1968, and Evangelist 1990. He served as Pastor of the Guildford branch from 1966-1986. His hobbies included fishing, wood-working & needle-point. He actively supported Kay in her role as founder of Camp Quality Northwest Missouri.

Mildred M. Ludwig

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at St. Louis Church with Fr. Benjamin Tremmel, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Louis Cemetery. A wake service will be Monday, June 27th at 6:30 P.M. in the chapel of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will follow until 8:00 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Louis Church and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Mildred was born May 30, 1934, in the Good Intent Community, the daughter of Henry and Sarah Watowa Scherer. She attended the St. Louis Church School.
She and Lawrence J. Ludwig were united in marriage on May 5, 1990, at St. Louis Church, Atchison, Kansas. Mr. Ludwig preceded her in death on November 19, 2008.
Mildred was employed as a nurse’s assistant at the Atchison Hospital and Cushing Memorial in Leavenworth. She then went worked at the Dwight D Eisenhower VA Medical Center in Leavenworth until her retirement in 1996.
She was a member of V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary in Atchison. Mildred enjoyed traveling and had visited 49 of the 50 states.
Survivors include four step children, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Lawrence, Raymond, Alfred, Louis, and Francis Scherer.

Dr. Solon Earl Haynes
1938-2016

He was born June 10, 1938 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Dr. Haynes proudly served in the United States Navy. He graduated from the University of Kansas with an Ed.D in Education. Dr. Haynes taught at Missouri Western State University for 38 years as a professor in the Education Department, influencing many educators throughout the St. Joseph Community.
He enjoyed flying, classic cars, bird hunting and KU basketball. Solon was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Dr. Haynes was preceded in death by his parents, Solon and Alberta (Cross) Haynes; and three sisters, Jean Myers, Mary Ruth Solak and Helen Ann Andrus.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Maureen; children, Susan Weber (Barry), Carmel, Indiana, Diana Haynes, Kansas City, Missouri and Solon Haynes (Andrea), St. Joseph, Missouri; grandchildren, Grant, Alyssa, Delaney and Alexander Weber and Michael, Connor and Brennan Haynes; sister, Joan Watts (Dale); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Peter Andrew Wertin
1934-2016

Peter Andrew Wertin 81, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Friday June 24, 2016. He was born August 18, 1934 in Mount Vernon, New York son of the late Maltida & Peter Wertin Sr. He worked at Midland Bottling and was a former co-owner of Hap’s Place. He served in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, Step daughter, Jackie Wilcox-Parker, step son Tracy Wilcox, and a sister, Mary Ellen Smiley. He is survived by wife, Connie Wertin of Saint Joseph, MO, step son, Mike Wilcox, step daughter Terry Jenkins, and a daughter of St. Joseph. He will be cremated under the direction of the Rupp Funeral Home. The inurnment will be at the Missouri State Cemetery, Higginsville, MO.

Scott “Scotty” Arthur Bell

He was born March 10, 1959 to Beverly (Haxton) and Arthur Bell in Sabetha, Kansas.
Scott graduated in 1980 from the Helen Davis School in St. Joseph. Scott was employed for a time at Specialty Industries. He was active in Special Olympics, bowling, basketball, track, Recreation Club and Resocialization. Scott enjoyed fishing, camping, vacations, and spending time with family and friends.
Scott had a very special bond with Kristy Copeland, Richard Ward, PCS, Dennis Harness, PCS and Dee Haynes, PCS.
Survivors include parents, Beverly and Arthur Bell; brother, Dennis Bell (Karen), all of St. Joseph, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by nephew, Andrew Bell; grandparents, Wilbur and Rose Haxton and Ralph and Josephine Bell.

