Mustangs win at Nevada for third straight victory

The St. Joseph Mustangs won their third consecutive game Sunday as they traveled to Nevada and defeated the Griffons 6-1.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 30-11 and 24-10 in the MINK League. It’s the fourth straight season with at least 30 wins and the Mustangs have done that eight times in the 10 year history of the franchise.

St. Joseph scored one run in the third inning and two in the fifth to build a 3-0 lead. It stayed that way until the ninth inning when the Mustangs added insurance with a three-run top of the ninth. Nevada got its only run in the bottom of the ninth inning as they scored an unearned run off of Jake Purl.

Elle Rojas made his first start of the season for the Mustangs and he threw five scoreless innings. Rojas scattered four hits and he struck out five.

Colton Pogue and Joshua Lincoln had two hits each for St. Joe, while Matt Wollnik had two RBI. Jacob Richardson and Pat Dillon scored two runs a piece.

The Mustangs have Monday off before traveling to Chillicothe on Tuesday for a 7:05 first pitch.

Mustangs roll past Jefferson City again 9-3

The St. Joseph Mustangs won their second consecutive game against Jefferson City as they defeated the Renegades 9-3 Saturday inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 29-11 and 23-10 in the MINK League. The Mustangs remain three games ahead of Sedlia in the North Division standings.

Jefferson City took the 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but St. Joseph answered right back with two in the bottom of the first and three more runs in the third. The Mustangs scored seven unanswered runs before the Renegades got a run back in the seventh inning.

Jake Van Vacter is now 3-3 as he earned the win on the mound. He allowed two runs on five hits and he struck out 12 batters.

Kaleb Reid led the Mustangs’ 12-hit attack as he finished 3-for-5 with three RBI. Colton Pogue and Josh Williams added two hits each, while Erasmo Gonzalez and Mike Foley scored two runs a piece.

The Mustangs are back on the road Sunday as they travel to Nevada for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch with the Griffons. The game will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ AM.

St. Joseph bounces back to blank Jefferson City

The St. Joseph Mustangs blew a three-run lead Friday in a loss to Jefferson City, but St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team bounced back Friday night inside Phil Welch Stadium with an 8-0 shutout of the Renegades in game two of their three-game series.

The Mustangs improve to 28-11 this season and 22-10 in the MINK League. St. Joseph’s lead is back to three games over Sedalia in the North Division standings.

St. Joe scored one run in the first inning and started to pull way in the third with three more runs. That was more than enough for the Mustangs pitching staff.

Osvaldo Raya earned the win as he threw seven scoreless innings. He struck out 10 and allowed only four hits. Nikko Pablo and Jake Purl each threw a scoreless inning of relief.

Erasmo Gonzalez and Joshua Lincoln had two hits each to lead St. Joseph, while eight different players had one run batted in.

The Mustangs and Jefferson City close out their three-game series Saturday at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

Mustangs blow three-run lead in the seventh, lose to Jeff City 8-4

The St. Joseph Mustangs suffered their first loss of the season against Jefferson City as they lost to the Renegades Thursday inside Phil Welch Stadium 8-4.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team falls to 27-11 this season and 21-10 in the MINK League. The Mustangs were 3-0 against Jeff City prior to Thursday, winning three games in the capital city by a combined score of 46-11.

St. Joseph built a 4-1 lead after five innings Thursday, but the Renegades rallied with three two-out runs against the Mustangs bullpen in the seventh inning to tie the game at 4. Then in the eight, Jefferson City added four more to take the lead for the first time in the game and St. Joe couldn’t answer.

Josh Monson started the game and went 6.1 innings. He allowed two runs on two hits, but Jonathan Lynch and Logan Campbell struggled in relief.

Lynch retired just one batter as he walked two, gave up two hits and two runs. Campbell took the loss as he allowed four runs on four hits in 1.1 innings of work.

Joshua Lincoln, Brady Anderson, Colton Pogue, Jacob Richardson and Kaleb Reid had two hits each for the Mustangs, while Pogue and Reid had one RBI a piece.

St. Joseph continues its three-game series with Jefferson City Friday at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joseph holds off Clarinda for 2-1 victory Wednesday

The St. Joseph Mustangs won their second consecutive game Wednesday as they held on to defeat Clarinda 2-1 inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 27-10 and 20-9 in the MINK League. They still lead Sedalia by three games in the North Division Standings.

The Mustangs took a 1-0 lead in the second inning Wednesday as Joshua Lincoln had a two-out RBI single to score Jeremiah Figueora.

Clarinda came back to tie the game in the sixth inning after a two-out RBI from the A’s Cale Emshoff, but St. Joseph answered back in the bottom of the 7th inning.

Derek Hussey led off the seventh with a double down the left field line and he came into scored on a Johsua Lincoln bunt.

Steve D’Amico earned the win on the mound as he improves to 5-0 this summer. D’Amico allowed just one run on five hits in eight innings of work. Nikko Pablo worked around a lead-off double in the top of the night inning as he was able to get Garrett Calvert to ground into a 6-3 double play to end the game with runners on the corners.

