A preliminary hearing is scheduled later this month for a St. Joseph man charged with an assault for a fight last weekend that left another man in a medically-induced coma.

Jacob Bolin appeared via video for a first appearance in Buchanan County court Friday.

St. Joseph police have not yet released the name of the victim.

Investigators say Bolin allegedly struck the victim in the head several times with a hammer during a fight the morning of September 3 in the 2200 block of North 3rd Street.

Associate Judge Rebecca Spencer scheduled a preliminary hearing September 20. Bolin is being held without bail in the Buchanan County Jail.
