Lorraine E. (Higgins) Houghton
1926-2015

Lorraine Ella Houghton, 88, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Friday, August 7, 2015 at Mosaic Life Care.
She was born December 19, 1926 to George and Florence Higgins in Faith, South Dakota.
Lorraine enjoyed playing the organ, hand quilting, being outdoors and tending to her flower gardens.
She was a member of the Kildare Ladies Club and the VFW Auxiliary. She was a devout catholic and attended Mary Immaculate Catholic Church while living in Gallatin. After retirement she moved to Florida and lived her religion as a hospital volunteer and participating in multiple church activities.
Lorraine was a housewife, having raised 6 children and later worked and retired from Stride Rite Shoes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 51 years, George; daughter, Virginia Brown; brothers, Dean and Gerald Higgins.

He was born January 17, 1946 to Edward and Joy Harden in Bon Air, Alabama.
James married Tamara Rose Lancaster on August 16, 1983.

He was born November 27, 1943 in San Diego, California son of Josephine & Ernest Leslie. He was to married Luella Leslie for 42 years prior to her passing. He graduated from Lafayette high school and attended the St. Joseph Junior College. He worked at Lowe’s department store and was a master carpenter. He enjoyed wood working and oil painting, and was a drummer in several are bands. He was a member of the Faith Valley Church of God. Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Luella Leslie, father, Ernest Edward Leslie. He is survived by mother, Josephine Leslie son, Timothy (Susan) Leslie of Saint Joseph, MO, daughter, Amy (Jay) Coursen of Springfield, MO, two other sons, Rob and Ed (Tina) Bieri, grandchildren; Casey, Holly, and Kelsie, and twelve other grandchildren, seven great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 3:00 pm at the Faith Valley Church of God. He will be cremated under the care and direction of the Rupp Funeral Home. Myrna Kathleen Clark
1921-2015

Myrna Kathleen Clark, 93, Country Club, Missouri passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Tuesday, August 4, 2015.
She was born December 24, 1921 to Clarence and Bessie Wilkerson in Helena, Missouri. She graduated from Helena High School and resided in Helena most of her life. However since the Fall of 2008, she resided in Country Club, MO with her family.
Myrna married George M. Clark on August 30, 1938. Together they owned and operated Clarks DX Service from 1938-1991.
She was a member of the Helena United Methodist Church, Helena Helpful Neighbors Club, and was involved in many community activities.
Myrna enjoyed hosting family gatherings, cooking, shopping, bowling, tending her flowers, and sending cards. The Clark home was filled with love, laughter, and the aroma of good food. Everyone was always welcome.
She was always patient, kind, and generous and was a wonderful Mother who created many fond memories. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Myrna was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years; parents; three brothers, Rex, Richard, and Marion Wilkerson; two sisters, Frances Swindell and Carolyn Chandler.
Survivors include daughters, Sandra K. Grider (Gerald), Lees Summit, MO, Cheryl L. Campbell (Terry), Country Club, MO; son, Terry S. Clark (Janiece), Savannah, MO; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Theora was a member of St. Francis Baptist Temple and former member of Grant AME Church and First Baptist Mt. Union. She was an exceptional mother, cook, and baker. An avid Royals fan and she loved Tiger Woods.

He graduated from Helen Davis school, and he enjoyed bowling and going to the casino, he also attended UCP for many years, and was active in special Olympics and the TOUCH program., he was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He married Susie Becker on January 30, 1995, she survives of the home. He was a warehouse supervisor at several area packing houses. He served two tours in the Army during the Korean War. He loved golfing and fishing and spending time with his kids and grandkids.Victor was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Simmons, mother, Mary “Vi” Viola Downey, step father Willie Downing, grandchild, Jamie Simmons, two brothers, Burl Dale, and Virgil Galen Simmons. Evelyn O’Neal
1931-2015

