Mustangs split doubleheader at Ozark

The St. Joseph Mustangs split a doubleheader at Ozark Sunday as they lost the first game 3-1, but bounced back to win the nightcap 10-1.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team is now 19-17 this season and they’re 16-16 in the MINK League. The Mustangs are still in third place in the North Division, six games back of first place Sedalia and one game back of second place Clarinda.

In game on Sunday, St. Joseph outhit the Generals 9-6 but the only run they scored came in the sixth inning. Ozark scored single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings.

Zach Smith led the Mustangs with three hits, Alex Phillips added two and Easton Fortuna drove in the only run.

Ronnie Wigginton suffered the loss as he allowed one unearned run in four innings of work.

In game two, Ozark took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning before the Mustangs scored 10 unanswered runs.

Terrence Spurlin had a big game for St. Joe as he finished 3-for-5 with four RBI and one run scored. Mason Janvrin, Zack Smith and Jordan Maxson added two hits each.

Brennon Covington earned the win as he gave up one run and five hits in five innings.

The Mustangs have Monday off before traveling to Sedalia Tuesday for a showdown with the first place Bombers. The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m.

Mustangs rally past Jefferson City Saturday

The St. Joseph Mustangs bounced back from a loss at Jefferson City Friday to defeat the Renegades Saturday inside Phil Welch Stadium 9-3.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 18-16 and 15-15 in the MINK League.

Jeff City took a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh inning, but the Mustangs exploded for three runs in the bottom of the seventh and four more in the eighth to get the win.

St. Joseph pounded out 18 hits Saturday as Terrence Spurling, Jordan Maxson, Chaz Verduzco and Brody Santilli had three hits each. Verduzco homered and drove in three runs, while Spurlin and Maxson each had two RBI.

Corey Cowan started for the Mustangs and received a no-decision. He allowed two runs and six hits in six innings of work. Grant Hoppock earned the win in relief as he gave up one runs in two innings.

The Mustangs are on the road Sunday as they play at the Ozark Generals. The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. in Springfield.

Mustangs fall at Jefferson City Friday 5-4

The St. Joseph Mustangs fell on the road Friday night as they lost at Jefferson City 5-4.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team drops to 17-16 this season and they’re 14-15 in the MINK League.

Statistics were not available Friday night as the Mustangs are now 2-3 against the Renegades this season.

The two teams will wrap up their season series Saturday night as they will play in St. Joseph. The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joseph snaps MINK League skid with 11-10 win at Jeff City

The St. Joseph Mustangs earned a road win at Jefferson City Thursday night 11-10. St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team snaps its four-game MINK League losing streak as they’re now 17-15 this season and 14-14 in league play.

No statistics were made available Thursday as the Mustangs are now 2-2 against the Renegades this season. Jeff City falls to 17-14 and 13-14 in the MINK League.

St. Joseph has won both games in Jefferson City this season and they’ll go for the season sweep Friday. The Mustangs and Renegades meet again at 7:00 p.m. Friday at Vivion Field in the capital city.

Mustangs fall at home to Sedalia 6-2

The St. Joseph Mustangs lost their annual 4th of July showdown with Sedalia Wednesday night inside Phil Welch Stadium 6-2.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team drops to 16-15 and they’re now under .500 in the MINK League at 13-14. The Mustangs are now in third place in the North Division, 6.5 games back of Sedalia.

The Bombers took a 3-0 lead in the third inning before St. Joseph scored single runs in the third and sixth innings to pull within one run. Sedalia put the game away with a three-run eighth as they’re now 3-1 against the Mustangs this season.

Matt Mulhearn suffered the loss for St. Joe as he allowed three runs and five hits in six innings of work.

Jordan Maxson led the way offensively as he had three of the Mustangs’ seven hits. Joshua Lincoln and Malik Williams each scored a run, while Terrence Spurlin had one RBI.

The Mustangs are back on the road Thursday as they travel to Jefferson City to take on the Renegades at 7:00 p.m.

Nash makes history, Mustangs defeat Ban Johnson All-Stars 6-4

The St. Joseph Mustangs snapped their three-game losing streak with a 6-4 win over the Ban Johnson League All-Stars Tuesday night inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team is now 16-14 this season and they also made history Tuesday.

Regan Nash, a graduate of North Platte High School and a current Missouri softball player, became the first woman to ever play for the Mustangs. She came on in the fourth inning as she played in left field and had one at bat. Nash went 0-for-1 as she struck out swinging.

St. Joseph rallied from a 2-0 deficit and scored five unanswered runs to take the lead and they never gave it back.

Patrick Dillon had two hits and two RBI, while Alex Phillips and Terrence Spurlin added two hits each.

Adam Thies earned the win for the Mutangs as he allowed two earned runs and six hits in six innings of work.

