Billy David Guinn

Billy D. Guinn 85, of De Kalb, Missouri, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 in a Saint Joseph, MO health care center.

He was born December 9, 1933 in Dekalb, MO, son of the late Hazel and Auda Guinn. He graduated from DeKalb High School and farmed all his life. He enjoyed tractor pulls, garden tractor pulls, collecting antiques, and participating on the DeKalb Homecoming committee for many years. He was a member of the DeKalb Christian Church.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ronald Guinn Sr..

Survivors include, wife, Marilynn Guinn of the home, daughters: Brooke (Jake) Baber, Kansas City, MO, Michelle Oldham, Gilbert, AZ, Cynthia (Brad) Delk, Laura, OH, Belinda (Davey) Farris, Dearborn, MO, and a son Gene (Cindy) Guinn, Rushville, MO, 8 grandchildren 4 great grandchildren, brother, Gary (Barbara) Guinn, Atchison, KS, a sister, JoAnn Nanninga, Maryville, MO, and several nieces and nephews.

Harvey L. Earl

Harvey L. Earl, 79, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, June 10, 2019, at Mosaic Life Care.

He was born November 20, 1939 in Hammond, Indiana.

Harvey married Judith Bradshaw on April 8, 1973.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Lela (Brawley) Earl.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Nicole Derr (Todd), Shawna Webber (Evan); grandchildren, Kaitlynn and Kylee Derr, and Cy Webber.

Mary Bernice Bauman

Mary Bernice Bauman 99, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, June 10, 2019 at her home in St. Joseph, MO.

She was born March 15, 1920 in Lewis, IA, daughter of the late May and Joseph Burke. She graduated from Atlantic Iowa high School and was Registered Nurse. She worked at St. Joseph’s hospital, and the Missouri Crippled Children’s Service as a RN. She enjoyed collected dolls, and was the former president of the Doll Museum. Bernice was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, and a former member of the former Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Joseph Thomas Burke. Survivors include, son, Larry Bauman of the home, nieces, Sherry (Darrell) Child, Anamosa, IA, and Nancy (Tom) Frett of Minnesota, and a nephew, Joe (Iris) Burke, Williamsburg, VA.

Kimberly Wood

Kimberly Wood, 55, Kansas City, Missouri, formerly Monroe, North Carolina, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2019.
She was born on November 7, 1963 in Brookfield, Missouri to Gary and Donna (Hall) Lane.

Kimberly married Walter Wood on December 12, 1989.

She was a loving wife and mother. Kimberly was very friendly, she never met a stranger. She was always eager to help anyone she could, even people she barely knew. She could make friendship feel like family through her kindness and compassion for all those close to her.

Kimberly enjoyed watching Hallmark movies, reading, diet coke, going to thrift stores and antique shops with her daughter Kat, her dog Bentley, the beach, dancing, cooking for all her friends and family, and rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs.

She was preceded in death by her mother and her beloved dog McGee.

Survivors include her husband Walter, her father, siblings; Melinda, Jim, Tom, and Jessie, daughter; Katherine Wood, step-children; Wendy and Bradley Wood, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will gather with friends 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Billy P. Miller

Billy P. Miller died on June 7, 2019 at the age of 95. He was born July 23, 1923 to Donlan and Catherine Miller. He was a lifelong resident of Saint Joseph, Missouri.

Bill graduated from Central High School and left college early to join the US Navy where he served as a Naval Aviator during World War II. Following the war, Bill joined his father at Miller Chevrolet. He then moved on to his automotive dealership, Bill Miller Buick. Bill was also a corporate pilot for Fletcher/Mayo.

Bill was always civically minded, serving as a city councilman as well as sitting on the boards of several charitable organizations in Saint Joseph.

After retirement, Bill was very active with Meals on Wheels, delivering food and medications to those in need in the community. He was a strong supporter of the Salvation Army “Bed and Bread” program, Second Harvest, Open Door Food Kitchen, and the YWCA shelter.

Bill was preceded in death by his sisters, Roselee Fenner, Betty Miller; brothers, Don Jr., James E. Miller; son Paul Donlan Miller; and beloved wife of 61 years, Shirley Whitsell Miller.

He is survived by his children, Catherine Miller-DeCelles, Billy J. Miller; three grandchildren, Nicolas David DeCelles, Katie Ann DeCelles, Christopher Michael DeCelles; and five great-grandchildren.

