The third annual Walk for the Homeless will start at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14 at Sixth and Messanie Streets in downtown St. Joseph. Organizers hope to raise awareness and benefit the Social Welfare Board’s Friends of the Free Clinic Fund.
The walk is co-sponsored by the Organization of Student Social Workers at Missouri Western State University and other campus departments as well as local businesses and organizations.
The walk will follow the migration path of the homeless to agencies downtown where they can receive assistance, including the Salvation Army, Haven/Juda House, the Social Welfare Board, the YWCA, United Way and several more. The route is a little over two miles long.
There is no fee to join the walk. There is a $15 registration fee to receive a t-shirt and enjoy a barbecue dinner. To register, go to the Friends of the Free Clinic page on the Community Foundation of Northwest Missouri’s website: cfnwmo.org/donate/friends-of-the-free-clinic-fund.
The Walk for the Homeless is sponsored by the Missouri Western Organization of Student Social Workers, Center for Multicultural Education and Department of Criminal Justice, Legal Studies and Social Work, as well as Summers Motors, Family Guidance Center for Behavioral Healthcare, Custom Truck & Equipment, Hy-Vee and the Social Welfare Board.
