After a 55-17 victory over the Tigers of Fort Hays State University the Missouri Western football team jumped up to 16th in the latest AFCA Division II Coaches Poll. The Griffons closed out the regular season winning seven straight games which is the first time a Griffon team has done this since 1981. Western also tied a single season record for most wins in a season with nine. The Griffons have previously done this in 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2009.
Three other MIAA school were in the top 15 as Washburn sits 15th while Pittsburg State and Northwest Missouri sit at 7th and 10th respectively.
The Griffons will host their first ever home playoff game on Saturday, November 19 at 12:00 pm. Western will take on rival 10th ranked Northwest Missouri State in the first round of the playoffs for the second consecutive season. Last season Western fell 28-24 in the first round in Maryville, Mo. Just two weeks ago the Griffons defeated Northwest 31-28 in St. Joseph, Mo.
