CUSHING, Okla. (AP) — A 5.0-magnitude earthquake centered near one of the world’s key oil hubs has triggered fears the temblor may have damaged key infrastructure and rendered century-old downtown buildings unsafe in the latest Oklahoma town rattled by increasingly strong quakes.

Cushing Assistant City Manager Jeremy Frazier told a late-night news conference that a few minor injuries were reported in the quake that struck at 7:44 p.m. Sunday. He said the damage appeared to be contained to downtown, where piles of debris sat at the base of some commercial buildings.

Fearing aftershocks, police cordoned off older parts of the city to keep gawkers away. Frazier said an assisted living community had been evacuated after damage was reported.

City officials have scheduled a news conference for Monday morning to discuss the quake’s impact.

St Louis county patch logoST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis County police say a man killed his two young sons before apparently fatally shooting himself.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports police identified the dead as 43-year-old Christopher Cadenbach and his two sons, 5-year-old Ethan Cadenbach and 4-year-old Owen Cadenbach.

St. Louis County Deputy Chief Ken Cox said the father was being sought Saturday on a warrant for domestic abuse issued in Franklin County.

He said Cadenbach spent Saturday with his children and his mother and later began making statements that alarmed his mother, who called police when he left with the children.

The car was later spotted in a St. Louis County park. Both boys were dead when police reached the car.

Cox says officers exchanged shots with the father, who then reportedly took his own life.

“Movie money” turning up in KC suburbs looks like the real thing

cash-moneyINDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) — Authorities in two Kansas City area suburbs say they’ve received reports of fake movie money being circulated.

Police in Independence, Missouri, and Olathe, Kansas, said they’ve gotten several reports of the fake movie money being passed as real bills.

They’re urging people and businesses to take a close look at the money when accepting cash for purchases.

The Kansas City Star reports officials say the fake money closely resembles actual money and began turning up in the spring.

Olathe police Detective Brian Peters says two of the three people who used the bills there have been identified and charged. He says while the prop money looks real, it feels heavier than real currency and is also missing the security thread.

Don’t forget to fall back! – Daylight Saving ends

clock-923546_1920WASHINGTON (AP) — Get ready for the annual fall ritual of turning back your clocks by one hour, and relish that extra hour of sleep this weekend.

Daylight saving time is ending and it’s back to standard time for most people in the United States.

The change comes at 2 a.m. local time Sunday, and the shift moves one hour of daylight to the morning from the evening.

Residents of Hawaii, most of Arizona and some U.S. territories don’t need to fiddle with their clocks because those places don’t observe daylight saving time. Europe made the change last weekend.

Daylight saving time returns at 2 a.m. local time on Sunday, March 12.

Kansas State Fair records second best attendance

kansas state fair

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) — The 2016 Kansas State Fair had its second best attendance in at least 40 years, but the number of people gracing the grandstand at the fairgrounds continues to wane.

The Hutchinson News reports that nearly $360,000 people attended the state fair this year, but the fair lost a net $56,905 in grandstand tickets sales. That includes revenue from concerts, the demolition derby and the truck and tractor pull. Grandstand acts have collectively lost money six of the past eight years.

Some numbers reported to state fair board members Wednesday were positive, including the number of young people who participated in the Kansas’ Largest Classroom Program.

The board also reported a record high of more than $257,000 for the fair’s corporate club sponsorship.
