Edna Louise Higley (Pike)

Edna Louise Higley, 86, of Nortonville, KS, formerly of Lancaster, KS passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019 at the Village Villa Nursing Home, Nortonville, KS.

Edna has been cremated and a private family burial of cremated remains will be at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Alpha Christian Children’s Home and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home who is handling the arrangements. Edna was born October 20, 1932 in Rushville, MO the daughter of Arthur and Hazel (Frazier) Pike. In her younger years she worked for Hallmark in Kansas City and then bartended at several different establishments such as Riverbend, Shirley’s Tavern and the Lancaster Café. Edna also was a housewife and homemaker. She was a member of the Farmington Christian Church and she enjoyed crafts, baking, fishing, small game hunting and cooking. Edna’s was the place for local kids to go for her taco’s, sloppy joes, and cookies. She also loved to make Christmas candy boxes for family, friends, and local businesses.

Edna married Donald C. Higley on May 23, 1958 at the First Christian Church, he preceded her in death on June 15, 2011. Survivors include two children, Richard Higley, Lancaster, KS, Karen Tennison Harveyville, KS, three brothers, Arthur Pike, TX, Tom Pike, St. Joseph, MO, Gary Pike, O’Fallon, MO, five sisters, Donna Beck, Olathe, KS, Helen Blalock, Kansas City, MO, Loretta Enzor, Warrensburg, MO, Shirley Owsley, Independence, MO, Linda Johnson, Independence, MO, grandchildren, Dara Gibson, Zachary Tennison, Garet Tennison, Matthew Tennison, Sarah Tennison and six great grandchildren with one on the way.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Frances Zerr.

Juanita Marie Jones (Noll)

Juanita Marie (Noll) Jones, 82, passed away Monday, June 17, 2019 at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

Juanita was born November 17, 1936 in rural Winchester, the fourth child of A.T. and Pearl (Servaes) Noll. She attended Oak Grove Grade School in the Mooney Creek community of Jefferson County and graduated from Winchester Rural High School in 1954. Juanita worked for more than 30 years as a payroll clerk for the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth (SCL), first at St. John Hospital and then at the Sisters of Charity Mother House. During that period, she processed 798 payrolls, missing only one pay period because the doctor would not release her to walk down the hospital hallway and process payroll.

Juanita’s love was everything in nature including flowers, birds, fishing, mushroom hunting and watching meteor showers in the middle of the night. Her time was always spent tending to her garden and flowers, and tromping through the woods on her parents’ farm. There was no boundary to her care for others and her desire to help people. She was a guiding light and shoulder to cry on for many. Her love will live on in all whom she touched.

She married Eugene F. Kramer in 1959; they later divorced. She married Charles E. Jones on July 6, 1977; he preceded her in death in 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother Thomas T. Noll, sister Judy Sigman, stepson Dayle Jones and grandson Brandon Behne.

She is survived by a daughter, Peggy Hill of Holton: son Tony (Sherry) Kramer of Easton, stepdaughter Diane (John) Behne and stepson David (Tracy) Jones of Easton, and stepson Donald Jones of Leavenworth. She was blessed with six granddaughters, five grandsons and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Nina (Leo) Kreutzer, Doris (Don) Ruhlman and Ruth Hoffman, a sister-in-law Dorothy Noll, as well as many nieces and nephews. Juanita was also preceded in death by a lifelong friend John Sloop.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 20th, 2019 at the Corpus Christi Church, Mooney Creek, KS with Fr. Lazar Carasala as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Corpus Christi Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, June 19th, 2019 at the O’Trimble Funeral Chapel, 329 Main St. , Nortonville, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Corpus Christi Church or the Corpus Christi Cemetery and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Mary Chleborad

Mary Chleborad, 101, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away at Living Community on Monday, June 17, 2019.

She was born in 1918 to Julius and Katherine (Krupczak) Syata in St. Joseph. She graduated from the Convent of the Sacred Heart and Platte Gard Business School. She worked as a secretary for Quaker Oats. While in high school she worked at Jerre Anne’s Cafeteria.

In 1940 she married James Chleborad. He preceded her in death in 2008. Also preceding her in death were her parents and brothers, John, George, Walter, and Frank Syata and a sister Josephine Komer.

Mary was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, St. Francis Altar Society, Ladies of Charity and Daughters of Isabella. She was a volunteer at Heartland Hospital. In 1987 she received the Bishop’s Recognition Award, while she was a member of Queen of the Apostles Church.

Survivors include a son, Tom Chleborad (Anne) of St. Joseph; daughter, Mary Kay Herring (Leon) of Kearney, MO; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a devout Catholic and prayed her rosary every day. She dearly loved her family and always enjoyed family gatherings. She was an avid card player, enjoying bridge, pinochle, and canasta. She was a wonderful cook and had handed down her famous Polish recipes.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Francis Catholic Church, St. Francis House of Bread, or Conception Abbey Seminary.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, June 20, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited by the Daughters of Isabella at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. A Parish Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home. Visitation will be after 12:00 noon on Wednesday, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joyce Brandon

Leona “Joyce” Brandon, 85, Savannah, MO; passed away Sunday, June 16, 2019 in Kansas City, Missouri.

Joyce was born on August 27, 1933 in Barnard, Missouri to the late Glen and Sylvia (Belcher) Rasco. She was a graduate of Rosendale High School.