Evelyn (Rebel) O’Neal, 84, peacefully passed into eternal life on July 25, 2015 at her home in St. Joseph Mo. Evelyn was born on July 16, 1931, on the family farm near Craig, Missouri, to Ben and Leona (Haer) Rebel.
On March 27, 1955, she married Benton O’Neal at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at Craig, Missouri and moved to Coronado Island in California while Benton was enlisted in the Navy. They moved to Lincoln, Nebraska while Benton was in college then settled down in St. Joseph in 1960 to raise a family.
Evelyn loved being a mother and homemaker. Evelyn and Benton enjoyed traveling cross country during summer vacations with the children and spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks. Evelyn enjoyed reading, canning, decorating, and sewing -making beautiful clothing for her daughter and later her grandchildren. Evelyn had a gift for listening and caring for others, was a doting grandmother, and a dedicated friend.
She was a dedicated member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in St. Joseph for over fifty years, passing her legacy of strong faith in Christ onto her children and grandchildren.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband Benton in 1988. She will be deeply missed by her children: Elaine Hirter (Loren) Savannah, Kevin O’Neal (Kelly) Dallas, Texas; and by her grandchildren: Kristen O’Neal, Kyle O’Neal, and Erin Hirter. Evelyn is also survived by her sister, Lucille Hinchey, her brother, Orville Rebel, and many nieces and nephews.

Juanita Margaruite (Smith) Nienas
1918-2015

Nienas, Juanita obit photoJuanita Margaruite (Smith) Nienas was born on December 6, 1918 in St. Joseph, MO to Ida Victoria Caudell and William Ottis Smith. Juanita and her siblings Jesse Bennett, Thomas Jefferson, and Leota Evelyn were raised in St. Joseph. After graduating from Lafayette High School, Juanita practiced as a cosmetologist until WW II. Early in the war she met and was engaged to Homer W. Chinn, an Army Air Corps ferry pilot trainee at Rosecrans Airfield. Homer went missing while ferrying an Army airplane to Europe. After Homer’s death Juanita worked in Defense plants on the west coast. In Vancouver, Washington she met and married George Hodder Salter from Waukesha, Wisconsin. After the war, Juanita and George returned to the Waukesha, WI area. George worked as a wholesale representative and Juanita worked in ladies ready-to-wear. Juanita had no children but was a doting aunt to nieces and nephews in Wisconsin, Iowa and Missouri.
After George’s death in June, 1973 she married John Nienas of Brookfield, Wisconsin, an HVAC contractor, making their home in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Juanita continued to dote on her family that now included Johns daughter (Jessica), nieces and nephews. As representatives of the Heating and Cooling industry they traveled the world until John’s death in 1983. She was an active member of the VFW and American Legion, which she loved. She continued to reside in Wisconsin until 2000, when a broken hip made living alone impractical. Her niece, Laura Singer Bonham, convinced Juanita that she should return to St. Joseph and live with her family. Laura and Juanita became close with Laura caring for Juanita until Laura’s death in 2013. Laura’s family continued to care for Juanita until her recent death.
Juanita was an incredible woman who left an incredible sense of family, love and caring. Juanita treated each with birthday and Christmas cards with hand written notes. She will be remembered for her lovely happy style, enthusiasm for family gatherings and loving care to George’s parents.

In St. Joseph, nephew Larry Lee Singer, great-niece Teresa Ann Johnson, and great-great nephews Austin Johnson and Miles Johnson. In Waterloo, Iowa nephew Orlis Eugene Smith. In Olathe, Kansas niece Mary Beth Meeker-Pregon. Nieces and nephews from the Salter Family include: Marilyn Olson Hooper (the late William), Illinois, Earle Olson (the late Rosemary) Ohio, Camille Olson Carlson (Robert) Alaska, Dennis Olson (Mary) Nevada, Janice Watson (Al Lustig) Wisconsin, James Watson (Dottie) Wisconsin, Richard Watson (Christine) Virginia, the late Bruce Salter (Lea) Wisconsin, Donald Salter (the late Patricia) South Dakota, Charles Salter (Karen) Wisconsin and many great nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Thursday July 30th, 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory in St. Joseph. Friday, her family will accompany her to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A second visitation will be held 9:00-10:30 A.M. Saturday August 1, followed by the committal service at 10:30 A.M. at the Krause Funeral Home, 9000 Capital Drive, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He attended Lafayette High School, and worked at Altec as a Technician for over 20 years. On October 31, 199 he married LeaAnn Williams and she survives of the home. Tommy enjoyed Nascar, the Kansas City Chiefs, as well as music, hanging out with friends and family, but most especially spending time with his grandkids. Tommy was preceded in death by father, Robert Turner, mother, Edith Gooding, step father Clarence Gooding, two brothers Robert Turner, Jr., and Timmy Turner, step sister, Laura Conger. He was born March 5, 1942 to Purcell and Audrey (Chaney) Harrington in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He had 3 loves in his life, first and foremost, his family. He was their rock that held everything together. Next was his job at the National Records Center for Social Security and lastly was being outside hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Farris Anne Elizabeth Bechter (Johnson), 54 passed away Wednesday July 29th 2015 at her home in St. Joseph.
She was born December 16th 1960 to Martha and Paul Becther Sr. she was a lifelong north ender having attended Humbolt and Washington Elementary schools, Robidoux Middle School and graduating from Lafayette High School in 1979.
Farris Anne worked in the banking industry for several years but her passion was animals, particularly cats and she spent the last 25 years working at UPCO doing what she loved best.
She is survived by husband David C. Johnson of St. Joseph, sister Linda Whittington ( Jerry) of Amazonia, brother Paul Bechter Jr. of St. Joseph, the son in her heart Manny Martinez , friends to the end Sheila Ford & Jo Mama and numerous friends who loved her.
Farris Anne was preceded in death by her beloved mother Martha J Hardin and her feline companion Vivian.

