ST. JOSEPH – Marjorie A. Rausch, 90, died Saturday, December 21, 2013 at a local healthcare facility.
She was born May 2, 1923 to Arthur and Faye (Frank) Eustice in East St. Louis, Ill.
She married John Frederick Rausch on September 19, 1942. He preceded her in death on July 23, 2010. She was a former secretary for St. Joseph School District.
Mrs. Rausch was in Civil Service during and after World War II, Cub Scout Den Mother, Youth Sunday School Teacher, member of McCarthy Baptist Church and Galena Illinois Historical Society.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Arthur Lyman Eustice; and son, Jess D. Rausch.
Survivors: sons, John Rausch (Sharon), Gilbert, Ariz., and James Rausch (Sandy), Columbia, Mo.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and twin sister, Maryann Spangler, Seattle, Wash.
Services: 3 p.m., Saturday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Sister M. Natalia Barela, OSB | 1908-2013
CLYDE, Mo. – Sister M. Natalia Barela, OSB, 105, formerly of Tucson, Ariz., died Wednesday, December 25, 2013, at Our Lady of Rickenbach, Clyde.
Sister Natalia Barela was born Wednesday, July 8, 1908, in Ranchos de Albuquerque, N.M. to Eugene Paul and Soledad (Gonzales) Barela.
Sister Natalia was graduate of Albuquerque Business College and was a Roman Catholic Nun. Sister had been at the Benedictine Convent of Adoration since 2001.
Sister was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Horace, John, and Eugene; and a sister, Alice Barela Forte.
Survivors include a niec,e Clara Forte; and nephews, Charles Forte, Phil Barela, and Dr. Tom Barela.
The Vigil service will be 7 p.m. Friday, December 27, 2013 at Our Lady of Rickenbach, Clyde.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 8 a.m., Saturday, December 28, 2013, at the Adoration Chapel at the Monastery, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Clyde.

Joseph L. Harris | 1944-2013
ST. JOSEPH – Joseph “Larry” L. Harris, 69, passed away Monday, December 23, 2013 in St. Joseph.
He was born December 12, 1944 in St. Joseph, and the son of Erma and Joseph Harris. He worked as a City Bus Driver and a Truck Driver. He was a Christian and attended the Highway To Heaven Church.
Survivors include, 3 sons, Ace Harris and Joseph Harris of St. Joseph and Dickey Harris of Elwood, Kan.; seven, grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Rick and Jack Harris of Austin, Texas and Roger Harris of Austin; a sister, Nancy Haynes of St. Joseph; and a life long friend, Darrell Kinsfather of St. Joseph.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., on Friday, December 27, 2013 at Rupp Funeral Home with Pastor Nancy Haynes officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., on Thursday at the Rupp Funeral Home.

ST. JOSEPH – Mary Louise King, 79, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2013 in a St. Joseph, health care center. She was born February 22, 1934 in Maryville, Mo. Mary is the daughter of Janie and James Allen. She Married Arlen Luther King on November 27, 1958 in St. Joseph, and he precedes her in death.
She worked at the Missouri Methodist Hospital and CD Smith Drug as a Switchboard Operator. She was a member of King Hill Baptist Church.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, J.W. Allen; and sister, Dorothy Lowery.
Survivors include, her son, David King and wife Gina of Romeoville, Ill.; daughter, Diane Kretzer and husband Dallas of St. Joseph; a sister, Virginia Gill of Chillicothe, Ill.; and two granddaughters Lauren and Jillian King.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Rupp Funeral Home, with Pastor Greg Dixon officiating. Mary L. Grant | 1925-2013
ST. JOSEPH- Mary Louise Grant, 88, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2013 at a St. Joseph Hospital. She was born September 21, 1925 in Faucett, MO., daughter of Genevieve and Willard Thomas.
She retired from the St. Joseph School District in the kitchen department working at Central High School, Picket and Hall Schools. She was a former member of McCarthy Baptist Church.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Grant; her parents; four brothers, Bill, Donald, Norman, and Bert Thomas. She is survived by daughter, Linda Grant of St. Joseph.
She will be cremated under the direction of the Rupp Funeral Home. The inurnment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. There are no scheduled visitation or memorial services at this time.

