Kendrix’s three in OT helps Missouri State beat Indiana State

riggertMSUSPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Camyn Boone scored 30 points, and Chris Kendrix made a go ahead 3-pointer with a minute left in overtime and Missouri State beat Indiana State 89-85 on Saturday.

Kendrix and Dequon Miller added 19 points apiece for Missouri State (11-15, 7-7 Missouri Valley).

Devonte Brown scored 26 points to lead Indiana State (13-13, 7-7).

The Sycamores jumped out to a four-point lead with 2:30 left in overtime. Boone scored a jumper, and the Sycamores missed a 3 and two free throws on their next possession. Kendrix then made a 3 and Missouri State led 84-83. The Sycamores missed two more shots on the following possession, and the Bears made 5 of 6 from the line to seal it.

Indiana State’s Brenton Scott made a 3 to tie it at 77-all with nine seconds left in regulation. Miller’s potential game-winning 3 hit the front of the rim at the buzzer to force overtime.

Missouri State comes up short at Northern Iowa

riggertMSUCEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Jeremy Morgan had a career-high 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists and Northern Iowa beat Missouri State 83-69 on Wednesday night for a fifth straight win.

Matt Bohannon and Bennett Koch scored 19 apiece and Wes Washpun had 11 points with nine assists for the Panthers (15-11, 7-6 Missouri Valley Conference). Northern Iowa never trailed, made 19 of 21 free throws and hit 10 of 23 from beyond the arc.

Trailing 49-38 at halftime, the Bears’ Ryan Kreklow and Loomis Gerring combined to score nine unanswered points and Missouri State closed to within 61-58.

The Panthers replied with 17-2 run and led 78-60 with 4:36 left after Koch’s back-to-back dunks and the Bears trailed by double digits the rest of the way.

Chris Kendrix scored 20 with a career-high five 3-pointers for Missouri State (10-15, 6-7). Dequon Miller had a career-high seven assists.

Missouri State struggles at Evansville Saturday

riggertMSUEVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — D.J. Balentine scored 18 points to become the all-time leading scorer in Evansville school history in its 83-64 win over Missouri State on Saturday.

Balentine now sits at 2,280 career points, which broke the previous record held by Colt Ryan.

Jaylon Brown scored 19 points to lead Evansville (19-6, 8-4 Missouri Valley), which rebounded from its first back-to-back losses of the season. Mislav Brzoja added 13 points and six boards.

Chris Kendrix had 21 points, seven rebounds, and five assists for Missouri State (10-14, 6-6), which has lost four in a row to the Purple Aces.

Evansville had an 11-2 run and took a 40-27 lead at the half. The Purple Aces then scored 10 of the first 14 points out of the locker room, capped by a Brown 3, for a 50-31 lead. Evansville coasted from there, never letting their lead dip below 15 points.

Kendrix, Missouri State hold on to defeat Bradley 77-71

riggertMSUSPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Chris Kendrix scored a career-high 21 points and Missouri State came up clutch at the free-throw line in the final seconds to hold off Bradley 77-71 on Tuesday night.

Dorrian Williams and Jarred Dixon each scored a pair of foul shots in the last 13 seconds to foil a Bradley comeback. Camyn Boone scored 18 points for Missouri State (10-13, 6-5 Missouri Valley Conference). The Tigers made 30 of 37 foul shots

Bradley missed its first nine shots of the game while committing 10 turnovers to dig a 22-4 hole at the start. The Braves rallied as close as 73-71 on Antoine Pittman’s driving layup with 41 seconds left. The Braves had to foul, and Williams and Dixon didn’t miss.

Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye scored 20 for Bradley (3-21, 1-10). Luuk van Bree scored nine in a row before fouling out with 18 points and 4:36 remaining.

Each team shot 54 percent after halftime.

Miller leads Missouri State past Illinois State in OT

riggertMSUSPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Jarred Dixon scored the last seven points of overtime to lift Missouri State past Illinois State 84-81 on Saturday.

Illinois State took a four-point lead on a pair of Paris Lee free throws with 2:03 to go. Dixon then took over. His 3-pointer cut the deficit to 81-80 before he drew a charge against a driving Deontae Hawkins. Dixon hit a jumper on the next possession to put the Bears up by one.

After the Redbirds’ DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell left his layup short with four seconds left, Dixon gathered the rebound, was fouled, and made both free throws for the final margin. Dixon finished with 14 points.

Dequon Miller led Missouri State (9-13, 5-5 Missouri Valley) with 22 points, shooting 6 for 10 from 3-point range. His final 3 came when he launched the ball past NBA range to tie it at 72 with two seconds left in regulation to force overtime.

Akoon-Purcell led Illinois State (12-11, 6-4) with 18 points.

