He was born August 4, 1938 in Union Star, Missouri.
Jerry married Alice Marshall on June 23, 2007.
He was a graduate of Union Star High School Class of 1956 and worked in construction and as a professional brick mason.
Jerry enjoyed fishing, hunting and attending all of his grandchildren?s activities. He also liked to raise calves. Jerry and Alice enjoyed many road trips.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlin and Hazel (Adams) Baker; first wife, Bobbie Lyon; infant brother, Donald Baker; grandson, Dusty Ray Baker; and sons, Jeff and Ronnie Marshall.

She was born August 19, 1927 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Marjorie married Wesley Chancey in 1942. He preceded her in death in 1983, to this marriage five children were born. She then married Clayton Gilmore June 3, 1995. He preceded her in death on February 14, 2009.
She worked as a beautician for ten years and then as a caregiver for several years at Sisters Hospital and Carriage Square. Her kids and grandkids were most important to her.
Mrs. Gilmore was also preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Della (Cline) Walters; sons, Don Wesley (Margot Lyon) Chancey and Steven L. Chancey; great-grandson, Chad Kendall; sisters, Cleva Yarger and Helen Poe; and brothers, James Walters and Don Walters.

Mylin “Mickey” Charles, Jr. 85, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Thursday April 23, 2015 at his home in Saint Joseph. He was born January 27, 1930 in Reading, PA, son of Lillian & Mylin Charles Sr. He worked for Santa Fe Railroad for many years. He served in the Navy. His joy was being around kids, especially his grandchildren. He loved watching baseball, wrestling, and Dr. Phil. He also loved cheese. Mylin was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by companion, Jo Anne Grunert of the home, son, Matthew (Ashley) Grunert of Saint Joseph, MO, 3 grandchildren, Haden, Logan & Boston Grunert, his dog, Mr. Wiggles, and his great friend, William L. Mitchel was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Robert Caw, a nephew, Ryley Pearl, and his grandmother, Margie Farrow, He is survived by wife, Lori D. Caw of the home, MO, mother, Carol Caw of St. Joseph, MO, three daughters, Mitchele S. (Thaddeus) Hunt, St. Joseph, MO, Brandi C. (David) Ringer of Blue Springs, MO, and Faith E. Betty Jane Snyder
(June 15, 1937 – April 20, 2015)

Wathena, KS. – Betty Jane (Formally Blake) Snyder was born June 15, 1937 to George Leo McKee and Mary Julia (Middleton) McKee. Her mother died when she was three years old and she was taken in as a foster child by Truman and Geneva Carr of Maryville, MO. who raised her as their own. Geneva’s sister, Elsie and Oscar Horton took Betty’s younger brother Francis McKee, and raised him as their own.

Betty married to Merle Blake from New Market, IA from 1954 to 1975 and during this time, they had 5 children and lived in southwest Iowa and northwest Missouri. Later in life, she was married to Homer Snyder and lived in Elwood, KS. and the St. Joseph, MO. area the rest of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary McKee and her foster parents, Truman and Geneva Carr, a daughter, Leslie Jean Blake in 1958, brother, Frances McKee, foster brother, Wayne Carr and foster sister, Roma Carr.
She is survived by her foster brothers and sisters, Manfred, Twila, Henry, Marjorie, Wilma, Barbara, Bill and Rick and her sons, Sid Blake (Marcy), Avoca, IA, George Blake (Cathy), Elwood, KS. Dan Blake (Jan), Shambaugh, IA and Scott Blake, King City, MO. and step niece and nephew that she raised from infancy, David and Tara Hendricks, as foster children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Helen “Jean” Johnson

TROY, KANSAS – Helen “Jean” (Twombly) Johnson 86, died Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the Highland Care Center, Highland, Kansas.

Jean was born December 11, 1928 in Fanning, Kansas and attended grade school there. She graduated high school at Sparks, Kansas.

Jean was married to Conrad F. Johnson October 6, 1946. From this union were identical twin boys, Greg and Kreg, and a daughter Mary Jean.

Jean returned to school at HCC and later to Peru State College receiving her B.S.E. with honors. She received her Masters degree in library science from Emporia State University. She taught at Sabetha, Ks. for five years and was school librarian for 25 yrs. before retiring and moving to Troy. Jean was active in O.E.S. where she was Worthy Grand Matron of KS serving as a member for over 50 yrs. She was active in numerous clubs, organizations and served on local & state library boards.

