(UPDATE) Charges Filed After Savannah Standoff

savannahA 50-year-old Savannah man and his adult daughter face felony charges after a standoff late Wednesday.

About 30 officers, deputies and troopers responded to the home of Rickie Butler at 1505 West Chestnut in Savannah after two officers reported hearing gun shots.

Savannah Police Chief David Vincent says they received numerous calls about fireworks or shots fired in the area starting at about 11:30 pm Wednesday.

Vincent says officers witnessed a man firing what appeared to be a high powered rifle. When the man ducked into an apartment Vince says they backed off and called for backup. Several officers tried and failed to get the suspect to come out.

The Special Response Team from the St Joseph Police Department responded, as did deputies from Andrew and Holt counties, and troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

A hostage negotiator was able to talk the Butler into surrendering about four hours later. His daughter, 27-year-old Shandra Ann Butler was also taken into custody. She faces a felony charge of interfering with an arrest, plus a misdemeanor count of willfully opposing a deputy sheriff in the proper discharge of his duties. Mr Butler faces those two charges plus one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon.
