The signing class includes Adelaide Watts from Gretna High School, Olivia Daugherty from Liberty North High School, Grace Ruehle from Dodge City High School and Bailey Devlin from Rock Bridge High School.

“I am very excited to have these four individuals join our Northwest family,” said Anderson. “We knew that with our senior class this year graduating, we needed to bring in players who could come in and immediately contribute to maintain the level we have been at the past few years. Missouri’s Frericks named to Katrina McClain Award watch list

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association named Mizzou redshirt senior forward Jordan Frericks a candidate for the 2018 Katrina McClain Award on Thursday. The honor recognizes the top power forwards in Women’s Division 1 college basketball.

Frericks is one of 20 watch list candidates in the nation and one of just three SEC players on the list, joining Florida’s Haley Lorenzen and Georgia’s Caliya Robinson. Frericks is coming off a redshirt after a knee injury sidelined the Quincy, Illinois, native for the entire 2016-17 season, but the 6-foot-1 senior has been dominant when healthy.

In 2015-16, Frericks was named Second-Team All-SEC by coaches and honorable mention All-SEC by the Associated Press after averaging 12.1 points and 7.7 assists, while racking up 44 assists, 39 steals and 24 blocks. She became the 33rd member of Mizzou’s 1,000-Point Club, tied the eight-best single-season field goal percentage mark at 55.1 percent, scored in double figures in 21 games and recorded seven double-doubles.

In her most recent action against McKendree on Nov. 6 in the final game of exhibition play, Frericks picked up right where she left off, racking up nine points on 50 percent shooting while also collecting four defensive boards, four steals and two blocked shots in just 17 minutes. Frericks and the Tigers open regular season play this Friday at 2:30 p.m. CT as they take on Western Kentucky in the opening round of the Hawkeye Challenge.

The Selection Committee for the Katrina McClain Award is composed of top women’s college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers.

The list will be narrowed down to 10 in mid-February and then five finalists will be selected in March that will be presented to Katrina McClain and the selection committee. The winner of this award will be presented live at an inaugural awards ceremony hosted by the Basketball Hall of Fame, Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, and ESPN at the NCAA Women’s Final Four in Columbus, OH.

Missouri to unveil & dedicate Norm Stewart statue on Friday

COLUMBIA, Mo. – A statue of Mizzou’s Hall of Fame men’s basketball coach Norm Stewart will be dedicated on Friday, Nov. 10, at 1:30 p.m. on the Walsworth Family All-American Plaza on the north side of Mizzou Arena.

He won more than 630 games in his Hall of Fame career while guiding Mizzou to 16 of its 26 all-time NCAA Tournament appearances and 19 Big 8 Conference championships (eight regular-season titles, six postseason tournament crowns and five holiday tournament championships). MARYVILLE, Mo. – Northwest Missouri State University Director of Athletics Mel Tjeerdsma has announced that Bearcat soccer head coach Tracy Hoza has resigned from her position.

She garnered First Team All-Little Hawkeye Conference and Newspaper Association First Team All-State recognition. In postseason play, Berg set the 5A single-game state tournament scoring record with a career-high 36 points in Indianola’s quarterfinal win.

In 2015-16, Berg was the Class 5A Iowa state leader in field goal percentage, shooting a scorching 63.6 percent. She also led all classes in the state in field goal percentage during her freshman season as she shot 68.3 percent from the field.

Kansas pulls away for exhibition win against Fort Hays State

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Some stingy defense and 16 points from senior guard Devonte’ Graham in the second half helped separate the No. 4/3 Kansas Jayhawks from the Fort Hays State Tigers Tuesday night in Allen Fieldhouse, 86-57. Graham led all scorers with 27 points and connected on six 3-pointers as KU concluded its exhibition campaign.

The Jayhawks will now look ahead to tipping-off the 2017-18 regular season when the Tennessee State Tigers come to Lawrence on Friday, Nov. 10.

After sophomore center Udoka Azubuike kicked off the game with a rim-shaking alley-oop dunk from Graham, the Jayhawks tallied few highlights in the opening half as the pesky Tigers looked to spoil KU’s 48-game home exhibition winning streak. There were five lead changes and two ties over the opening 20 minutes, which included a Hadley Gillum 3-pointer with 2:27 remaining in the first half to make the score level at 33-33.

KU closed the half with some momentum however, after Graham converted on a pair from the free throw line and redshirt-sophomore guard Malik Newman followed up on his own miss to give his team a 38-33 edge as the Jayhawks headed to the locker room.

