Mustangs win two games at Ozark Thursday

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs extended their winning streak to four games Thursday night as they swept a doubleheader at Ozark, 4-2 and 7-2.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 34-14 this season and 25-13 in the MINK League.  With the two wins, the Mustangs move into second place in the North Division.  They’re a half game ahead of Chillicothe and 1.5 games behind first-place Sedalia.

In game one Thursday, Ozark took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but St. Joseph bounced back with three runs in the third inning and never trailed again.

Jake Alu led the Mustangs as he finished 3-for-4, while Kyle Uhrich and Connor Bacon each had one RBI.

Miles Kilgore (6-2) earned the win as he allowed two runs and five hits in five innings of work.  Steve D’Amico threw a scoreless seventh inning to get his sixth save of the summer.

In game two, St. Joe fell behind 2-0 but took the lead for good with a three-run fourth inning and they put the game away with four runs in the sixth.

Uhrich had another big game as he hit his sixth home run of the season.  He added a double as he drove in three runs and score twice.  Davey Casciola and Matt Wollnik added two hits each.

John Millan (5-1) picked up the victory as he gave up two runs and five hits in six innings.

The Mustangs return home Friday for a showdown with Chillicothe.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

Mustangs win suspended game against Nevada, cap off sweep with 3-2 victory in game two

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs picked up two wins against Nevada Wednesday night at Phil Welch Stadium as they defeated the Griffons 10-9 in 10 innings in game one and 3-2 in the nightcap.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 32-14 this season and 23-13 in the MINK League.  The Mustangs are now tied with Chillicothe for second in the North Division, two games back of Sedalia.

Game one was the completion of St. Joseph’s suspended game with Nevada from July 6th as they began the game in the top of the 10th tied 9-9.

Steve D’Amico threw a scoreless top of the 10th inning for the Mustangs and then Brady Anderson hit a walk-off pinch hit RBI single that scored Davey Casciola and gave St. Joe the victory, their first win against Nevada this season.

In game two, the Mustangs fell behind 1-0 but scored three runs on five consecutive hits in the third inning to take the lead for good.  Davey Casciola, Kyle Uhrich and Connor Bacon each had an RBI in the inning.

Jacob Hurst (3-1) earned the win on the mound as he allowed two runs on six hits in six inning of work.  Jonathan Lynch threw two perfect innings and D’Amico picked up the save with a scoreless ninth inning.

The Mustangs are on the road Thursday for a doubleheader at Springfield against the Ozark Generals.  The first pitch of game one is set for 6:00 p.m.

Mustangs, Raya lose pitchers duel at Chillicothe 1-0

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs dropped their second consecutive game Tuesday night as they lost at Chillicothe 1-0.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team is now 30-14 this season and 21-13 in the MINK League.  The Mustangs are now in third place in the North Division, three game behind Sedalia but just a half game behind Chillicothe.

Mustangs’ starter Osvaldo Raya threw a complete game but suffered the loss.  He allowed a sacrifice fly in the third inning and that was the only run allowed in the game.  Raya allowed six hits as he struck out two and walked three batters.

St. Joseph only had five hits on Tuesday as Orencio Fisher, Jacob Richardson, Louis Mele, Jeremiah Figueroa and Ozzie Rodriguez each had a single.

The Mustangs return home Wednesday for a doubleheader with Nevada.  The first game begins at 5:30 p.m. and will be the completion of their suspended game from July 6.  The game will start in the top of the 10th inning with the score tied 9-9.  Game two will begin 30 minutes after the opener and both games will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ AM.

St. Joseph falls on the road at Joplin Monday 7-4

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs had their three-game winning streak snapped Monday as they lost at Joplin 7-4.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team is now 30-13 this season and 21-12 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs scored two runs in the third inning and one in the fourth to grab a 3-1 lead, but the Outlaws answered right back with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and never trailed again.

St. Joseph pulled to within 5-4 in the fifth inning, but Joplin scored two in the sixth to pull away.

Jason Blanchard suffered the loss for the Mustangs as he allowed five runs and four hits in 3.2 innings of work.  He struck out two and walked two.

Evan McDonald led St. Joe with two hits and two RBI, while Kyle Uhrich added two hits.  Davey Casciola had one RBI and Louis Mele hit his second home run of the summer.

The Mustangs are back on the road Tuesday as they play at Chillicothe.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m.

Mustangs score nine unanswered runs for 10-4 win at Chillicothe

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs earned their third consecutive victory Sunday as they won at Chillicothe 10-4.

St. Joe’s summer collegiate baseball team improve to 30-12 this season and 21-11 in the MINK League.  The Mustangs are now in second place in the North Division, a half game behind Sedlia and a half game ahead of the Chillicothe.

St. Joseph fell behind 4-1 after two innings Sunday, but they scored nine unanswered runs to pull away from the Mudcats.