Missouri State lets halftime lead slip away at Indiana State

riggertMSUTERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) — Khristian Smith had 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists as Indiana State beat Missouri State 68-59 on Wednesday night.

Smith scored seven straight Indiana State points late in the second half, capped by a 3-point play, for a 61-52 lead.

Jarred Dixon made three free throws with 1:03 left to cut Missouri State’s deficit to 63-57, but Devonte Brown answered with two free throws for an eight-point lead.

Brown added 15 points on 9-of-10 shooting at the line for Indiana State (12-9, 6-3 Missouri Valley Conference). Brenton Scott had 10 points and Brandon Murphy grabbed 10 rebounds — seven on the offensive end.

Both teams struggled from the floor, shooting below 38 percent. Indiana State made just 9 of 33 attempts (27 percent) in the first half but hit 47 percent in the second.

Dixon led Missouri State (8-13, 4-5) with 19 points and Dequon Miller added 12.

Missouri State falls at home to Southern Illinois

riggertMSUSPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Bola Olaniyan scored a career-high 17 points and Southern Illinois beat Missouri State 80-65 on Sunday.

The Salukis (18-3, 6-1 Missouri Valley) have won four straight, 10 of 11 and are an NCAA-leading 8-0 on the road.

Olaniyan was 7-of-9 shooting. Tyler Smithpeters was perfect on four 3-point attempts and scored 13 points. Mike Rodriguez also scored 13 points with Lee Vincent adding 11 and Sean O’Brien 10. Anthony Beane had a career-high six assists.

Dequon Miller scored 22 points for the Bears (8-12, 4-4), who had won three straight MVC games for the first time since 2010-11. Ryan Kreklow added 14 points and Jarred Dixon 10.

Southern Illinois led from early on, building a permanent double-digit lead with nine minutes left in the first half. The Salukis took their biggest lead of 23 points, 62-39, with 10:34 left in the game after four points from Olaniyan.

Missouri State uses big second half to rally past Drake

riggertMSUDES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Dequon Miller scored 23 points with four 3-pointers and Missouri State erupted for 50 second-half points to beat Drake 79-70 on Wednesday night.

Drake led 39-29 at the half before the Bears used a 14-2 run in a little more than four minutes to take a two-point lead.

By comparison, Missouri State (8-11, 4-3 Missouri Valley) used nearly 11 minutes in the first half to score 15 points.

The lead traded hands in the second half, but Miller’s 3 with 10:15 left gave Missouri State a 55-52 lead it would never surrender. Chris Kendrix went on his own 8-0 run with a dunk, layup and four free throws in 1:15 to put the Bears up 66-54.

Drake (5-14, 0-7) countered with 14-5 run, and Reed Trimmer’s layup cut the deficit to 73-68 with 1:53 left, but the Bulldogs shot just 1 for 6 from the floor the rest of the way.

Trimmer led Drake with 21 points.

Missouri State rolls to big win at Bradley

riggertMSUPEORIA, Ill. (AP) — Obediah Church scored 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Missouri State rolled to a 61-42 win over Bradley on Saturday night.

Ryan Kreklow added 12 points for the Bears (7-11, 3-3 Missouri Valley Conference). Camyn Boone had 10 points and five rebounds and Chris Kendrix chipped in nine points. Missouri Sate averaged 41.2 percent shooting from the field and 60 percent from the line.

Missouri Valley jumped to a 16-6 start and led 34-18 at the break.

Bradley surged 12-8 to start the second half to close the gap to 12 points, 42-30, but faded midway as Church dunked to extend the Bears lead to 46-32 with 8:14 to play. Boone followed a second Church dunk with one of his own to make it 57-37 with 3:03 left and the Bears cruised from there.

Callum Barker and Ronnie Suggs scored 12 points apiece for the Braves (3-16, 1-5).

Missouri State falls at home to Wichita State

riggertMSUSPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Markis McDuffie scored 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting and collected nine rebounds as Wichita State broke open a close game and beat Missouri State 78-62 Wednesday night.

Wichita State (11-5, 5-0 Missouri Valley) led 37-36 at the half then used a 16-3 run out of the break to go up 53-39 on Rauno Nurger’s jumper with 12:38 to play.

Conner Frankamp hit consecutive 3s and Evan Wessel buried a 3 to make the score 62-44.

Missouri State (6-11, 2-3) sped to a 15-4 lead early when Dequon Miller hit a 3 with 13:58 to play before halftime. The Shockers battled back and Rarshard Kelly’s tip-in basket with 28 second before halftime gave Wichita State the lead for good.

Frankamp and Ron Baker each had 14 points for the Shockers as they shot 32 for 67 (47.8 percent) from the floor.

Miller scored 17 points for the Bears while Camyn Boone and Ryan Kreklow each had 10.
