Truck-Train Collision Kills Two From Hiawatha

Two Hiawatha residents died Monday morning when their pickup truck hit a freight train at a crossing in Brown County.

A pickup truck  collided with a Union Pacific train just before 10 a.m. Monday at 260th Rd just East of Jackrabbit road.

The Kansas Highway Patrol identifies the victims as Thurman Turner, 59, and Veronica Hogle, 18.  They  were pronounced dead at the scene.

Turner was well known in the Hiawatha in connection with motorcycle charity rides.