Farewell Services 1:00 P.M. Friday, June 28, 2019, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service. Flowers are appreciated and for those wishing to make a contribution, the family requests they be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Karen “CoCo” Lynn Arnold

Karen “CoCo” Arnold 71, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2019 in a Saint Joseph, MO hospital.

She was born May 27, 1948 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of the late Corrine and Charles McDonald. She enjoyed singing on sing snap, and she loved her fur baby cats.

CoCo was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Charles McDonald Jr., sisters, Bonnie Norris, Barbara Emerson, and Gracie McDonald.

Survivors include husband, David Arnold Sr. of the home, sons: Jonathon Burhham, David Arnold Jr., and Mathew Arnold, daughters, Johanna Burnham, Cynthia Rock, and Sarah McGill. numerous grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services and interment will be conducted on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 2:00 pm, at the Odd Fellows Public Cemetery, The family will receive friends from 12:00 AM to on Wednesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Richard J. “Dick” DeVader

Richard J. “Dick” DeVader, 82, of Holton, went home to be with the Lord on June 9, 2019 in Topeka.

He was born November 11, 1936 at Delia, the son of Henry and Ines Hladky DeVader.

Dick was a farmer and a stockman and had owned and operated Dick’s Service in Holton from 1977 to 1993.

He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Katherine Rose DeVader, who died in infancy, and a brother, Raymon DeVader.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda Reino (Tim), Holton, Barbara Kathrens (Ed), Circleville, and Thelma Jean Wilson (Jeff), Mayetta; three brothers, Francis DeVader and Roger DeVader (Sarah), all of Holton, and Robert DeVader (Doris), Rancho Cordova, CA; three sisters, Ramona Robinson (Dean) and Renetta Vaught, all of Mayetta, and Rosealee Boling (Delbert), Hoyt and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Cremation is planned. No services are scheduled. Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton is assisting the family.

Josephine E. “Jo” Jimeson

Josephine E. “Jo” Jimeson, 96, of Hiawatha, passed away surrounded by her family Friday morning, June 7, 2019, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital. She previously had been a resident of Maple Heights Nursing Home in Hiawatha for a few years.

Jo was born on the family homestead northwest of Rulo, Nebraska, August 25, 1922, one of five children of Barney and Mary Santo Wissman. She grew up on the family farm where she assisted her family with the farm duties: gardening, working with chickens, even helping milk the cows. Jo attended and graduated 8th grade from Ft. Hazel country school near Rulo, before graduating from Falls City High School with the class of 1940. After high school, she worked at Flannagan’s Grill and as a bookkeeper for a Falls City bank.

She was engaged to Lloyd E. “Frosty” Jimeson and waited till after his discharge from the Army Air Corps where he served in World War II. They married August 23, 1945, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Rulo. Before making the decision to settle in Hiawatha, they traveled to Washington and Colorado for potential places to locate work to be near family. They made the decision to make Hiawatha their home and lived here nearly all of their married life. Frosty worked as a mechanic for Hiawatha Motor Co. until 1955 when they purchased land and moved their current house from Mercier, built a garage, and opened an auto, truck, and tractor repair business known as Jimeson Motor Service in Hiawatha. Jo worked as a bookkeeper for the business until they retired in 2000. They also enjoyed their property and home at Perry Lake. Frosty died January 5, 2014.

The Hiawatha community was very important to Jo. She treated people the same, no one was better than anyone else. She genuinely was interested in others, always had time to visit, and always had a smile. Her faith and church, St. Ann Catholic Church in Hiawatha, was a big part of her life. She served on the Altar society of the Church and was past president. She had twenty plus years as the First Communion class teacher, served at Eucharistic Minister, and also was Eucharistic Minister for the home bound and nursing home residents. Jo was active in her community: was a lifetime member of auxiliaries to VFW Post #5210, and Homer-White Post #66, American Legion, both of Hiawatha. She was busy with various church and card clubs; the PTA when the boys were younger; and was cub scout den mother troop #7. In her spare time, she was cooking and baking.

