Mustangs rally from five-run deficit, win at Nevada 14-8

The St. Joseph Mustangs bounced back from loss to Jefferson City Saturday with a 14-8 road win at Nevada Sunday.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 18-7 and 14-5 in the MINK League.

After falling behind 2-0 after one inning and 7-2 after three, the Mustangs scored eight unanswered runs to take the lead and they added four more in the ninth inning to cap off the win. St. Joseph is now 6-2 on the road this season.

Karl Koerper, who won the MINK League All-Star Home Run Derby on Wednesday, hit two home runs Sunday and drove in six runs to lead the Mustangs.

Jack Wagner added three hits and three runs scored, while Dylan Ketch, Max Mircovich and Brady Holden had two hits each.

St. Joe’s Ryan Scharf earned the win in relief as he threw four innings and allowed three hits and one unearned run. Scharf struck out seven and walked just one. Starter Alec Byous gave up seven runs in four innings of work.

The Mustangs stay on the road as they play at doubleheader at Ozark Monday beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Meador Park in Springfield.
