Hegeman, Margaret. obitphoto COSBY, Mo. — Margaret “Joan” Hegeman, 83, longtime resident of Cosby, Mo, passed away at a local health care facility on October 28, 2015.
Joan was born May 24, 1932 to Julius and Minnie (Triplett) Kowitz in Helena, Mo.
She graduated from Savannah High School and Northwest Missouri State College with a degree in Vocational Home Economics.
She married Donald Hegeman on June 18, 1955 and they had four children.
She was very active in her community with leadership roles in the following organizations: Chair of the Congregation for Hope United Church of Christ, Board of Regents at Missouri Western State College, Daughters of the American Revolution, Cosby Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, University of Missouri Extension, Missouri Holstein Association, Andrew County Republican Central Committee, Rolling Hills Public Library Board, Cosby Area Friendship Club, President of the Shady Lawn Nursing Home Board, Helena Elementary PTA, Cosby 4-H Club, founding member of the Savannah Music Accents Boosters Club, Semper Fidelis, and PEO.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years; parents; sister, Barbara Alexander; and brothers in law, Bill Alexander, Edward Boulger and Charles Dickson.

She was born on February 23, 1930 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Flora graduated from Helena High School, class of 1947. She began her career as the owner and operator of Union Star Café. Following that she was a manager at Big Smith Cafeteria, dietary manager at Beverly Manor and later worked and retired from Walmart.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, David Nichols; parents, Albert and Ida (Thornton) Fisher; and sisters, Mary Ella Fisher and Thelma Mittan .
Survivors include her sons, Rex Ott (JoAnn), Danville, Iowa, Steve Ott (Sally), White Settlement, Texas, Charlie Nichols, St. Joseph, and Greg Nichols (Roxanne), Spring, Texas; daughters, Valerie Welshhons (William), Las Vegas, Pam Johnson (Johnny), Lincoln, Nebraska, and Mary Van Winkle, St. Joseph; 17 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.

Arthur “Art” H. Brantley

He was born August 27, 1921 in Pine Bluff, AR, son of Lucille and John Brantley. He graduated from high school and served in the United States Army, and he is a veteran of the World War II receiving his European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon. Art married Maggie Wray on November 21, 1958, and they shared 56 years together. He retired from Southwestern Bell after 39 1/2 years working as a lineman and Tandem Switch Room operator. He and Maggie loved their RV and started traveling in 1972, and after retirement in 1986 they were more full time. They were members of the FCRV Family Campers RV Club, and the Good Sam RV Club. They traveled to 28 states and to Canada, and attended 340 “Samberees” together. Two of his favorite things were his RV and mowing. Art was Episcopalian. Preceding him in death are his parents, a son, John R. Brantley, granddaughter, Heida Benonydittir, two brothers, John A. and Billy Brantley, and five sisters, Lucille Crowell, Luetta Jarvis, Altressa Williams, Maude Ella Richards, and Josephine Bierman. Survivors include, wife, Maggie of the home, three daughters: Deb (Frank) Vera of Arlington, TX, Cindy Fiene of Lincoln, NE, and Candis Edmonds of St. Joseph, MO, six grandchildren: Julie Winship, Elizabeth Paletz, Tres Vera, Brandon Cornelius, Edwin Cornelius, and Cerenity Edmonds, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the Mosaic Life Hospice for their kind and thoughtful service to our family.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 am on Monday, November 2, 2015 at Rupp Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Lionberger officiating. Clara Ellen (Pitts) Eiman
1938-2015