Lincon and Figueroa had two hits each for the Mustangs as they’re now 3-0 inside Phil Welch against Clarinda.

St. Joseph is back at home Thursday as they begin a three-game series against the Jefferson City Renegades. The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ.

Mustangs roll to 14-8 win at Ozark

The St. Joseph Mustangs bounced back from back-to-back losses to defeat Ozark 14-8 Tuesday night in Springfield.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 26-10 and 20-9 in MINK League play. They remain three games ahead of Sedlia in the North Division standings as the Bombers also won Tuesday night 21-1 against Nevada.

The Mustangs scored three runs in the first inning to take an early lead against Ozark and they broke the game open with a nine-run third inning.

Josh Williams and Colton Pogue had three hits each for St. Joseph, while Williams drove in five runs and Derek Hussey and Easton Fortuna each had two runs batted in.

Matt Diaz (1-2) earned his first win of the season as he allowed three runs on two hits in six innings of work. Diaz struck out four and walked nine.

The Mustangs return home Wednesday as they host Clarinda inside Phil Welch Stadium. The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. and it’ll be broadcast on 680 KFEQ AM.

Mustangs fall at Sedalia 11-8 for second consecutive loss

The St. Joseph Mustangs lost their second consecutive game Sunday as they fell at Sedalia 11-8.

It’s the first time this season that St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team has dropped back-to-back games. They’re now 25-10 overall and 19-9 in the MINK League.

Sedalia jumped out to a 6-0 lead after four innings and eventually led 9-1 after five.

The Mustangs rallied and scored six unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings to pull within two runs, 9-7, but that was as close as they’d get.

Michael Lydon-Lorson, who came into the game with a 4-0 record and a 1.86 ERA, suffered his first loss as a Mustangs as he allowed six runs on nine hits in four innings of work.

Brody Santilli and Matt Wollink led the St. Joseph offense with two hits each, while Colton Pogue and Jacob Richardson each drove in two runs.

The Mustangs have Monday off before traveling to Ozark Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. game with the Generals.

St. Joseph falls at home Saturday to Nevada 4-2

The St. Joseph Mustangs had their three-game winning streak snapped Saturday as they lost at home to the Nevada Griffons 4-2.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team is now 25-9 this season and 19-8 in the MINK League. They have a 4.5 game lead over Sedalia in the North Division standings.

Nevada’s L.J. Hatch broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning Saturday nigth with a three-run home run and that was all the Griffons would need.

The Mustangs scored two in the sixth inning to pull within one run, but that was as close as they’d get. Derek Hussey hit a triple to drive in Drew Standifer and Josh Williams had an RBI groundout.

St. Joseph outhit Nevada 10-6 but they left 12 men on base and went just 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

Standifer, Colton Pogue and Easton Fortuna each had three hits for the Mustangs.

St. Joe starter Jake Van Vacter (2-3) suffered the loss as he allowed three runs on four hits in 6.2 innings of work. Van Vacter struck out nine and walked three.

The Mustangs are back in action Sunday as they travel to Sedalia for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch with the Bombers. The game will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ.

Six Mustangs take part in MINK League All-Star Game

Six St. Joseph Mustangs took part in the MINK League All-Star game Thursday in Chillicothe as they were part of the North team that lost to the South All-Stars 6-4.

St. Joe’s Drew Standifer played left field for the North team and went 1-for-3 with an RBI, while catcher Brady Anderson, OF Jacob Richardson and 1B Josh Williams all finished 0-for-2.

The Mustangs had two pitcher throw one inning each. Jonathan Lynch gave up one runs and two hits in his inning of work, while Nikko Pablo struck out two but he allowed one run on one hit.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team, who is 24-8 this season and 18-7 in the MINK League, is back in action Friday as they host the Sedalia Bombers inside Phil Welch Stadium. The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m.

Mustangs score nine unanswered runs, defeat Sedalia 9-4

The St. Joseph Mustangs won their second straight game as they defeated Sedalia 9-4 Tuesday inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team now has a four-game lead on Sedalia in the MINK League North Division as they improve to 24-8 overall and 18-7 in league play.

The Mustangs fell behind 1-0 in the top of the third inning, but St. Joseph came right back with nine unanswered runs over the next five innings. They scored one in the third, five in the fourth inning, one more in the sixth and two runs in the seventh inning.

The Bombers scored two runs in the eighth and one in the ninth inning, but that was as close as they’d get.

Josh Monson earned the win on the mound as he allowed just one run and five hits in seventh inning of work. Monson struck out four and walked two.

Josh Lincoln, Matt Wollnik, Brady Anderson and Easton Fortuna had two hits each, while Anderson drove in three runs and Wollnik had two runs batted in.

The Mustangs are on the road Wednesday as they play at Joplin. The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. from Joe Becker Stadium.