St. Joe is back at home Wednesday for their annual 4th of July meeting with Sedalia at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

Mustangs announce first woman to play in Mustangs game

(Update 9:15 p.m. Saturday) Due to the Saturday game being cancelled because of weather, Regan Nash will make her debut during Tuesday’s game.

The St. Joseph Mustangs announced that, for the first time, a woman will play in a Mustangs Game.

According to a press release, Regan Nash, Mustangs intern and All-SEC Mizzou Softball Player will join the team Saturday at Phil Welch Stadium.

“I want to do this for women’s sports and prove that we exist,” Nash said. “I just want them to know that I can do it. College leagues like this don’t exist for women’s sports.”

Nash, a native of Camden Point, led the North Platte Panthers with a career batting average of .540, ranked seventh-best in Missouri State softball history. Following her high school career, Nash joined the Mizzou Softball program where she earned All-SEC Freshman Team, Second Team All-SEC as a sophomore and Preseason All-SEC Honors as a junior.

Nash will not only be the first woman to play for the Mustangs, but join a select group of women to ever play in a Summer Collegiate Wood Bat game.

“Mustangs baseball is a fun, family friendly experience,” said Mustangs GM Ky Turner. “We want everyone to be able to have a good time. This is a great example that Mustangs baseball is for everyone. Regan is a great person, and fantastic ambassador for both Mizzou softball and the Mustangs. She’s a very talented player as well, and I couldn’t be more excited to watch her play this Saturday.”

First pitch Saturday is set for 7 p.m.

Mustangs get swept at home by Jefferson City

The St. Joseph Mustangs suffered a doubleheader sweep Thursday to Jefferson City inside Phil Welch Stadium. St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team got beat in the first game 16-5 as it was the conclusion of a suspended game from June 9th 16-5 and they lost the night cap 9-3.

The Mustangs are now 15-13 overall this season and 13-12 in the MINK League. St. Joseph has now lost six of its last seven games.

In game one, they resumed the game in the fifth inning with the score tied 5-5, but it was all Jefferson City Thursday. The Renegades scored four quickly in the fifth and added three more in the seventh before run-ruling the Mustangs with four runs in the eighth inning.

Gaylon Viney made his debut in a St. Joe uniform and he suffered the loss. He have up four runs and six hits in three innings of work.

Alex Phillips hit two home runs for the Mustangs and he drove in all five runs.

In game two, Jeff City scored two runs in the first inning and then blew a 2-1 game open with five in the fourth and two more runs in the sixth inning.

St. Joseph’s Drake Kanallakan (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season as he gave up seven runs and 13 hits in 3.1 innings.

The Mustangs had just six hits as Malik Williams and Terrence Spurlin had two hits each. Williams drove in all three runs.

St. Joseph is on the road Friday as they play at Sedalia.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. inside Liberty Park Stadium.

St. Joseph splits doubleheader at Chillicothe

St. Joseph Mustangs split a doubleheader at Chillicothe Tuesday as they lost game one 6-2 and won the nightcap 2-1.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team is now 15-11 and 13-10 in the MINK League.

In game one, after the Mustangs took a 1-0 lead in the first, the Mudcats scored two runs in the first inning and three more in the third.

St. Joseph had only four hits as Mason Janvrin led the way doubled, tripled, scored one run and drove in one run. Aaron Dees and Colton Eremian had the other two hits.

Mustangs’ starter Adam Thies made his debut Tuesday and he allowed five runs and four hits in just three inning of work.

In game two, each team scored one run in the first inning and then St. Joe took the lead for good with a run in the fifth.

Joseph Hietpas improve to 3-1 this season as he threw a complete game six hitter. He struck out 14 and allowed just six hits.

Zach Smith and Joshua Lincoln led the Mustangs with two hits each

The Mustangs have Wednesday off as the MINK League All-Star game takes place tonight in Joplin at 7:00 o’clock.

St. Joseph blows ninth inning lead, loses in 10 innings at Nevada

The St. Joseph Mustangs suffered their third consecutive loss Sunday as they fell at Nevada 9-7 in 10 innings.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team is now 14-10 this season and they’re 12-9 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs rallied from a 5-3 deficit to tie the game 6-6 in the eighth inning. St. Joseph scored a run in the top of the ninth to take the lead, but Nevada answered with one of their own to force extra innings. The Griffons then got a walk-off two-run home run from Connor Gage to win the game.

Ronnie Wigginton suffered the loss as he went five innings of relief. Wiggington allowed four earned runs and eight hits. Corey Cowan started fo St. Joe as he gave up two runs and three hits in 4.1 innings.

Mason Janvrin had a big night offensively for the Mustangs as he went 4-for-7 with three runs and one RBI. Zach Smith added three hits and he drove in two, while Alex Phillips hit his fifth home run of the season.

The Mustangs have a day off Monday before playing a doubleheader Tuesday at Chillicothe.