She entered Heaven’s gates on All Saints Day, Sunday November 1, 2015 after a very courageous battle against cancer for five 1/2 years. She married the loved of her life Robert L. Eiman, June 16, 1957 at St. James Catholic Church. Together, they shared 58 loving years. Clara had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church for the last 32 years. She was preceded in death by her parents Ora Pitts and Ruth Kuhnert Pitts Berkshire. She is survived her husband of the home, three loving children: son, Paul (Debbie) Eiman, Leisa (Doug) Mosser, Susan (Jim) Evans all of St. Joseph, MO, seven grandchildren: Lucas (Beth) Eiman, Mathew (Jenny) Eiman, Michael Eiman, Bryan (Shanna) Mosser, Megan (Jeff) Huff, Katy Evans-Manser, her birthday boy, Mitchell (Molly) Evans, step-grandson, Brandon Propes. Clara was a proud great-grandmother to Brayden, Kolby, and Ethan Eiman, Bentley and Brooklynn Mosser, Trenton Manser, Mason Huff, Jensen and Owen Eiman. Brother, Jim (Joan) Pitts, sisters, Bonnie Wickham, and Geraldine (Jim) Gillett, along with several, nieces and nephews. Upon graduating from Benton High School and Gard’s Business University, Clara worked at Swift & Co. as a comptroller operator. After being a stay-at-home mother for a few years, she went back to work for MFA insurance and Missouri Heart Association. In 1970 she joined the U.S. District Court as a Deputy Clerk for the Western District of Missouri. In 1998 she joyfully retired, having completed 28 years of Service. Clara and Bob joined the Good Sam’s Camping Club and greatly enjoyed traveling to every U.S. State and several Canadian Province’s as well as spending several warm winters in Arizona and Texas. Over the years she volunteered for the P.T. A., Girl Scouts of America, Sertoma Camp for the Deaf at Camp Marvin Hillyard, Camp Quality for children battling cancer, the local food kitchen, funeral dinners, and the prayer chain at her church. She was a proud Red Hat Diva. She loved spending time with family and her many, many friends, reading, cooking, and shopping. Clara truly knew that God blessed her graciously with a full and happy life.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10AM Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM Tuesday, with the family to receive friends until 8:00 PM at the Rupp Funeral Home. Father Christian Malewski Celebrant. Albert “AJ” Boos, Sr.
1923-2015

Boos, Albert AJ obitphoto After a courageous bout with cancer, Albert (AJ) Boos, Sr. passed peacefully into the Lord’s hands on October 24, 2015 at John Knox Village Hospice Care Center in Lee’s Summit.
AJ was born in Bendena, Kansas on November 10, 1923 to Albert and Adelia (Ennis) Boos.
He graduated from Benton High School in 1942 and enlisted in the Navy. He was a Radio Operator in the Air Corps and served in the Philippines Sea Frontier Communications Division. AJ was discharged from the Navy in October 1946 and he married Margaret (Doolan) Boos on November 20, 1946. They resided in Saint Joseph for many years where AJ began his career with Durwood Theaters (AMC). In 1969, A. J. transferred to Kansas City with Durwood. He and Margaret lived in Blue Springs for thirty happy years before their move to John Knox Village in 2007. AJ retired from AMC in 1989 as Corporate VP of Food and Concessions. During his 42 years with AMC he was also involved with the opening of their first multiplex theaters and the opening of AMC theaters in England.
He enjoyed old movies, dancing, playing card games, sports of all kinds (especially the Royals and the Chiefs), traveling and entertaining. AJ and Margaret spent a number of winters in Arizona during their retirement. He especially liked spending time with family, friends and neighbors and, of course, golfing. AJ was still playing 9 holes of golf at age 90. He will be remembered as a strong, loyal and loving husband, father and grandfather, and as a helpful and giving person who will be missed by all who have known and loved him.
AJ is survived by his son, Al (Carmella) Boos of Phoenix, AZ; granddaughter, Angela Boos Jackson of Arlington, VA; grandson, Chad (Deena) Boos of Apex, NC; step-grandsons, Jon (Rebecca) Stanley of Flower Mound, TX and Joel (Dawn) Stanley of Aurora, CO. He is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Atkinson of Mesa, Arizona and Susie Evans of Saint Joseph; as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; infant son, Michael; and sister, Barbara Cundiff.

She was born November 5, 1948 in St. Joseph, Missouri daughter of Jean & Ival Wheeler. She married James “Nick” Collier on February 9, 1980, in St. Joseph and they shared 35 together. She graduated from Central High School 1966, and worked at St. Joseph Convalescent Center as a Med Tech and Administrative Assistant.
She never met a stranger, she also loved Facebook, and camping at the Lewis & Clark Lake. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Lacy Lee Kretzer, brother, Billie Wheeler, and a sister, Judy Kuehner. Survivors include husband, Nick Collier of the home, three daughters, Kelly (Joe) Murphy, Jeannie (Phillip) Salcedo, Stacy (Tommy) Simpson, a son, Danny (Connie) Murphy all of St. Joseph, MO, 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, two brothers, Roland and Elvis Wheeler of Seattle, WA, and three sisters, Lona Fuston, Sheila Culver, and Jody Wheeler of St. Joseph, MO. niece, Diane Kuehner, as well as several other nieces and nephews, A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Friday at the Rupp Chapel, the family will receive friends from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Thursday at the Rupp Funeral Home. James B. Shannon

