Investigators say a St Joseph teenager was speeding when he engaged his vehicle’s emergency brake on a curve.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the crash that resulted sent 17-year-old Skyler Lane of St Joe to the hospital with serious injuries.

A passenger, 19-year-old Paiten Hamilton of Jamesport refused treatment at the scene for minor injuries.

Lane was taken by helicopter ambulance to the Truman Medical Center. The accident happened along Missouri Route 190 south of Jamesport at 4:43 p.m. Sunday.
