EPA Halts Elevator Demolition In St Joe

US EPA
The Environmental Protection Agency is conducting sampling at the site of a local grain elevator demolition because of a potential chemical release.

Region 7 of the EPA is sampling for pesticides, herbicides and heavy metals at the HPI Products Site at 1300 South Eighth St.

In a news release, the government says HPI Products began the elevator demolition without first consulting with the EPA. Upon learning of the demolition, EPA halted the work at the site pending sampling to determine if there is a human health risk associated with the demolition of the elevator.

No further demolition or work will be completed until the sampling results are final, which is expected to be in the second half of June.