He was born August 25, 1939 in Gentry, Missouri.
James married Wilma Lou Miller in November 1980. She survives of the home.
He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He served on the S.S. Cass and was stationed at the US Naval Station in Long Beach, California.
James worked at Nestle-Carnation as a laborer where he retired after 30 + years. He was a modern day cowboy and adored his wife.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Basil and Zona May (Murphy) Shannon; son, Steven Shannon; and step-brother, Ralph Wilson.
Additional Survivors include children, Rhonda Abbate, Missouri, Russell Middaugh, Colorado, Candy Wiley, Missouri, Carla Hamilton, Missouri, Patrick Shannon, St. Joseph, Missouri and Jimmy Shannon, Jr., Cameron, Missouri; two sisters, Rosalee Pigg, St. Joseph, Missouri and Minola Hise, King City, Missouri; nineteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Gerald L. Duty
1943-2015

Duty, Gerald. obitphotoGerald L. Duty, 72, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, October 26, 2015, at his home with his family at his bedside.
Gerald was born June 19, 1943, in Los Angeles, California, to Clifton L. and Katherine (Hawkins) Duty.
He was a 1961 graduate of Lafayette High School then attended St. Joseph Junior College, and then he graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 1968.
After graduation, he taught for the St. Joseph School District for eight years. During that time, he coached football and wrestling at Lafayette. In May 1976, Gerald became the executive director of the St. Joseph Safety & Health Council; he was the third person to hold the title since the Council’s inception in 1935. While Executive Director, Gerald trained, consulted, and lectured for a wide variety of businesses and community organizations, including Crime Stoppers, The Juvenile Justice Coalition, The Buchanan County Sexual Assault Task Force, The Family Violence Council, The Buchanan County Emergency Planning Committee, The American Red Cross, The Community Drug Council, The Northwest Missouri Child Advocacy Center, Specialty Industries, Farm Safety Day, The Youth Alliance, Boy Scouts of America, and The United Way of Greater St. Joseph. He provided long-range planning and board training locally, and for groups and organizations throughout the United States.
Gerald held Advanced Safety Certification from the National Safety Council (NSC) and held various leadership positions with the NSC, Missouri Safety & Health Council (MSHC), Industrial Hygiene Environmental Conference & Exposition Planning Committee for the MSHC, and the Missouri Injury Control Advisory Committee. In 1978, Gerald was the leader of a committee to provide a positive impact on youth between ages 5 to 7. From this committee came the well-known child activity, Safety Town. He also participated in Kids in Safety Seats and Bicycle Safety Rodeo. Additionally, he presented docu-dramas to high school students involving alcohol related crash simulations. After 34 years of devoted service to the St. Joseph Safety & Health Council, Gerald retired in 2010.
Gerald was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and lover of nature. He shared many hunting trips with his family and friends. He canoed and camped to the Boundary Waters and other parts of Canada, Alaska, areas of the Pacific Ocean, and local rivers — especially the Missouri River. He loved traveling to the western areas of the United States, and he especially loved the Teton Mountains.
Gerald held a third-degree black belt in Kodokan Judo. He was a master-level combat pistol and police pistol competition shooter. He also held a Special Deputy Sherriff commission for several years with the Buchanan County Sherriff’s Department.
Gerald was past president of Rotary Club # 32 and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He also was a supporter of Ducks Unlimited and The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Eileen, of the home; 2 stepsons, Robert W. Nash (Jane), St. Joseph, Missouri, and Michael A. Nash (Erin), Kansas City, Missouri; and one grandson, Alex Nash. Gerald loved watching Alex grow up. He is also survived by his “Brothers”—best friends Jim Joy, Dutch Thomas, and Rick Beaulieu.

