(Update) – A house fire on Olive Street caused thousands of dollars in damage Friday morning.

Fire Inspector Steve Henrichson with the St. Joseph Fire Department said the first fire truck arrived on scene around 8:12 a.m. Friday and the last truck left around 10:15 a.m.

Henrichson said a neighbor saw flames coming out the back door of the home located in the 1800 block of Olive. Firefighters arrived to find a fire in the basement.  Crews were able to contain the blaze.  No injuries were reported.

Henrichson said the cause of the fire was accidental. He said the residents were working on a motorcycle in the basement and fumes got to the water heater and ignited. The fire burnt to the first floor and the back half of the house.

The house is estimated to be a complete loss by inspectors of around $45,000 to $50,000.
