Timothy “Tim” King

Timothy “Tim” King, 61, of Elwood, Kansas died at his home Wednesday, June 12, 2019.

Tim was born on September 6, 1957 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Gene and Carol (Ragsdale) King. He was a lifelong resident of Elwood and worked at Purina Mills in St. Joseph, Missouri.

He married Pam Carr on June 17, 1989 in St. Joseph, Missouri. She survives of the home. Tim was preceded in death by his brother, Terry King.

Additional survivors include his son, Jacob King of the home.

and his loyal companions; Buster and Shiloh of the home

Tim’s request was to cremated.

There will be a Memorial Visitation: Saturday, June 15, 2019 from 2-4 pm, at the Harman Rohde Funeral Home in Wathena, Kansas.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the St. Joseph Animal Shelter.

Marian Eileen Whitenack (Fowler)

Marian Eileen Whitenack, 92 of Atchison, KS, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Medicalodge of Atchison.

At Marian’s request, no formal services are planned. Marian has been cremated under the direction of Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to UNICEF, the ASPCA or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.beckerdyer.com.

Marian was born January 19, 1927 in Atchison, KS, the daughter of C.H. and Lela (Heater) Fowler. She married Bernard Whitenack and moved to New York. They later divorced. Marian and her daughters moved back to Atchison in 1964. She worked her whole life and held several different job positions including bank teller at The City National Bank, a clerk at The Youth Center in Atchison and The Kansas Arts Commission in Topeka before retiring from Ft Leavenworth in 1992. Marian was a member of the Cummings Christian Church. She was a wonderful, loving and devoted mother and will be sadly missed. She enjoyed spending time with her family and caring for her rescue dogs. She also enjoyed reading, shopping with her daughter and watching the KC Royals.

Survivors include her two daughters, Sharon Hall, Atchison, KS, Nancy and Cliff Gregory, Littleton, CO, a brother Charles and Laverne Fowler, Jr., Nortonville, KS, two sisters, Barbara Lively, Leavenworth KS, and Kay Domann, Lawrence, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Joan Basye and Charlene Latzke.

Dorothy May Haynes

Dorothy May Haynes 88, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019 at a Saint Joseph, MO health care center.

She was born June 17, 1930 in Avalon, MO, daughter of the late Lenora and Elmer Cain. She married Marvin Haynes on August 7, 1950 and they have shared 68 years of marriage together. She worked at Herman’s drug store where she met Marvin, then was a homemaker, who loved watching the Royals ballgames, game shows and General Hospital with her husband.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, and grandson, Bradley Walker.

Survivors include, husband, Marvin Haynes of the home, daughters: Barbara Shoemaker (Brad -deceased) and Karen (Anthony) Mejia, brothers: Gary (Ida) Cain of Bolivar, MO, and Russell (Alice Ann) Cain, Apache Junction, AZ, grandsons: Jerry Walker, Nicholas Mejia, and Tyler Mejia, 6 great grandson and 3 great grand daughters.

Funeral services: 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Rupp Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Monday, June 17, 2019 at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Mount Auburn Cemetery. Online condolence and obituary at www.ruppfuneral.com.

Robert Davis, Sr.

Robert L. “Bob” Davis, Sr., 93, St. Joseph, passed away June 13, 2019.

Mr. and Mrs. Davis enjoyed being camp ground hosts for 16 years at Lewis and Clark State Park. Mr. Davis was in the United States Army and a World War II veteran. Mr. Davis was employed at Swift’s.

Preceded in death by: parents, wife Darlene (2011), and granddaughter Stacia Wegenka (1974).

Survivors: children, Sharon Wegenka (James), Jimmie L. Davis, Sr., Virginia Stehr (John), Robert L. Davis, Jr. (Karen); 9 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.

Services: Tuesday, June 18 1:00 PM at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel in St. Joseph. Visitation: Monday, June 17, 2019 12:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at our chapel. Interment: Ashland Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the funeral home to defray funeral expenses.

Gary L. Edie

Gary L. Edie, 61, of St. Joseph, MO, died unexpectedly at his home, Thursday, June 13, 2019.

Gary was born in St. Joseph, June 15, 1957, one of five children born to Kenneth Archer and Esther Louise Rodecap Edie. He grew up at White Cloud where he attended school, later graduating from Highland High School. A few years after graduating, he started working for Union Pacific Railroad, from 1978 until he retired as a brakeman in 2017, after 39 years of service. He lived in Falls City, Nebraska a few years, before moving to St. Joseph to make his home where he has lived for 20 years.

Gary enjoyed being outside, and would visit the farm near White Cloud as often as he could, sometimes twice a week. That being said, he enjoyed anything to do with old tractors: displays, shows, etc.

He married Mary Kay Dougherty for 8 years before they divorced in 1984.

Survivors include his children: Jason Edie (Sara) of Wamego, Josie Bomar of Omaha, Nebraska.; siblings: Kenneth Edie of Robinson, Ronnie Edie of White Cloud, Mary Scott of Hiawatha, Kathy Leeper of White Cloud; and three grandchildren: Trenton, Amarya, and Gage.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Brenda Trainer.