Lavon R. Hollingsworth | 1924-2013
MARYVILLE, Mo. – Lavon Rae Hollingsworth, 89, died Sunday, December 22, 2013, at her home in Maryville. Lavon was a retired nurse and co-owner of Hollingsworth Peonies Nursery.
Lavon was born May 31, 1924, in Atchison, Kan., to Albert John and Mari Willa (Mayfield) Wohlgemuth.
A 1942 graduate of Atchison High School, and also a graduate of the Cushing Nursing School, Leavenworth, Kan., in 1945.
She first married Robert Parker Tretheway, October 16, 1945. After Robert’s death she married Don Hollingsworth on July 30, 1993, in Atchison.
Lavon was a member of the Camp Creek United Methodist Church, Cummings, Kan., American Peony Society, and the Pony Express Iris Society and Past President of Maryville Garden Club.
Lavon’s nursing career mirrored Robert’s TWA career, taking her to Pasadena, Calif., and St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. A move to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia found Lavon caring for other members of the American community. Returning to Kansas City, she worked at the TWA Overhaul Base, Worlds of Fun, and Swope Park Nursing Home.
Lavon became a true peony enthusiast working alongside Don in developing a thriving commercial peony nursery. During the past 20 years she immensely enjoyed attending the annual APS conventions, kindling dear friendships and promoting Hollingsworth originations and propagations.
Preceding in death were her parents; her first husband Robert Tretheway, February 14, 1981; infant son, Dean George Tretheway; and two brothers, Albert John Wohlgemuth and Melvin Wohlgemuth.
Survivors include: her husband, Don Hollingsworth of their home; Robert Parker (Rosie) Tretheway II, Colorado Springs, Colo., Kent Ray (Kathryn “Kop”) Tretheway, Derby, Kan.; Dana Ross (Glenny) Tretheway, Tulsa, Okla.; step-son, Larry W. (Eileen) Loos, Maricopa, Ariz.; step-daughters, Sandra M. Loos, Kansas City, Mo, and LaDonna S. (Vincent) Benne, Platte City, Mo.; seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and seven step-great grandchildren.
Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, December 27, 2013, at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Chapel, Atchison, with the funeral service following at Becker Dyer Stanton, 11 a.m., Saturday, December 28, 2013, and burial in Camp Creek UMC Cemetery, Atchison, following the service.

Ronald Portrey | 1931-2013
ST. JOSEPH- Ronald Portrey, 82, died Thursday, December 19, 2013 at a healthcare facility in Cameron, Mo.
He was born December 1, 1931 to David and Margaret (Warren) Portrey in Pontiac, Mich.
He married Barbara (Filter) Todd on June 20, 1981. She survives of the home.
Ronald proudly served in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He worked for Western Electric, now known as AT&T, as a machine operator.
He enjoyed square dancing and traveling with Barbara to the dances. He also enjoyed gardening and watching college football, especially his Cornhuskers.
Mr. Portrey was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and four brothers.
Additional Survivors: children, Ronald Alan Portrey, Richard Portrey (Beth) and Joni Nistois (Greg); step-children, Terry Todd (Donna) and Shane Todd (Laura); sisters, Betty Massey and Patsy Mandry; brother, Denis Portrey; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth A. Sadler | 1929-2013
ST. JOSEPH – Elizabeth Ann Sadler, 84, passed away Monday, December 22, 2013 in a St. Joseph health care center. She was born July 19, 1929 in St. Joseph and is the daughter of Grace and Edward Hendra. She graduated from Benton high school and St. Joseph hospital nursing school. She married Neal Lawrence on October 14, 1950 and he survives of the home.
She was a Registered Nurse at the Missouri Methodist Medical Center and the St. Joseph (Sisters) Hospital. She helped start group home developmentally disabled children, and was a long time member of Wesley United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women Group.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents,; a brother, John “J.T” T. Hendra; a sister, Josephine Hendra; and two, grandchildren.
Survivors include, husband, Neal Sadler of the home; four daughters, Janet Hedges and husband Marion “Shorty” of Cape Coral, Fla.; Diana Lynn Higgins and husband Steven of Presque Isle, Maine; Rhonda Blaylock and husband Kim of St. Joseph; Valerie Ann Sadler of St. Joseph; son, Jeffrey S. Sadler and wife Holly of St. Joseph; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marie Patchin of St. Joseph.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Rupp Funeral Home with Rev. James Barnett officiating. ST. JOSEPH- Betty Jean (Walker) Russell, 80, formerly of Sacramento, Calif., died Friday, December 20, 2013 at her home in St. Joseph.
She was born July 7, 1933 to Irvin and Minnie (Linville) Walker in St. Joseph.
She married Harry Russell on October 13, 1955. He survives of the home.
Betty was of the Baptist faith and loved to knit and watch sports and play computer games.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Olin Walker and Harold Walker; and sisters, Nevilla Shadduck, Hazel Bunch, Clara Morris, Margaret Estes, Bessie Sterling and Helen Whitmore.
Additional Survivors: daughter, Gina Marie Russell, Sacramento; granddaughter, Shanon Russell; sisters, Opal Sloan, Joy Terry and Charlotte Yocam; brother, Roy Walker (Irene); and numerous nieces and nephews.
