Buchanan County Receives Courthouse Grant

Buchanan County CourthouseBuchanan County has received a $32,500 grant for courthouse renovations. The funding from the Missouri Heritage Properties Program will pay for scraping and cleaning all necessary areas on the dome, cutout deteriorated caulk, caulk all open voids and glass as needed, spot prime all bare areas, and apply a full coat of paint to the exterior.

The Buchanan County Courthouse was built in 1873 and put on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. A recent $2.9 million restoration project preserved the Renaissance Revival style of the building.

Renovations on the dome are expected to begin this summer.
