Two men are being held in Johnson County, Missouri pending the filing of formal murder charges in connection with the first homicide in Warrensburg in about three years.
Warrensburg Police Chief Bruce Howey on Wednesday announced the arrests of Reginald L. Singletary, 27, and Ziyad T. Abid, 23, in connection with the fatal shooting of Blaine Whitworth. Whitworth, a Warrensburg businessman, was found shot to death in his driveway on Saturday.
Howey says 34 officers from several agencies, convened the Major Case Squad Tuesday, following up on 69 leads on the first day of the investigation. At about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Singletary was arrested in Sedalia and brought back to Warrensburg for questioning. Shortly after midnight on Wednesday morning, Abid was arrested by Warrensburg police in Warrensburg.
Authorities expect to charge each man with first-degree murder. Howey says Singletary will also be charged with armed criminal action.
Whitworth, 25, was the owner of two bars in Warrensburg. His death marked the city’s first homicide since 2009.