Preceding her in death were her husband Conrad F. Johnson, parents Wm. E. Twombly and Wilma (Taylor) Twombly; three brothers: Samuel, George and David Twombly, a sister Wilma (Twombly) Saunders and a daughter-in-law Carol (Mickelson) Johnson.

Survivors: Sons; Greg (Mary Ellen), Kreg (Carolynn) Johnson; daughter, Mary Jean (David) Kuester, five grandchildren, Heather Kuester, Justin Johnson, Brad Johnson, Megan Johnson and Bret Johnson; six great-grandchildren, Braeden Johnson, Brody Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, Austin Cregan, Caitlyn Cregan and Markus Kuester. Three brothers; Leonard Twombly, Bill Twombly and Bob Twombly all of Highland, Ks. and a sister Ruth Turner of Kansas City area. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Dale was born on January 10, 1938 in Monitor, Washington to Frank & Irene (Johnston) Weber.

He is a member of the First Baptist Church in Wathena, Kansas. Dale was a farmer, truck driver & owner/operator of the South Side Car Wash in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Dale married Patricia Sharp on June 2, 1962 at the Burr Oak Baptist Church. She survives of the home. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, son, James Weber & a nephew, Daniel Weber.

She was born December 12, 1955 to Leonard and Rowena (Russell) Parks in Nampa, Idaho.
She worked as a nannie on the East Coast before moving to St. Joseph fifteen years ago.
Bonnie made beautiful cross stitches and enjoyed sewing and reading. She also loved flowers and birds.
Miss Parks attended the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Days Saints.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and nephew, Adam Spaeth.
Survivors include her siblings, Marie Hull, Lloyd Parks, Cathrin Hales (Jay), Glenn Parks, Ramona Larsen (Galen), Sharon Spaeth (Rick), Paul Parks (Jerilyn) and Rowena Parks; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eva Mae Johnson Burke, 98, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015 at a local healthcare facility.
She was born September 28, 1916 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Eva Mae graduated from Benton High School in 1935. She was a homemaker and had previously worked at Quaker Oats. She was a member of Brookdale Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir, attended Circle Meetings and participated in Bible Study classes. Eva Mae enjoyed playing piano, knitting, garage sale shopping and dancing with Marvin, but above all, she cherished spending time with her family.
Mrs. Burke was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Martha (Conley) Johnson; her husband of 68 years and her childhood sweetheart, Marvin; six sisters; and grandchild, Christopher Steele.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia G. Steele (Fred), Raytown, Missouri, Connie Burke Hager, St. Joseph, Missouri and Mary Beth Mitchell (Bill), Huntsville, Alabama; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Steele, Shelly Scott (Joey), Jennifer Davin (Doug), Bill Mitchell (Joleen), Heather Rivera (Matthew) and Jonah Mitchell (Leslie); fifteen great-grandchildren, Nicole Sutton (Cody), Tyson Martin, Evan and Hannah Steele, Kyle and Kristen Davin, Madison Clark, Emma, Parker, Gabriel and Riley Mitchell, Cody and Christian Hecker, Dakotah Shelton and Dalton Rivera; one great-great-granddaughter, EmmaJo Sutton; and several nieces and nephews.

She belonged to Community of Christ Church and the Cactus Society of Kansas City.
Charlotte retired from Silgan Containers after 29 years in 2006.

She was a prim and proper lady. Dorothy attended Rushville Christian Church. She enjoyed shopping and loved dogs, especially her bulldog, Rocky.
Mrs. Sloan was also preceded in death by her parents, John and Mae (Sparks) Wigington; brother, Albert Wigington; and sister, Mildred Louise Hickman.

Helen Beery Underwood, 91, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Friday, March 27, 2015 at Diversicare, her home for over eight years.
She was born April 21, 1923 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Helen married Gene Underwood on October 4, 1946.
She attended Grace Evangelical Church. Helen loved to travel and drink hot tea with many friends. She served the St. Joseph School District for over 20 years as secretary to the Board and Superintendent.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Bessie (Stakey) Beery; husband; sons, Charles Wayne and Roger Underwood.
Survivors include: special friends, Roger and Sherri Wittler; grandsons, Gene and Alex; granddaughter, Cynthia; former daughter-in-law, Nancy Brooks, all of Columbia, Missouri; guardian, Don Weston; and many other friends and colleagues.

