Blast number two at Amelia Earhart Memorial Bridge is scheduled for 2 pm Friday.  The controlled explosion will take out bridge pier 9, located in the Missouri River channel.

The blast zone will be a radius of 500 feet from the explosion, down from 1,000 feet in the first explosion on Wednesday.  The first blast took down the high truss steel across the whole span of the bridge between Winthrop, Missouri, and Atchison, Kansas.  A third blast to take out bridge pier 10 is scheduled for 9 am October 29.

The public and the media will be able to watch Friday’s blast number two from Riverside Park or Veteran’s Park.  Spectators should be in place by 1:30 pm.  The new Amelia Earhart Bridge and all Atchison city streets within the blast zone will be closed at 1 pm.