Daniel W. “Dan” Duncan
1928-2015

Duncan, Daniel. obitphotoDaniel W. “Dan” Duncan, 87, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, October 26, 2015 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, Missouri.
He was born July 3, 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Dan married Inez Windmeyer, daughter of the late Martin and Nellie Windmeyer of Highland, Kansas, on June 1, 1957.
Dan moved with his parents to St. Joseph where the family established the Iowa-Missouri Walnut Company. He held various executive roles at the company throughout his 40 year career.
Mr. Duncan graduated from Central High School in St. Joseph, Missouri, and attended the University of West Virginia and the University of Missouri, where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry. He proudly served in the United States Army as a Battalion Liaison Officer, earning the Army Occupation Medal in Germany after World War II.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, golfing and being active in the St. Joseph community. Mr. Duncan was appointed by Governor Kit Bond to the Missouri Highway Commission in 1973. He was a former president of the St. Joseph Country Club, former Chairman of the Kansas City Chapter of the Young Presidents’ Organization, and former member of the Benton Club and Kansas City River Club. He was an active parishioner and volunteer at the St. Joseph Cathedral.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Vance and Elizabeth Regan Duncan; his sister, Elizabeth Joan Duncan; and his brother, Jack Calvin Duncan.
Survivors include his wife, Inez; daughter, Julia Danelle Duncan; two sons, Robert Vance Duncan (Annette) of Lubbock, Texas and Drue W. Duncan (Elizabeth) of Columbia, Missouri; three grandchildren, Travis Wegenka, of St. Joseph, Missouri and Margaret “Meg” and Elizabeth “Libby” Duncan, of Columbia, Missouri.

Harvey Carl Shapley
1929-2015

Harvey Carl Shapley passed away Sunday, October 25, 2015. He was born July 18, 1929 in Wichita, Kansas. His parents were Orville F. and Ethyl Florence (Bain) Shapley.
He graduated from high school in Yates Center, Kansas. He proudly served in the Korean War. He completed a four year apprenticeship with the Santa Fe Railroad in Wichita, Kansas. He retired from the Santa Fe Railroad after 35 years of service. He played in the Wichita Santa Fe Shop golf and baseball teams. He enjoyed a lifetime membership in the Masonic 303 Albert Pike Lodge, Wichita, Kansas.
Harvey married Glenda Williams in 1957 in the Friends Faith. They were to enjoy 58 years of marriage. She resides in the home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Geraldine Stephens and Mildred L. Ramey; and step-son, Terry L. Williams.
Harvey is also survived by his stepson, Michael D. (Carol) Williams; three grandchildren, Rachel (Matt) Bloom, Sarah (Johann Murray), and Dr. John Williams; two great-grandchildren, Jaina Murray and Elizabeth Bloom.

Sandra Ann (Glauser) Wolfing

She was born September 2, 1940 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Sandra graduated from Central High School, Class of 1958 and attended St. Joseph Junior College.
She married Roger Wayne Wolfing on January 22, 1964 and he preceded her in death on June 21, 2014.
Sandy was the office manager at Midland Steel for 35 years, retiring in 2012. Prior to that she worked at St. Joseph Tobacco Co & Stuppy’s Greenhouse.
Sandy was a member of the Swiss Lodge Edelweiss Society and she enjoyed social card groups and activities with friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Martha (Mossimann) Glauser; husband of 51 years, Roger Wayne Wolfing; brothers, Erwin Glauser and Ernest Glauser, Jr.; and cousin, Robert “Red” Glauser.
Survivors include son, Bradley T. Wolfing and wife, Tetiana, St. Joseph, Missouri; daughter, Audrey G. Wolfing, Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; sister, Rhodie (Glauser) Schottel; newphews, Greg Glauser, Steve Schottel and Ty Glauser; niece, Stephanie Andrews; cousin, John Ludy, Cumberland, Wisconsin and numerous cousins and relatives in Switzerland and the United States.

Dorothy was of the Methodist Faith and a previous member of Business and Professional Women’s Association. Dorothy and Kenneth were founding members of the Heartland Art Association, where Dorothy was treasurer for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wiley and Elizabeth (Kolb) Smith; husband, Kenneth; one sister; two brothers; step-mother, Lillian (Kolb) Smith; and a nephew.

