A former Kansas cop was sentenced to life in prison today for the murder of his wife and the burning of the couple’s home. Brett Seacat, 37, was sentenced Monday. Seacat will not be eligible for parole for more than 31 years.
A Kingman County jury in June found Seacat guilt of murder in the 2011 death of his wife Fashti Seacat. Seacat was accused of killing Seacat, 34, just 16 days after she filed for divorce. Her charred body was found next to a melted gas container on the remains of her bed, along with a .44-caliber pistol.
The panel also returned guilty verdicts on aggravated arson and two counts of aggravated endangering a child.
Seacat is a former Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Deputy and a trainer at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center.