He was born December 15, 1935 in Winthrop, MO, son of the late Regina and Jesse Betts. He graduated from Atchison High School and married Dolores Velazquez on November 16, 1957 at St. James Catholic Church. His first job was at the LFM foundary in Atchison, KS, he then worked for Harry Harrington at Harrington Automotive, then worked 8 years for Pepsi before founding Bob Betts Auto Repair in September 1972, he retired after 44 years of faithful service. Bob was active in the community and enjoyed being a member of the Eagles Lodge, South side Lions Club, the St. James Holy Name Society, and St. James Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards, dancing with his wife Dee, and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Richard, Walter, Harold and Kenneth Betts, and two sisters, Barbara Freeman, and Carol Lawrence. Isla Jean Bottom
1926-2016

HOLTON – Isla Jean Bottom, 89, of Holton, formerly of Havensville, died Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at The Pines in Holton.
She was born July 7, 1926 at Onaga, the daughter of Carl & Caroline Marten Figge.
Isla married Ralph Bottom on May 20, 1946 at Duluth. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary May 20, 2016. He survives, of the home.
She was a member of the Bucks Grove United Methodist Church and lived in the Bucks Grove community on a farm, moving to Holton six years ago. She loved having family around and working with her flowers and in the garden.
Isla was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Martin Figge.
Other survivors include four children, Ralph Eugene Bottom and wife Linda, Meriden, Charlene Reynolds and husband Garold, and Darlene Boeding and husband, Joe, all of Topeka, and Linda Bottom, Omaha, NE., ten grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 27th at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in the Bucks Grove Cemetery. Isla will lie in state from 12:00 noon until 8:30 p.m. Saturday and from 10:00 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Family and friends will meet an hour before service time on Monday. Anita M. Dickeson

Anita M. Dickeson, 98, a lifelong resident of Atchison, Kansas died Tuesday, June 21, 2016.
Memorial services for Anita and her son Michael will be Monday, June 27, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at First Christian Church with Rev. Russell Cooper officiating. Burial for both Anita and Michael will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. Anita was born October 22, 1917 the oldest of three children of William H. and Gladys Scott Harrison. She attended schools in Atchison.
She was married to Chester O. Dickeson on October 16, 1937 in Troy, Kansas. Mr. Dickeson preceded her in death on June 6, 1977.
Anita worked for the Atchison Hospital in the delivery room and later at the Atchison Courthouse.
Anita was a member of First Christian Church. Anita was always known throughout the years as a lady who was very concerned with making sure she presented herself with proper manners and appearance to her friends and acquaintances. She had a passion for making quilts, and shared those works of art with her many relatives over the years. Anita cultivated many lifelong friendships over the years including her relationships with Joyce Nolan, Louise Pruett, Sue Van Gordon and Chubby Darrenkamp, to name just a few, who were very attentive to her in her final years.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977 and their only child, Michael P. Dickeson on April 21, 2016, a sister Maxine and a brother, William A. “Red” Harrison.

Vaughn enjoyed listening to classic rock music, fishing and going out on the boat. His family was most important to him and was an avid KU Fan. He played baseball in his earlier years as catcher and he was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hiawatha, Kansas.

unnamed (30)HOLTON – David W. Streit, 38, of Holton, was found Saturday, June 18, 2016 at his home.
He was born August 15, 1977 at Sabetha, the son of Herbert and Denise Winters Streit. He attended Holton Schools and received his High School diploma about a year ago from Fresh Start, an accomplishment he was very proud of.
David worked at a variety of jobs. He did car detailing, and cut and sold wood. He also worked at Hutton Monuments in Topeka and for Strube Monument Service in Holton, and helped work on cars at Complete Car Care in Holton.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arnold and Lola Streit, and John and Marie Winters, and by an aunt, Karla Grau.
Survivors include his parents, Herbert and Denise Streit, Holton; two sisters, Kerry Becker and husband Justin, Holton, and Amanda Wright, Topeka, two nieces, Kelsi and Lauren Wright, one nephew, Micah Becker, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 25th at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Lucy Helen Diebolt

Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Benedict’s Church with Abbot Barnabas Senecal, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A rosary will be recited on Thursday at 9:30 A.M. at St. Benedict’s Church with visitation to follow until 10:30. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict School Endowment and may be left in care of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom the final arrangements have been entrusted.
Lucy was born on August 6, 1918 in Atchison County Kansas the seventh child of George Anton and Lucy Bridget (Colgan) Diebolt. She graduated from Mount St. Scholastica Academy in Atchison and continued to take classes through the Civil Service as well as various colleges throughout her life.
She traveled extensively in Cuba, Japan, China, Ireland and Portugal and lived for a short time in Alaska.
She earned the Meritorious Civilian Service Award, one of the highest civilian awards that can be granted by the Air Training Command. She retired after thirty five years as a federal employee, thirty years of that time at Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento, California. She first came to work there as a statistical clerk and was serving as a program analyst in the comptroller division at the time she retired. She returned to Kansas in February of 2013.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, John, Ralph, George and Joe and two sisters, Catherine Bryant and Dorothy Ebbrecht Merrigan.
Lucy is survived by many nieces and nephews and even more grand nieces and nephews, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. George (Mary Lou) Diebolt of Atchison, Kansas.
Even though she remained single all her life, she cared for her immediate and extended family with a generosity that knew no boundaries.

