Elmer H. Steltenpohl 101, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2013 in a Saint Joseph, MO health care center. He was born September 18, 1912 in St. Joseph, son of Bessie and George Steltenpohl. He worked at Sonny Myers Amusement, and at area farms. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Buddy and Arthur Steltenpohl, eight sisters, Ruth Abbott, Josephine Steltenpohl, Helen Malone, Hazel Stout, Ethel Polson, Mabel Sollars, Betty Steltenpohl, and Ada Pasley. Survivors include brother, Bill Steltenpohl and wife Marilyn of Saint Joseph, MO, Richard Steltenpohl and wife Gail of Valdosta, GA, and Tom Tucker and wife Diane of St. Joseph, MO.

Raymond Forrest Morrison

Morrison, RaymondRaymond Forrest Morrison, 95, Hopkins, Missouri, died Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at Village Care Center, Maryville, Missouri.

Born January 10, 1918, in Burlington Junction, Missouri to Everet Harvey and Alma E. (Wiseman) Morrison, Raymond attended Hopkins School.

Raymond was a truck driver and farmer. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II June, 1944 to November, 1945.

He married Ruth Maxine Coleman on December 23, 1937, in Maryville.

Raymond was a member of the First Christian Church, Hopkins, the James Edward Gray American Legion Post #100 and the Elks Lodge, both of Maryville.

Preceding in death were his parents and wife Max (June 18, 2002) , step-son Ronald Coleman (March 3, 1991) and sister Lois Coleman (January 9, 2006).

Survivors include his sons: Leroy (Helen) Morrison, Maryville, Bill (Carol) Morrison, Loudon, Tennessee, Jim (Linda) Morrison, Maryville, and Kelly Morrison, Hopkins, twelve grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren, and daughter-in-law Mary Coleman, Savannah.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, at the Wray Memorial United Methodist Church, Hopkins with burial following in the Hopkins Cemetery.

A graveside Military Service will be conducted by the James Edward Gray American Legion Post #100, Maryville.

A family visitation will be held at the Hopkins Community Building following the service and burial. Anyone who would like to come by and share memories with the family is welcome.

He was born July 13, 1927 to Harvey and Alverta Paden in Wichita, Kansas.
He was one of the St Joseph’s oldest psychic readers and a celebrated artist.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Anna Lee Martin.

He married Debra Blazinski Schroeder on August 2, 1996, and she survives of the home. He retired from Armour & Co. when they closed. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing and door to door ministries. He was a Jehovah’s Witness. Luther was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Sue Courter, and Lois Owens. He is survived by wife, Debra Schroeder of Amazonia, MO, son, Benny Schroeder and wife Patricia of St. Joseph, MO, 4 daughters, Brenda Bell of Cameron, MO, Cheri Schroeder of Cainsville, MO, Katrina Smith and husband Rick of Savannah, MO, and Stephanie Schroeder of Bolckow, MO, seven, grandchildren, seven, great grandchildren, and two brothers, Alvin Schroeder of St. Joseph, MO, and Gene Schroeder of Norwood, MO, and a sister, Alice Allen of Southern, MO. Patrick (Pat) Lewis Caton

CatonPatPatrick (Pat) Lewis Caton, 80, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 15, 2013. Pat was born March 14, 1933, in St. Joseph, Missouri to Clark and Norma Caton. He married Joann (Jody) Hollingsworth March 7, 1951.
He worked at the St. Joseph Stockyards as a Commission Man and Cattle Salesman for both Producers Livestock Commission Company and Swift & Henry Livestock Commission Company. His career at the stockyards spanned more than a 50-year period.
Pat was a member of the Mid-Buchanan School Board and the Sparta Cemetery Board. He was also a member of Sparta United Methodist Church.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Jeffrey Clark Caton and Jack Scott Caton; one grandson; three brothers, Burman, Charles, and Joseph Caton; six sisters, Mary Hessel, Dorothy (Pug) Herrick, Annalee Couture, Virginia Kirn, Buelah (Boots) Francis, and Kathryn Zeiders.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jody; three daughters, Patti Jo Halter and husband, Wayne, of Kansas City, Missouri; Cheryl Ann Anderson and Michel Guernsey and Dorothy Jane (Janie) Martinez and husband, Louie, all of St. Joseph, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; his brother, Robert Caton and wife, Sue of St. Joseph, Missouri; brother-in-law, Henry Kirn of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; sister-in-law, Dorothy Caton of St. Joseph, Missouri, and several nieces and nephews, including Connie Lentz and husband, Donnie, of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Charles (Buck) Caton and his wife, Sharon, of Buena Vista, Arkansas.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2013, at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. James Barnett and Rev. Rodney Krumme officiating. Linda Diane Parman, 61, Pickering, Missouri, died October 13, 2013,  at her home in Pickering.

Linda  was born November 26, 1951, in Kansas City, Missouri to Lawrence  and Dorothy Jewel Galloway Walter.

A graduate of North Kansas City High School, she also attended Northwest Missouri State University.  A farmwife, Linda was a cook at Gray’s Restaurant, Maryville, for 20 years.

Linda and John Charles Parman were married July 10, 1971, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Linda was a member of the First Christian Church, Maryville, Dairy Farmers of America and was active in product promotions, Girl Scouts and was a leader for both Girl and Boy Scouts.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Walter (1998) and brother, David Walter (1999).