Survivors include her three sons: James Joseph Jimeson of Nebraska City, NE, John Lloyd Jimeson of Hartsel, CO, Mark Charles Jimeson of Hiawatha, KS; six grandchildren: Kimberly Lucero of Clovis, NM, Melanie (Brett) Schnitzer of Nebraska City, Christopher (Crystal) Jimeson of Highland, KS,Michelle (Jarrod) Owen of Sidney, IA, Desiree’ (Jeff) Wade of Carrington, ND, Sarah (Jordan) Lunsford of Falls City, NE; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings: Elmer John Wissman, Mary Carr, Vernal Wissman, and Margaret Herbster.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon Thursday, June 13, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Hiawatha. Father Dan Gardner will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at the Hiawatha Cemetery.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha after 10 a.m. Wednesday where the parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m., followed by visitation.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Josephine Jimeson Memorial Fund, sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S 7th St., 66434.

Galen Doyle Hisey

Galen Doyle Hisey, 83, of Atchison, KS died at his home on Friday, June 7, 2019 surround by his family.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 12th, 2019 at the Atchison United Methodist Church with Reverend Nancy J. Kollhoff officiating. Burial will follow at the Cummings Cemetery, Cummings. KS The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Tuesday, June 11th, 2019 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home who is handling the arrangements. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Atchison United Methodist Church or Atchison Hospital Hospice and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Galen was born on Oct. 8th, 1935 in Lenora, KS the son of Everett E. and Edna M. (Thompson) Hisey. He graduated from Hill City High School in 1954. He attended Garden City Junior College and received his BS degree in Education from Fort Hays State University in 1959. He earned his Master’s Degree from Emporia State University in 1970. Mr. Hisey was a teacher for 38 years and was a coach for 46 years. He taught at Morrowville High School for 2 years, Vermillion High School 1 year, Valley Falls High School for 15 years and ACCHS for 20 years. Galen was a member of the Atchison United Methodist Church. He enjoyed working in his yard, attending KSU Football Games, working crossword puzzles, fantasy football, coaching, and woodcarving. Galen was devoted to this family and loved his grandchildren dearly.

He was married to Louise Turner in July 1958 but they were later divorced. He was married to Barbara (Schrader) Blide on Aug 1, 1986 at Cummings UMC. Barbara survives of the home. Additional survivors include a daughter Janet R. (Guy) Sartee, Shaker Heights, OH, and three step daughters, Deborah (John) Thompson, Effingham, KS, Dana (Jerry) Ernzen, Cummings, KS, and Denise (Taylor) Joslin, Kansas City, MO, a sister Evelyn Reiman, Binkelman, NE, two grandchildren Josef and Jack Sartee, and five step grandchildren, Jared (Ming) Sartee, Megan (Ryan) Ladner and Jenna Thompson, Tannah and Jaycee Ernzen and one great granddaughter Sawyer Sartee. His parents, a son, Bradley A. Hisey, and two brothers Lyle and Al Hisey preceded him in death.

 

Patrick Dennis Farrell

Patrick Dennis Farrell, 63, Kansas City, KS passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Sat. June 22, 2019 at St. Ann’s Church, Effingham with Fr. Dan Gardner as Celebrant. A private family burial will take place at a later time and date. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. The body has been cremated; the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Pat was born on January 18, 1956 in Atchison KS the son of Jack R. and Rosemary (Candreia) Farrell. His early childhood was spent in Topeka, KS and he and his family moved to Effingham, KS in 1968. He graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1974. After graduation Pat worked for the Atchison Fire Department until an injury ended his firefighting career in 1976. He moved to Kansas City KS where he owned and operated his own delivery service and then worked for the Wyandotte County Kansas Parks and Recreation Department for several years. He enjoyed music movies, motorcycles, muscle cars and was a big animal lover. He also was an avid collector.

Survivors include two brothers, Brian Farrell, KC KS and John Farrell, KC, MO, three sisters; Colleen Gammon, Atchison, KS, Shelley Farrell, KC KS, and Julie Farrell (Mike Yeager) KC KS, nieces Lauren Gammon, Alyssa Langford Newman, and Heather Langford, and nephews, Nathan Gammon, Raymond Langford; Aunt & Uncle Alice & Calvin Smith, Fairborn, OH, and several cousins. His parents preceded him in death. Pat had a generous and caring heart and he enjoyed helping people. Rest easy Pat, God Speed. We Love You.
