According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol the crash took place just before 8 a.m. on southbound I-29 in St. Joseph at mile marker 49.6. 57-year-old Brenda Elsbernd was driving a 2011 Ford Taurus and was stopped due traffic congestion from an unrelated accident. 43-year-old Sonny Luke was driving a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix when he failed to see her stop and began to skid and struck the back of Elsbernd’s vehicle causing her car to travel off the west side of the roadway.

Both Luke and Elsbernd were taken to Mosaic Life Care by ambulance for treatment of moderate injuries. Both vehicles were reported totaled.