Linda is survived by her husband John Parman, of the home in Pickering; children: Mitch (Stephanie) Parman , Skidmore, Missouri and Michelle (Ryan) Parman-Gift, Hopkins, Missouri; brother, Mark (Carol) Walter, Kansas City, Missouri; three grandchildren: Xander, Journee and Tyller Parman; and her father, Lawrence Walter, Gladstone, Missouri.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 16, 2013 from 4:00-6:00 pm at Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Celebration of life will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 17th, at Price Funeral Home, with burial in Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville, Missouri.

He was born November 5, 1939 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Sylvia and Jesse Matthews. He graduated from Faucett High School. He retired from Boehringer Ingelheim as the manager of Biologist production, starting with the company when it was Anchor Serum, then Phillips Roxanne, after retirement he worked at Phoenix Scientific. He loved to travel with his wife Nancy to Colorado to visit family, and was always busy helping others. Sammy was a member of the King Hill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by wife, Nancy Kay Matthews, his parents, a daughter, Cynthia Matthews, a son, Shawn Matthews, a brother, Jesse Matthews, three sisters, Velma Ritchie, Viola Kneib, and Mary Huffman. Survivors include, daughter, Becky Matthews, son, Eric Matthews and wife Kim all of Saint Joseph, MO, two granddaughters, Kristen Sheehan, and Samantha Matthews, a grandson, Bronson Kidwell, two brothers, Virgil Matthews of St. Joseph, brother, Earl Matthews of Dearborn, MO, and two sisters, Joyce Frakes of St. Joseph, MO, and Donna Huffman of St. Joseph.

Sharon Roderick Vaughn, 77, Kimberling City, Missouri died October 11, 2013.

She was born December 8, 1935 to Cecil and Virginia (Miller) Roderick in Milan, Missouri.

She married William H. Vaughn on June 9, 1957.

She was a retired elementary school teacher for the St. Joseph School District. She also was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority, St. Joseph Junior League and PEO.

She enjoyed reading, sewing, antiquing, and being a mother, grandmother and teacher. As a child advocate, she believed that if it isn’t good for children, it shouldn’t be done.

She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Dianne Vaughn Meier.

Survivors: husband, William H. Vaughn; daughters, Melissa Anthony and Lynne Harman; grandchildren, Sarah Smidt, Brooks Anthony, Addison Anthony, Bennett Harman and Claire Harman; brother, Edward E. Roderick; sister, Patricia Farrand.

He was born September 24, 1925 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Francisca “Frances” and Mauricio Barbosa. He attended the Our Lady of Guadalupe Grade School and then graduated from Christian Brothers high school. He married Victoria Guardado on November 28, 1947 and she precedes him in death in October 1993. He served in the Navy and is a veteran of the World War II. He retired from the St. Joseph Fire Dept. as a Captain Station 8 at 33rd and Mitchell. He also owned and operated the Barbosa & Sons Awning service. He always had a second job to provide for his family. He enjoyed praying the rosary with his brothers and sisters on Monday nights, taking his entire family on a Disney Cruise to the Bahamas on for his 80th birthday, he loved big band music, dancing and singing and was an avid horse shoe player. Merced was a founding member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Men’s Club, the Mexican Fiesta as an organizer and Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by wife, Victoria Barbosa, his parents, a brother, Pelan E.C. Barbosa, and a sister, Lupe Cathcart. Survivors include three sons, Simon Barbosa and wife Lou Anne, Helena, MO, Ron Barbosa and wife Linda and Vincent Barbosa, St. Joseph, MO, two daughters, Juanita Stewart and husband Lonnie, St. Joseph, MO, and Rosemary Dixon, Clarksdale, MO, seven grandchildren; Brett Dixon, Heather Seiter, Jessica Stewart, Sara Brown, Joseph Barbosa, Kathleen Barbosa, and Michael Barbosa, ten, great grand children, four brothers, Jesse Barbosa and wife Wanda, St. Joseph, MO, Jason Barbosa, Maryville, MO, Faustino Barbosa, St. Joseph, MO, and Rick Barbosa and wife Norma, Virginia Beach, VA, six sisters, Bernie Ceglenski and husband Mike, Helena, MO, Julia Burris, St. Joseph, MO, Christina Torres and husband Carlos, Austin, TX, Mary Helen White, Baton Rouge, LA, and Ruth Curtin, St. Joseph, MO as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends. Grace (Badger) Bohannon, 101, Dearborn, Missouri passed away on, Thursday, October 10, 2013 at her home peacefully with her family by her side.
Grace was a jolly person and enjoyed life. She lived every day to the fullest. She had a heart of gold.
Grace was born to Asa and Katherine Badger on March 13, 1912. Mr. Badger was a coal miner who passed away in 1922, leaving a wife and five children (all deceased). The family moved to Browning, Missouri, where Grace attended a one room school named Clem Springs. That is where she met a classmate Bill Bohannon. They grew up as friends for many years and finally became man and wife. Grace graduated high school and afterwards they moved to the St. Joseph area. In 1936 they moved to their farm in Dearborn, Missouri. They worked the farm together until Bill passed away on September 28, 1996. He passed away just after celebrating their 70th anniversary of happiness together.
Grace remained on the farm with the help of her nephew Kenneth Parker and wife Carol. They helped take care of Bill and Grace in their later years. She was also blessed with the help of her good neighbors Mr. and Mrs. Vern Johnson.
Survivors: many nephews and nieces.