He was a cook in several area restaurants and played the drums for a couple of local bands “Cover Boys”, and “Sick be Twisted”, He enjoyed playing the drums, and spending time outdoors fishing and cooking, and spending time with his family. Richard was preceded in death by his step-son, TJ Cox. Rudy John Mejia, Jr., 65, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri left this world as we know it Thursday, October 22, 2015 surrounded by his children.
He was born March 30, 1950 to Rudy J., Sr. and Henrietta Mejia in St. Joseph, Missouri.
He graduated from the only high school in town, Lafayette, in 1968 where he was a four-sport letterman in football, basketball, track, and baseball. He was also president of his Jr. and Sr. class. After high school, he attended St. Joseph Jr. College and Missouri Western State College.
Rudy grew up in the North End and was a member at Marvin McMurry Methodist Church.
His early employment was at Sears where he was an automotive manager. He later moved to Oklahoma where he became a fixture with several major car dealerships in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City areas as a finance manager.
During the last fifteen years he spent time between Oklahoma City and St. Joseph, where he was employed at Anderson Ford and as a supervisor for St. Joe Frontier Casino. Being in St. Joseph allowed him to renew old acquaintances with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gerald Matthew Mejia; and sister-in-law, Gwynnie Mejia.

He served in the United States Army. During his life we worked for CFI trucking and D&B Agro Systems. Larry was a devoted grandfather and avid Chiefs fan. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and golf.

He was very active Mason, and he was a member of the King Hill Chapter #55 Eastern Star, Charity Zeredatha Lodge #189, Scottish Rite Valley of St. Joseph, York Rite, 43 year Member of the Moila Shrine Temple, Past President & Treasurer of the Moila Wrecking Crew, Past Treasurer of the Moila Misfits, member of the Moila Legion of Honor, Moila Country Club, and the Royal Order of Jesters. He was also a member of the Huffman Memorial United Methodist Church. Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Marlene J. Wilson and Sue Fenley, and his faithful companion dog, Bart. Clyde was born January 1, 1954 in Carthage, Missouri to John William and Bette Jean (Ellis) Elder, Sr. who preceded him in death. Clyde was a graduate of Winfield, Kansas High School, Southwest Baptist College (now University), Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Luther Rice Seminary with a Doctor of Ministry degree.
On January 10, 1976 Clyde was united in marriage to his childhood sweetheart, Muriel Ann Houghton, who survives the home. To this union they were blessed with three children; daughter, Andrea (Dallas) Denison of Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma; son, Nathaniel (Diane) Elder of Wentzville, Missouri; daughter, Jessica (Shaun) Agnew of St. Joseph; and four grandchildren, Ashton and Everly Elder, Jackson and Abigail Denison. All who survive him.
Clyde had served as the Director of Missions for the St. Joseph Baptist Association since 1996. He was a devoted member of McCarthy Baptist Church and served churches throughout Missouri and Kansas.
Clyde actively served the Missouri Baptist Convention as a consultant and member of numerous committees. One of his greatest honors was to serve as a trustee for Southwest Baptist University.
Other survivors include brothers, John (Cheryl) Elder, Jr. and Charles (Anne) Elder; sister, Jana Elder; uncles, Bill Elder and Bill Schellhorn; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Jonna was a graduate from Lafayette High School, class of 1987. She was a licensed massage therapist and owner at Healing Harmony. She loved baseball and worked concession at the Mustang games and was a huge Royals fan. Jonna enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family, especially her daughters. She was very involved with school functions, always lending a hand. She was a strong woman and had recently celebrated five years since her kidney transplant.
Jonna had many friends as people gravitated towards her caring and kind personality. She was an amazing woman, who was always positive and had a smile.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ronald S. Heath.

She graduated from Savannah High School, class of 1942 after which she attended Methodist Medical School of Nursing and received her license in 1946. Leanna practiced at the TBK Clinic for thirty years and later worked and retired from the State Hospital.
She enjoyed traveling, camping with her family and was a Royals fan. She also was a member of Cosby Zion Methodist Church.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Glenn Harr and Alvin Harr; and sister, Mable Kapp.
Survivors include children, Nancy Corbet and Brian Corbet (Tiffany); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elmer G. Myers, 97, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Saturday, October 17, 2015 at his residence.
He was born September 13, 1918 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Elmer attended Neely Elementary and later graduated from Central High School, Class of 1936.
He served in North Africa during World War II with the Army Air Corps. After the war he started several businesses, Elmer Myers Specialized Auto Service, St. Joseph Flying at Rosecrans and later worked at Wire Rope as their Chief Pilot. He was a fixture at Ashland United Methodist Church, attending 8:00 A.M. Sunday services without fail. He loved everything to do with cars and raised Arabian Horses as a hobby.
Elmer was a member of the Charity Zaredatha Lodge No. 189, A.F. & A.M., 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and Moila Shrine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William John “JW” Myers, Sr. and Ola (Whitmore) Myers; sisters, Ola Nicholson and Audrey Meyer; and former spouse, Mildred (Boyd) Myers.

