Two elderly Savannah residents were seriously hurt Tuesday night when their motorcycle hit a deer.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports Johnnie Long, 70, and Rebecca Jones, 72, were riding along I-29 south of Mound City at 9 p.m. Tuesday. Their Honda hit the animal in the highway, overturned, and ejected both occupants.

Both were taken by ambulance to Heartland for treatment of serious injuries. By Wednesday afternoon, Long was in good condition. Officials at Heartland say Jones improved to fair condition.
