The St. Joseph Mustangs needed extra innings Tuesday at Sedalia, but St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team defeated the Bombers 11-10 in 11 innings.
The Mustangs improve to 5-1 and they’re 2-1 in the MINK League.
St. Joseph built a 6-2 lead in the sixth inning before Sedalia mounted its comeback. The Mustangs never gave the lead up, but the Bombers scored three runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth inning to tie the game and force extra innings.
The game remained tied until the top of the 11th when Matt Wollnik drove in Brett Marr with a two-out single to put St. Joe back ahead for good. Kyle Uhrich work around a walk and a single to earn the save as Sedalia left two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the 11th.
Nikko Pablo got the win for the Mustangs in relief as he threw two scoreless innings. Matt Diaz started the game and went six innings as he allowed four runs on five hits
Wollnik led the St. Joseph offense as he finished 3-for-6 with a career high five RBI. Jacob Richardson added three hits and two runs scored, while Marr scored three times.
The Mustangs return home Wednesday to play the Clarinda A’s. The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.