Jake was born July 5, 1936 in Oregon, Missouri.
He graduated in 1954 from Forest City High in the top 10 of his class.
Jake proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Following the war he joined the St. Joseph Police Department retiring as a Lieutenant October 13, 1995. He continued his career at the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department, retiring, January 31, 2001. While with the police force he attended and graduated from Missouri Western with a degree in Criminal Justice. He also worked as security at Dillard’s.
He enjoyed traveling and nature, but most of all spending time with family.
Jake was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #359, Charter member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #3, member of the Marine Corp League and the 139th Air Guard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mabel (Rhodes) Rostock; siblings, Ferdinand “Ferd” Rostock, Abraham “Linc” Rostock, John Rostock, Pauline Kirschner, Hazel Grimes, and Margaret Ebnet.

She was a stay at home mother and later worked and retired from Headstart as a preschool educator. She was a very active member of Faith United Baptist Church. Janis was also a member of WOM at her church, Classy Cardinals Red Hat Club and Carnegie Culture Club. Her church and friends were an important part of her life. Her main love though was her family, especially her grandchildren.
Her kindness and compassion for others was without limits. She literally would give you the jacket off her back.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Forrest (Nichols) Crockett; husband of 34 years, Dennis; sister, Joyce Byrd; and niece, Amber Michaels.

James married Wilma Lou Miller in November 1980. She survives of the home.
He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He served on the S.S. Cass and was stationed at the US Naval Station in Long Beach, California.
James worked at Nestle-Carnation as a laborer where he retired after 30 + years. He was a modern day cowboy and adored his wife.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Basil and Zona May (Murphy) Shannon; son, Steven Shannon; and step-brother, Ralph Wilson.

He was born March 19, 1957, to Paul and Joyce Rother in Fairfax, Missouri. Greg was a lifelong Holt County resident and graduated in 1975 from Craig Missouri High School. He received his Bachelor degree in Animal Science from the University of Missouri in 1979.
On March 12, 1983 Greg married Pamela Linck and they were blessed with a son, Justin. They later divorced. In 1996, Greg married LaRaine Egbert and she preceded him in death in 2013.
Greg was a man of many talents. He enjoyed music, playing the guitar, harmonica and trumpet. He spoke many time of how he enjoyed singing the Halleluiah Chorus with the campus Lutheran Choir on Easter morning. He enjoyed creating anything with wood or metal and many people got to enjoy his culinary creations. He loved guns and hunting. In the last 10 months his main focus was on his grandson, Maverick, his pride and joy.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Mound City, Missouri, Beta Sigma Psi Lutheran Fraternity, Alpha Zeta Honorary Agriculture Academic Society and a life member of the NRA.
Gregory was preceded in death by his father, Paul E. Rother, wife, LaRaine Rother; and brother-in-law, Dale Voltmer.

He was born June 7, 1954 to Joe Warde Sr. and Bettye (Miles) Howles in Memphis, Tennessee. Joe married Norma “Scottie” Mabry-Howles on November 5, 1983. She survives in the home.
He graduated from University of Tennessee with a B.S. in Engineering. He also completed some graduate level classes.
Joe worked for Vlasic in Greenville, Mississippi, ConAgra in Louisiana, Friskies, Wilsey Foods, and MoDot all of St. Joseph.

