Nadine Blakley
1925-2017

Nadine Lea Blakley, 91, of St. Joseph, MO died Thursday, May 04, 2017 at Riverside Place, St. Joseph, MO.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 6th, 2017 at the Sugar Creek Christian Church with Rev. Keith Hoover officiating. Burial will follow in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Rushville, MO. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until time of service on Saturday at the church. Nadine was born on May 7, 1925 in Forbes, MO the daughter of William G. and Edna P. (Guyer) Vandever. She attended Forbes Grade School and Rushville High School. Nadine spent most of her life as a homemaker and housewife. She was married to William O. Blakley on Oct. 18, 1941. Mr. Blakley preceded her in death on July 6, 2014. Mrs. Blakley was a member of the Rushville Christian Church, and enjoyed sewing, embroidery, cross-stitch, and reading.

Survivors include a son, Bill L. (Patty) Blakley, Oquawka, IL, three daughters, Connie K. (David) Ramsel, Galesburg, IL, Barbara D. (Bob) Connour, Galesburg, IL, and Gail A. (Danny) Zabel, Rushville, MO, one brother, Gene Vandever, AR, Eleven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Her parents, husband, a brother, Orvan “Max” Vandever and a sister, Sharon R. Vandever, preceded her in death.

Theresa Aspinwall
1938-2017

Theresa M. Aspinwall, 79, of Winchester, KS, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the F.W. Huston Senior Living Center in Winchester, KS.

Graveside Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Nortonville Cemetery with Rev. Bob Carter, officiating. Family will receive friends, Saturday, for 30 minutes at the O’Trimble Funeral Home, just prior to the graveside service. Theresa was born on February 5, 1938 in Nortonville, the daughter of Wilbur and Catherine (Hartman) Aspinwall. Theresa was disabled and lived with her parents until moving to the F.W. Huston Senior Living Center in Winchester in 2001.

Theresa is survived by a sister, Rita (Don) Shell of Valley Falls, KS; three brothers, James Aspinwall, John (Susan) Aspinwall, and David (Lana) Aspinwall, all of Nortonville; several nieces and nephews.

Theresa was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters; Mary Marez, Alice Aspinwall and Patricia Aspinwall.

Harriet (Woodson) Hall
1946-2017

Harriet Hall of St Joseph, MO passed away of natural causes on May 2, 2017.
Harriet was born in La Follette, TN and was a graduate of the La Follette High School Class of 1964 where she was active in the Beta Club. During the summers she worked in the family business, Woodson’s Supermarkets. Harriet attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO, and then relocated to Knoxville, TN in 1966 to raise a family. In 1980 Harriet moved to Atlanta, GA and spent several years following her passion for travel, great food, and raising her children. In 1985 Harriet and her children relocated to La Follette, TN to be closer to family. Harriet loved the outdoors and especially the beautiful lakes and mountains of East Tennessee. She was an avid fisherman and waterskier, and could be found most weekends spending time on Norris Lake with family and friends.
In 2013 Harriet moved to St Joseph, MO to be closer to her sons and grandchildren. She continued an active lifestyle making new friends at Living Community. She loved politics and was an avid reader of history.
She recently celebrated the birth of two beautiful great grandchildren, and was looking forward to attending the upcoming marriage of her granddaughter Allison.
Harriet is survived by her brother Robert L. Woodson III and wife Elaine of La Follette, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Robert D Reed and Juana of Agency, MO; son and daughter-in-law, John D Hall III and Jennifer of Seattle, WA; granddaughters, Amanda Reed of Goldsmith, TX, Ashlee Delaney and Allison Reed of Agency, MO, and Ava Hall of Seattle, WA; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Cameron of Goldsmith, TX, and Whitley Delaney of Agency, MO; nephew Lee Woodson of Caryville, TN; and nieces Rowena Schimmel of Nashville, TN, and Maria Bostic of La Follette, TN. She was predeceased in death by her parents Robert L Woodson Jr and Ethel Sharp Woodson of La Follette, TN; son, Adam W. Hall of Dallas, TX; and granddaughter Savannah Sue Reed of Agency, MO.