Thomas Henry Gorry, 79, Maryville, Missouri, formerly of Due West, South Carolina, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at his daughter’s home in Maryville.

Thomas (Tom) was born September 9, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York to Thomas Henry Gorry and Christine (Steel) Gorry. He and Odette Nahas Gorry were married in Brooklyn, NY January 22, 1961.

Tom served his country with the National Guard Reserves in Fort Dix, NJ. After earning his B.S. from City College of New York, he continued his education at Purdue University, earning his PhD. From there, he became a professor of psychology at Northern Illinois University. His academic work took him all over the world. Over the course of a long career, he was a professor at the American University of Beirut, the College of the South, and ultimately Erskine College in Due West, SC. Due West became his home. Throughout his travels, he forged great friendships and left lasting impacts on those around him.

Preceding him in death were his beloved wife, Odette Gorry, his parents and his older sister, Thomasine Walton. Tom and Odette were married for nearly 40 years until they were parted by her untimely death in 1999. To his dying day and now in eternity, he loved only her.

Tom is survived by his two daughters Lisa Gorry DiStefano, M.D.,
Maryville, MO; Thomasine Gorry Shagena, M.D., Philadelphia. Pennsylvania (best of friends and inseparable sisters) two sons-in-law: Thomas DiStefano, M.D. Maryville and Mark Shagena, Philadelphia; four grandchildren Thomas David and James Christopher DiStefano, Maryville and Elizabeth Odette and John Thomas Shagena, Philadelphia; and a sister Beverly Scollay of New Jersey.

Visitation for Tom will was held  Friday, April 17, 2015 at Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, April 18th, also at the funeral home.

Burial in Long Cane Cemetery, Abbeville, South Carolina.

He graduated from Benton High School 1977, then went to work for Guy’s Potato Chips for several years, and then he worked at Johnson Controls as a Welder. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and Mizzou Tigers. He loved to sing and dance. He was a member of Sons of the American Legion Squadron #287 of Savannah, participated in the Promise Keepers of America and was a member of Grace Evangelical Church. Mark was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by two daughter, Marinda Baker, and Hannah Baker, and a son, Ethan Baker all of Saint Joseph, MO, a brother, Mike (Carol) Baker of Savannah, MO, former wife and mother of the children, Brenda Howard of Springfield, MO, nephews, Adam and Travis Baker both of Kansas City, MO as well as several other nieces and nephews. The family will received friends from Monday at the Grace Evangelical, with a Celebration of life following. He has been cremated under the care and direction of the Rupp Funeral Home. Lou Ella Tyler 91, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015 in a Savannah, MO health care center. She was born February 9, 1924 in Weston, MO, daughter of Ida and Claude Kerns. She retired from Atchison Leather Products after 17 years of service, and she was also a Homemaker and a loving mother. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, who had many friends and will be missed by all who knew her. The family appreciates all the loving care provided by the Staff’s at Laverna Village and Asera Care Hospice for our mother. Lou Ella was a member of the Rushville Christian Church. Preceded her in death are; husband, Melvin Tyler, her parents, daughter, Judith Ann Tyler, two brothers, William and Ernest Kerns, five sisters, Grace Griffith, Ethel Griffith, Ruth Searcy, Mary Edna Griffith, and Katherine Searcy, a son in law, Charles Ross, and grandson, Patrick Jones. Survivors include, two sons, Melvin “Tim” (Robin) Tyler, Daniel “Bobby” Tyler of St. Joseph, MO, two daughters, Connie L. Ross of Saint Joseph, MO, and Claudia “Tootie” (Mike) Jones of Haysville, KS, 14 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and her cat, Socks.

Funeral services will were conducted at 10:30 am on Monday, April 20, 2015 at Rupp Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Hoover officiating. She graduated from Central High school, and worked at Citadel health care as a Nurse Aide. She enjoyed drawing pictures, working word search puzzles and playing board games. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Robert, Scott, Steven and Joey Fattig. ST. JOSEPH – Richard Lawrence Broce 81, passed away Saturday March 14, at the home of his daugther in St. Joseph.
He was born June 15, 1933 in Halls, Mo., son of Ann and Carl Broce. He worked for Andrew County as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Union Local #518 Operators Cement Mason’s Union International.