She was born October 3, 1925 to Charles Leo and Lilly Rachel (West) Hendrix in Rosendale, Mo.
She graduated from Rosendale High School in 1942, and attended one year of business school in St Joseph, MO. She married the love of her life, Edward Rosenthal, Jr. on December 24, 1944. She and Ed raised turkeys for fifteen years, and then moved to Cosby, Mo, to take over the Cosby Hardware store, which they ran for about thirty years.
Virginia and Ed were active members of Cosby Faith UMC and Andrew County 4-H. In 2000, Virginia moved to New Virginia, IA to be near her daughter. Since her retirement, Virginia enjoyed traveling, gardening, walking, and sewing.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Juanita Epperson; and brothers, Audra Hendrix and Arthur “Jack” Hendrix.
Virginia has two children, a daughter Sharon Dunkin (Jerry) of New Virginia, IA and Michael Rosenthal (Rhonda) of Omaha, NE.; four grandchildren, Steve Dunkin (Pam) of New Virginia, IA, Scott Dunkin (Julie) of Ames, IA, Carolyn Heckman (Phillip) of Boone, IA and Michele Rosenthal of Omaha, NE.; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lorraine E. Poores, 95, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Monday, October 12, 2015 at a local healthcare facility surrounded by family and very good, kind caregivers after a long battle with cancer.
She was born June 12, 1920 to Edward M. McCann and Margaret M. (Boyer) McCann in Easton, Missouri.
Lorraine attended school in Easton and graduated from Benton High School at the age of 16. She later met and married Frank T. Poores Sr. in Los Angelos, California on January 8, 1941 who preceded her in death on May 30, 2003.
She worked in office retail at Einbenders, managed Holly’s Women’s Wear for several years, and then managed the Spiegel’s mail order facility for the eight years they were in St. Joseph. After a call from her pal, Jack Fleck, she worked as the office manager for four Buchanan County Sheriffs, and in the office at Keith Marsh Chevrolet, then retired.
Lorraine loved to cook, watch and cheer the Kansas City Royals, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Boston Celtics, and K.U. basketball (we forgive you, Mom).
She loved children, animals and was a Christian.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; and all of her siblings, of which she was the youngest.

Ernest was born to Don Thomas Kretzer and Susie Gertrude (Parker) Kretzer.
Ernest was a painter for many years in Colorado, and also farmed tobacco in Weston, Mo. He was a logger for Simpson’s Sawmill.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Susie Gertrude Kretzer; a granddaugher, Lacey Kretzer; a brother, Dallas Kretzer; and sister, Lois Leota Kretzer; and sister-in-law, Cindy Kretzer.

He was born July 20, 1955 in Cameron, MO, son of Shirley and Charles Bozarth. He was the owner and operator of Bozarth Texaco and the St. Joseph Telegraph newspaper. Mike was very involved in the community, serving as City Councilman for the City of St. Joseph, representing the South Side, as well as several service organizations such as the South St. Joseph Progressive Association. He was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church. Preceding him in death are his parents, and a brother, Charles A. Bozarth. Survivors include, two brothers, Greg (Shan) Bozarth, and Doug (Jamie) Bozarth of Saint Joseph, MO, sister, Sandra (Rob) Falter of Westphalia, MO, two nephews; James and Jared Bozarth, three nieces; Heather Sandlin, Brandi Smith, and Yoshi Su, several great nieces and nephews, and his lifelong friend, Becky Darr.

She was born September 22, 1945 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Cheryl graduated from Lafayette High School, class of 1963.
She married Darwin Thomas Sheets January 25, 1964 and he preceded her in death in 2012.
She worked as an Executive Administrative Assistant at the YMCA, retiring after 48 years. Cheryl fully believed in YMCA’s mission statement “To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.”
Mrs. Sheets was a member of Faith United Church.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, William and Gertrude (Enke) Surface; son, Jason Sheets; and father and mother-in-law, Glen and Alpha Sheets.
Survivors include her sister, E. “Kay” Wilson, St. Joseph; brother, John Surface (Janice), St. Joseph; sister-in-law, Mary Pepple, St. Joseph; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and her YMCA family.

She started her teaching career with the Savannah School District as a Remedial Reading teacher and retired in 2011 from the Union Star School District. She was an encouraging, positive influence for countless children through the years.
She attended the Cosby Zion United Methodist Church, where she served on various committees. Mary was a member of the Zion Cemetery Board serving as a secretary.
She enjoyed reading, playing the piano, researching family genealogy, and her flowers.

Rosemary was a Benton High School graduate, class of 1936. Afterward she attended and graduated from Platte Gard Business College.
She married Harvey M. DeVore and he preceded her in death in 1989.
Mrs. DeVore worked for 39 years at Swift & Company as the secretary for the plant manager, retiring in 1976.
She was a member of the PYKA, SEMO and Swift Girls Clubs. She was also a longtime member of Huffman Memorial United Methodist church.
Rosemary enjoyed needlepoint and trips to Taco Bell.
She was a wonderfully independent woman with a keen sense of humor. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Kathryn (Elkins) Baublits; and sister, Betty L. Baublits.
Survivors include numerous cousins.

