The mother of a 2-year-old Omaha girl who had part of her right leg severed in a lawn mower accident says the girl faces another surgery this weekend.

Tonya Streck said in a news conference Thursday that her daughter is expected to recover, but that her right leg was amputated below her knee following the Tuesday evening accident.

Streck says the girl was with family friends when she fell off a motorized child’s vehicle, rolled down a ditch embankment and under a riding mower in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Streck, who is six months’ pregnant, said her daughter is still on a pain medication and a ventilator and is unaware that part of her leg is missing.

The girl turns three on Saturday.  Streck says she faces another surgery on Sunday.

A GoFundMe campaign drew donations from 314 people in two days, raising more than $16,000.

Old scam returns to Livingston County

Scam graphic
Sheriff Steve Cox says citizens in Livingston County report receiving a retail survey and fraudulent check in the mail. The citizen is requested to immediately deposit the large check, keep $300 for their personal fee and spend the specific amount of money at the mentioned retail store and then wire remaining money.

The intended victim is asked to promptly complete a survey and text or email the information along with a Money Gram reference number and return the remaining money.

Cox says the check is a forged document and the entire letter is a scam. These people are merely trying to get our citizens to take part in their fraud and scam them out of money. By the time your bank notifies you the check is bogus you have already wired the criminals your money. Fortunately none of our citizens have reported being an actual crime victim to this scam.

If you get one of these notices please destroy the document and check. If you have fallen victim to this or other scams, please take all information and report to your local law enforcement agency.