Dixie Fern White

She was born February 9, 1932 in Springfield, Missouri.
Dixie married Lloyd L. White, Sr. in 1949. She worked for Noma Lights for several years prior to being a housewife.
She enjoyed cooking and gardening. Dixie loved the holidays and her family was most important to her.
Mrs. White was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Sr.; parents, Donald and Flora (Grable) Morlock; son, Lloyd White, Jr.; and sisters, Charlotte Kerns and Nina Pratt.
Survivors include son, Gaylen White (Phil), St. Joseph, Missouri; three grandchildren, Michael White, Los Angeles, California, Christopher White (Amber), Cameron, Missouri and Gail Brown (Eric), St. Joseph, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Christina, Gabe and Presley White; sisters, Elaine Kretzer, Houston, Texas, Betty Pilcher, St. Joseph, Missouri and Claudia Butler, St. Joseph, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donald Ray Moyers
1943-2016

Donald Ray Moyers, 72, of Mound City passed away Thursday, June 16, 2016 at his home.
Don was born on July 31, 1943, in Middlesboro, Kentucky, to Tee and Lelia Moyers. Don and his family moved from Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Mound City in 1960, and he graduated from Bellevue School.
He married Jane Wilson on March 17, 1973, who survives of the home.
Don worked as a carpenter and famer for most of his life, and though he was often quiet, he never knew a stranger. Don most enjoyed going fishing and spending time with his kids and grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jenny; and brother, Carl.
Survivors include his wife, Jane (Wilson), of the home; son, Cody (Amanda) Moyers of Mound City; daughter, Brittany Moyers (Chris Brammann) of Mound City; granddaughters, Nichole Brammann and Macy Moyers of Mound City; grandson due in October; brothers, Ronald, Tom, and Junior; sisters Mable and Regina; and several nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was born on November 19, 1930 on the family farm in Agency, Missouri. She is the daughter of Thomas E. “Tom” Hutchison, Sr. and Nellie Viola “Vi” (Wheeler) Hutchison, who both prededed her in death. Her father lovingly nicknamed her “Sweetie” and she also had the nickname of “Pebe” and was “Aunt Pebe” to many nieces and nephews.
She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
She enjoyed playing bingo and at one time owned and operated her own ceramics shop. Phyllis was a former member of the Eastern Star.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, John Hutchison; and sister, Beverly Schweder.
Survivors include daughter, Janice Miller of Independence, Missouri; sons, Harry O. Wallace (Patty) and Douglas A. Wallace (Gail) all of Warsaw, Missouri; eight grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren; sister, Donna L. Hilton (Doug); and brother, Thomas E. Hutchison, Jr.