Dishon, John. obitphoto John D. Dishon was born December 21, 1933 to Pearl Mae Lichliter and Byron Dishon in Troy, Kansas.
He moved to St. Joseph as a child and served in the Navy 1956–1957. John married Margot Brown in 1958. She preceded him in death in 2003. He moved to Kansas City 2004 and married Gaynel Sue Wayman on June 21, 2007.
He worked for the Highway Department in the 50’s as a surveyor, and for General Tire for several years before opening Dishon Tire in 1972. He operated it until 1998.
Active and well known in the tire industry, he served on the dealer counsel of Kelly Springfield Tire Company and Tire & Battery Corp. Board of Directors of the National Tire Dealers, president of Missouri Tire Dealers and on the Board of Directors of Tire Dealers for eight years.
John was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy Beason, brothers, Paul and Edgar Dishon.
He is survived by wife; stepdaughters, Virginia Davis (Rick)and Alexandra Welky (David); brother, Bill Dishon; sisters-in-law, Vicki Cantu, Becki Moore, Roxi James (Bill), Lori Brown (Chris Manville); Juli Crenshaw (Steve); brother-in-law, David Brown (Pamela); brother-in-law, Jon Carper (Linda); nephew, Don Sherman; and long-time friends, Roger Wayman and Russell Adair.

James B. “Brad” Cornelius
1921-2015

Cornelius, James. obitphoto James B. “Brad” Cornelius, 94, Easton, Missouri passed away Friday, October 2, 2015 at his home.
He was born January 30, 1921 in Easton, Missouri where he has been a lifelong resident.
He attended elementary school Class of 1934 in a one room school house for grades 1-8 and had the same teacher for the eight years. He then graduated from Central High School Class of 1938. Brad attended St. Joseph Junior College Class of 1940 for two years and graduated from the University of Missouri Class of 1942 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Public Administration.
Brad worked at the War Production Board in Washington, D.C and was a Junior Statistician.
Brad enlisted in the United States Coast Guard October 1942. He served on three different ships in the Atlantic Theater, Anti-Submarine and Convoy escort duty. He was Command airy officer of the United States Coast Guard Anemone when he was released to inactive duty at Staten Island New York with a rank of full Lieutenant in March of 1946.
As a civilian he returned to Missouri and married Lyndall Seiberling on February 22, 1947 in Mitchellville, Iowa. He engaged in dairy farming in the San Antonio Community, east of St. Joseph until he retired in 1989.
Mr. Cornelius was a member of Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church, the Masonic Lodge No. 37 in Stewartsville, Missouri, Hugh De Payens Commandery No.4, K.T. and Mitchell Chapter No. 14, R.A.M. and Moila Shrine of St. Joseph. He was also a volunteer with Hands of Hope Hospice for 24 years. Brad enjoyed his family, his garden, cracking walnuts and pecans, and raising big turnips.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mona (Lehmkuhl) Cornelius.
Survivors include: wife, Lyndall; three children, Dr. Jim Cornelius, Chicago, Illinois, Kaye L. She was born October 12, 1923 in a farmhouse in Austin Township of Cass County, Missouri.
Kathleen married G.M. Allen on December 7, 1947. He preceded her in death on January 13, 1999.
Although her major role has been that of homemaker, wife and mother, Kathleen has also distinguished herself by the outstanding service and leadership she has provided as Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and as Mother Advisor of the Rainbow Girls. She also served as Den Mother of the Cub Scouts and as a parent leader of the Brownies. She was also a member of the Foxy Lady Chapter of the Red Hat Society. She volunteered as a docent at the Missouri Governor’s Mansion.
Kathleen was a lifelong democrat and worked tirelessly for the Cass County Democrat Club. In 1988, she was invited to the Democrat National Convention in Atlanta, Georgia.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Carrie (Bowman) Clement; and her brother, Nelson Clement.

She is survived by two sons, Kenny Vandelinde of Saint Joseph, MO, John (Pamela) Vandlinde of Shawnee Mission, KS, three daughters, Mary Kate Vandelinde, Malachi Vandelinde, and Tialeigh O’Bannion, seven grandchildren; Christopher, Stephen, Amber, Jacob, Nickole, Elissa, and Shannel, and seven great grandchildren; Weston, Presley, Nathaniel, Nicholas, Carson, Brennan, and Stevie, a brother, Bob Wilkerson, and four sisters, Avis Forrester, Phyllis Stewart, Geneva Rollins, and Beverly (Ralph) Taylor. She will be cremated under the direction of the Rupp Funeral Home. A memorial and celebration of her life will be held at a later date at the Trinity United Brethern Church.
