Mustangs’ season ends Sunday at NBC World Series

The St. Joseph Mustangs season came to an end Sunday afternoon in Wichita as St. Joe’s summer college baseball team was knocked out of the NBC World Series by Hutchinson (KS), 7-3.

The Mustangs end their third season in St. Joe with a franchise record in wins as they finish 42-12.

Hutchinson led 2-0 after two innings Sunday before St. Joseph got a sacrifice fly from Nate Bauman and an RBI single from Brent Seifert to tie the game at the end of three innings.

The score remained that way until the sixth inning when Hutchinson grabbed the lead for good with two solo home runs off Mustangs’ starter Jayson Huett.  The Monarchs added one run in the seventh inning and two more in the eighth to finish off the four-run victory.

Seifert went 2-for-4 to lead the Mustangs’ nine-hit attack as he was the only St. Joe player with multiple hits.  Mark Robinette also drove in a run, while Spiker Helms, Kris Koerper and Andrew Nellestein each scored one run.

Huett (5-1) suffered his first loss of the season as he allowed four earned runs and seven hits in seven innings of work.

The Mustangs went 2-2 at the NBC World Series as they made the tournament for a second consecutive year.