Donna Jean Futscher Pyle

Donna Jean Futscher Pyle, 88, died Friday evening, June 17, 2016, at her rural Morrill home, surrounded by her family.
She was born near Reserve, Kansas, to the late Leonard and Florence Bowen Futscher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey F. Pyle, April 9, 2014, four days after they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. She was also preceded by a brother Neil Futscher of Hiawatha; sisters: Shirley Joan, Beverly Wadsworth of La Crescenta, CA; sons in law Fred Kess of Chandler, AZ, Steven Wostal of Cleo Springs, OK.
Survivors include three sons: Gary (Laura) of Morrill, Glen (Leah) of Valley Falls, KS, Mark (Ann Marie) of Panama City, FL; five daughters: Cynthia (J.D.) Dempewolf of Morrill, KS, Jill (Chris) Droge of Assaria, KS, Nancy Wostal of Cleo Springs, OK, Penny Pyle of Des Moines, IA, Ann Kess of Sabetha; sister Marilyn Wapato of Huntington Beach, CA; 28 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren.
Donna graduated from Hart, District 33 Grade School, later graduated from Hiawatha High School with the class of 1945. Following graduation, she was employed for eight years at the Hiawatha Daily World which was then published every day except Sunday. She attended the Reserve Methodist Church, then moving to Hiawatha where she attended the Hiawatha United Methodist Church and was baptized. She also belonged to the Morrill Tip Top 4-H Club, played first base on a girl’s softball team, and a member of the Sigma Epsilon Sorority.
Dewey returned home from serving with the 245th anti-aircraft division of the Army and they were married Easter Sunday at the Reserve Methodist Church. They then moved to the Detroit, Michigan area where he had employment waiting. After three years, they moved to a farm south of Morrill where they have lived since.
A Celebration of Donna’s life is planned for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Interment will follow at Morrill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Tuesday, where the family will meet from 6 until 8 that evening.

Leonard was born on November 16, 1960 to William “Bill” & Betty (Sharp) Snodgrass of Leavenworth, KS. He was the 4th born of 5 Siblings. Bev Armstrong (Wally) Lansing, KS. Ellen Pettis, Leavenworth, KS. Tim Snodgrass (Lisa), Drexel, MO, Jim Snodgrass (Connie), Wathena, KS. He was the Uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
Leonard married LaDonna Newton on January 5, 1979 in Wathena, KS. She survives the home with their fur babies Jacob, Lucky, and Jack. They first met in the one room school house in Blair when they were in 1st and 3rd grade and started dating when they were a freshmen and junior in High school and have been inseparable ever since.
Leonard and LaDonna have been blessed with 2 Daughters, 2 Son-in-Laws, and 4 Grandchildren. Shawna, Adam, Ashton, and Shaylee Allfree of Edwardsville, KS, and Tashia, Travis, Emerson, and Trinity of De Soto, KS.
Leonard was a hard working man of all trades and was always there to help everyone. He started his love of fixing things as a young boy and throughout his life he owned and ran several businesses including Wathena Diesel, Faucett Diesel, & L&M Truck Repair. Most recently he was employed at JM Fahey Construction and was part of the Heavy Machine Operators Union #101.
Outside of work Leonard was a devoted family man. He was an amazing Husband, Dad, and Grandpa. He shared his love for the outdoors in which his free time was full of 4-wheeling, boating,
camping, fishing, vacationing, and family gatherings at their lovely home he helped build from the ground up. He lived by the motto that you “Work Hard to Play Hard.” He had more friends than one could count. He lived life to the fullest and everyone that knew him has a story of something crazy and fun they did together. He touched the lives of so many people.
He was a man of Christian faith which was strengthened with this journey as he showed his Strength and Courage. “Be Strong and Courageous for the Lord your God goes with you.”-Deuteronomy 31:6
Visitation will be Tue June 21st from 6-8pm and the Memorial Service will be Wed June 22nd at 11:00am, both at Harman-Rohde Funeral Home in Wathena, KS. His Celebration of Life Lunch will follow the Memorial Service at their residence – 935 Monument Rd. Wathena, KS 66090.

He was born October 23, 1927 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Elizabeth and Andrew Kline. He married Virginia Mott on April 19, 1950 at. St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and they have shared 66 years together. He served in the Army and is a veteran of the World War II. Then worked at Swift until it closed, and retired from Carnation Pet Food. Butch was a member of St. James Catholic Church, and the American Legion, Wathena, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Andrea Kline Smith, 5 brothers, George, Robert, Charles and William Kline, and Vince Gabriel, two sisters, Marie Bauman, and Lorene Miller. Survivors include wife, Virginia K. Kline of the home, daughter, Lorrie Hunt of St. Joseph, MO, son, Mitchell Andrew (Mary) Kline of Shawnee, KS, two granddaughters, Nichole (Brian) Schmidt, and Rachael (Nathan) Rich, 6 great grandsons, and two sisters, Rose Rohrer, and Betty (Ralph) Tymson of St. Joseph, MO.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 17, 2016, at 10:00 am at the St. James Catholic Church, Fr. Christian Malewski Celebrant. Thomas James “T.J.” Handsome 71, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Wednesday June 15, 2016 at Mosaic Life Care Hospital. He was born January 23, 1945 in St. Louis, Missouri son of the late Jewell & James Wesley Handsome. He retired from the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer in 1987 and is a veteran of the Viet Nam War. T.J was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Marcella of the home, sons Darrin (Dena) Handsome and Tom Hamdsome (Barb Parks) of Jacksonville, FL, daughter, Sheila (Wayne) Wilson of St. Joseph, MO, six grandchildren, Justin, Miranda, Courtney, Preston, Devin, and Taran. He will be cremated under the care and direction of the Rupp Funeral Home. There are no scheduled visitation or memorial services at this time. Dickie Ray Adkins
1947-2016