The Tigers opened the half by cutting their deficit to three points on a Brady Werth lay-in at the 19:06 mark, but that’s as close as the visitors would get. Graham kicked off a 10-3 KU spurt by laying in two of his 16 second-half points. The run gave the Jayhawks their first double-digit lead of the game, and quickly awoke a KU offense that went on to outscore the visitors 48-24 in the final stanza.

It wasn’t just the KU offense that got rolling after the intermission. The Jayhawk defense quieted the Tigers’ shooters by holding them to a 9-of-31 (29 percent) clip in the second half, which included just three 3-pointers after Fort Hays State sunk six in the first frame. Kansas also notched six steals and forced nine FHSU turnovers in the second half, converting those into 13 points off turnovers.

Another thunderous dunk from Azubuike put the Jayhawks up 61-44 at the midway point of the second half. Graham then took over the bulk of the scoring load to close out the contest. The senior guard rained in a trio of 3-pointers and a pair of free throws within two minutes to push the KU lead to 27 points before the final media timeout.

Kansas cruised from there, as four different Jayhawks got on the scoresheet over the waning minutes of the contest to help finish off the 86-57 win to close out exhibition play.

Graham’s 27 points would have tied his career high if the game had been in the regular season, as would his six 3-pointers. He was joined by three teammates to score in double figures, who included Azubuike, who tallied 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting and added nine rebounds.

For the second-straight game, Billy Preston was a sharp shooter. The freshman forward was 5-of-6 from the field to add 11 points to the KU total. Preston ends his first exhibition season 14-of-16 in his three preseason games.

UP NEXT
Kansas will open its 120th season of basketball when it welcomes Tennessee State to Allen Fieldhouse on Friday, Nov. 10. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 8 p.m.

Missouri men’s basketball season tickets sold out for 2017-2018

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Arena will be rowdy and packed to the rafters for the first season of the Cuonzo Martin era, as Mizzou Men’s Basketball season tickets for 2017-18 are officially sold out, the athletic department announced Tuesday.

“The response from Mizzou fans and the excitement here in Columbia and around the state of Missouri has been outstanding,” Martin said. “Our home court advantage has the potential to be tremendous, so we’ll need Mizzou fans night in and night out. Whether it’s a Saturday in December or a Tuesday night in February, our program will work to do its part. We can’t wait to see you all there with us every step of the way.”

Mizzou Arena holds 15,061 fans, and Mizzou Athletics has sold 15,600 season tickets to date, including 6,028 student combo tickets which are good for both Tiger men’s basketball and football games.

The Tigers’ 2017-18 public season ticket sales total of 9,572 is a Mizzou Arena record, and an increase of nearly 4,000 tickets over last year’s final total of 5,802. Mizzou’s student season ticket total of 6,028 is double last year’s total of 3,008 and marks the most sold since the 2013-14 campaign when 6,816 student tickets were purchased. Mizzou Arena’s last sold-out men’s basketball game was for the Tigers’ 93-63 victory over Arkansas, March 5, 2013.

“We are looking forward to seeing the excitement and energy at Mizzou Arena this season, and are extremely grateful for all Mizzou fans who have purchased season tickets for the upcoming season,” said Mizzou Director of Athletics Jim Sterk. “I am confident that our fans will provide the Tigers with a tremendous home court advantage this winter.”

Historically, Mizzou Athletics has over-sold student seating at men’s basketball games, dating back to when the Tigers played in the Hearnes Center, due to a high no-show rate among student ticket purchasers. Student tickets will be available to claim online at www.mutigers.com/students approximately one week before home games and once all 4,000 tickets are claimed, the window will close and students will no longer be able to claim tickets.

The general public will have extremely limited opportunities to purchase single-game tickets when unclaimed visiting team or Mizzou student tickets are returned to the Mizzou Ticket Office. Mizzou Fans looking for single-game tickets are encouraged to visit MizzouPass.com on their mobile devices, or select “Mizzou Pass” from within the “Mizzou Tigers” app. In the event of returned tickets becoming available, Mizzou Pass enrollees will receive text notification and directions on how to quickly purchase tickets from their mobile device.

Fans checking the secondary market for Mizzou Men’s Basketball tickets are encouraged to use Vivid Seats, the official resale marketplace of Mizzou Athletics. The best place to purchase and resell Mizzou tickets is at VividSeats.com, where sales and purchases are 100 percent guaranteed.
