Crews removing what’s left of a tree that fell on a St Joe woman Tuesday
A tree along the Parkway near Corby Pond in St Joe picked precisely the wrong time to fall over Tuesday morning.

Officials say this particular tree was tinder-dry, almost entirely dead, and could have fallen over at any time. It fell onto one of two women walking along the sidewalk.

According to the initial reports, the woman suffered a head injury, and was pinned underneath the tree briefly.

Tracy McEnaney was taken to Mosaic Life Care by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. Her walking companion was not injured.

The incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. Tuesday along the Parkway between Ashland Ave. and Corby Pond, an area historically dubbed “Lilac Hill.”

St. Joseph, Mo. –A free class talking about insects is being held by the Missouri Department of Conservation in St. Joseph this weekend.

Insect-O-Rama will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 10 a.m. to noon at the MDC Northwest Regional Office, 701 James McCarthy Drive in St. Joseph.

The MDC said all activities are free and fun for all ages. Insects and exhibits about them will be on display. Experts will answer questions about bugs that are fun and those that are pesky.

The department said insects are a cornerstone in nature’s complex ecology. They are important food for fish and wildlife. But they also pollinate food crops important to people.

Insect-O-Rama offers participants a chance to learn how they can help provide habitat for desirable insects such as the monarch butterfly.

For information about Insect-O-Rama, call 816-271-3100. To learn about other MDC programs that connect people with nature, visit http://www.mdc.mo.gov.