Dickie Ray Adkins, was born October 8, 1947, at Leona, Kansas, the son of Franklin and Maude Randall Adkins, and had lived in the Leona-Robinson area nearly all of his life. He died Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at his rural Robinson home surrounded by his family. He was 68.
Dick attended schools in the Leona-Highland area and worked to earn his GED. He attended Atchison Vo-Tech and earned a degree as an auto mechanic. He loved working on vehicles, painting houses and barns. He worked on local farms in the Doniphan and Brown counties in his earlier years in life. He later worked for himself painting homes, and barns, along with working on cars. He lived outside Leona for a few years on a farm with family until his Dad passed away. Dick lived at Severance a few years before moving to his home near Robinson in 2001. He loved to be outside staying busy, spending time with family, watching WWE, SCI-FY, and Discovery Channel.
He was married to Mary Bowen Kopp for ten years before the marriage ended in divorce.
Survivors include children: Marilyn (Adkins) Duckett of Axtell, KS, Richard Adkins of Wood River, IL, Donald Ingram, Jr. of Robinson, Ralph (Bonita) Ingram of Indiana, Kandy (Ingram) Manis of Hiawatha; siblings: Betty Myers of Benton, Cleo Stewart of Severance, Alfred Adkins of Hiawatha, Art (Rosalie Adkins of Troy, John (Ive) Adkins of Corpus Christie, TX, Delbert (Sharon) Adkins of Hiawatha, Gertrude Hamilton of Highland, Joyce (Kenny) Moppin of Severance, Danny (Terry) Adkins, also of Severance; 16 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his lifelong companion Christina Ingram in 2013; four brothers: an infant, Jack, Melvin, Sam Adkins; and a sister Erma Pohl.
Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland, with Pastor Tom Carter, of Highland Christian Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, north of Leona.

She was born June 12, 1929 in Texhoma, Oklahoma. Rosie graduated from Oregon High School, Oregon, Missouri in 1945.
Her first job was working at the Hotel Robidoux, where she met her future husband Jack Russell Miller. They married March 19, 1948 and he preceded her in death November 9, 1999.
Rosie and Jack purchased the Hoof and Horn Tavern in 1963 and sold it in 1979. In 1980, she began working at Fredrick Inn Steakhouse, retiring in 2015.
She loved family, was a great mom, sister, grandma, and friend. She enjoyed outings with her brothers and family, reading, taking trips and having a nice yard. Rosie was an avid Royals fan. She was a member of Central Christian Church, active in OPALS and her Sunday school class.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Abby (Stull) Worley; brothers, Richard Worley and Sherman Worley; and sister-in-law, Beverly Worley.

