Rosalie Allison

Rosalie Allison 98, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2017 in a Saint Joseph, MO health care center. She was born July 5, 1919. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James Allison, daughter, Betty Marriott, a grandson, two brothers, and three sisters. Survivors include son, Lloyd (Opal Ellen) Allison, daughter, Donna (Robert) VanHoozer, Yukon, OK. 10 grandchildren, several great and great grand children. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services and interment will be on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 11:00 am, at the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Rushville, Mo with family meeting at the Cemetery.

Ivan “Joe” Wayne Wells Sr.
1933-2017

Ivan “Joe” Wayne Wells Sr. 84 of DeKalb, Missouri, passed away Sunday October 29, 2017 at his home. He was born October 18th, 1933 and like so many of his generation came from humble beginnings but that would not stop him from traveling the world and accomplishing so much in his 84 years of life. He leaves behind a legacy as an American war hero, outdoorsman, and most importantly a loving husband and father. Ivan grew up in a dirt floor home and learned very early how to hunt and fish. He continued to have a passion for the outdoors his whole life. As a child he was heavily influenced by my loving mother Opal and grandmother Olive, but also his Aunt Mary, Uncle Bill, and Uncle Mac who he loved dearly. Ivan joined the Navy and served his country heroically during the Korean War. After the war he would go on to join the Air Force serving in Vietnam. He served a total of 22 years in the military traveling all over the world spending time in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and he especially enjoyed his time in Alaska. During his time in the military, Ivan also became a father to Ivan Jr. and Vicki. After his long military career he returned home and eventually found himself working at St. Joseph’s “Sister’s ” Hospital, working as an orderly. There he met the love of his life and wife of 43 years, Jackulin. They were married on New Years Eve 1973. They did some traveling, living in Colorado, New Mexico, and Joplin before returning home to Saint Joseph to start a family. While living in Joplin they both attended nursing school. Ivan would go on to become an ER nurse working several years at Heartland West. He became a father once again to Cody, Charley, and Casey. His family was his whole life. Everything our father did was for our family. He took us hunting and fishing, played catch in the yard after supper, and attended every ball game. He was also the family chef and he took great pride in preparing a family meal every single night. Dinner time was family time and that was so important to him. After dinner we often would take family walks down the country roads with all our dogs or have wrestling matches in the living room. We often played music while mom and dad danced together. Together we created so many wonderful memories. Ivan was a member of the Saint James Catholic Church and formed a very important relationship with Fr. Bill. Ivan was also an avid dog lover, which were his other children. All throughout his life he loved his dogs. Later in life they would bring him so much joy and comfort. Ivan was preceded in death by his mother Opal, brothers Sammy and Francis. He is survived by his loving wife Jackulin and 5 children Ivan, Vicki, Cody, Charley (Crystal) and Casey. He is also survived by his sisters Helen and Betty and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm Thursday, with graveside services and interment to follow at 2:30 PM Thursday, at the Bethel Cemetery, DeKalb, MO. Memorials are requested to the St. Joseph Animal Shelter.

Shirley (Cluck) Carpenter Weidner
1933-2017

ST. JOSEPH, MO – Shirley (Cluck) Carpenter Weidner, 84, of St. Joseph, Missouri formerly of Doniphan County, Kansas, died Sunday, October 29, 2017 at the home of her daughter.

Shirley was born on August 14, 1933 in Severance, Kansas to Alva and Bessie (Harrison) Cluck. She was a christian.

Shirley married Ralph Carpenter, Jr. on February 16, 1951 in Troy, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 5, 1966. She was also preceded in death by her parents and an infant .

Billie L. Falconer
1962-2017

HOLTON – Billie L. Falconer, 55, of Holton, died Friday, October 27, 2017 at her home.

She was born September 14, 1962 at Atchison, the daughter of Billy and Eleanor Johnston Lackland. She graduated from Atchison High School, and took training to earn CMA and CNA certificates.

Prior to her marriage Billie worked in Home Health and did physical therapy for rehabilitation patients.

She married Charles E. Falconer on July 19, 1991 in Atchison. He survives, of the home.

Billie was preceded in death by her father, and a niece, Ashlee Reeves.

Other survivors include a son, Matthew Kaleb Falconer, three daughters, Amber Kane Veloz and husband Angelo, Katelyn Falconer, and Mallory Chamberlin-McKnight and husband Ryan, all of Holton; her mother, Eleanor Lackland and one brother, Larry Lackland, both of Thrall, TX; three sisters, Angela Lackland and Roxanne Ramirez, both of Sabetha, and Gidget Hopkins, in Texas; and four grandchildren, Alexys George, Adarius George, Andrez Veloz and Indee L. Chamberlin-McKnight.

Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 7th at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Private inurnment will be later in Mt. Vernon Cemetery at Atchison. Alice Anna Aines
1941-2017

Alice Anna Aines 75, of Saint Joseph, MO passed away Monday, October 30, 2017 in Saint Joseph, MO health care center. She was born November 27, 1941 in Kansas City, MO, daughter of the late Leslie and Jordan Zlateff. She was a Homemaker who loved animals. She was of the Catholic faith. Alice was preceded in death by husband, Lewis H. Aines Jr., her parents, brothers, Donald and Jordan Zlateff Jr., and her sister, Elsie Stahlhut. Survivors include daughters, Angela (Dave) Ball, St. Joseph, MO, and Theresa Schaefer (Steve Dravenstott), Grandview, MO, 2 grandchildren, Jessica and Matthew Ball, brother, “Rocko” Rayko Zlateff, Prairie Village, KS, and sister, Esther Prouty, Portland, OR and her former husband, Al Schaefer.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 3, 2017, at 2:00 pm at the St. James Catholic Church, Father Joseph Totton Celebrant. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Inurnment will be at the King Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Barbara Jean Edie
1933-2017

Barbara J. Edie, 84, of Highland, Kansas, died Tuesday morning, October 31, 2017, at Highland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, where she had lived for seven years.

Barb was born August 7, 1933, in Highland, the daughter of Wayne and Margaret King Collins. Barb was a member of the White Cloud Christian Church, later transferred to Highland Christian Church. She also was a member of the Pollyanna Club; worked with the CWF of the Church; volunteered at the Highland food pantry. She spent most of her working life at the Highland nursing home where she was a certified nurse aide (CNA), later became a certified medical aide (CMA). Barb loved to be outside in her swing and being with family and friends.

She married Joseph E. Edie, May 19, 1951, at her grandparents’ home, Claude and Carrie Collins of Sparks. Joe & Barb made their home in White Cloud until 1972 when they moved to Highland.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 66 years Joe of the home; sons Larry (Sharon) Edie of Highland, Robert (Jackie) Edie of Highland, daughter Charlene (Jim) Twombly of White Cloud; seven brothers: Lynn Collins of St. Joseph, MO, Dan Collins of Highland, Ed Collins of Troy, Bill Collins of Hiawatha, Rick Collins of Wathena, Randy Collins of Hiawatha, Tim Collins of Highland; five sisters: Pat Pfaffly of Kansas City, MO, Margaret Brassfield of Hiawatha, Sue Hall of Powhattan, Kathy Campbell of Troy, Anita Rounds of Lexington, MO; ten grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren, with numerous nieces and nephews.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents; son Mike Edie; sister Jan Stonebarger; three brothers: David Collins, Denny Collins, and Butch Collins.

Funeral services are planned for 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 3, at the Community of Christ Church of Fanning, with Jerry Petering officiating. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland after 10 a.m. Thursday and where the family will meet that evening from 6 until 8.

Lucille Amanda Unzicker
1925-2017

Lucille A. Unzicker 92, of Saint Joseph, MO passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Mosaic Life Care Hospital. She was born February 2, 1925 in Minneola, KS, daughter of the late Eleanora and Leo Klein. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and St. James Altar Society and volunteered for Birthright in St. Joseph. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Calvin Unzicker, sons, Gregory Unzicker, and Timothy Unzicker, twin brothers, Robert & Norbert Klein, and brother, Urban Klein, sister, Marcella Finkledei, son in law, Greg Brooks, daughter in law, Karen Unzicker-Fry. Survivors include daughters, Teresa (Mike) Johnson, Dena (Jim) Busby, and Mary Rose Brooks all of St. Joseph, MO, sons, David (Karen) Unzicker, Hagerstown, MD, and Leon (Linda) Unzicker, Norfolk , NE, 12 grandchildren: Stacey Unzicker, Heather Pollard, Melinda Mead, Kendra Johnson, Matt Busby, Tina Turner, Niki Dyer, Nicole Unzicker, Sean Unzicker, Kim Adley, Jeanette Miller, and Sara Pfeifer, 19 great grandchildren, brothers, Lloyd Klein, California, and Marvin (Norma) Klein, Kansas City, MO, sister, Marilyn Dewell, Fowler, KS, brother in law, Lloyd (Natalie) Unzicker, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at 11:30 A.M. at St. James Catholic Church, Father Luis Felipe Suarez Celebrant. The Rosary will be recited at 5:30 pm, Friday and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery . Connie Sue Glass
1947-2017

MUSCOTAH – Connie Sue Glass, 70, of Muscotah, formerly of Cory, Indiana, was called to heaven at her home on Tuesday, October 31, 2017.

She was born July 28, 1947 in Vicksburg, Indiana the daughter of William Stevenson, Jr. and Nancy Louise Dove Stevenson.

Connie was a long-time employee of the Indiana State Prison in Putnamville, IN and was a member of the Auxiliary to V.F.W. Post No. 972 in Brazil, IN.

She was married to Larry Dean Glass, Sr., who preceded her in death in December of 2015.

Survivors include three sons, Ted Glass and wife Brenda, McClouth, KS, Larry Dean Glass, Jr. and wife Angie, Shelburn IN and Steve Glass and wife Stacey, Riley, IN; two sisters, Geraldine Maden, Bloomington, IN and Mary Elizabeth Dorman, Clay City, IN and numerous grandchildren.