Travis Panning
1978-2017

Travis Wade Panning, 39, Mound City, Missouri passed away Sunday, April 23, 2017.
He was born January 4, 1978 in Fairfax, Missouri.
He was a 1997 graduate of Mound City High School and later received an Associate’s degree in Applied Science, Mechanical Design and Production Technology. Travis worked on Tom and Dana Tubb’s farm for many years.
Travis enjoyed spending time with friends and family, going to tractor pulls, smoking meat and loved collecting John Deere memorabilia. He bled green and loved Chris’ 4320. Interestingly enough he only enjoyed watching three movies; Eldorado, The Sons of Katie Elder and Twister and would stop everything if they happen to be on television. Travis was happiest when he was busy and most importantly working.
Survivors include parents, Paul and Nannette Panning; brothers, Chad (Brandy), Nicholas (Margo) and Kenny Panning; nieces, Kimber and Madison; nephews, Matthew and Wyatt; and extended family and friends.

Barbara Blakis
1933-2017

HOLTON – Barbara (Baiba) Blakis, 84, of Holton, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at her home in Holton.

She was born March 18, 1933 on the farm outside of Masalaca, Latvia, to Jakaps and Marta Berzins Blakis, and immigrated to the United States in 1951.

Barbara worked in housekeeping at Merry Manor Nursing Home and Holton Community Hospital. She also raised livestock north of Holton.

Barbara was preceded in death by her father, mother and two brothers.

Survivors include a sister, Marta Eglajs, of Camarillo, California

Per Barbara’s wishes, cremation and no services are planned. Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton is assisting with arrangements.

Frank Lee Hudspeth, Jr.
1943-2017

Frank Lee Hudspeth, Jr., 73, Rushville, Missouri passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017 .He was born September 3, 1943 in Atchison, Kansas. Frank married Kathie Parsons, July 4, 1980, she survives of the home. Additional survivors include two sons; three daughters; and numerous grandchildren. Catherine Ann Pischker
1921-2017

Catherine Ann “Aunt Katie” Pischker 95, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at her home. She was born May 20, 1921 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of the late Katie and Steven Mihelich. She was a homemaker and worked at Swift & Company. She was devoted to her son Gary and his activities with special olympics, and was a member of St. James Catholic Church. Aunt Katie was preceded in death by husband, Larry Pischker, her parents, her son, Gary Pischker, three sisters, Stevie Weber, Mary Thrasher, Ann Gunter, and a brother, Johnny Mihelich. Survivors include, sister, Barbara Corwin, Richmond, MO, brother Steven (Marion) Mihelich, St. Joseph, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Rupp Funeral Home, with Fr. Evan Harkins officiating, The family will receive friends from 10:00-10:30 AM with a Rosary to be recited at 10:30 AM Thursday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery . Memorials are requested in lieu of flowers to the United Cerebral Palsy.

Alma Marie Higgins
1918-2017

Highland, KS….. Alma Marie Higgins, 99, Highland, died May 1, 2017, at Highland Healthcare Center.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 6, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in
Highland with Rev. Jerry Petering presiding. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may call at the
funeral home after 12 noon Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Highland Ambulance Fund, the Highland
Cemetery Association or the Highland United Methodist Presbyterian Church and may be
sent in care of the funeral home.
Alma was born April 19, 1918, in Highland, KS, to Harry Brunner Bingman and Della Mae
(Heikes) Bingman. She was a graduate of Highland High School and Highland
Junior College. She taught second grade for a brief time before becoming a full time
homemaker.
She married Murl Leslie Higgins on January 14, 1951. He preceded her in death March 8, 2014.
Alma was stricken with polio at the age of nine and spent the rest of her life
more than overcoming the weakness in her legs. She was a lifetime member of the
Highland United Methodist Presbyterian Church where she served as Sunday School
Secretary for many years. She also held a lifetime membership in the Highland
Community College Alumni Association.
Survivors include two sons: Mike (Barbara Ann) Higgins, Atchison, Jerry (Connie)
Higgins, Wathena, one grandchild, two great-grandchildren, three step grandchildren,
eight step great-grandchildren and four step great-great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Harry Wilburn
Bingman.