Carl was a good man and a wonderful husband with a smile that lasted forever. He started his working career at the age of 13 for Kelsey Nursery which was located off of Alabama in St. Joe and retired in 2007 at the age of 71 years young from Bunge Milling in Atchison, KS. He liked fishing and watching the deer that came through his property, and taking care of his peach orchard. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers: Frederick, James, Tommy, Louie, Anthony, and George Jagodzinski, and two sisters, Hattie Shefflebarger, and Eleanor Jagodzinski. Survivors include, his wife Maretta Boswell, three sisters, Mary Ann (Leonard) Newey of Saint Joseph, MO, Katherine Gregg of Bronson, KS, and Delores Graf of Plains, KS. as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Darline was born February 16, 1920 in rural Ringgold County, Iowa, the daughter of Edmond Howe and Gertrude Humphreys James. She attended schools in Ringgold County. On April 13, 1940, she was married to Kenneth Duane Adkins in a small ceremony at Grant City, Mo. Shortly after they were married, the young couple moved to California where they lived in Calistoga, located in the Napa Valley. They both worked at the U.S. Naval shipyards at Mare Island. Duane also drove a bus for the U.S. government during this time. Approximately two years later, they came back to Missouri where Duane enlisted in the Army. Before their return to Missouri, Duane had declined a six-month deferment to enlist, stating he felt a duty to go and fight in WWII. After his discharge at the end of World War II, Darline and Duane moved to St. Joseph where Darline continued her education at St. Joseph Junior College (which eventually became Missouri Western). She went on to graduate from Gard Business University. Following those educational experiences, she went to work for a local ear nose and throat doctor, and later H&R Block tax preparers. Darline accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior when she was 15 years old. She was baptized in the Grand River Ewing Ford north of Allendale, Mo, along with several other young people. She was a Faithful member of Copeland Baptist Church in St. Joseph. Her Faith was ever enduring until the end of life and she always maintained a Christian home for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers, Oral, Victor and Phrayne, and one sister, Jessie Washburn. Survivors include: one sister, Maxine Washburn of Hatfield, Mo., two sons, Marvin Adkins of St. Joseph and Adrian (A.J.) Adkins of Farmington, Arkansas, one daughter-in-law, Laurie Adkins of Farmington, Arkansas. Grand children include: Brian Adkins of St. Joseph, along with his daughter Brittany Winder of St. Joseph, Ben Adkins, Jake Adkins, Annie Campbell and Madeline Hutson all of Northwest Arkansas. Several beloved great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10 AM Tuesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Inurnment will be at a later date.

He was born February 24, 1922 in Ottawa, KS, son of the late Nora and Murray Klein. He graduated from Kansas University with a degree in Accounting. He served in the Army Air Corp and is a veteran of the WW II serving in the Asiatic Theatre, stationed in China, Burma and India. Following that service, he joined the Army Reserves until the Korean War. Following his graduation from KU, he was an Accountant for Skelly Oil Company, he then worked at KAW Transport in KC, MO as a Executive VP. He was proud of his military service and was a member of the CBI (China Burma India) veterans organization, he also was on one of the Honor Flights that visited the WWII Memorial in Washington DC in 2009. He enjoyed fishing, KU Sports, the Chiefs & Royals, home improvements and lately he enjoyed genealogy. He was a member of the Old Mission Methodist Church in Fairway, KS. Bud was preceded in death by wife, Lorene Ethel Klein, daughter, Patricia Ann Klein, brother, Ralph Klein, and a sister, Fern B Wilkinson. Survivors include: son, Steven (Betty) Klein of St. Joseph, MO, sister, Faye A Robbins of Lawrence, KS, Grandchild, Gypsy Murdock and partner Patrick Hogan.

Roselyn S. “Rose” Boeckman

unnamed (20)Roselyn S. “Rose” Boeckman, 79, died late Saturday evening, June 11, 2016, at Hiawatha Community Hospital.
Rose was born at Axtell, January 2, 1937, one of eight children born to the late Ambrose and Stella Becker Koelzer. She grew up in near Seneca and attended St. Peter and Paul School, graduating high school with the class of 1955. Rose worked as a telephone operator, and A&P Grocery Store in the meat department, for a few years.
She married Jerry Boeckman, April 30, 1958, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at Seneca. They lived at Falls City, Nebraska a short time, before moving to Hiawatha to make their home and raise their family. They owned and operated W&W Shoes, downtown Hiawatha, for 28 years before retiring in 1998. She also did sewing for folks in this area making various articles of clothing including wedding dresses.
Rose was a longtime member of St. Ann Catholic Church of Hiawatha; and the Altar Society of the Church. She and several other ladies were the ‘funeral committee’ at Church…serving untold number of funeral dinners through the years.
Survivors include her husband Jerry of 58 years of the home; two daughters: Julie Rieger (Jim) of rural Fairview, Connie Schroeder (Eric) of Olathe, KS; two sons: Robert Boeckman (Jenny), and Jim Boeckman (Michelle), both of Hiawatha; a sister Jane Niehues of Woodland, California; three brothers: Dave Koelzer of Meriden, KS, Steve Koelzer of Stafford, KS, Keith Koelzer of Seneca; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Vivian Hutfles; two brothers: Jim, and Jack.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann Catholic Church in Hiawatha at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 16, with Father Dan Gardner as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Peter and Paul Church Cemetery, Seneca.
Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home after 10 am. Wednesday. The parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home, followed by the family visiting with friends until 8 p.m.

