The Missouri Western men’s golf team finished 12thTuesday afternoon at the 14th Annual NSU Golf Classic, held at the par-72, 6,935-yard Emerald Falls Golf Club in Broken Arrow, Okla.
MWSU struggled on the final day firing final-round score of 318, six strokes back of the Griffons first day score of 312. The team recorded a two-day total of 630.
Southwest Oklahoma State recorded a Tuesday team score of 295 to finish at 589 and take home top team honors. Washburn slipped to second after shooting a 594 (293-301), and Newman placed third with a 597 (298-299). Central Missouri (303-295=598) and Central Oklahoma (304-299=603) rounded out the top five of the team competition.
Newman had the top two individuals, with Myles Miller winning the tournament at 3-under 141 and James Bolton placing second at 1-under 143. Those were the lone players to shoot under par.
Tyler Gast paced the way for the Griffons tying for 38th firing a two-day total of 155 (72-83). Weston Apple and Scott Sheldon finished in a tie for 50th both firing 158 while James O’Brien finished one stroke back with a 159. Evan McCarthy fired a two-day total of 171 while Derek Hawkins played as an individual shooting 170.
The Griffons will next tee it up at the Lindenwood Invitational Oct. 1-2 in St. Louis, Mo.