Cremation is planned and no services are scheduled. Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton, KS is assisting the family.

Mabel Louise “Boots” Moore (McConnaughey)
1927-2017

Mabel L. ‘Boots’ Moore, 90, of Atchison, KS, passed away, Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Diversicare of St. Joseph, MO.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS, with Pastor Darrell Cox, officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Mabel Louise McConnaughey was born March 4, 1927 in Atchison, the daughter of James and Mabel (Mershon) McConnaughey. Mabel and Charles E. Moore were married on July 24, 1948 in Troy, KS. They celebrated 64 years of marriage before Charles passed away on January 24, 2012. Mabel was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Barbara “Bobbi” Moore Lopez; two granddaughters, Angela Vandeloo and Stephanie McNeely; three brothers; and one sister.

From 1951-1970, Mabel and Charles lived in Omaha, NE, where Mabel worked in a manufacturing plant building motor scooters. They moved to Atchison in 1970 and Mabel was one of the first employees at the Atchison McDonalds when it opened. Mabel went to work as a cook at ‘The Roost’ at Benedictine College from 1971 to 1980; worked at Atchison Child Care until 1987 when she then went to work for USD 409 Atchison Public Schools as a cook, working for several years before she retired from USD 409. Mabel was a member of the Atchison VFW Auxiliary and the Church Of The Nazarene.

Survivors include a son, Todd (Mayla) Moore, Overbrook, OK; a daughter, Beverly (James) McNeely, Atchison; eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandsons.

Jackie E. Saville
1936-2017

Jackie E. Saville 81, of Wathena, Kansas passed away Wednesday November 1, 2017 at her home. She was born March 9, 1936 in St. Joseph, Missouri daughter of the late Wilma & Asa Mace. She attended Elwood High School, growing up in Elwood, KS, she lived in Maysville, MO for a short time then most of her life in Wathena, KS. She was a Homemaker, who enjoyed quilting, crocheting, walking her dog Boscoe, watching westerns – Gunsmoke, also Andy Griffith, MASH, and Everybody Loves Raymond, she most especially enjoyed spending time with her family and she was a Christian. Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Cheryl Lee Conway, brother, Billy Mace, sister, Dolly, first husband, Morris Lee Conway, second husband, Richard Saville. She is survived by daughter, Brenda (Shawn) Griffin, Wathena, KS, son, Morris “Allen” (Kathy) Conway, Platte City, MO, 5 grandchildren, Allen, Bradley, and Trey Conway, and Christian and Hannah Griffin, great grandchild, Hudson Conway, brother, Clayton “Leon” (Debbie) Mace, St. Joseph, MO, sisters, Carol Whetstine, and Betty Bechtold both of Troy, KS. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm on Monday with a Celebration of life service to start at 2pm Monday at the Rupp Funeral Home. She will be cremated under the direction of the Rupp Funeral Home.

Violett “Jeane” Miller
1921-2017

V. Jeane Miller 96, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Wednesday November 1, 2017 at her home. She was born May 23, 1921 in Emporia, Kansas daughter of the late Sue & Robert Humphrey. She graduated from Central High School, St. Joseph, Missouri and obtained three Master Degrees in Special Education, from Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, MO., and the University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg. She worked the last 30 years Wathena as a Special Education Teacher. She enjoyed her time devoting herself to teaching Special Education Reading, retiring at age 82. She was a member of the Science of the Mind faith. Jeane was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Miller, her parents, son, Lamont Miller, brothers, Galen and Robert Humphrey. Survivors include her son, Lynn Miller, Saint Joseph, MO, brother, Calvin (Jean) Humphrey, Omaha, NE, sister, Sue Hancock, St. Joseph, MO. Mrs. Miller has been cremated under the care of the Rupp Funeral Home, there are no scheduled visitation or services at this time.

Robert A. Mayhew
1940-2017

Robert A. Mayhew, 77, passed away at Maple Heights Nursing Facility in Hiawatha, November 2, 2017, with his sister and brother in law by his side.06/30/1940

Bob was born to Arthur R. and Hazel Moss Mayhew on June 30, 1940, in Lamar, Colorado. He graduated from Lamar, Colorado. He graduated from Lamar High School before serving four years in the U.S. Air Force, then two years in the U.S. Navy as an aircraft mechanic. After fifteen years working for the Fred Harvey Company in Grand Canyon, AZ, Bob retired near Hiawatha to be near his sister. Bob was an avid HO gauge railroader, enjoyed painting with oils and water colors, playing acoustic guitar and watching the Denver Broncos; Indy and F1 auto racing and riding his motorcycle.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents and older sister Betty McGrath.

He is greatly missed by his sisters, Donna Eckert and Sharon Mayhew-Schuetz; also many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Bob’s life will be held at Lamar, Colorado, where his ashes will be interred near family sometime in the spring.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hiawatha Community Hospital; NEK Hospice or Maple Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation, sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha, who is assisting the family.