Danny Wayne Pace

Danny was born June 7, 1964, in Falls City, Nebraska to Juanita McFeeters. He grew up in the Horton-Hiawatha area where he attended school. Danny was currently employed at Triumph Foods in St. Joseph.
Danny enjoyed the KC Chiefs and the Royals. Rock music was one of his passions, as well as, collecting vintage cassette tapes. His talents and hobbies included barbequing/smoking meats, and mushroom hunting.
He and the love of his life, Brook Ingram, were married on May 5, 1998 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She survives at the home.
Also surviving is his mother Juanita (Richard) McFeeters of Hiawatha, sisters: Judy (Rick) Johnson of Hiawatha, Tammy McFeeters of Falls City, Lori McFeeters of Pittsburg, KS; niece Amanda Johnson; nephews: Brian, Paul, Chris, and Jeremy Harmon; great-nieces Amelia, Natalie; great-nephews: Brian Jr., and Silas.
Danny was preceded in death by a son Brandon Michael Pace, and a nephew Milo Johnson.
Danny was loved by many and will be greatly missed!
A Celebration of Danny’s life is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday, June 16, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha, with cremation to follow.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Wednesday. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services Thursday.

Loucks, Luke obit photoLuke Loucks, 100 years of age, passed away June 11, 2016, at John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Born in Holt County Missouri on August 18, 1915 to Samuel and Cora Loucks, Luke graduated from Mound City High School and later married Jeanne Hester in 1943.
After attending Chillicothe Business College, Luke joined the United States Army. He served in North Africa and in the invasion of Italy. Following the war, Luke worked in Kansas City for Barada & Page until being recalled to military service during the Korean conflict. Luke left the service as a First Lieutenant.
Luke and Jeanne were blessed with their son Gary in 1955.
After leaving military service, Luke returned to work for McKesson Chemical and in 1969 was transferred to Cleveland, Ohio. He retired in 1976 and lived in North Kansas City before moving to John Knox Village in the early nineties.
During his retirement years, Luke enjoyed traveling, gardening, fly fishing, and woodworking at the Hobby Hut. In addition, he was instrumental in advancing the use of the artificial larynx and served as President of the Heart of America Nu-Voice Club He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a Shriner.
Luke was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Jeanne and brother, Charles. He is survived by son Gary and wife Pam of Kansas City, Elaine Fulton, his companion of 23 years, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Luke was a gentle, kind and loving man who was adored and will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Darrel married Dixie Durbin on August 26, 1950.
He proudly served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II.
Darrel worked at C. Pettijohn Motor Company as a body mechanic for 44 years until retiring in 1989. He was of the Christian faith and volunteered at the King City Fire Department as Fire Chief. Darrel enjoyed coaching Little League, fishing, hunting and gardening, but most of all he was devoted to his family.
He was a member of the American Legion in King City, Missouri for 70 plus years and was a charter member of the Lions Club in King City, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Artie and Jesse (Wells) Cotter; grandson, Skyler Durbin Downing; son-in-law, Landis Downing; three brothers; and two sisters.

Gene was born June 18, 1928 in Atchison, Kansas the son of Leo and Agnes Hess Pitts. He attended St. Benedict’s Elementary School, graduated from Maur Hill Prep School in 1946 and then attended an electrical and air conditioning school in Kansas City.
Gene served as an electrician, he then went to work for Levin Furniture Company for ten years, was self-employed from 1957 until 1958 and then he accepted a position for Page Airways where he served for seven years. He then went to work for the D.E.H. Electrical Shop at Ft. Leavenworth serving there for twenty four years until his retirement.
He served with the United States Army during the Korean Ware from November 30, 1950 until his honorable discharge on August 30, 1952.
He was a member of St. Benedict Parish, and served as an usher for many years at St. Benedict’s Church. He formerly served on the board of directors for Pineview Country Club, Maur Hill “500” Club, Knights of Columbus Council #723 and St. Benedict’s Church and School Board, Atchison Elks Club, was former commander and life member of Fleming-Jackson-Seever Post #6 of the American Legion and formerly a member of the Forty and Eight club and a life member of V.F.W. Post #1175. In his younger years he played baseball, enjoyed hunting, fishing and later played golf at both Bellevue Country Club and Pineview Country Club.
Immediate survivors include his cousins.