Friends may call at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland after 12 noon Monday where the family will meet from 6 until 7 that evening.

Family & Friends will meet at the funeral home by 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, to go in procession to Olive Branch Cemetery in White Cloud where graveside services follow at 1 p.m.

Dorothy J. Moore

Dorothy J. Moore, 96, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019.

She was born May 27, 1923 in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Dorothy married Robert Curtis Moore August 22, 1942. He preceded her in death July 24, 2002.
She was a member of the Savannah Baptist Church. Dorothy attended country schools through 8th grade, then graduated from Savannah High School in 1940. After raising her family Dorothy purchased Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio in 1971 and managed it until retiring in 1998.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Michael Lee Moore; parents, Clyde and Florence (Barnes) Miller, brother; Donald Lee Miller, great-granddaughter; Michaela Moore, grandson; Ryan Newcomer.

Survivors include children, Toni Newcomer (Robert), Michael C. Moore (Tanya), Robert Douglas Moore(Verena), and Steven A. Moore (Rita); along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Farewell Services 10:00 A.M. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Donald M. Gudenkauf

Donald M. Gudenkauf, 81, of Onaga, died Thursday, June 13, 2019 at the Community Hospital in Onaga.

He was born April 10, 1938 on the farm at Corning, the son of Maurice and Lena Boeding Gudenkauf. He graduated from Corning High School in 1956 and served in the U.S. Army Reserve.

From about 1960 until 1966 he managed the Farmers Coop at Corning, and from 1966 to 1978 he managed the Farmers Coop at Onaga. He was then appointed General Manager of the Manhattan Coop Association and worked there for about twenty-two years until his retirement in 1999. He was also a farmer and a stockman.

He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Onaga and had served on the Parish Council at the church. He was also a member of the Onaga Lions Club, had served on the Kansas Farm Service Board, and while in Manhattan, he helped form an insurance pool for Coops.

He married Carroll Jeanneret on August 2, 1958 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in the Coal Creek Community. She survives, of the home.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Gudenkauf.

Other survivors include three sons, Donnie Dean Gudenkauf, Onaga, Dennis Gudenkauf (Emma), Havensville, and Tim Gudenkauf (Julie), McPherson; one daughter, Debbie Lindenmuth (Kelly), Springdale, AR; two brothers, Roger Gudenkauf, Denver, CO and Kenny Gudenkauf, Topeka; one sister, Mary Ellen Rusche, Seneca; eight grandchildren, Chad, Anna, Kara, Eric, Adam, Shelby, Shawnae and Brandon, and five great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15th at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, south of Onaga. Don will lie in state until 4:00 p.m. Friday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga. He will lie in state after 5:00 p.m. at the church where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Onaga Ball Association, and may be sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Ernest Sylvester Wheeler

Ernest Wheeler, 89, of Tuskahoma, OK, formerly of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at his daughters home in Arlington, Texas.  Service arrangements are pending at the Rupp Funeral Home.

Roy Calvin Spangler

Roy Calvin Spangler, 79, of St. Joseph, passed away, June 11, 2019.

He was born July 28, 1939 to Lucille and John Spangler. He retired from the Missouri State Hospital, Food Service Department after 37 years. Calvin enjoyed the local baseball teams, including the Blacksnakes, Saints and Mustangs. Calvin was a charter member of Eureka Valley Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death are his parents and sister, Dolores Spangler.

Survivors include longtime friend, Bob Myers of Tina, MO.

Visitation: 6 to 8 PM Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Rupp Funeral Home. Graveside Service and Interment: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Bob Myers officiating. Memorials: Eureka Valley Baptist Church.

Linda Lou Nolan

Linda Lou Bennington Nolan was born in St Joseph, Missouri on March 18, 1952 to Ralph and Fern Bennington. She was welcomed to this world as a much wanted gift, not only by her parents but also by her 11 year old sister, Annette Bennington, who desperately wanted a sibling.

As a child of only 9, Linda experienced the death of her father.

Linda attended RockPort elementary school and was a member of the 4H club. At Rock Port High school she was a member of the Pep Club as well as a participant in other school activities. She graduated from Rock Port High in 1970 and attended the University of Missouri at Columbia in 1970-1971 and Missouri Western in 1971-1972. Then Linda took a job with Dr. Rost of St. Joseph. Linda married her “soul mate” Steve Nolan in 1975 and gave birth on August 5, 1976 to their much loved daughter Amanda Catherine. Linda was equally dedicated to taking care of her young daughter and of her elderly mother who also preceded her in death.

Linda called herself a “bleeding heart liberal” and a political activist dedicated to helping others. In 2007-2008 Linda was tireless in her support of Barack Obama. She was proud to be a delegate at the Democratic National Convention and to attend Obama’s inauguration in Washington. She campaigned for Obama again in 2012. Linda loved helping others and had many friends.

She also loved all animals and called her pets “Fur babies.” She also enjoyed dog sitting Amanda’s dog while she worked.

A visitation will be held at the Rupp Funeral Home Friday from 6-8 pm friday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Attendees are invited to bring snapshots of themselves with Linda as these will be put in an album documenting Linda’s wealth in friendships.