She was born June 30, 1941 to Howard James Thomas and Charlotte Rose Thomas in Maryville, Missouri.
The third of four children she attended the Ursuline Academy in Paola, Kansas.
Sydney was preceded in her death by her sister, Ann Kathryn Grace of Phoenix, Arizona; and her brother, James Thomas of Houston, Texas.
Survivors include her brother, Patrick Thomas of Austin, Texas; and her many nieces and nephews who will miss her strong will, biting humor, and wit.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to all of the nurses and aids who came into their lives at the Friendship Village Health Center.

He had great faith in God and loved reading God’s word. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and by all who knew and loved him. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, St. Joseph, MO. Redgy was preceded in death by father, J.W. Mariott, and a sister, Karen Sue Oliva. Survivors include, mother, Jean Marriott, son, T. J. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, camping, watching TV, and movies, and was baptized at the Carnegie Baptist Church. Wayne was preceded in death by maternal grand parents, Eugene and Clara Mae Blankenship. Survivors include, wife, Candice Cunningham of Rushville, MO, father, Morris “David” Cunningham, mother, Barbara (Blankenship) Baber both of Saint Joseph, MO, two uncles, Dale (Mary) Blankenship, and JR Blankenship, a great uncle, Delbert Gentzell, two half sisters, Kimberlee Neukam and Melisa McKale.

Harvey Johnson
1929-2015

Johnson, Harvey PhotoHarvey Wayne Johnson, Jr. passed away July 15 at home in St. Joseph, Missouri. He was born August 2, 1929 to Harvey and Sarah (Patterson) Johnson.
He was a Benton graduate and member of the R.O.T.C. He married Mildred Lucile Martin on September 17, 1950. He served as a cook in the USMC during the Korean Conflict. Harvey worked as a meat cutter and was meat and produce buyer for Green Hills Markets. He eventually opened his own meat market in Lodi, California.
Harvey enjoyed many activities and was a referee for boxing matches, bowling on leagues, hunting, tying flies, and especially fishing. He fished all over northern California, Alaska, Arkansas, and southern Missouri. He recruited many people and family members to go along with him fishing, especially Jack Johnson, his brother, Jerry Strong, his cousin and Neil Sadler, his high school friend. Harvey volunteered for the Red Cross, working many disasters and many hours in Florida, Texas, California, and here in St. Joseph earning the Clara Barton Award in 2007. He participated in the Marine Corps League Honor Guard and was a long time member of the Moila Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by Mildred L. (Martin) Johnson, wife and partner of 64 ¾ years; daughter, Linda K. Karches (Bill), California; son, Charles M. Johnson III (Sandy), Nevada; brother, Jack V. Johnson, California; sisters, Nancy L. Clark, California and Judith L. Keene, Arizona; grandchildren, Nicolas and Christina Zapiain, California, Martin and Michelle Zapiain, California, and Veronica Rogers, California; 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, second cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Farewell Services 1:00 P.M.