ST. JOSEPH – James “Jim” Eugene Umphrey, 73, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2015 at his home.
He was born July 31, 1941 in Decatur, Al., son of Ila and Hugo Umphrey. He married Dorothy Keith on January 29, 1966. He served in the Army and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired from St. Joseph Light & Power as a Head Operator of the Steam Plant.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, and stunt kite flying. He was a lifetime member of VFW, and a member of the Poplar Baptist Church, Warsaw, MO.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include wife, Dorothy Jane Umphrey of the home; two sons, Jim (Lisa) Umphrey of Newtown, Mo., and Michael (Nicole) Umphrey of Sturgin, Mo.; two grandsons, Cody and Kaleb; a granddaughter, Kaylee; and a brother, Hugo Humphrey of Tecumseh, Mich.

ST. JOSEPH – Bill Reynolds, 96, formerly of Stewartsville, Mo., passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015 at a local healthcare facility.
He was born October 2, 1918 in Dearborn, Mo.
Bill married Celia “Tillie” Ann Joslin on July 23, 1937 in Savannah, Mo., and they just recently celebrated their 77th wedding anniversary.
He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a forty year resident of Stewartsville, where he had a farm. Bill also worked as a butcher at Swift for 22 years. Mr. Reynolds was a member of American Legion Post #508 and was a long time member of Patee Park Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anson and Mamie (Blizzard) Reynolds; two sons, Larry Dale Reynolds and Bill Reynolds; one brother; and two sisters.

ST. JOSEPH – Charles William Schurman, 89, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015 at a local hospital.
Charles was born July 12, 1925 in Horton, Kan., to William and Ida Larson Schurman. His youth years were spent in the Effingham, Kan., area, where he graduated from Atchison County Community High School in Effingham.
In 1943, he enlisted in the US Navy. During his enlistment he served on the USS Rutland. On March 18, 1951, he married Doris Frame in Cummings, Kan., who preceded him in death in 1985. In 1957, he moved to St. Joseph where he resided most of his life. He was a member of First Lutheran Church. Charles worked for Crouch Brothers as a Truck Driver for many years. Charles was an avid collector. He was a member of Mid-American Model A Club and Freedom of the Road Riders. He also enjoyed volunteering his time working at Camp Quality, the First Lutheran Church Food Pantry and transporting Veterans to the VA Hospital in Leavenworth, Kan.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris; a son, Ronald Schurman; siblings, John Schurman, Dick Schurman, Janet Crawford and Dale Schurman.

She was a homemaker, Division Sales Manager for Portrait Studio for seventeen years and a Realtor in St. Joseph, for ten years before retiring. After retirement Margaret continued to stay busy. She was an officer in Myrna Manor North Homes Assoc., member of Ladies Edelweiss Swiss Society and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Altar Society. Margaret was a parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband.

ST. JOSEPH – Janet S. Welch-Marshall, 69, passed away on March 7, 2015, at Mosaic Hospital following a brief but serious illness.
Janet was born in St. Joseph, on Nov. 8, 1945, to Robert F. and Alice J. (Evans) Welch. She grew up in the South Park area, where she enjoyed family and church activities, especially picnics and family vacations.
Following graduation from Northwest Missouri State University, Janet began her career as a school teacher at Hyde Park Elementary, where she taught for 30 years. She was a popular and well-respected teacher, who made a positive impact on the lives of hundreds of children. After retiring, she spent time pursuing her interests in travel and genealogy, and she authored several books.
In 2002, Janet married the love of her life, Kenneth Marshall. Their years together were some of the happiest of her life.
Janet was a member of South Park United Methodist Church, Hyde School’s Retired Teachers Association, and Northwest Missouri Genealogy Society. She was a past member of the Missouri State Teachers Association and the Eugene Field Chapter of the ABWA.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and an infant sister, Mary Alice.
She is survived by her brother, Robert (Janet) Welch; step-son Rick (Laurie) Marshall; step-daughter, Debbie Marshall Parnacott; five step-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; two very close friends, Rose King and Pam Hope; and many other friends and family members.

He was a life long farmer and loved his profession. He also loved his church life and enjoyed Sunday school program. T.C. was active in the community serving on the Halls levy district board, and the Lake Contrary School Board. He was a member of the Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church.

