Two people were hurt over the weekend in a crash that happened after a Platte County deputy called off a high-speed pursuit. The Platte County Sheriff’s Office says a blue Ford Taurus refused to pull over during a traffic stop along I-29 near Tiffany Springs Road shortly after 8pm Saturday. The deputy pursued the vehicle, but terminated the pursuit just south of 72nd Street.

Public Information Officer Erik Holland says the vehicle then exited onto 64th Street and struck another vehicle at 64th and Prairie View Road.

Major Holland says witnesses spotted two to three people who fled from the scene of the crash. Officers from multiple jurisdictions, including the Platte County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas City Police Department searched the area looking for the individuals that fled the scene. Officials have not announced any arrests.

The driver of the Ford Taurus was transported to an area hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Antonio Lamar Williams has been charged with resisting arrest, exceeding the speed limit, and driving with a suspended or revoked license. Bail was set at $25,000 cash. No other arrests have been reported.

A passenger in the other vehicle in the crash was also taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

The incident is being investigated by the Kansas City Police Department.

The last “Veterans Achieving Peace of Mind” workshop to be held

The last workshop will be held in an educational series focusing on peer counseling and helping veterans and their family and friends understand mental health.

The “Veterans Achieving Peace of Mind” Workshop will feature the Mobile Vet Center from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Colonel Scott Jensen, BCC will speak about “Moral Injury, Helping Veterans Address Spiritual Issues and Soul Repair.”

The Mobile Vet Centers (MVCs) of the Department of Veterans Affairs provide readjustment counseling and information resources to Veterans across the country. Like community-based Vet Centers, Mobile Vet Centers focus on services that help Veterans make the difficult transition between military and civilian life.

Michael Focke with the VA said the seminars and question and answer sessions have been offered as a safe and relaxed atmosphere to help with understanding the complexity of PTSD and more. Focke said this session is not just for veterans.

“This is for the families and the friends,” Focke said. “If we can reach them, they can reach the veterans, because maybe that veteran doesn’t want to come out of reclusion, maybe they’re stuck in their house because of overwhelming Post Traumatic Stress issues. But they have a next door neighbor that notices this and you want the information so you can know how to help, because that’s what it’s all about, doing something for someone else.”

The third and last session will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, December 1st, in the Community Room at the Rolling Hills Public Library, 1904 North Belt Highway.

Even if you didn’t attend the previous workshops, you can still participate in the last workshop.