The Mustangs scored two in the third to pull with one run and then they scored five runs in the sixth inning to take an 8-4 lead.  They added two more in the eighth for insurance.

St. Joe pounded out 16 hits as seven different players had mulit-hit games.  Orencio Fisher went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and one RBI, while Kyle Uhrich had two doubles and two RBI and Connor Bacon also drove in two runs.

Logan Jacik started for the Mustangs and had the longest outing of his career.  He threw eight inning and allowed three earned runs on seven hits.  Jacik struck out four and walked two as he allowed only three hits after the first inning.  He is the third consecutive St. Joseph starter to go eight innings.

The Mustangs remain on the road Monday as they play at Joplin.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m.

Mustangs blank Branson for the second straight game

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs won their second consecutive game Saturday night inside Phil Welch Stadium as they defeated Branson 11-0

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 29-12 this season and 20-11 in the MINK League.  The Mustangs are now just a half game back of Chillicothe and Sedalia in the North Division.

St. Joseph scored three runs in the second inning to take an early lead and then essentially put the game in the fourth with a five-run inning.

Miles Kilgore earned his fifth win of the season Saturday as he threw eight scoreless inning.  Kilore struck out eight and walked just one.  Steve D’Amico worked a perfect ninth inning as he had one strikeout.

Matt Wollnik led the Mustangs’ 10-hit attack as he finished 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.  Tyler Cox went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Brett Marr and Jeremiah Figueroa scored two runs each.

The Mustangs travel to Chillicothe Sunday for a big division game at 7:00 p.m.  The game will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ AM.

Lydon-Lorson leads Mustangs to 3-0 win against Branson

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs snapped their three-game MINK League losing streak with a 3-0 shutout of Branson Friday night inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 28-12 this season and 19-12 in the MINK League, while the Nationals drop to 2-31.

Mustangs’ starter Michael Lydon-Lorson threw a gem Friday as he struck out nine batters in eight scoreless innings to improve to 3-0.  Matt Diaz earned his second save of the season as came on and threw a perfect ninth inning.

St. Joseph scored single runs in the first, second and fourth innings.  Orencio Fisher and Davey Casciola scored on wild pitches, while Brady Anderson had the only run batted in with an RBI ground out that scored Connor Bacon.

The Mustangs play another game against Branson Saturday as they host the Nationals at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

Mustangs blow two-run lead in 9th, lose to KC Monarchs in 11 innings

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs suffered their first loss against a non-league opponent Thursday as they were defeated by the Kansas City Monarchs 7-4 in 11 innings inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team has now lost four of six games and they’re 27-12 this season.

The Mustangs scored two unearned runs in the second inning and then Brady Anderson drove in two runs with sacrifice flies in the sixth and eighth innings.  St. Joseph built a 4-2 lead going to the ninth, but Kansas City rallied off Mustangs’ reliever Jake Purl.

Purl, who had allowed just one earned run all summer, allowed two runs in the ninth inning and the Monarchs got to him in the 11th with three more runs.  He suffered his first loss of the season as he allowed five runs on six hits in three innings of work.

The Mustangs had only five hits as Orencio Fisher finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored.  Anderson, Ozzie Rodriguez and Davey Casciola added one hit each.

St. Joseph gets back into MINK League play Friday as they host the Branson Nationals at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joseph defeats Natural Baseball Academy 7-3

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs won their second consecutive game against a non-league opponent Wednesday as they beat Natural Baseball Academy 7-3 inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 27-11 this season, while Natural Baseball Academy is now 15-13.

The Mustangs fell behind 2-1 in the third inning but answered right back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third to regain the lead.  St. Joseph put the game away with three more runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth.

Mustangs’ starter Jeremiah Figueroa struggled with his control as he allowed only one hit but walked 11 batters in 4.2 innings.  Jake Van Vacter earned the win in relief as he gave up one run in 3.1 innings.  He struck out five and didn’t walk a batter.

Clayton Risch and Brett Marr had two hits each to lead the St. Joe 10-hit attack.  Davey Casciola drove in two runs, while Marr and Jonathan Zuptich each scored twice.

The Mustangs are back at home Thursday for another non-league game against the Kansas City Monarchs.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ AM.

St. Joseph’s doubleheader at Ozark postponed Tuesday

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs had their doubleheader at the Ozark Generals postponed Tuesday night in Springfield.  No makeup date has been scheduled at this time.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team returns to Phil Welch Stadium Wednesday to begin a four-game homestand.  They play the Natural Baseball Academmy from the Ban Johnson League in Kansas City at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Mustangs are 26-11 this season and 18-11 in the MINK League.  They’re currently tied for second in the North Division with Sedalia, while both team are just a half game back of Chillicothe.

Wednesday’s game against the Natural Baseball Academy will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ AM and here on StJosephPost.com.