Marilyn was born to Harry and Helen Meyer on July 24, 1947 in St. Joseph, Missouri, where she grew up surrounded by countless cousins and closely-held friends.
She met Randy Dedrickson in Maryville, Missouri where they both attended Northwest Missouri State University in the fall of 1967, and they quickly became life-long sweethearts. They married on June 7, 1969 in St. Joseph, Missouri where they settled in to raise their family.
Marilyn taught for over 40 years in the St. Joseph School District, and touched the lives of every child who entered her classroom. Marilyn was honored to be named Missouri Teacher of the Year in 1984 and will forever to be remembered for her dedication inside and beyond the classroom. Together, Marilyn and Randy raised two children, Jason and Jamey, to whom Marilyn gave her everything. They were blessed with three grandchildren, who were the lights of her life.
Marilyn loved most her days at their lake house at the Lake of the Ozarks, her sacred mahjong group, playing endless card games, volunteering at Ashland United Methodist, and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Randy Lee Dedrickson; her son, Jason Randall Dedrickson (Erin Conroy); her daughter, Jamey Nichole Dugger (Rod); her grandchildren, Jack, Dylan and Tyler Dedrickson; and many relatives and friends.

She had three sons with her first husband, George (Irene) Miller (deceased) of Anchorage, Alaska, Charles (Linda) Miller of Kansas City, Mo and Dr. Bill Miller of Columbia, Mo., who practiced family medicine in St Joseph for many years. In 1970 their family was blessed by Charlene’s marriage to Lt. Col Marvin Rainey, who brought a daughter and sister into the family, Jennifer (Michael) Rake of Dallas, Texas. They were married for 28 years before Marvin’s death in 1998. God blessed Charlene and Marvin with eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Charlene attended Central High School, Class of 1945. She enjoyed many church and community activities. She and Marvin were involved in the Moila Shrine and were active members of First Baptist Church. Charlene was a member of P.E.O. Chapter E.D. and Wyatt Park Baptist Church. Charlene worked for over 25 years in the business office at Missouri Western State University.

1926-2016

Marcella May Martin, 90, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Monday, June 6, 2016 at her home.
She was born January 16, 1926 in Grant City, Missouri.
She was a beautician in her home for forty years, retiring at the age of 79.
She enjoyed gardening, loved to cook, but the most important thing in her life was family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Wallace Martin; daughter, Marla Curtis; infant grandson, Eugene Hamm; and parents, Clinton and Elsie (Johnson) Cooper; brothers, Duane and Charles Cooper.
Survivors include children, Larry W. Martin of St. Joseph, Missouri and Linda Hamm (Larry) of Lees Summit, Missouri; brother, Harold Eugene Cooper (JoAnn) ; grandchildren, Loricia Gilpin (Don) of St. Joseph, Missouri, Lisa Chick-Sparks (Roger) of St. Joseph, Missouri, Larry Martin (Tricia) of O’Fallon, Missouri, Danny Janovec of St. Joseph, Missouri, Christopher Hamm (Erica) of Shawnee, Kansas, Matthew and Tara Curtis of St. Joseph, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Lauren Short (Josh), Jeremy Chick (Emily), Kameron Sparks, Jessica Martin, Donovan Gilpin, Douglas Gilpin, Cidney Makenzee and Kenlie Curtis, and Sha’Lynn Curtis; great-great-grandchildren, Benjamin Gilpin, Jordan Gilpin and Scarlett Short; and several nieces and nephews and great- nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the caregivers Lisa Chick-Sparks, Twilla Sauter and Nona Cogdill with Mosaic Hospice.