Bill married Barbara Sharitz on April 8, 1961. She preceded him in death on March 17, 1992.
He was a truck driver with Setiz Foods for thirty-five years.

ST. JOSEPH – James “Jim” Maxwell Young, 85, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Mosaic Life Care.
He was born March 6, 1929 in St. Joseph.
Jim married Ruth W. Ingram in January 1951. She survives of the home.
He was a graduate of Benton High School class of 1947 and was captain of the football team where he led his team to the Peanut Bowl. Jim proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a yardmaster at Rock Island Railroad.
Jim enjoyed boating and water skiing. He was a member of Hyde Park Presbyterian Church. Mr. Young was also a member of St. Joseph Lodge No 78, A.F. & A.M., 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and Moila Shrine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gertrude (Maxwell) Young; and brother, John “Jack” M. Young.
Additional Survivors include children, Taira Nelson (Thomas), Florida, Gayla Rene Roth; and son-in-law, JR Roth; grandchildren, Blake Roth (Julie) and Taira Roth (Afton); great-grandchildren, Alaina, George, Fynn and Harper Roth; and sister-in-law, Marion Young.

She was born October 8, 1926 in Kormaniche, Ukraine. She was a Homemaker, and a devoted member of the St. Joseph Ukrainian Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Kansas City Ukrainian Club.
Stefania was preceded in death by husband Jaroslaw “Russell” Shtohryn; two sons, Zenon “Jim” Shtohryn, and Peter Shtohryn; his mother, Maria Kurylo.
Survivors include son, Roman Shtohryn, (Cindy Portman) of St. Joseph; daughter, Mary Ann Heckelbeck of Kansas City, Mo.; a grandson, Paul (Angela) Shtohryn; four great-grandchildren, Alaina, Jace, Matthew, and Kessa; she also had two sisters in Ukraine, and one in Great Britain.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 27 at 2 p.m., at the St. Joseph Ukrainian Catholic Church, Fr. Ivan Krotec, and Fr. Bohdan Kudleychuck and Con-Celebrant. ST. JOSEPH – Dennis J. Donahue, 61, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2015 in St. Joseph health care center.
He was born July 9, 1953 in Cameron, Mo., son of Mary and Hugh Donahue. He married Merrie Hines on November 15, 1969 and she survives of the home.
He was the owner operator of Hines Auto Service. He enjoyed working on cars, playing softball, but he most especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren playing sports.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Tina Marie and Cassandra Donahue.
Survivors include, wife, Merrie Donahue of the home; son, Scott Donahue and companion, Sandy of St. Joseph; two daughters, Shanin Donahue and Francine (Tito) Wilson of St. Joseph; “favorite granddaughter”, Mackenzie Donahue; grandsons, Ebon, Scotty, Brenten, Bryson, and Tryston; great-grandchildren, Taliyah and Jaseah; brother, Steve Donahue; two sisters, Linda (Gaylen) Caw, and Mary (Bob) Harless all of St. Joseph.

ST. JOSEPH – Timothy James Rice Sr., 72, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Mosaic Life Care, St. Joseph.
He was born November 23, 1942 in Milwaukee, Ore., son of Hazel and William Rice Sr. He married Marie Youngs at St. James Catholic Church, Camp Douglas, Wi., on August 3, 1963.
He was a Welder and Maintenance Supervisor at several area waste management companies. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and was very handy mechanically, as well as a skilled carpenter, you could always catch him working in his garage where he could fix anything. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, St. Joseph.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers brothers, Robert, Bill, Jr, John, Don and Arthur.
Survivors include, wife, Marie Rice of the home; two sons, Timothy Rice Jr. (Becky), and Thaddeos (Tammy) Rice both of St. Joseph; six grandchildren, Trevor, Lena, Chris, Tamara, T.J., and Katie; and seven great-grandchildren; sister, Betty (Don) Eisel of Eugene, Ore.; mother-in-law, Margaret Youngs of Home; and several nieces and nephews.