Joyce was a devoted wife and proud mother of 5 and grandmother of 2 Eagle Scouts. She was a member of Rosendale Christian Church, and was an avid reader and crafter.

Joyce married Claude E. Brandon on June 26, 1955. They celebrated fifty-nine years of marriage, before he preceded her in death in 2014.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Belinda Jean Brandon; her son, Steve and grandson, Justin Brandon.

Joyce is survived by four sons, Jeff (Lori), Fox Lake, IL; Craig (Jenell) Lake Winnebago, MO; Mike (Marla), Spring Hill, TN; Rodney (Jenny) Buffalo Grove, IL; Joyce leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Joan Acklin.

Services 1:00 PM Thursday, June 20, 2019 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith Savannah Chapel, where the family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Interment Savannah Cemetery.

Frances L Cramer

Frances L. Cramer 93, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Friday, June 14, 2019 in Saint Joseph, MO.

She was born March 30, 1926 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of the late Henrietta and Harold Cramer. She worked at Townsend & Wall Department Store for 39 years, St. Joseph Newspress for 7 years in the advertising departments. She owned a cabin for many years with her friend, Georgia Hathorne at Bean Lake. They enjoyed camping very much, starting in a small tent with friends, then graduating to a Popup camper, then a Pick-up camper, and finally a 27 foot Motor home. They were members of the Pony Express Camping Club, the Good Sam’s Club, and various others of which they made many friends along the way. She was also a member the local Volkswalk Club, (walking a 10K twice a month), and the Midland Empire Audubon Society, and she enjoyed “birding” with the group, and was a Christian.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, and her friend, Georgia Hathorne.

Survivors include, friends, Maggie Brantley and Sharon Lohmeyer, who had cared for her, cousins, Gretchen Oberi, and Kurt and wife Audrey.

Funeral services: 2:00 pm, Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Rupp Funeral Home, Pastor Leanna VanZandt-Nauman officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery . Memorials are requested to the Audubon Society.

Sharron K Reynolds

Sharron K. Reynolds 76, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019 at her home. She was born December 16, 1942 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of the late Opal and John Gust. She graduated from Benton High School, and married Jesse Reynolds on June 4, 1960, he survives of the home. She worked at the Ithaca Gun Factory in Cameron, MO, and the Till Oil Co. in Stewartsville, MO. She enjoyed going to their cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks, and she was a member of the Word of Life Church.

Sharron was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include husband, Jesse Reynolds of the home, daughter, Karrie (Gerry) Spor, Lawson, MO., son, Kelly (Laurie) Reynolds, St. Joseph, MO, brother, Fritz (Kathleen) Gust, Roseland, MO., 4 grandchildren: Jessica Roe, Jennifer Churchill, Adam Treece, and Kristina Nold, and 9 great grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services and Interment will be conducted on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of the Rupp Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to the Word of Life Church.

Robert L. “Bob” Davis, Sr.

Robert L. “Bob” Davis, Sr., 93, St. Joseph, passed away June 13, 2019.

Mr. and Mrs. Davis enjoyed being camp ground hosts for 16 years at Lewis and Clark State Park. Mr. Davis was in the United States Army and a World War II veteran. Mr. Davis was employed at Swift’s.

Preceded in death by: parents, wife Darlene (2011), granddaughter Stacia Wegenka (1974), brother Harold Dee Davis, Sr, and an infant sister, Eula Jean

Survivors: children, Sharon Wegenka (James), Jimmie L. Davis, Sr., Virginia Stehr (John), Robert L. Davis, Jr. (Karen); 9 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.

Services: Tuesday, June 18 1:00 PM at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel in St. Joseph. Visitation: Monday, June 17, 2019 12:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at our chapel. Interment: Ashland Cemetery.

George “Tom” Alden, 82, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Friday, June 14, 2019, at Mosaic Life Care.

Darlene (Collier) Davidson

Darlene (Collier) Davidson, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019.

She was born October 26, 1948 in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Darlene married Jerry Lee Davidson May 26, 1968. He survives of the home.
She was a member of Helena United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed going to the Bearcat games and spending time with her granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold, Sr. and Leola (Allsbury) Collier; and sister-in-law, Neta Collier.
Additional survivors include daughters, Jennifer Harman (Scott) and Stephanie Mifflin (Sheldon); granddaughters, Ashlynn and Olivia Mifflin; brothers, Harold Collier, Jr., Daniel Collier (Mary); numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Stanley Martin Crawford

Stanley Martin Crawford, 93, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019, at a local healthcare facility.

He was born January 15, 1926 in Barnard, Missouri. Stanley married Jacqueline Wise on December 26, 1950.
He was in the Coast Guard and the Army and a veteran of World War II.

Stanley was an upholsterer for many years, liked wood working and refurbishing antiques. He enjoyed going fishing with his wife and later in life they would go to the airport to see the planes and have dinner dates.
Stanley loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Opha and Hazel (Thompson) Crawford; brothers, Dale, Forrest, Eldon and Curt.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Jacqueline; son, Stacey Crawford (Judy); daughter, Deborah D’Arcy (David); grandchildren, Dannen, Denae, Amanda, Lauren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Farewell Services 1:00 P.M. Monday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