AGENCY, Mo. – Roy L. Hazelwood, 77, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 25, 2015.
He was born November 22, 1937 in Gentry, Mo.
Roy married Rena Johnson on November 22, 1958. She survives of the home.
Roy was a graduate of Stanberry High School class of 55. He worked for 39 1/2 years at Wire Rope before retiring in 2002. He was a member of the Agency United Methodist Church in Agency, Missouri.
He enjoyed fishing, especially with his brother-in-law, Paul and hunting with his friend Jim.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Uva (Lemley) Hazelwood.
Survivors also include children, Pamela Barnes (Mike) and Todd Hazelwood (Lisa); grandchildren, Micah and Jessamyn Barnes and Stone Hazelwood; great-grandchild, Cameron Weingartner; two sisters, Audrey Lowary (Paul) and Carolyn Lytton (Bobby); several nieces and nephews; and aunt, Opal Whittington.

ST. JOSEPH – Patricia “Patty” Colleen Keith, 80, passed away Monday, February 23, 2015 in Mosaic Life Care.
She was born January 16, 1935 in St. Joseph, daughter of Marie and Miles Easter. She attended the Jones Elementary School and the DeKalb High School. She married Buddy Keith on January 22, 1955 and they shared 60 years of marriage together.
She worked at Wal-Mart for 17 years and was also a Hairdresser. She loved helping people in need, she enjoyed volunteering at God’s Mountain, the Southside Food Kitchen, she loved Sunday School, playing the Skip-bo card game, mushroom hunting, and country music, but most especially she loved spending time with her family and her precious grandchildren. She was a member of the Faith United Baptist.
Patty was preceded in death by father, Miles Easter; mother, Marie Easter; step-mother, Opal Easter; son, Gregory Van Keith; step-brother, Jim Kiger; two sisters, Joyce Dragoo and Beverly Ardrey; and step-sister Leona Huntsman.
Survivors include, husband, Buddy L. Fern married Jack Smith October 27, 1946. He preceded her in death October 16, 2005. Also preceding her in death were her parents Edmond and Grace (Patton) Carter.
She was a housewife and worked with custom draperies. Mrs. Smith was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.

She was born November 21, 1966 in St. Joseph, daughter of Vera (McClain) and Raymond Bernard. She graduated from Benton High School. She was a member of Roc Fellowship Church.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; four aunts, Brenda (McClain) Ebling, Va., Blythe, Angel Orozco, and Margaret Potter; an uncle, Nate Bernard; and brother, Raymond Bernard Jr.
She is survived by six sisters, Penny Canchola, Tammy Hawkins, Brenda Allman, Rachelle Bernard, Karla Bernard, and Vicki Funk; a brother, Robert Funk; seven aunts, Luisa Vasquez, Lulu Young, Nazaria “Sadie” Crail, Rose Devinney, Julia Barnes, Susanna Bernard, and Paula Deets; three uncles, Alex Bernard, Hector Bernard, and Willy Bernard.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, at the Roc Christian Fellowship Church, with a reception luncheon following the services at the Church. ST. JOSEPH – Melvin Lee “Mel” Logston, 88, passed away Saturday February 21, 2015 at Abbey Woods health care.
He was born September 22, 1926 near Millsville, Mo., and was of the Baptist faith. On June 18, 1944 he married Jerrylin Faye Golden, and they lived in St. Joseph since 1945. Mel was employed by the Corp of Engineers for six years, Wire Rope for six years, and retired from Crouch Brothers Trucking after 22 years due to declining health.
Melvin was the best father, grandfather and great grandfather on earth. He loved his family and put them above anything else. Melvin had many friends and loved to talk about trucks that he drove for years and was proud of his rewards he received for driving millions of miles with not one accident. Melvin lost the love of his life, Jerrylin, on May 21, 2013 after 69 years together. They can now be together again in heaven. May both of you rest in peace as we will all love you and cherish memories until we meet again. Love your son, Jerry Lee and family.
Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Jerrylin; his parents, Murray and Lucy Logston; six brothers, John, Payton, Paul, Willis, Carl, and Roy Logston; three sisters, Helen Potter, Lena Parsons, and Janie Sellars.
He is survived by son, Jerry Logston, and companion Betty Mace of Easton, Mo.; two grandchildren, Jerry Logston II, and Lori Cluck; three great-grandchildren; Houston Cluck, great-grandchildren, Hunter and Chase Logston; great-granddaughter, Brittany Mace; numerous nieces and nephews; and John Steinbrenner of Gold Canyon, Ariz., who was raised in the home.
Per Melvin’s wishes there will be no visitation or services at this time a graveside service will be held at a later date. He will be cremated under the direction and care of the Rupp Funeral Home.
